Evening Steve, thanks so much and yes , doing this trip is well beyond what I thought was possible even 6 months ago, so I’m feeling very grateful and lucky. I can’t deny a little feeling of trepidation beforehand, but now I’m well on my way, that’s all gone. I’m not quite sure what sort of videos will drop out of the trip as I’m not really doing any GoPro stuff and I’m busy eating cheese and cake when not riding the scoot, but something will happen I’m sure. All the best, cheers, Phil.
The ADV350 really is a perfect touring machine. Well thought out security items, riding gear, and camera equipment. Looking forward to all your entries.

Will be taking Poole to Cherbourg ferry, then down to Spain on mine end of September, 2024. Got the 600 mile service in a day or to. Time to really get to know this bike!.Watching videos suchcas yours greatly influenced me in purchasing one of these great bikes!
Hey John, good to hear from you and that sounds like a cracking trip. Hope you get better weather than I’m getting! Aside from that there’s absolutely nothing I’d change about the ADV and the challenging conditions (wind, rain, cold) have only proven it’s worth more. Actually, it’s so comfortable I just wish it had a larger tank for a range of 250 miles as I feel I could sit in it forever! Good luck with the trip and let me know how you get on, cheers, Phil.
Thanks very much Andrew, thanks have perked up considerably today with dry roads, a great place to stay and much cheese. Plus the ADV is looking after me 😀
Hey Gareth, thanks very much and I will. The slog through the Netherlands in high winds wasn’t my idea of fun but things have perked up considerably now. All the best, cheers, Phil.

@@80eightReviews Morning Phil. The oem belts on Honda's are very good, you should not have problems before 10-12k km... There is a special 'key' for holding the variator in place and wrench similar to car tire wrench to get the variator nut off, you can carry them under the seat for travels + belt of course.
Longest I’ve been away with mine is a 2 night stay but didn’t take a big camera. Will have to look at following videos to see if you’re carrying any other luggage
Hey Chris, how are you doing? Well all I can say is that the adverse weather conditions for the first five days (High winds, massive downpours and very cold) have brought the benefits of the scoot to the fore. Totally stable, enough weather protection to make things bearable, so easy to use that getting lost in diversions is no hassle and a hoot on dry mountain roads. And 77 mpg. The same trip on my Stornello, as lovely as it is, would have been quite horrible. It’s a different experience to a bike but after a while the smoothness, how it glides along and the lack of any need to be ‘competitive’ on the road has its own gentle delights. Always good to hear from you Chris, all the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Hi Phil, doing well. It's Indian Summer here in Maine. I was curious about your scooter and discovered that Honda does not import it to North America!. I'm about to hop on the v85tt for an afternoon ride... wishing you improved weather; keep us posted.
@chrissunde1104 Hey Chris, I like the sound of an Indian Summer or any type of summer to be honest! As for the ADV350, yes, many folks from the US have mentioned it’s not available which seems like madness. While I personally don’t tend to think of the US as being scooter country, something like the ADV or similar would be a cracking way of getting around even for between city trips. I’m sure they would sell plenty. Time to start a petition and wring letters. Hope you had a nice ride on the V85 yesterday and that the weather is set fair. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hello Phil, it's great to see one of your ADV videos again. I think you are well prepared for your European trip with this and your additional safety measures 🤣🤣🤣. It's a shame that you can't come to Austria as far as the streets and panoramas are concerned, but Switzerland is almost as beautiful (which is of course meant as a joke)😄. I think the ADV will make your trip even more enjoyable as it is a really comfortable vehicle. As far as the tires are concerned, I got back on the Karoo after 12,000km because I really like them on the vehicle (I also like to look off the main roads for interesting points). Have a good trip and continue to have fun with the ADV. As always. I'm curious about your travel report. I hope that someone understands what I'm writing🙄🤔. Cheers
Good afternoon KG and many thanks for stopping by. "almost as beautiful" ha ha!! I've just got back and the ADV was just fabulous - obviously there were no problems and it was just a lovely, easy and comfortable place to be. Serene and placid at all times and the handling is just lovely. I had zero issues from a speed perspective and no dramas even if the weather was rather challenging. Video coming soon! I think! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Just got back from a U.K to Pyrenees Spain on my 2024 model. Great bike, comfy, enough grunt to pull you out of any problems, even on the motorway. Small tank could be a concern if you were really out in the wilds ......perhaps!. But overall, a fantastic bit of kit.
