      I kinda wish bethesda would've kept the original Vamp eyes, before the Dawnguard expansion. Makes things more subtle as a Vampire. Then they could've made the bright eyes for stage 4 vampires and the whole town would attack you, like they did before the expansion. Vampire Lords like those of castle Valk could've had the eyes Sarana had, but with less glow to them, or only glowing in a darkened room/dungeon. Making Vampire Lords harder to spot.
      Then again, maybe that was the plan but it was too hard to implement without hella bugs.

    So this is how I rationalize being "stronger" when going without feeding for a while. I think it's more psychological than physical. A hungry vampire is more primal and vicious, while a vampire who is fed is satisfied and calm. I think vampires that choose to feed on animals are basically malnourished. They're fed, but the blood isn't the kind of blood they're supposed to digest.

      actually, vampires can feed on any warm-blooded animal and still be fine
      Is this the moment for me to admit that there was a time I loved being a bloodsucking creature of the night? It is not impossible to live only at night, merely occasionally inconvenient. And I wouldn't have to kill humans every night, merely warm-blooded creatures. Orcs have a delicious, rich brothy blood; rats are a little sweet for the only meal of the night; werewolves are a real treat, almost decadent the tincture between human and beast. A real gourmet's delight.

    The way I made peace with the story vs game-play of vampires drinking blood is that while starving yourself for a few days does make you stronger, eventually the hunger drives you insane. This is why Lord Lovidicus is a very strong vampire but he is also completely mad. Rona Hassildor has starved herself and goes into a coma, she is probably very strong, but without blood to balance her out, just being awake hurts her. Since vampires are undead they can't die of starvation, their bodies just adapt to become more efficient, but they are still suffering psychological effects of a starvation without ever being able to actually starve.

    Problem with vampirism in Skyrim is that the reason it's benefits are so minimal is cause its weaknesses are so small. You don't burn in the sun, you don't get attacked on sight, you don't get hunted down by vampire hunters.
    The weaknesses of Vampirism are every bit as key to being immersed as the strengths and Bethesda really didn't want to give us extremes.

      There is one type of the disease that makes you burn. There are 3 different types. The Lamae Bal originated and the one you get in eso is the one with almost zero effects on you but you get stronger at night. In the skyrim one sanguanire vampiris where you get stronger the longer you go without feeding and while the sun is annoying it does not hurt you. Oblivion one is the only disease type you'll get burn by the sun.

    I don't particularily dislike the "non-feeding makes you stronger" since I appreciate the lore that by not doing it brings you closer to Molag Bal and undeath, increasing your powers. It's also an interesting tradeoff gameplay-wise. The problem is that they should have added more mechanics and conditions when you're hungry, like increasingly blurred vision and other things to depict how becoming more hungry makes you more rabid and craving of blood, despite your added strength and abilities. The low vamps in Skyrim behave kind of like jankies with withdrawals. They should have emphasized on that.
    I mean, in Dawnguard, they even removed the Stage 4 feared status for retarded reasons....

    I think it's interesting how Michael views Werewolves vs. how he views Vampires.
    I see them as reflections of the same thing. They're both just shinning a light on the "beast" within, but they highlight different parts. The werewolves that we see are more beastial, but there's definitely a sense of enjoyment in the hunting and fighting, so I don't get when Michael says they have less of an element of "I find this fun". The only difference (in my opinion) is how they go about doing things. Vampires are more conspiratorial, charming, shadowy while werewolves are more... direct.

    • @lazilycatharticone4191
      @lazilycatharticone4191 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I look at it this way, Werewolves may find the "thrill of the hunt" fun, however they aren't usually sadistic in their hunts. Even Hircine is said to not attack you if you aren't willing to play the game (run or fight). While Vampires for the most part have a sadistic element to them.
      An other way to view it, a serial killer vs a crime of passion. Passion happens in the moment with no real "thought" place into it. That's more where the Werewolves are, instinctual. While a serial killer lurks, lies in wait, often has some of the most sick ways to torture and finally kill their victims. There's an element of power there, power over their victims. That's where the Vampires are.
      There's a reason that in the real world hunters usually have a code, clean or as clean a kill as possible. While serial killers often have some of the most horrifying ways to kill, the intent is to strike fear into their victims and potential victims. They also are said to often start with torturing animals, so there's that too.
      Thus isn't to say that Werewolves are "good" but at the end of the day if you had to choose, would you want a Telbooth/Wetfang vampire death? Or to be torn to pieces by a Werewolf much like a Bear mauling that's usually quick? (Both do suck tho).

