    To challenge Drew on the Lycanthropy as a disease and Hircine not wanting random non-hunters to become his "children" so to speak. I personally disagree heavily. Part of "The Hunt" is survival. If the prey can survive a skirmish with a werewolf I'd say Hircine would see them as worthy of indulging in the hunt to keep on surviving. The fact you are rewarded in his Skyrim questline for either choice you make proves this to me

    • @morrigankasa570
      @morrigankasa570 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yes exactly, Hircine is a fair Daedra he is a big proponent of "Survival of the Fittest!" If you defeat one of his Beasts he respects that and grants you a reward if you fail too bad. Also during his hunt if he wasn't fair he could smite you with barely a thought but, he respects and likes people to have a fair chance. He basically Nerfs himself during his hunts.

    • @darrekworkman5595
      @darrekworkman5595 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plus he is not above calling a hunt on a werewolf he finds unfit. In that case the prey having lycanthropy just makes the hunt fun for Hircine.

      Definitely let us play as multiple lycanthropes. Maybe a questline where Werewolves are in a territorial war with the Wereboar's and you get to pick a side. Depending on the faction you join determines what would be the dominant strain of lycanthropy in the province. The quests could involve taking territory from the other strain, and finding artifacts of Hircine to ensure your dominance over the area. You'd also gain new powers over the questlines as a gift from the Huntsmen himself, of course he sees this as a bit of sport.
      The other strain would still exist after the quest, but they'd be in far fewer number and a more rare encounter.
      The questline wouldn't be forced after obtaining lycanthropy. If you get infected with lycanthropy of either type, it would be entirely possible to go at being a lone wolf without a clan backing you. Thus never starting the questline.

    On the lycanthropy as a disease, it could be a way to both bless and punish one who managed to kill a werebeast.
    In order to catch it, you need to survive a werebeast attack, something unlikely to happen if you're just an ordinary peasant with no interest, let alone experience in hunting. Average man or mer would only survive if a hunter (experienced combatant) saved them, where the affliction could serve as a way to taunt those who lived. The random merchant due to not actually being saved as they are now cursed, and the hunter for failing to do their duty.
    In the cases without a random farmer about to get mauled. The illness could be seen as a reward for being able to best one of Hircine's chosen as you proved that you were the superior hunter, but it could also serve as a curse because you embarrassed Hircine by killing one of his chosen hunters, declaring that they aren't the apex predators Hircine boasts them to be, mocking their existence.
    Just a potential view of things.
    *Edits: typos mostly

    • @Wired_User
      @Wired_User 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I like this! I also feel that Hircine would punish/be pissed at one of his Hounds for “failing” to kill their intended prey. If a hunter got in the way and their prey escaped they’re is an idiot for not properly scoping out the area, or for not judging what prey they could handle. If their prey is a random adventurer and still survived, then man Hircine would consider them a weakling.
      Either way, if a Hound fails to kill everyone they attempt to kill, they probably get punished.

    I think Hircine's quest in elder scrolls 6 should be a blood hunt to determine if a man can stand against his various werebeasts and you end up in a large field/forest with all his werebeasts spawned (1 of each) in various random areas and you kill 2 or 3 before Hircine deems you worthy and you get to choose your form as his gift.

    Silver has been well established in general media to be a werewolf's weakness. It's usually used in the form of a bullet, but any kind of silver would work. Because silver is a "holy metal," unholy creatures such as undead and werecreatures cannot touch it.

    I love moonlight tales as a werewolf mod, I have it set to transformations only during a full moon and I would plan out where I could go and when, hold off on going to town until morning, and every now and then I would forget and would show up in town and would accidentally start transforming so I would scramble to get away.

    On lycanthropy referring to either man-wolf only or man-animal generally. I just watch Shadiveristy talking about boomerangs where he says most of the actual examples of throwing-stick-weapons did not return to the wielder but in popular parlance that is what people mean when they refer to the boomerang-effect.
    The word boomerang comes from aboriginal language/s and that is what stuck.
    We could headcanon the word Lycanthrope based on Cyrodiclic scholars being familiar with werewolves and then foreigners like Nords/Brets taking the Cyrodilic term, not understanding it fully, and then applying it for all shapeshifting things of daedric origin.