Hey John, good to hear from you again and very pleased to hear you had a great trip over to Spain. Yes, the tank could really do with having an easy 200 mile range as it's more than possible to do that mileage without needing to stop for a break. As you say though, overall, it's quite a fabulous machine for a very good price and which has a lot of versatility. All the best John, hope the storms don't get you today, cheers, Phil.
I'm a life-long photographer. I used to shoot large format and would never touch anything smaller than 6x6 medium format. But these days, like you, I shoot M43 and wonder why I didn't go that route sooner. I'm finding that my ego is not nearly as insulted by shooting such a small format system as I initially predicted. The compact size of everything, especially the lenses, is so freeing for travel.
Hey Mike, thanks for stopping by and great to hear your thoughts. I’m more of a video nerd myself but yes, it took me a while to be persuaded and given what I’m getting out of the camera, it’s versatility and features, I’m very pleased to have made the move. There’s definitely a snobbery about having a honking big lens and body, but like you, I’m over that! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Cool video. The shift in emphasis from bike to tour is key. I live in the north of Spain and often see groups on over laden GS bikes struggling with basics like parking. Lol. Try U turning one of those on a steep incline. A mid wright scooter is the way to go or if you must have the Adv look then a v strom 650 is more than fine. Have a great trip!💪
Thanks very much Sean and good to hear from you. Well, funny you say that as I’ve already seen two dropped bikes - one on day one, turning into the ferry port and the other as I was passing by a petrol station. I admit I’m weak and feeble but I do love the feeling of riding something that I have zero qualms about any manoeuvre or parking anywhere I want to. Manufacturers have sold us a mirage - it’s like if get something huge you load it just because you can! The trip is nearly finished but it’s been great! All the best, cheers, Phil. My hotel in Switzerland had a tight 30% hairpin to get to it. Instant zip with the CVT, short wheelbase and light weight and it was easy - even if it did need a dab!
@@80eightReviews was surprised at tire choice though, the ADV tires were so impressive around Scotland and brought out a much harder riding attitude from me that as soon as winter arrives, yesterday, will be putting as close as can be got on the Vulcan!
@drdoolittle5724 Well, it was sorta driven by circumstance to be honest as the dealers were struggling to get hold of a rear Karoo (which is what I had asked for) so two weeks out from the trip I just went with what was in stock which was the City Grips. I thought the Karoos were really good and had no problems with them - the City Grips though just feel a little bit more ‘alive’ to me. As for the Vulcan…Sounds like you’ve found ‘the one’ - good stuff. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hope your tour went well & without trouble. I've just come back from my France/Spain trip where a friend's Aprillia broke down and his recovery cover was pants, rather than go into detail he ended up having to organise his own travel arrangements to get home while his bike sits in a dealership in Barcelona! At some point he will need to fly there and ride it back home because he was told that repatriation was absolutely too expensive! I will be speaking to my breakdown chaps to ask the 'What if?' questions. One quick suggestion though, spare a minute to consider buying moulded ear plugs. Very comfortable and much better at cancelling out harmful wind blast to protect your hearing/avoid tinnitus. Around £100 and very effective.
Good morning Mr. S1000XR, how are you doing? Despite everything I hope you had a good trip away to France and Spain and that the weather was OK. That story about your friends bike is just awful! I usually thought they would get it to the nearest point of entry back to the UK at least. I'll be checking Carole Nash now! As for my little tour, unlike many a TH-cam video these days which seem to make a virtue of making drama's and crisis out of a molehill, it all went really well, I had a great time and the scoot was flawless. With that in mind a very boring video will be coming out at some point :-) As for earplugs, yeah I've often thought about the moulded ones but have resisted so far as I'm always losing things. I'll check it out though - thanks for the tip. Have a great day, all the best, Phil.
@@80eightReviews a bit of stress over the breakdown and how flipping useless the recovery agents were but that aside the Pyrenees are brilliant roads to ride. I developed suddenly onset Tinnitus as a result of using foam earplugs, thinking I was being sensible and safe. However, I now understand they don't cut out the harmful higher frequencies that damage your hearing. Buying moulded earplugs were a last resort for me because any length of ride out caused me massive problems. I only wish I'd bought them sooner, once you have tinnitus, it's a friend for life! Final tip, but bright orange or yellow, easier to find if/when you drop them. Good luck 👍🏻

Good morning Guzziman, fabulous to hear from you again and hope you’re doing well. Many thanks for your comments and intriguing question 😀 Tricky, very tricky. I may have to do some research (tough job but some has got to do it, etc, etc) but I’m thinking it’s a soft cheese and possibly a sweetish white wine, certainly not red. What are you thinking? I will continue to ponder. All the best, cheers, Phil.
