Wonderful place & the Orcadians are so friendly. Stayed in Kirkwall during June this year (2022). Would definitely return & revisit the Ring of Brodgar, Maeshowe & Scara Brae.

They say the Orkney winter is ferocious. Is it the temperature that's bad or the wind? I would have assumed the wind of course, given that it's a very low-lying archipelago but is the weather itself terribly different from mainland Scotland? I've heard it compared to Aberdonian winter.
