Morning Andrew, that sounds like a fabulous trip and many thanks for confirming the ADV's suitability for such an adventure. Wherever you are now, hope all is going well, the weather is good and the scoot is running fine. Please check in and let me know how you're getting on whenever you have the chance. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Same here. Sold my R1200GS and bought the ADV. Rides and feels like a toy, way better for much softer kind of riding but nothing to compare with the GS cow bike!
I made several trips on my ADV 350. You have 47l space under the seat and you can put on soft luggage - no need to carry this ugly cardboard as most do. The problem is wind protection. ADV protects worse than a motorcycle.
@@podunkman2709 Hello - yeah, the wind protection isn't total I agree, although it depends on what bikes you've been riding as it feels pretty good to me and most importantly, it reduces strain and effort at speed. As I say though, I've been riding completely unfaired bikes for the last 10 years at least!
Hello there, I have just bought honda adv 350. My feelings are exactly the same. When it comes to the quality of your video, it's adorable. The framing, composition, quality of the sound... Just perfect. Kind regards from Poland👋
Good morning Sławomir, well, first of all many congratulations on the purchase of your own ADV 350 and it's good to know you're enjoying it - I'm really pleased for you. Also many thanks for your kind comments on the video - it's great to know the work is appreciated, all the best, safe riding, cheers, Phil.
@80eightReviews it's really kind of you. Thank you for your kind words. I've mentioned honda adv 350, but I've also got honda cbf600sa. I love this girl wholeheartedly, indeed. But adv is totally a different story. Never before have I had an automatic gearbox. It really simplifies riding. I wonder if with time it doesn't get boring (?) The position on the scooter is also different. The whole body weight rests on my bottom (unlike the cbf, where some of the support goes through arms). I have also tried to make some videos, but their quality of their artistic value (...) are nowhere near yours (my channel is called Jednośladowa Akcja Biwakowa). Your production has given me some ideas how to improve my films. Thank you Phil, All the best👋
I had a Brain Haemorrhage 2 years ago and having got my licence back I quickly realised I no longer had the mobility to ride my KTM 1190adventure....so having seen your ADV350, I swapped!! Yes it's your fault!🤔 It's superb, I agree with everything you say. Thanks for the videos, cheers Alistair 👍
Hey Alistair, blimey! That’s some story - really good to know you’re back on the mend though! I guess that’s the thing I should have mentioned - machines like the ADV have the ability to extend a persons riding career on two wheels and personally I don’t care what the shape or style of the machine is that enables that to happen. Two wheels are always fun, four wheels are just transport and while the ADV is very practical, it leans over in corners like a bike so it’s always going to be more fun. Anyway, great to hear from you Alistair, sorry you had spend some cash on watching the previous videos, but hey, it seems to have worked out ok 😀 All the best, cheers, Phil.
I did a 2,500 km tour around Thailand on an ADV 350 and can confirm it is a high quality, reliable and sufficiently speedy touring machine. You can't take it 'off-road' but you can ably tackle poor quality road surfaces and flat dirt tracks.
Morning Mike, thanks for dropping by and that sounds like a cracking trip - good to know it coped well as I'll be off to Europe later on this year on mine and I can't wait! All the best, cheers, Phil.
I just wanna point out that you reviews had major impact on getting my ADV350. Ditched my 2022 Ducati Monster and happily awaiting arrival of my blue ADV 350
Hello Dave’s Desk, hope you’re doing well and good to hear from you. Blimey, from a Monster to an ADV, that’s quite some switch! Really hope you like it! I must admit it took me a while to appreciate the ADV for what it is and what it can do as opposed to comparing it to a bike but I’m really enjoying it these days. Zero hassle and stress and great round bends and it’s even better now I’ve fitted Michelin tyres. Well, the blue is a lovely colour and let me know what you think when it arrives. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Got one earlier this year for commuting after a lot of TH-cam viewing. Yours and RocketMans videos convinced me that the adv350 was a great choice. And it was/is! Only thing I’m not satisfied with is the loud rattling noise from the “gearbox” that drowns the engine sound. Super practical and comfortable and actually, a lot of motorcyclist (not HD) saluting me as it doesn’t quite look like a scooter from the front.
Hey Jaak...Great to hear from you and I feel very humbled that you were in part persuaded by me messing about on a scooter! Thanks! As for the rattling noise...Hmmm...I don't know if I'm easily pleased or it it's because I always wear earplugs - but I hardly notice any noise from the scooter at all - just a sort of engine humming noise with a tiny bit of exhaust. I'll go for a ride without earplugs and see what I think. Genuinely though, if I had noticed it I would have mentioned it as it's stuff like that which can be really annoying! That's good news on getting tother riders waving at you! That sometimes happens to me - the front looks more like a bike, so someone starts to wave and then they get embarrassed as they get closer ha ha ha. All good fun! All the best, Phil.
Always scenic and entertaining, Phil. Glad you’re enjoying the ADV and CL and, most importantly, enjoying life back on 2 wheels … and 2 legs! Stay well my friend. Rgds/- Stephen
Evening Stephen, how are you doing? Well, I hope. Good to hear from you as always and yes, I’m throughly enjoying the wheels and having two working legs is quite good also 😀 And likewise, stay well Stephen, all the best, cheers, Phil.
Hi Phil, nice to hear your resume. I bought my ADV 350 used last summer and ride the Ducati Scrambler on the side (both after a long motor cycle orcycling break of over 15 years). However, like you, I have to say that riding this scooter is completely different and I discover a lot of things I've been driving past on my motorcycle for years. It is, as you already mentioned, a more conscious, more enjoyable driving. You said "floating" about it, which I absolutely underline. Even in my case in the Austrian Alps, where mountains, passes and their slopes are common, this can be done easily with around 30 HP. I'm glad you see it that way too. All the best with the new moped and always have a good trip. It's nice that you're keeping the ADV, I hope to see a few more videos with it and your jokes about it. Greetings from the foot of the Alps, near Vienna.