I will also add that the free gloves are pretty decent too. I gave mine away because they had an anoying bit of leather that dug into a fingertip on the seam. As you say, my poor wife is shivering away, with no company apart from dead flowers… All the best Guy, great to hear from you as a,ways, cheers, Phil.
Morning Graeme, good to hear from you, oh well, you can't win them all. Call me old fashioned though but when I'm away from home for two weeks I do tend to take items that are useful, well made and fit for purpose as opposed to being utter rubbish. See the HJC Helmet 'advert' in the video :-) All the best, cheers, Phil.
M43 cameras and lenses are the ultimate travel kit. The new GH7 has very good autofocus by the way. So the only weakness is solved. Costs £2k mind you.
Good morning Mr.Fandango - hope you’re doing well today and yes, M43 and a couple of lenses is just so much more practical and the GH series come with so many features, Timelapse, stabilisation etc, it’s incredible. I only use auto focus for stills really but if the GH7 has any deals in the future I might trade my GH6 in but having said that it does everything I need it to - e.g. all the outside footage in this video! All the best, cheers, Phil.
You needn’t have bothered with security Phil, I’ve had you covered since you landed in that Portuguese harbour. Jeans triple C rated? Do you mean triple A rated? Never heard of a C rating unless it’s something only ADV owners understand? When we get back I’ll artex that living room ceiling for you! 🤣 Have fun keep Hugh posted. @@80eightReviews I think Jon's referring to the Quorn pasty. I had to watch it 3 times to be sure it really wasn't a snake & pygmy pasty. Just make sure the Belgians don't catch you with it, Phil, or things might get nasty. But then it could double as ear plugs in an emergency.

Hey Guy, well, the film might be slightly challenging as it’s been so cold and wet it’s been difficult to use the camera. Something will be produced though I’m sure 😀 As for the living room 🤣 Yes, I know, I should be ashamed really and my only excuse for the fungus is an abiding fear of stepladders 😀 Anyway, I’ll get it sorted for the next video. As you say, my poor wife is shivering away, with no company apart from dead flowers…
All the best Guy, great to hear from you as a,ways, cheers, Phil.
like watching one long advert
Morning Graeme, good to hear from you, oh well, you can't win them all. Call me old fashioned though but when I'm away from home for two weeks I do tend to take items that are useful, well made and fit for purpose as opposed to being utter rubbish. See the HJC Helmet 'advert' in the video :-)
All the best, cheers, Phil.
Have fun keep Hugh posted. Obviously I’m with you every step of the way!
I think I meant triple x to be honest, given the situation with pants, NSFW etc, etc. Must dash, Thomas has me looking for some special 🧀
Triple C is for when you Cack yer self
@@80eightReviews I know, you’ve got crumbs all down that silk blouse 👚 🩳
@@JLOSTAFF1 You’ve lost me completely now…
@@80eightReviews I think Jon's referring to the Quorn pasty. I had to watch it 3 times to be sure it really wasn't a snake & pygmy pasty. Just make sure the Belgians don't catch you with it, Phil, or things might get nasty. But then it could double as ear plugs in an emergency.
They can see that uk sticker from space😅
🤣 Those guys who did the spacewalk probably got distracted by it…It seems to be working though as I’ve not been tailgated 😀 Good to hear from you again, hope all is well, cheers, Phil.
Bon voyage and please remember to have som cheese and beer😊
“Remember to have cheese and beer” 🤣🤣🤣 I go to bed full of it and wake up looking for more 😀 but a reminder is always welcome! Thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews yes, reminders is important😂😂🤣
Nice one, i am going to take my 400 burgman away next year
Morning Neil, great to hear from you and you’ll have a blast on the Burgman. Let me know how you get on, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews hope the scooter is going well.
Touring on a scooter. I'm not sure I'd want to. I'd don't like where my feet are on machines like this. Great storage, mind. Nick
Hey Nick, well, I’m a 1000 miles in and it’s working out fine for me so far. I haven’t scraped the footboards yet though. Must try harder 😀 All the best, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Great to hear from you. From waterlogged Chiang Rai.
I bet it’s warm though Nick?
@@80eightReviews Sweating like there's no tomorrow earlier this afternoon. Took my helmet off, hair soaked.
And 2kg of Charlie in the gas tank right? Ahh shhh.. easy… rider
I couldn’t possibly comment 😃 Funnily enough, I saw a trad old chopper the other day - it wasn’t quite as mad as Captain America, but it was a Harley, peanut tank, ape hangers and insane raked out forks. I’d need serious physio to get on it, let alone ride it…All the best, cheers, Phil.