  • @edim108

    Honestly being a Volkihar type vampire that still can walk in the sun (it's annoying like a rash but not harmful beyond that) would be a sweet deal.
    You're immortal, you get some really neat powers (going by lore descriptions not gameplay) and still can function normally during the day. And you can turn your close ones into vampires if you fear lack of company + traveling Tamriel is a lot safer as a spooky Vampire than just a regular mortal man.
    Think how much better the Elves are at certain things bc they live for centuries and then think how good you might become with functionally no time limit.

Like if the werewolf/vampire becomes depraved in their feedings(feed I need on random innocents) or just outright not eating people their berserk state would activate. Also another interesting addition would be giving more powerful werewolves and vampires the ability to have more control during their berserk state

    My answer to your alls Conundrum over the animal blood drinkers getting weaker in eso is this:
    Drinking blood does make both types weaker and more human appearing, but then when they don't drink blood for the buffs they don't achieve the same level of strength they did when they had a human blood diet.
    This way the blood does affect how strong they get but also helps them maintain a human appearance.
    Furthermore, I thinknit makes sense that going a few days without blood will make them stronger, but if they straight up get blood starved for a very long period of time they could die or go feral. It's simple enough to consolidate gameplay with lore.

  • @Elydir
    @Elydir 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the Vampires becoming stronger the longer they go without blood is basically their body's answer to starvation. They become more feral and animalistic to become a better hunter, and increase their chance of feeding on someone. However, there's a limit to this, as evidenced by Count Hassildor's wife who fell into coma, or the Grey Prince's dad who became insane from starvation.
    So yes, starving will make you more powerful for the purpose of you obtaining food, but if you continue to starve it will eventually have consequences.

    I guess the idea with the no blood / animal blood thing is that it's a bit of "you are what you eat." Vampires lacking in blood grow closer to the divine power that created them, but their physical bodies still hunger for mortal needs, since they aren't truly immortal. But by ingesting human blood, they satisfy their hunger but draw themselves back down to the level of a human. By ingesting animal blood, they satisfy their hunger but draw themselves down to the level of a beast. So vampires in their most powerful state would be a being that takes in nothing of the mortal realm, but that isn't possible since by their nature, they're still cursed mortal vessels.

    Given the different strains, I'd assumed that the idea of Lamae Bal as the progenitor of all vampires is unlikely. Especially considering that when met, she seems to be involved in turning the members carrying her strain personally.
    What I figured was that the different strains all trace to a different progenitor who received vampirism directly from Molag Bal, though under different circumstances and Harkon's comments on common vampirism seem to imply that this is what happens when the bloodlines are diluted. The closer a vampire is to their original creator, the stronger their vampirism, which would lead back nicely to why Lamae Bal seemed to be personally involved in turning new members of her coven; as they received the gift directly from her, it would not be diluted.
    Still, I basically never play Skyrim without Better Vampires installed. It adds significant physical buffs and blood magic spells to the player, while enforcing strong downsides as well, all of which can be tweaked to the players liking, including when the character is recognised as a vampire by NPCs, whether they take sun damage or not, whether or not their resources can regenerate at daytime, whether Vampire Hunters will hunt you and how strong they are and many more features.
    It's hands down my favorite Skyrim mod, if I could only choose one mod to play with it would be this one.

    YES! The one I've been waiting for! Just don't do the Werewolf/lycanthrope episode *too* soon, or else I'll have less to look forward to :p

    I always seen vampires becoming stronger when not fed that they are starving and are desperate for the next meal. Much like staving people unlock powers of desperation.