Hello KG, hope you're having a great weekend in The Alps...I'm quite jealous! I think the 'difference' point you make is exactly it - when I've been riding a bike for a while and then use the ADV (or vice-versa) it's just so different that it's actually just very refreshing. Then, given the ADV is all about making everything as easy as possible the 'floating' sense of calmness is just lovely. I do like a bit a bit of excitement every so often, but I guess it's like music - listening to 140 BPM techno all day without something more soothing would put a person in a very poor state of mind I think! Good to hear the ADV doesn't struggle with The Alps also, I really can't wit for my trip later this year now. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hi! Your videos helped me with choosing this honda. I bought the same scooter a month ago and am extremely pleased and impressed with it. Before that, I had a Suzuki sfv 650, and I drove it quite rarely, but I ride a Honda almost every day, I can also take my wife with me, and her seat soft and comfortable. Thank you and good luck, you're doing awesome!
Good morning and thanks very much for your comments - good to know you're enjoying the ADV and that you found the earlier videos useful in making a decision. Thanks again, safe riding, cheers, Phil.
hello Phil, cbt guy here 60 years old and just bought my first bike/scooter. Honda forza 125cc, 120mpg, brill machine 75 to 80 mph. So many things to like about these scooters, storage, wind protection, comfort, twist and go etc etc etc
Hello @wantsomefries, how are you doing and great to hear from you. Yeah, you're so right, you can't really beat them can you, plus, they'll put up with so much abuse and will no doubt keep on running when dinosaurs are back roaming the earth again....Thanks for dropping by, all the best, cheers, Phil.
Hi, Phil. Firstly, I'm really glad that you've made what seems to be a really successful recovery. I want to take this opportunity to wish you continued health and happiness, and all the very best for whatever the future holds. I can see that you're very happy with your ADV 350, and mentioned that it happily cruises along the motorway at 80-ish m.p.h. Is this really the case? If so, then coupled with the enormous undersea storage capacity, then I think it's a complete touring machine. Once again, it's wonderful to see you so fit and well. Warmest regards, Neil. :)
Hey Neil, good to hear from you again and thanks very much for your kind words. The mad thing is, even two years later, mobility is STILL improving. It's incredible and I never dared to guess it would be as good as this. As you can imagine, I'm very happy! The ADV will easily cruise at an indicated 80MPH, it feels smooth and unstressed and it gets there quite quickly. Yes, it's revving a bit (around 8000 RPM) but there's another 10MPH in hand. These engines are designed to rev high and be reliable and super smooth. So yes, it's a proper little tourer I reckon - and it's so easy! Can't wait for the trip! Thanks again Neil, hope all is well with you, cheers, Phil.
I bought an ADV 2 moths ago, after I watched some reviews on youtube (including yours)... my main question is how do you manage to keep that fuel consumption? I tried really hard, but I managed only 56 mpg... You had the same range / fuel consumption when the scooter was new? Thank you, wish you all the best.
Hello! Good to hear from you....Er, hmmmm.....I don't know! I pin the throttle everywhere! The fuel consumption I quoted in the video is the overall average consumption for the last 14 months and around 4,000 miles. I've done some long trips droning up and down the A1 where the real-time average consumption seems to shoot up to well over 80mpg so perhaps that's skewed it a little? Also in the first few months of ownership, while I can't remember the exact fuel consumption, it was lower than I expected so perhaps things will improve over time? I'd be interested to see how you get on over time though. All the best, cheers, Phil.
I test rode the ADV but found it didn't really suit me as it was a bit tight on the leg room for me - so I tried a BMW C400GT and now, like you, am a convert. My brother and I recently did over 1000 miles touring the Scottish highlands. He was on a Forza 350 and feels the same way about his as you do about yours.
Hello, good to hear from you. The C400GT is a great looking scooter and certainly looks good fun. I think this size of scooter is just about perfect and they have certainly converted me for good and I’m really looking forward to doing a longer tour like you did with your brother. You must have had a blast! All the best, thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
Buying at end of June - been looking at a Triumph Speed 400, Honda CL500, Forza 350 and ADV 350. Your ADV in black looks fantastic. Definitely leaning towards it now.
Good morning Belfast! That's some range of machines you're looking at there! I can definitely recommend the CL as a cracking and fun bike although of course, it's usage characteristics are very different and it's a much more mellow / gentle ride that the CL or indeed any bike. Anyway, thanks for stopping and let me know what you decide to do, cheers, Phil.
I bought a new one about 6 weeks ago after watching your videos. I think it’s brilliant. I also have a Honda ncx 750. My so called friends don’t let me know when they are going out for a ride on weekends now even though I’ve got the NCX750. Doesn’t bother me though. I’ve found out who my real friends are🤣🤣🤣
Good morning Mr. SuperSpace! Ha ha, yeah, 'real friends'!! Who need's 'em? Listen, when you rock up with a load of stuff stashed under the seat, food, drink or a foot pump in case of a puncture, they'll want to be your friend then! I'll wave the next time I see you :-) All the best, cheers Phil.
Interesting! I'm currently deciding between an ADV 350 and a 2022 NC750X DCT. The only thing that's really pushing me in the NC750 direction is I'm worried about not being able to do overtakes on the 350. Am I worrying unduly? I used to ride bigger bikes like Street Triples - just wondering if I'm going to miss that power.
@zootius Well, only you can say I guess but practically, if I’m on anything other than a motorway and I’m doing 65 - 70 I won’t bother overtaking as it’s not fast enough to do it safely (for me) and anyway that’s a nice speed on the ADV. Below that speed it’s quick enough. On motorways though and with the room to do so, I’ll use all the engine power to overtake if that’s the right thing to do - it cruises easily at an indicated 75 with another 10 mph in hand should you need it. Compared to a bike of course it won’t leap past stuff on a whiff of throttle in 4th gear but you know, it does ok. I’m interested to see how it performs going over the Alps later on this year though! Hope that helps, all the best, cheers, Phil.

Hello AK, thanks for stopping by. I can't wait either! I'm off in mid-september so the first video should be out October time I think. I'll be as quick as I can! All the best, cheers, Phil.
