    Great piece of machinery- after trying it I’ve ordered another one for greywash with extra aluminum bearing. And more than that I love the fact that I support the right people and not the corporate money hungry ones. Kudos to Carson for creating this great machine.

    Awesome review I love using this machine. But I recently had to send it in since I had one of the first version of the neuma. 1 of the first 100 so Carson replaced it for a newer version one and still send me the original grip. Carson is an awesome person. And can’t wait for newer products.

    This sounds like an amazing and revolutionary machine. It seems like you're getting all of the benefits of a coil machine in a rotary. However, I'm just a beginner and getting started and it sounds like this rotary is definitely not entry level. I'm heavily anticipating the day that I acquire enough experience and to deserve everything that this wonderful piece of art has to offer.

      I would not be intimidated by the language used in this video. I have struggled with low cost machines and produced inferior work in the process. Listen to Carson on Fireside Tattoo Podcast where he explains the theory and get a Neuma. You will not regret it.

    Carson has always been superb with his customer service. Have questions, not sure exactly what fits your style...don't be surprised if he throws in some extras for you to try out. Like everyone says this machine is a lining beast. I have the shift grip and a standard grip. The shift grip is one of the most comfortable machines I've used. I have played with the 2 different bearings and all of the cams for the 3.6mm and 4.2mm. My preference seems to be the 3.6 with the 28% cam. I like shading with the aluminum bearing and the 33% cam. I tend to be a machine collector so I'll often use whatever I'm feeling that day. I'd never part with the 3.5 and 4.0 unlimited machines. They're just reliable and easy to use for anything.

    with the 28% 3.6 i feel i can do it all but i do enjoy the 20 4.2 for linework but honestly best thing about neuma4 is the stainless knurled grip i dont feel weird doing traditional with a pen machine i used to set up the coils machine when i got a traditional tattoo in it just didnt feel right to tattoo with a rotary that specific style and know its awesome!! The material used for the cams is great and durable mine are black .i think its that peek stuff. Great machine best pen on the market a little loud for me but great tool i use it in combination with dan kubins dmcv2 i just love that little machine

    I’ve been using it with the critical battery and it hold so well to the back knob of the neuma that you can adjust the needle depth with it. And it’s also much more balanced. Work well with the lightning bolt too (little bit off balance) but you’ll have to buy a 90 degree angle RCA connector or it won’t fit the neuma. Best machine i’ve use since the coil machine. Made me realise how slow i was while using others pen style machine.

    I measured one of those battery packs voltage with my volt meter and I remember it showing a volt lower than the read out. So 9 volts is probably around 8 volts. (Caution- if you short stuff like that while its on it will probably break it.) Having a snug Neuma 4 Battery Housing that took standard lithium cells would be AMAZING. Good idea. Thanks for the video!

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. Carson has mentioned running over nine volts won’t kill the motor but may shorten its life some. Good to know I’ve got another whole volt to go!!

      @landofsummer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tyatx9258 compare your cps (sound) from your muso toku to the battery pack. You'll know how much to scale up when using the pack. Those packs are just a cheap lithium battery and a cheap boost converter module. Who cares if it accurate, as long as it's consistent!

  • @BeauHautBoards

    Hi there Tye, Thank you very much for your review. I have enjoyed your in-depth explanations through The Fireside Tattoo podcast. The detailed explanations by yourself and Carson have encouraged myself to buy a Neuma 4 from the US. My 1st machine I attempted to use for everything but changing the brass and aluminium bearing arm got to be a bit of a faff so I bought a 2nd. I now have a liner and shader. The 3.6mm 20% standard spring seems to work great for smaller needle configurations and heals super. The other day I tried the machine with a 14RL, whilst it worked to some extent it was not as consistent.
    In this video you recommend a 4.2mm 20%, alternative spring for larger grouping. Since the video was published Carson has released a steel machine. I am going to buy a 4.2mm.
    Would you recommend the aluminium or steel machine housing? (Machine NOT grip) Cheers Patrick

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steel housing for liners, you could use either but the extra weight makes lining with any grouping very easy.

    what do you think about the bishop wand im looking for my next machine ive only had two rotary machines a hummingbird i know right but it was actually decent and a bishop v6i was looking into the wand but know im thinking about the neuma any suggestions

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i had all 3 bishop wands and the Packer was the worst. the shader wasn't bad but slower for me. the liner was descent but still hangs in the skin too long. that is why Have contributed to Neuma development and have dialed in cam and bearing arm set ups that work best for me. I prefer 20% 4.2 to line with the brass bearing arm and a stainless or brass grip. I use a 1 gram aluminum bearing arm, 33% 3.6 to shade with a switch grip. this shader set up and the switch grip are my collaborations with Neuma and I highly reccommend them. These two set ups i shared with you are my daily machines for all my work.

    I am getting into Traditional Japanese Color tattooing with the vibrant saturation style and looking to buy a pen but need help.
    Which Pen would be the greatest all rounder? Neuma 4 or Xion or Vahalla? Out of those 3 which is more better? If you could rank each one.
    Also does the Neuma 4 have any give? Or is it a no give machine like direct drives?
    Thanks I hope you can help as you have a lot of knowledge!

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on what you are used to. I have never used a Valhalla. The Xion is great but long when you add a battery to it. The Neuma is a direct drive. It saturates very well and is good for packing too. If you like a little bit of real bogging “give” the Xion has that.

    I am saving for another machine, this one looks really good but I would like to know how the machine PULLS the needle instead of the spring of the cartridge. I read a post weeks ago explaining this thing and coils are the best because the needle is pulled up with the mechanism of the magnet instead of the spring wich is what happen in every rotary pen machine construction.

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean? It pushes the needle cartridge. No cartridges pull in the upward direction. Only full needle bars are attached to armatures.

      I own the solid brass grip. My machine runs smooth, minimal vibration. My only con for the machine, which I talked to Carson about, it various cartridge fitments. That is a machine issue as it is more the cartridge manufacturer.

      YES (using the Copper Alloy 27mm grip. NO (using Brass Shift grip 33mm) So technically, it does.
      However it does put slight 'angle tension' on the RCA connection. Over time might not be great ( off on off on, etc), may eventually weaken rca motor mount on the machine.
      . I just used my Neuma 4 first time yesterday, 6hr session. Love it. Heavy Brass Shift grip w/4.2 & 20%cam for linework, Kicks my Xion's (3.6) butt.

    • @patsung8804
      @patsung8804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      (NOT AN EXPERT) but this is my two cents regarding the mechanism of it; I think it's "direct" because there are no other things pushing the needle besides the motor and the cam, I think it was kind of like a swashplate mechanism inspired but the shape of the cams that push the needles are manipulated to copy the waveform on how the needle goes into the skin just like with the coil. it's such a genius piece of mechanism on how simple it is, no bells and whistles. Love simple machines like this. Excited to try one out myself

    • @tyatx9258
      @tyatx9258  ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically the bearing arm is directly driving the cam, pushing your cart plunger but that’s a matter of opinion. My personal belief is that cam is in every way a “no-give Slider mechanism”. Either way it’s a rotary without give. We are all correct, just depends on how you view it.
