  • DATING ANTIQUE COKE BOTTLES | HOW TO TELL THE AGE OF COCA COLA BOTTLES
    Quick tutorial on how to date antique coke bottles. There are so many bottle variations it can be difficult to tell the age or value of a bottle. After many years of bottle digging and collecting antique bottles I figured it was time to share a bit of what I have learned.

      I've not seen any information on : clear glass, straight sided, RIBBED, Coke bottles. I've seen a few variants on line listed as : antique, rare, and valuable, but, with no specific details. Do you have info on these ? Thanks !

    Years ago I worked for Coke in rural Australia. All of our bottles were made by Australian Glass Manufacturers Ltd in Adelaide, South Australia. We were trained (read brainwashed) every Friday morning on the Coke Company and its history. I recall that the marketing thinking behind what you call the Hobble Skirt (?) shaped bottle is that Coke's object was that if you were in a dark room anywhere in the world and were handed a Coke bottle you would instantly recognise what it was. So the bottle shape patent was closely gaurded by Coke and was the subject of much litigation in the USA by other drink companies wanting to poach the shape. We were also told the colour was patented and is called "Georgia Green". Cobalt and other elements are added to a white glass mix to get Georgia Green and our glass makers often had trouble at the start of a Coke run getting the colour right. And so we could get some blue coke bottles one of which i rescued from the cullet pile. I really enjoy your videos so keep up the good work. I have to say that i am really alarmed at the amount of rubbish in your creeks and that it seems that it is being added to by the current generation (?)

    Regarding dating Pat D bottles you have to use the 2nd number for the year if there was an L instead of a dash. Laurens glass company placed the year 2nd. Example I have a Pat D with a code of 15L42.

    I have about 15 vintage green coke bottles that have flat bottoms. I looked at the numbers, as explained here, and about half have single digits. I found on two sites, that the heart in a circle, on the side, actually is a V and an M. It stood for Vidriera Monterrey, of Monterrey, Mexico. My question is, how do you tell the age of the single digit? These are still the same recyclable 6.5 oz green bottles.

    Hi, not sure if you still check msgs here but I have a question. I just acquired a case of older bottles. Watched this helpful video. 1 of the bottles I'm not sure of the date. PAT D 1929 all it has is a number 4 on the curve. ALSO it doesn't have just a dash between the two numbers it has a symbol that looks kind of like a spaceship for lack of a word/visual. Any thoughts?

  • @peteloomis8456
    @peteloomis8456 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok I found one like the very last bottle you show but the numbers on it are 18 & 41 with a strange mark between these numbers that look like a welding helmet in ways so do you have a idea on what year & who made it because I looked for the symbols used by the different glass makers for coke and I didn't see anything that looked similar . There are no numbers on the heel at all other than what I found on the skirt but it does say Hudson Wisconsin on the very bottom . I was out walking on my property & found it laying next to a rock wall & barbed wire fence that separates my property from the old farm that's still their but it was on my side which I do know at one time my place used to be a farm as well but the barn is long gone along with the horse stable .

The Coke bottles always had the name of the city it was from...As a kid,we used to go along the roadside and sell them back to the store for the 1 cent deposit.. Back during those times,a penny was good for a candy bar! Not the Hershey's chocolate bar... Those cost a nickel! If you had a dollar, you were rich😂!!!! I don't believe
    that you're gonna buy anything for a penny these days....A Hershey's chocolate bar will run you about a dollar.... Time flies....

    Here in Hawaii Coke was first bottled by Robert Rycroft in 1907. Unmarked 1915s are said to be found in Wahiawa and on Maui. Our Christmas and later are marked towns and islands. No one is sure what the 1907-15s were. Regular Rycrofts? Wasn't Coke fussy about using specially marked bottles. A Ryctoft with a paper label is OK?

    I have a straight sided, ribbed Coke bottle. On the side (in print, no script it says: property of Coca- Cola bottling co. Min cont. 7 FL OZ
    On the lower side it says: design patent pending
    It does not look like any of these bottles. I have found a few similar online but the dating is all over the place. Any chance you happen to know what I have?

    I found a hobble skirt that has no date codes except "04". No -, no other letters or numbers, just 04. That seems before the hobbleskirt was "official" by a decade, but 2004 it would have been printed with additional code data I think. This one has me stumped.

    Thank you! Just dated my straight side with your help! It's the newer one. It's semi unique in that it is just as purple as it can be! Beautiful! It's my understanding that the manganese in the glass oxidizes when exposed to sunlight. This oxidation turns the glass a sort of deep amethyst color. Found it in an old farm house dump in Georgia. Score!!! Subscribed and rang that bell!

    I have a 1928 hobble then, ( just found it in a demo job ) ..it has no patent date under the logo, but does have a date code on the side that says 28. Kalamazoo Michigan embossed on the bottom... What's it worth?.. no cracks or chips, letting it soak in hot water to loosen a bit of dirt on the inside presently..

    I got a question. I literally just found a coke bottle at a job site in the ground. It looks like a hobble skirt. Says trademark registered in us patent office. Its a 12 oz bottle. The bottom of the bottle has a shield and anchor logo, and the numbers in order are 5 57 33. Can you help me date this

  • @williamlavagna1096
    @williamlavagna1096 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mine only has 'Trade Mark Registered' underneath the Coca Cola logo. Only 1 line of text.
    Maybe it's because I'm in England so i assume our bottles varied?

    it is very interesting that in USA the crown seals were used so early. here in Australia-crown seals didn't really appear until after about 1915. Average 1920's. So when you are getting crown seals here in Australia-you know your 1918-1930. Usually all blob tops before that here.

    I have a short, straight sided, green glass bottle that has Coca cola on the middle in regular, not cursive letters. Along the bottom it says Zanesville Ohio as well as on the bottom along with Coca cola co. and a c with a circle around it with the number 1 below it. I was wondering if you could give me a ball park age???

    Thanks. I found out that I have a 1963 bottle from your video. I restored a early 50s Cavalier Coke Machine C-51 for my house last winter. I get the 6 oz bottles at Walmart for like $4.68 for 6 & sell them in my machine for 5 cents.

    I have a coca cola bottle that seems to be old but it doesn't have any dates on the side, I don't know for sure though because some of the writing is a bit faded and it's hard to tell. One thing it has on the bottom is "l A G 55" on the bottom, I don't know if that means anything but it might help to tell the date.