I'm absolutely dumbfounded as to why more people don't ride scooters. They're waaay more comfortable, have more storage, and they're so much easier to ride than a motorcycle 🤔
Hey Alan, thanks for stopping by and I couldn’t agree more. The Europeans have got it right! I do still like bikes though 😀 all the best, cheers, Phil.
I've had three, an old YP Majesty 250, then an Xmax 250 and lastly a Silverwing, they are wonderfully useful things. But....totally uninvolving and l didn't keep any of them very long. I think only London has a significant number used as they would be in Europe, for the rest of the UK bikes are largely toys.
Hello - totally agree there’s a difference between logic and passion between scooters and bikes that in turn means one is a lot less of a visceral experience than the other. I still enjoy them both though, it’s just a different kind of enjoyment. On the scooter I find I hardly think about the machine and just enjoy the environment and not about exploiting the machines performance or handling, on a bike I want to take corners well and use the engine so it’s a lot more about the machine and course the looks. Place for both I guess and for getting somewhere I don’t really want to go, it’s the scooter every time and it’s a lot better than a car. Unless it’s snowing 😀 All the best, cheers, Phil.
I actually have an involving scooter, a 1962 Vespa GL, l've always had both. We are moving to Spain next Spring then l'll probably just have 1 vehicle, maybe an Xmax again. 👍
Hello! Great video! Im taking the delivery of my blue 2024 Adv350 next week and i have a question for you: in the scooter manual it mentions that for the first service at 1000km you should only change the oil and oil filter. Did you also change the transmission fluid? Or did you have this talk with your Honda dealer? Its interesting to me how for my old Sym scooter they recommended to do that and now for the big boy Honda they dont. Thank you!
Hello, good to hear from you and congratulations on the purchase of your new ADV - hope you get some good weather for the first ride. As for your question, to be honest it never even crossed my mind! I remember flicking through the maintenance schedule and seeing that the transmission oil should be changed after two years at which point I completely forgot about it! I’ve not had a scooter before so I’ve no experience of whether this is normal, good or bad? Presumably it’s all been tested in order to determine the maintenance schedules and personally I’ve not heard of any ADV’s having any transmission issues so I guess I’m relaxed about it. Not sure if that helps but if you find out when you pick yours up it would be great to know. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hi Phil, like to see you’re giving it some stick! 🤣 Sorry, mate! Anyway, great review! Happy that you are continuing to enjoy your biking after your forced layoff! Great that you’re going touring again too! I just went to Bristol from Essex to visit family on my VFR800 & enjoyed every mile! Hondas are just brilliant! Safe riding, mate! 🏍️😎👍
Hey Paul, how are you doing? I was wondering if anyone was going to make that particular quip and you didn’t disappoint Paul 😀 Well, done, next time you’re this far up north, the biscuits are on me! And thanks for the comments and encouragement past, present and future - this year is going to be great…even if it has started chucking it down again. Good to see the mighty VFR is still conducting you in style, grace and absolute reliability around the country also. Hondas… just work don’t they? All the best to you and yours, cheers, Phil.
I bought an ADV 350 last year, my wife is scared of being a pillion on my Triumph Tiger 900 so she bought this for us and I absolutely love it. As you said, the economy and storage are a no brainier. The Tiger is now for sale, although I do have two other Naked bikes on order 🤣
Hello and it’s great to hear from you. I think you touch on a really good point there and one that I wished I’d made in the video - that scooter like the ADV and others are really accessible and non-threatening for riders or pillions! I think it something that dyed in the wool bike enthusiasts forget - that not everyone shares that enthusiasm and that something a little gentler and more accessible, can bring enthusiasts and those who are not, closer together - literally and metaphorically. Great story! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hi Phil ive really enjoyed your videos on the ADV and you definitely influenced me to buy one,After a month of owning it and a 1000 miles later I can honestly say I love it! I must add that all my previous bikes were sports bikes, blades ect but for financial reasons I can’t justify having a sports bike which I only ride on those rare summer days, but I can use the ADV for work, shopping and pleasure riding whilst returning 85mpg! I’m definitely a convert but just don’t tell anyone 😉 I’m really looking forward to you touring on your ADV ATB 🙏
Morning Paul, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment - really appreciate it and great to know you're enjoying the ADV - and don't worry, I won't tell anyone....You can trust me :-) Hope you have a great summer riding the scoot and the touring stuff will be out around Autumn time I hope. All the best, cheers, Phil.
Glad you found the ‘stick of truth’😆. I’ve met plenty of people in Europe long distance touring on ‘super scoots’, I even nod or wave to them and I ride a Multistrada. If I still worked I’d have one for commuting, they are so practical…
@@IanTed Hey Ian, the 'stick of truth' 😀 I like that! I just need to remember where I threw it now...Good to hear you wave at scootery types though - as a man of much magnanimity I would expect nothing less from you! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Had mine for 8 month's its fantastic value for money best mid size scooter, only found the the seat a bit uncomfortable but a air seat cured that and you are right regarding the CL500 i reckon the adv is quicker (after recent recent teast ride)
Thanks for dropping by David and I couldn’t agree more with respect to VFM. Personally I’m very happy with the seat but seats (both bikes and human ones) are quite particular 😀 All the best, cheers, Phil.
Nice one Sir, was up your way going/coming-back from NW 500 which is a con, turned out NW 1500! Took my Honda Same-as-yours and what a hoot, other bikes on the tour were up to 1250 cc but did the 350 fret, no-way! Saw mph north of 80 and the mpg was just over 83, so your obviously not going fast enough Phil!
Ah Mr. Doolittle, very good to hear from you again. Sounds like you had a cracking ride on your ADV and good to know it didn’t let the side down at all. “What a hoot” Good phrase and I couldn’t agree with it more! Hmmm….Yes, I probably need to try harder by the sounds of it..All the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Do your foreign trips include others or just thee and thyself? Hopefully we earthlings will learn something about your travels, like beaming atop the Grossglockner? The little Applecross pass was enough for this 'old git'!