    On your point about Hircine changing his rules I'd say he doesn't change his rules, they just follow a strict hunters code derived from nature and instinct. If an individual were to dedicate themselves to hunting werecreatures simply because they want to kill them, or prove they're better, then Hircine would act against them. However if someone became the prey of a werecreature but used wits and guile to flip the hunt and become the hunter, then Hircine would show great respect to the display of skill and instinct and would likely reward the survivor.

    With the companions I think over the years of them being a werewolf different people were able to control their transitions and the people who couldn't control it ended up dying. But over the years they got better at controlling it by themselves. Hircine isn't oblivious to who has lycanthropy and who doesn't, I think through the centuries he's seen that the companions are typically dedicated to the hunt and so he granted the gift of being able to control their transformations completely out of their own will.

    I feel like the term therianthrope would work best as a catch all term for lycanthropes because lycan usually refers to a human turning into a wolf due to the legend of Zues Lycaeus. Whereas therianthrope refers to the general concept of a human turning into an animal or human-animal hybrid. Maybe they could retcon the term into existence in ES6, plus introducing terms like the ones @Sine Nomine referred to would also work well to make this hypothetical retcon to the lore feel more authentic in its introduction.

    It feels like a missed opportunity that in the Dragonborn DLC you can't become a Werebear. Imagine wandering the Solsthime wilderness and bumping into three men in ragged trousers. At first they seem normal enough, but then they suddenly transform into large bipedal bears. You run for your life, but not before one scratches you, and the next time you look in your active effects, you notice something new...

    a slower transformation cycle for involuntary transformations, with maybe a partially changed stage with different social modifiers and responses from npcs would give your character a chance to try and get out of civilisation before they fully turn: this first stage (big teeth, red eyes, more hair) could have npc's only recognise you if you directly interact directly with them, agro dogs to you, and panic livestock.

    I like the idea of a lycanthropy system that has times where you are assured to transform and not transform, and some times where its not assured. so you get a bit of both. like, for example YOU WILL NOT transform while the moon is waining, but there is a chance that you might transform while its waxing or some time after the half moon. and when its the full moon you are guaranteed to transform.
    that way you can have times of assurance and times of uncertainty. or maybe something more regular. you might always transform on sundays, monday-friday you wont, but Saturday is up in the air.

      In Tamriel if I *HAD* to? I'd probably go Wolf or another Werebeast. Really, in the traditional sense it just takes preparation. If you only transform under the full moon, plan out the time and head into the woods on a camping trip or something. Unless its like Morrowind where you change every night, but by Skyrim's time, 4E201, that doesn't seem to be the case as even the Werewolf packs on Solstheim seem to have some level of control.
      Being a Vampire really only has immortality as its perk, and the game makes it clear through conversations with Vampires that the thirst is uncontrollable for lesser Vampires. As well as depending on what strain of Vampirism you get, you may never see the sun again unless you want a one way trip to Coldharbor for a date with Molag.
      If immortality is your play, learning how to extend your life through magic would probably be the best way. Take up with a Telvanni wizard, Neloth's been around for a long time, Divath fir for even longer. Some of the Telvanni Wizards claim to have been around from before even Tiber Septim's empire.

      True. I mean, Lycanthropy doesn't have to be TOO hard to get, but it should still be more impact full, you're right.
      Many of the Daedric Artifacts truly are too easy to get and not as powerful as they should be, I agree.

      @@thalmoragent9344 agreed man. Id also like to see the introduction of Aedric shrines and artifacts too. Definitely agreed, having those consequences or having to make those choices that would prohibit you from other Gods.

Like become a Daedric champion but Betray the prince and then you loose their favor and no longer can take up quests for him, BUT, that opens up for another one, this way you don't feel too restricted, even though I wouldn't mind if it was a more permanent choice. I did all of the guilds with him and completed all of the DLC’s, and he was completely vanilla, no mods at all. Even though I had hundreds of hours played before that character, that was the first character I made that I actually fully played Skyrim with. But, recently well I was clearing out saves to make room, I accidentally deleted him. I probably put a quarter of my 1,000 hours played into him alone. He was level 70. But, I did console command in the ebony warrior and fought him, and won, but it’s not the same as winning against him legitimately at 81. Rip Paston-one eyed, you will be missed.
