Really good run, but I particularly want to praise Mithical9's commentary, which was polished, informative, and most of all, entertaining. Even Krankdud couldn't help but laugh along. There was very little dead air, and I liked the way he knew when to ask for donations to be read out instead of relying on the host's prompts. It can't be easy being the sole commentator - aside from the runner, whose comments contributed a lot as well - but he did a great job!
Agreed, within the first few minutes I could tell this would be a pleasant one.
I agree. He also does a good job explaining the game for newcomers.
There are few things as underappreciated in a GDQ run than a really excellent co-commentator, it's one of those little things that can really take a run from impressive to entertaining
A little dead air is preferable.. some time to think is good for people.. some tension to pull people back in and appreciate commentary flavor

World records at GDQ are the best things.
I've always loved how round 2 of the bosses is the epic generals of Neo Arcadia...and Burble Heckelot.

And funnily enough, Burble Heckelot is the most dangerous of them all.
And what makes it even better is that the frog is the hardest of them all.
Having to make plans for dealing with Zero would be awful. He just flies through defences and tears his foes apart in seconds.

Shout out to to the commentary by Mithical9. It's great to have context given to a game that I'm completely unfamiliar with, and there seems to be a great upswing over hte last couple years of reliably providing good commentary in the midst of the run.
You never played Megaman Zero? Sucks to be you.
I'm glad Mithical9 mentioned the Japanese voice clips in this game, it's something I like a lot and think adds a lot of charm to this game. Agreed on Phoenix's voice being one of the best of the bunch too.

The run, the commentary, the yell, the music. Amazing!
All of the Guardian levels were godlike, pretty well optimised if you ask me. Really surprised at the Leviathan and Fefnir levels. The commentary for this game was spot on, props to both runners, nice to see mutual appreciation form the commentary to the fellow runner. Overall one of my favorite runs so far. The trick at 43:00 was massive. Also, can't remember the last time we got a WR on GDQ.
Kick-ass runner, god tier commentary
This is my favorite speedrun of this game for so many reasons.
The run itself is amazing and very close to the world record.
The skips were preformed amazingly.

The Phoenix kicked my ass so many times and always giving me the bad pattern that I learned how to dodge the fire coming upwards from the ground lmao

Easily the best run of the marathon. WR, incredible couch commentary, great execution throughout, and never a dull moment.
Great run, one of the best of the whole marathon. The megaman zero games are quite underrated, they are honestly solid games if you like MMX series, but still not a lot of people play them.

Have loved watching Megaman Zero runs what seems like every event so far the past couple years but I think this one is the best I've watched yet! Incredibly skilled runner and fantastic commentary to go with it. Well done guys!
Tbh at first I was a bit sad this was done on hard because I would not have been able to see sick boss Instakills and the other cool tech runners do. HOWEVER THIS RUN WAS A VERY ENJOYABLE WATCH!

Eh, I care more about keeping the Saber bisecting myself. Way more satisfying to slash a boss to death and watch it eek out its last words while cut in half.

This is unreal. I just beat MMZ2, and while it is an incredible game that I adore, it can be very, very difficult. If you've never played the Zero games, idk if you can fully appreciate the level of precision, skill and knowledge on display here. I feel like his brain has to be working at 500% a normal human brain to be executing this many movements and techniques so quickly and flawlessly. Also, amazing commentary. Some of the best I've heard.
But mmz2 actually hardest games unlike mmz3 and mmz4

I love when speedrunners screw around during parts where they just have to wait for something. Make it 10x more enjoyable.
When I played this, I could swear that Pheonix was saying Bueno.
Then he killed me, again, and again, and again...
lol yeah. he actually says 'moero' or however that is spelled which something like 'burn' in japanese.
as for phoenix he just has a pattern to get used to. the guy waits for your first attack and teleports. when reappears hit him again to damage and flinch him. if you have the thunder chip it helps. also pay attention to when the ground starts to shake and dont attack till the flame pillars finish rising up.
He's like Cyber Peacock combined with Blaze Heatnix

How do u start off with the black suit?
It is automatically unlocked in Hard Mode.
I think you also unlock it by beating the game and can use it in NG+, but I am not sure.
This game was an ordeal and a half too 100%
Kinda crazy to think the GBA didn't have a sound chip, which is why so many songs sounds improvised, the cpu handles all the audio lmfao

The main timeline essentially goes
Classic -> X -> Zero -> ZX -> Legends
Zero has no inherent nods to Legends though, so make of it what you will

He's using ProtoForm, which is mentioned at the start as having non-charging weapons (minus shield), taking double damage, and doing an extra point of damage for every attack. ProtoForm possibly a reference to the false Black Zero that Sigma builds in Megaman X2.

This game looks like it would be awesome if not for all those obnoxious cutscenes with so much skip dialogue. Whose idea was it to begin to put that in Megaman games? They should be optional to remove entirely in options to free the player from the endless skipping.
The dialogue is unskippable on the first runs of the Megaman Zero games (besides MMZ1 and the first runs of hard mode in each game I believe) so that the player can experience the story. After you beat the game once you can skip the cutscenes completely whenever they are prompted in New Game Plus. It's a fair trade-off, IMO, since the story is actually quite solid in comparison to the previous games that were cut and dry "good guy defeats bad guy" stories, with some cool twists or revelations.