Good evening Doctor D..My trips to foreign lands are solo only, or at least they have been for the last few decades and will be later on this year. And yes, plans are afoot for er, something 🤔 As for Applecross, well, I did it many years ago on a GPz900R and had a thoroughly miserable time - the weather was grim, surface awful and clutch feathering all the way. Plus nothing was open. So yeah, it was enough for me also!
Ha ha morning Stuart...All good with you? Well, I'm not being intentionally mysterious or fishing for click-bait, I just want to make sure all is well with the new purchase first! It's a Guzzi though, with a 7 in the name...Hmmm...Has that given the game away? Oh well....All the best, cheers, Phil.
I can relate to the 'feeling smug' comment, when I ride down to the coast, I'm walking around in shorts and flip-flops, because all my gear is underneath the seat of my scooter. Watching guys walk by in full leathers carrying their helmets and sweating buckets is quite entertaining as my inner voice screams, 'get a scooter!' 😂
Hey Alan, ha ha yeah. I quite like the tortoise and the hare vibe also (not that the ADV is a tortoise of course) - but on a long ride when you get overtaken at high speeds but still get where you’re going first AND can walk normally as opposed to looking as though you’ve just got off a horse 😀 Love it! Thanks for dropping by Alan, have a good week, cheers Phil.
Great vid Phill I'm really toying with the idea of a premium scooter as I'm just bored of my bike at the mo.. and the thought of just twist and go is really appealing but I do have major anxiety about what other bikers think about scooter riders my issue I know..🤔🤔 I've just subscribed aswell👍
Hey Mick, good to hear from you, hope you’re doing well and glad you enjoyed the video - thanks! It’s well worth a go on one if you get the chance. They are quite a different vibe to a bike - kinda gentle, easy and pleasant but on say the ADV for example, they can handle just like a bike. For me it makes a journey less about the bike and more just about enjoying where you’re going or if commuting, making it as hassle free as possible. Plus they do go quite well! As for the anxiety issues, you can always join Scooters Anonymous, stand in a circle and say the words “my name is Mick and I own a scooter” 😀 After a few days you just won’t care I promise! Thanks for the sub, all the best Mick, cheers, Phil.
Hey Kram...Good to hear from you - that's a proper little and large combination you've got there! I'm impressed! Part of the fun is moving between two completely different machines isn't it? Safe riding on whatever you choose to take out for a spin over the summer, all the best, cheers, Phil.
Evening! Great to hear from you. From my perspective the scooter works really well out of the box so aside from a rack / topbox I’m personally not going to upgrade anything else. The rear suspension is quite basic, however, it performs well from a road holding perspective and while it can be quite firm (and unadjustable) it’s perfectly fine - likewise with the front. Hope that helps, cheers, Phil.

Own a HD Sportster 1200 C from 2004 and bought 18 month ago a Honda PCX as a commuter to replace my car… Since this time the lil PCX has more or less even replaced the Harley! Even for 2up with my girlfriend. When I started riding in the 80s I had a Vespa PX and loved it - so I knew how much fun a scooter could be, but that a lil 125cc scooter made me quit my beloved Sportster made me ask myself, why did I all these years haven’t looked at a scooter at all! Maybe I do upgrade to a 350-400cc scooter in the future, but for now I will stay with the PCX and sell my Sportster next year.
Good morning Mr. Skysaxon, great to hear from you. That's some difference in machines you've got there! And yeah, I've been asking myself that very same question also - it's seems mad that I only ever considered one due to an accident - I wish I had one years ago, especially when I was doing 800KM / week commuting. Still, we both got there in the end! All the best cheers, Phil.
Hi Phil, it's nice to hear that your mobility is still improving. You've got all reasons being proud of your efforts for healing. Now to something completely different i.e. the ADV which certainly is a great scooter able to provide, as you say, a comfortable and economic ride. I hope you don't get me wrong when I'm saying that notwithstanding your hymns of praise for the ADV I've got the feeling that you continue to be a motorbike guy (if you know what I mean). That doesn't mean I doubt your judgment on the ADV. Not at all. However my idea is that those who get hold of the motorbike gene will never be 'cured' 100%. Of course, there's plenty of nice things to enjoy while riding a scooter but...😉. Maybe I am wrong but this is at least what I got from my own experience (not only from riding a scooter but the same is valid for cruisers (my Vulcan S). Would be interested in getting your point of view on that idea. However, it's a great idea come over to Mainland Europe on the ADV and I hope you'll give me a ring when you'll be in/near Luxembourg. It would be a pleasure to meet with you and show you some nice tracks in the Mosel valley area.
Hey Thomas, good to hear from you again - how are you doing? The mobility is coming along very nicely and is still improving thanks and I personally believe two wheels, combined with better weather is the very best kind of physiotherapy 😀 As for your theory on the motorbike gene, I agree completely. What I’ve tried to do in my ADV videos is talk about the scooter on its own merits and as a motorcyclist but also without attempting a pointless comparison between a bike and scooter. For me the difference with the scooter is that a journey on it is not about the machine or trying to get the most from it or using whatever skills I might have, it’s about everything else - the fresh air, the scenery, the ease of use etc. It’s a much gentler kind of fun compared to a bike, but still a very nice experience. From a pure riding perspective, it’s a bike every time but I’ve come to appreciate the merits of both. And I think understanding that can lead to better choices - for instance I would always commute on a bike, hundreds of miles week up and down the same roads all the time…If I had my time again, I would have done that on a scooter and it would have been ‘better’ and more practical. And perhaps it’s the same for cruisers as you suggest - it’s not about ‘getting the most from the bike’, it’s about cruising along and relaxing. So I’m looking forward to touring on the ADV very much as it will be about places, people and photography and not whizzing around 😀 So no, I’m not cured! And thanks for your kind offer Thomas, I’m a fruitarian and only eat wind-fallen fruit, I like to get up at 05:15 and do tai-chi to Taylor Swift on repeat, so if you can put me up for 89 days (thanks Brexit) that would be great 😆 I’ll let you know when I’ve got half an idea of where I’m going! All the best Thomas, cheers, Phil.
