    Thanks Matt. An interesting review. I had a number of GoPros way back with the 1, 2, 4 & 6 but stopped for a while and foolishly sold them all off. I restarted 15 months ago and bought the 9. At the time several reviewers were criticising it for shutting down in the way you mention with your 10, however, a firmware update came out about the time I bought mine and resolved the issue - certainly I have never had an issue with it. One thing I particularly like is that the colour balance of the clips shot with my GoPro 9 fits well with footage shot on my Nikon Z9 and Z7iis, however, footage shot with my iPhone 12 MAX Pro has a very noticeably different image and doesn't fit well without considerable colour grading so I tend not to use that despite its sometimes convenience! Now that might make a video subject for you - mixing / comparing footage from Z cameras with GoPros and iPhones!!

    As far as the 10 shutting off, I would recommend flipping the mounting feet out. The lack of airflow on the bottom is what's killing your long-run recordings. It also seemed like the settings for the 10 were a little bit off compared to the others, but I don't have your raw files, so I can't really compare that.

  • @pelanth
    @pelanth ปีที่แล้ว +5

    From my experience, the 10 overheats (on hot days) and eats batteries in 5.3k mode. If you crank it down to 4k it works fine, even in 60fps (unless it's really hot). Not saying you should have to do that, but if you own one already, it's worth a try.

  • @infokanaal

    Great comparison Matt 👏! I love my GP10 with zero issues at all after shooting many TB of footage, although I like the quality of your GP9 files better in your video's.. Seems the zooming is a bit inconsistent in your GP 10 video's. Anyway, I don't like that the camera's get bulkier overtime, GoPro should downsize and release a new Session 11 model with 2022 tech and minimise design. Camera's should also have bluetooth audio-in for external mikes. (which is already build in technology and could be easily introduced with a fw update) Let's see what GoPro will bring out this month! Next video suggestion: Z 30 vs. New Gopro 🙃

    The 10 has been the most reliable in terms of not locking up. The touch screen is a little more responsive. Overall i would suggest only getting the 10 if you need a new GoPro. Agreed the function is not worth it between 8,9,10 for most users. Some have better luck, but the 9 would sometimes trash the recording

The 9 crashed frequently and I can't remember the last time the 10 crashed. Never had issues with over-heating but that could be due to I'm moving while recording.

    I like the 10 for slow motion, but my workhorse is the 7 black on an Inkee Falcon Plus gimbal. I have the 8 and the 10, but the 7 on a gimbal gives me the best footage and I like the size of the body. The Inkee Falcon Plus is also nice and small. Works for me.

    I had gopro 8 black for only 3 days back in end of 2019. It fell from 10 stories height because the suction mount failed while I shot sunset time lapse. The screen was dead, but It still could record via phone, so it was total loss.

    I owned both GoPro 9 & 10 but I never have any over heat issues with either one of them. No doubt the 10 gets very hot. But, I never put any of my GoPros on a flat surface with the mounting feet folding inside “which will trap the heat” and causing overheat. I highly recommend “ALWAYS” mount your GoPro on a tripod or a stick so the heat can dissipate from the bottom.

    Yes, they both overheated in turns while I was recording in Malawi in may. But that was 5.3K recording in 35+ C degrees and they where on constantly. I used one at the time for my B-roll. Battery life is poor (I agree) … maybe that is why they have new batteries for it now!? I will get two of the new ones!

    I own the 7 and the 10, weirdly I find the image quality in 10 so far quite better than the 7, especially in the darker environment. I find that the 7 has tremendous iso blocky noise that ruins a lot of my shots. I don't know if it is pixel compression but they are significantly in large number and was plaguing my footage in the past. But the 10 has it flaws too, I experienced worst than overheat issue, I experienced corruptions, and total shut downs of the 10 in the first week of useage to the point it was unusable. When I tried to get support online, there was chances that I had a dud device so I exchanged the Gopro 10 for a brand new after 2 weeks and since then I experienced very minor flaws, even in very hot weather days. So it appear in my conclusion that QA is very deficient at Gopro, tons of people reporting corrupt/malfunctions/overheat but there's also people that experience none of them.

    I agree the Hero 10 gets really hot, but it's an action camera. Normally you would use it with fast paced sports, in water and not sitting still and then you won't have these kind of issues. The last night shots were a part of a long shot? Could it be the Gopro 10 was really hot? That would be really negative for the low light performance, causing more noise.
    I mostly use the GoPros on FPV drones or with kitesurfing, which is where these kind of cameras are perfect.

    I do not know how this 'group think' has started about the GOPRO 10!.....I've been using the 10 since it was first released, and I got the battery door where you can plug an external battery via USB C....and I NEVER had an overheating issue with that battery door. I did a 3 hour ride on an all terrain bike on an 80 degree day along the C&O canal trail in DC/MD/VA, with an external battery pack connected to the 10, and it did not overheat at all.....When does the 10 overheeat??..... I've had overheating issues with the battery door that came with the camera, which makes sense because the processor in the 10 generates more heat than the previous versions and that heat is not dissipated as easily as the previous versions....plus.... if you do not use the camera as an ACTION CAMERA (cycling, my use/ extreme sports, any activities that involve CONTINUOUS MOVEMENT), then it will overheat. These cameras were not meant to be used as just stationary cams. If you do use them as non-action cams, replace the battery door with a door that allows USB-C external connections.....that hole for the connection also acts as a way to dissipate the heat the cam generates.