@@mrsilbo6499 Hi Mr Silbo, yes absolutely (at least the rare days it's not raining in the Mosel valley). In fact, we're having such a terrible springtime this year that I decided to take a flight to Bergamo and travelled to Mandello del Lario to pick up a V7 850 for rental at Agostini's to tour around Lake Como for some days. It was such a great experience with great weather, nice food and a great motorbike! How about you and the Griso?
@@thomasreuter1968 Me and the Griso are still enjoying life together, but it has rained buckets in Buckinghamshire too, so not many miles so far this year. Your trip round Lake Como sounds like it was wünderbar!
@thomasreuter1968 That’s probably the finest “dropping of Italian icons into a single sentence” I’ve ever read Thomas! Bellissimo! You have the perfect attitude!
Morning Andrew, ooh blimey...Really? How are you liking the Guzzi then? Fingers crossed you're liking it. I wouldn't listen to me though, no-one else does. As to waxing lyrical about the scoot, well, I can only apologise...Still, if you're enjoying the idiosyncratic charms of the Guzzler, then the serenity and peacefulness of the ADV could be exactly what you're looking for. Uh, sorry, ignore me - especially when talking about biscuits. Let me know what you decide to do Andrew! All the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews I love the Guzzi. I got the V7 850 special and I find it a real, blast. I have an RT1250 and got the Guzzi for pottering around to replace an Interceptor I had which I found a bit gutless. The Guzzi has real character and loves to be revved, it was a real revelation.
@andrewdyson4255 Phew, well, that’s good to know Andrew…And yes, that’s the thing with the smaller air cooled Guzzi engines, they have nice torque characteristics in the mid range but also it’s worth revving them to get the most from them. When I got my first one the mechanic said keep it revving they last longer that way!
Is the suspension compliant, Phil? Great underseat capacity. Keyless puts me off. It's unnecessary. It's certainly quick for a 330cc bike. CVT is brilliant; you're always on the torque. The rear brake lever lock is a good idea for your purpose. I'll be interested to see how it performs on tour. Brilliantly, I'd imagine. Nick
Hey Nick, thanks for stopping by. The suspension is spot on 90% of the time - the only time it struggles (or rather you feel it) is on high-frequency bumps and irregularities - i.e potholes, speed bumps etc. Even then it doesn't send you into space - you just 'feel' it. Either it way it remains on line always. On medium to good roads it just glides. It's lovely. On tour, I've got a sneaking feeling it's going to be just great. All the best Nick, have a good evening, cheers, Phil.
@@podunkman2709 Hello again, mine's been 100% so far but I did notice in the manual that the battery should be replaced after 2 years so I'll probably do that before heading of on my euro-tour..Thanks for the reminder, all the best, cheers, Phil.
Good stuff Stanley..So let me ask you…Does anyone wave at you now? And do you mind if they don’t? Of course not! Great to hear from you, have good evening, cheers, Phil.
Hello! I eventually got one, I've got many options but I often find myself riding this scooter. Fun, practical, economical. I noticed the newer ones have more glossy front bits and more colour choices but I'm happy with it, now I'm over the scooter rider thing as you mention! Easy to ride, puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.
Hello TeamTempest - great to hear from you and of course, I couldn't agree more! I think it's perfect for when you want to focus on the environment and not the bike - gliding around the countryside, soaking everything in with the scoot just humming and gliding along is just lovely. While I've now got a bike also, I still thoroughly enjoy the scooter as it has its own particular set of merits compared to the bike and it's nice to switch between the two. All the best and safe riding during the summer, cheers, Phil.
Hello again and thank you very much. A scoot is well worth a ride...I found mine kinda grew on me as I stop comparing it to a bike and just enjoyed it for its own merits and utilised those merits. Sure, it's not as exciting as a bike but what it does is make every ride less about the bike and much more about enjoying whatever environment you're going through. And as for commuting - I wish I had one years ago! New bike is Guzzi with a 7 in the name :-) You may have guessed that! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hello..... I am looking at either an ADV350 or a Yamaha X max 300 for touring around Southeast Asia.. I am a Yamaha fan but some of the roads I will be on the ADV would be better suited to.. Since Yamaha don't make a ADV version of the X max... Looks like the ADV350 is the better option... "Suppose I can always paint it blue"... I live in Thailand half the year...
Hey Peter, you mean you spend 6 months of the year in a warmer place than the UK? With proper strength Singha on tap? And warm rain? I’m not jealous at all ! I’ve only ever bounced on the Xmax but it was the bike-style setup of the front forks (and bike style headstock setup) of the ADV, that drew me to it. It handles like a bike but whether that’s a good or bad thing, really depends on what you’re looking for. For me, the ADV will get me to most of the places I want to get to get to..While the XMax, no doubt do the same is probably more urban and city focused? Either way, both are going to be great for your needs! Cheers, Phil.
Oh Phil! I despair! Despite your denials you we’re obviously trying your best to be a scooter expert! As a result of this video Jim has flown back into the UK. He’s gunning for you…….I can’t help you this time, you’re on your own ! Arming yourself with small twigs isnt going to help! 😂
Evening Jon, I know, I know, I know...I despair also. All I've a got a crooked twig plus I throw like a girl - no hope is there? I've got you on speed dial though Jon and have written you into my will. If anything happens - you'll NEVER have to buy another rawlplug or self-tapper again! I will keep you up to date. Have a good evening. All the best, Phil.
I'm really not happy with the keyless ignition. Keep getting stuck can't get it started. Other owners having same problem... Not reliable should have had a key.... The bikes great but just can't start it! Stuck waiting for the ignition to let me turn the switch???
Hey Mark, good to hear from you and sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having. I don’t doubt them at all but I can honestly say, in the last 18 months I’ve had zero problems with the keyless ignition. I push the centre button down, wait for it to turn blue and it always turns and always starts. I haven’t even replaced the battery yet. Compared to my Triumph Scrambler which was a nightmare the implementation on the ADV is spot on - for me at least. Despite that, like you, I’d still prefer a physical key though! Let me know if you get it sorted and what the issue was, all the best, cheers, Phil.
I got mine ADV 350 2 months ago...everything is great, but...what is your opinion about front suspension? Over bumps, medium speed, when braking with the front brake (moderate braking)? Feeling that the wheel will fall off...unpleasant impact sound?
Afternoon Aleksandar, the whole suspension package I find is good and the roadholding is brilliant but as mentioned in the earlier reviews, it is 'crashy' on high frequency bumps which I think is a symptom of lets face it, budget suspension that has been setup relatively stiff (compared to say the Forza) in order to provide the aforementioned roadholding. Having said that though, I haven't had that feeling you describe at all? Yes in that situation it will jolt your arms and as the bike is 90% plastic it does make some noises but I always feel that it is coming from the bodywork or whatever it is I have in the storage. Most times I also use the back brake at the same time which I find makes the scooter much more composed under braking. Hope that helps - let me know how you get on, cheers, Phil.
I bought a lever lock for my lad, who lives in Cambridge, where there's a particular problem with scrotes nicking bikes. I guess you don't get much scrotery in the borders, Phil, just the occasional band of reavers popping over for a laugh? Really looking forward to the European tour, we can renew our discussion on continental biscuits, started when you were piloting the lamented Z900RS in Johnny Foreigner land. And just to show I do watch to the end, I have no idea what you've gone and bought now - a KTM 1390 Brabus perhaps? Then you could call it the Jaffa Cake. Must dash, got a labrador to go and fetch that stick you chucked away..
Afternoon Hugh, how are you doing? Jon has been getting concerned about you missing in action but I’ve explained that your MK Dons franchise and candy floss stand takes up a lot of your time. Scrotery in The Borders? Well, Mrs Miggins had her topiary badly pruned the other day while across the water in Spittal (bad place that) a man was seen spitting. Rievers though, they’re a bad lot, however, as I don’t own any sheep and have no ancestors who were at Flodden, they tend to leave me alone. Ah yes, Euro biscuits. I can assure you that will be a thing this time around because, of course, I have 48 litres of storage reserved for said comestibles and have plotted a route based on Carrefour locations and local patisseries. Expect closeups. KTM Brabus…Hmmm…Overstyled, hideous and designed for minor oligarchs with gold tapped bathrooms? Well, not quite - it’s made in Mandello del Lario, carries the flavour of olives about it and rumbles , wheezes and ticks like a barrel organ. Details tomorrow once I get it started 😀 Hello to the dog, cheers, Phil.
Thanks for your video. I think I would have chosen the Forza 350 for extra storage space (where I live you get a topbox for free) and extra weather protection.
Hello! You get a topbox for free? That’s a good deal! It all depends on personal usage needs I guess - the Forza, SH and ADV are all great machines and it depends what you’re going to do with the bike to decide on which one. Weather protection isn’t a big deal for me and I slightly preferred the looks of the ADV but I’m sure I’d have been very happy with the Forza - especially the dashboard which is much nicer than the ADV. all the best, thanks for dropping by, cheers, Phil.
Thanks for the video, I was considering one of these but when I went to sit on one I was surprised how big it was, I could not reach the ground (5’8 with 29 inch leg). Well I will stick with my Honda CB250RS.
Hey Hugh, good to hear from you. And yes, you're right, they are quite substantial - I'm 5'10 with 32" inside leg so it works for me - even then though, I find myself in some situations sliding towards the 'tunnel' and standing up. It sounds odd but after a while it becomes completely normal. Luckily the scoot is brilliantly balanced with the weight down low so you can trickle along on a whiff of throttle feet up with no problems. CB250RS you say? Like an original one from the '80's ? Respect if so! Loved those bikes! Square headlights should make a comeback! All the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews it’s good thanks. Not 100% strength but I’m riding again although won’t be running any marathons for a while. Hope your leg continues to improve.
Scooter boys tend to use only the central stand.. It's a scooter thing. I will tell you what many other scooter are. Most scooters have crappy suspention, specially on the older generations from years ago and really suffer from that. You have one of the good ones. But they are improving.
Hello Stefan_trekkie, very good to hear from you and I didn’t know that using the centre stand was a thing, I’ll use it more now 😀 A good friend of mine used to ride a scooter in the ‘80’s and watching him struggle on it did put me off one I have to say. Like you say the suspension and overall handling seemed awful compared to what I was riding at the time. He eventually switched to a bike and hasn’t looked back! The ADV is a good thing though and I’m very happy with it. All the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Seen you limping like that around the scooter brings tears to my eyes. I am limping almost the same way, had an accident few months ago and I have knee surgery coming up in 2 weeks. And thinking of buying a new scooter just to get my mind of that.
@@Stefan_trekkie Hey Stefan, sorry to hear about your accident and the very best of luck and a quick recovery from your surgery in June. I'm feeling really fortunate to be honest, I've progressed from a place where it was doubtful I would be able to walk without a stick and certainly not ride a bike again, to now being able to do both. It takes time to heal but you'll get there. Let me know how you get on, all the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Hello Phil. I am ok, recuperating at home after the surgery .. I was not that scared in the hospital, but thought I loud be very scared. Walking with crutches for now... It will take time.. Looking at bikes at the moment. 😁😁
@@Stefan_trekkie Hey Stefan, that's great news! Really pleased to hear that it's gone OK for you and that you're on the way to recovery. Yeah, it will take time but more time to look at bikes so it's not all bad 😀 Listen to the physio!! Good luck and all the best - please check in whenever you can as it will be great to get your updates on progress...Next step...get the bones healed and just one crutch! Cheers, Phil.
Well Phil, you persuaded me. Got mine last week and have been riding it every chance I can get. If you recall I was worrying if this would have enough oomph (my last bike was a Street Triple R). But I totally agree with you about a feeling of serenity - I've lost the urge to razz about everywhere and am just enjoying the countryside. I got overtaken by some sports bikes but I just felt sorry for them that they weren't as comfy and chilled as me! I am a bit worried about it getting nicked though so I've fitted a SHAD "snake" lock - made a little vid if you're interested :) Cheers, James th-cam.com/video/FtkHVq0sshM/w-d-xo.html
Afternoon James, great to hear from you again...So blimey! You did it! it's good to know that the sensation of 'scooter smugness' has affected you also ha ha ha. How are you finding the suspension - it's pretty crude compared to proper bikes and a little crashy but as it always holds the line I'd much rather have that - what do you think? Great video by the way - I've not come across those SHAD locks before and it sorta feels like a good idea although as you mention it's not a five minute job to fit and I'm not sure whether I like the position of it. I've gone down the route of getting a LiteLock - all the tests say it's five minutes for a mains powered angle grinder, to get through it plus of course with 48 Litres of underset storage (another reason for being unbearably smug) there's no reason not to carry it. Here's to serene riding James and lets hope for a good summer, all the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Ha yes the rear suspension is a bit simplistic and got out of its happy zone on one bit of bad road that my old bike had no problem with - had me bouncing around like a space hopper :D You certainly feel bad quality roads more than a regular bike, but it's not unacceptable to me. What I am surprised at is that even though the seat is so soft and squidgy, I'm getting a sore bum after about an hour's riding. Find myself standing up on the running boards to alleviate the pressure. Maybe my bod's just getting old, who knows :D All the best mate.
Hey Bart, ha ha yeah, that would be quite something! An extra 10-15 HP maybe? Ok, I take it all back - if Honda bring that out I might be swapping the 350 sooner than I thought....Good to know you're enjoying your ADV, ride safe and all the best, cheers, Phil.
Thanks Phil , sardonic as ever , my new for 24 blue turned up 2nd week in feb ( on order for 3 months ! ) now as of 23rd may 3891 miles , afc is sitting at 75.3 mpg overall . I agree with everything you say about it , only thing i have noticed with mine is how hot the rear tyre gets after a longish journey , ie w/sussex down to Swanage on monday , it wasn't warm , it was HOT . Wonder it its to do with being a smaller , thus more revolutions ?? . It was made to wobble on its centerstand couple of weeks ago in a biker cafe car park , it was its big brother XADV750 , he parked next to Billy ( whizz or nomates , both as good ) and proceeded to fall off on the righthand side ?? nudging Billy with his shoulder as he fell , i just stood transfixed waiting for disaster , but he just rocked and stayed upright .
Hey Colin, sardonic? Crikey, I had to look that up. That’s a nice blue actually and from a purely shallow perspective it should be easier to photograph as mine seems to suck all light from the surroundings like some two wheeled black hole. That’s some good usage you’ve got though Colin! I’m about the same just that it’s taken me longer! Interesting you mention the tyres as I had a section on the video about tyres which I cut as I fell asleep - but the tyre wear is much more than I expected and I wondered like you, is it because the wheels go round more compared to a 17” for the same distance? I reckon no more than 5,500 from the rear. That’s a great centrestand test you conducted though and I can imagine your face as the events unfolded 😀 Great story! ADV 350s wobble but they don’t fall down 😀 All the best, cheers, Phil.
Hello Mr. ProblemSlayer - I can't comment on that as I've only ever bounced up and down on one in the showroom! To be honest, you probably go wrong with either - I guess the Xmax is perhaps a little plusher maybe? Either way, I'm very happy with the ADV and the fit/finish is holding up well - noting that it's early days as yet. All the best. cheers, Phil.
@80eightReviews thanks Phil, it's an interesting comparison your right probably can't go wrong with either. Glad your enjoying the adv great scoot I've ridden it
I have one, not happy with it. Too much petrol. consumption, maintenance also far too expensive. Also fake motorbike I mean no off-road motorcycle, too hard springs. Had to immediately Replaced the screen in 26inch. It's what you say, you have no experience with motorbikes. About maintenance the price in Thailand (where they make them) Oil, filter, gear oil and earfilter cost in Thailand around 1920baht. Around 50 euros. Yamaha xmax same maintenance 1050 Baht. around 25 euros. Also that I have heard, the oil they use in the shop can only last a maximum of 3000 km. Honda 10/30.
Morning - good to hear from you and those are interesting comments...I can't comment on the situation in Thailand but the servicing costs here in the UK are yes, expensive, but commensurate to the other manufacturers (although Ducati and BMW can be excessive). Everything is mad expensive here these days and there have been lots of wage rises to combat rising inflation so it all sort of feeds through. When I got my ADV I took out the service plan - so £400 for three services over three years which is kinda OK and also hedges against further price rises. Also, to clarify, I've been riding bikes for 40 years continuously and have had around 60 bikes in that time - everything from sports bikes, tourers, dirt bikes etc, but the ADV is my first scooter. I'm OK with the screen to be honest, I wasn't expecting or wanting full-on weather protection and I find it takes the edge off the wind pressure so I'm very happy with that. I can't comment on the oil quality though but I figure it's under warranty and if anything happens it will probably happen in the next few years. Anyway, sorry to hear your experience hasn't been the best but I can honestly say, mine has been great, I bought the scoot myself and I'm very happy with it. If anything changes, I'll let you know, all the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews I concur. I have a BMW GS and an R1, been riding non stop (despite crashes ) since The Jam were No.1 and my FS1E pegs scraped. I purchased the ADV350 pretty much on your non review , mainly as you are not a scooter fan boy either. After four months of ownership, the other bikes are gathering dust, I also plan to tour, but first will do a 400 mile round trip to Donnington this coming weekend for WSBK. I get ignored by many ‘bikers’, Deliveroo rides look on with envy and I am smug in the knowledge that I am averaging 78 mpg, cruise in comfort at 75 mph. I have fitted a Puig touring screen, which does enhance the level of serenity. CRF possibly on the list! Serving cost? It is what it is.
Got rid of my 1200GS and am currently riding my ADV350 to Slovenia. I can confirm that it is a great machine for longer distance touring.
@ManolisOuds Ha Ha GS cow bike! I like it! Cheers, Phil.
I wonder if with time it doesn't get boring (?)
The position on the scooter is also different.
Thank you Phil,
All the best👋
We tried to change the strange noise:
studio.th-cam.com/users/videogMsZfIEGfBU/edit
Yeah, the saluting is a must :) I do always, and in most cases others salute back :)
Ha ha that’s good to know! All the best, cheers, Phil.
Thx and greetings from Germany, Thomas.
Great review from a Honest Biker, love this gentleman’s reviews so honest and informative.
Thanks very much John, I’m overwhelmed! The biscuits are in the post 😉 All the best, cheers, Phil.
I bought my ADV 350 used last summer and ride the Ducati Scrambler on the side (both after a long motor cycle
orcycling break of over 15 years).
Warmest regards,
Neil.

Can't wait for the videos of your European trip in Adv 350! Thanks for sharing the video!
Stigma
I’m definitely a convert but just don’t tell anyone 😉
I’m really looking forward to you touring on your ADV
ATB 🙏
So nice to hear from you again.
Hey Dave, thanks and likewise - hope all is well with you, cheers, Phil.
And yes, plans are afoot for er, something 🤔
As for Applecross, well, I did it many years ago on a GPz900R and had a thoroughly miserable time - the weather was grim, surface awful and clutch feathering all the way. Plus nothing was open. So yeah, it was enough for me also!
Intrigued to say the least as to your next video Phil ,all the best Stuart
Ha ha morning Stuart...All good with you? Well, I'm not being intentionally mysterious or fishing for click-bait, I just want to make sure all is well with the new purchase first! It's a Guzzi though, with a 7 in the name...Hmmm...Has that given the game away? Oh well....All the best, cheers, Phil.
Love it Phill ,fancying a Guzzi myself as a possible retirement present.
@@stuart4024 You deserve it Stuart!
I quite like the tortoise and the hare vibe also (not that the ADV is a tortoise of course) - but on a long ride when you get overtaken at high speeds but still get where you’re going first AND can walk normally as opposed to looking as though you’ve just got off a horse 😀
Love it! Thanks for dropping by Alan, have a good week, cheers Phil.
Great bike review. Sounds like a great set of wheels all the way around.
Thank you very much, I’m thinking about adding a nice wire basket to the front then I’ll be good to go!
@@80eightReviews I know where you can get one... 😅
@findingneutral I thought you might 😀
Great vid Phill I'm really toying with the idea of a premium scooter as I'm just bored of my bike at the mo.. and the thought of just twist and go is really appealing but I do have major anxiety about what other bikers think about scooter riders my issue I know..🤔🤔 I've just subscribed aswell👍
I have its big brother the Xadv 750 and a Grom and love riding them both equally 😁👍🏻
Hey Kram...Good to hear from you - that's a proper little and large combination you've got there! I'm impressed! Part of the fun is moving between two completely different machines isn't it? Safe riding on whatever you choose to take out for a spin over the summer, all the best, cheers, Phil.

Any recommendations regarding upgrading it? Let's say back suspension, or stock is o

Own a HD Sportster 1200 C from 2004 and bought 18 month ago a Honda PCX as a commuter to replace my car…
Since this time the lil PCX has more or less even replaced the Harley!
The mobility is coming along very nicely and is still improving thanks and I personally believe two wheels, combined with better weather is the very best kind of physiotherapy 😀
As for your theory on the motorbike gene, I agree completely.
So I’m looking forward to touring on the ADV very much as it will be about places, people and photography and not whizzing around 😀
So no, I’m not cured!
Hi Thomas - still riding the Guzzi?
I bought a Guzzi V7 having listened to your lyrical waxing, now I fancy a bloody scooter aswell
The keyless works great. No more key for me.
Problems with keyless entry are 99% due to dead batteries. I had it myself. The battery should be replaced after a maximum of 2 years.
@@podunkman2709 Hello again, mine's been 100% so far but I did notice in the manual that the battery should be replaced after 2 years so I'll probably do that before heading of on my euro-tour..Thanks for the reminder, all the best, cheers, Phil.

@80eightReviews Particular set of merits, that's perfect! Indeedy, ride safe kind sir.
Solid vid. Got me thinking about what it might be like to ride a scooter. And a cliffhanger ending too. I look forward to seeing the new bike!

Details tomorrow once I get it started 😀

@@80eightReviews I predict a V85 Special!

Thanks Ian, all OK with you? I do like a nice wheel tbh. Especially a fly through and close-up. All the best, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews I’m good thanks.
@@ianfutcher1518I forgot to ask Ian, how’s the Achilles tendon coming along? Cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews it’s good thanks. Not 100% strength but I’m riding again although won’t be running any marathons for a while. Hope your leg continues to improve.
@@ianfutcher1518Hey Ian, great news - very pleased to hear that, cheers, Phil.
❤❤❤❤
Absolutely!
Please Honda....bring this to US markets!
Definitely they should! I’ve had lots of comments saying the same thing. Time to start a petition 😀 Cheers, Phil.
I am a bit worried about it getting nicked though so I've fitted a SHAD "snake" lock - made a little vid if you're interested :) Cheers, James

I like my adv350 very much. Only an adv500 would be better! 😄
Great vid
Thanks very much Terry, hope all is well, cheers, Phil.
ADV 350s wobble but they don’t fall down 😀
All the best, cheers, Phil.
I think the xmax 300 may be better. Certainly better built and the blue core engine is superb
Glad your enjoying the adv great scoot I've ridden it
@@problemslayer3538 Absolutely...Plus in my case the Honda dealer is much easier to get to! Cheers, Phil.

@@80eightReviews If you look at "the tin" it says Honda ;) You brits and your intrusive RRRRRRRRRRs
Er, well, whateverrrrr. That’s how we pronounce trailing A’s esp. In the North of England. Hopefully the subtitles work 😀
I have one, not happy with it.
I was a little apprehensive at first but actually you are quite witty. Dont overdo it though, you'll quickly become annoying 🤔
Ha ha, that’s OK Jon. And I annoy myself to be honest. Thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
