Smoque 1 is the most useful of them all! I've been using it for a while on multiple projects, not to completely replace real fog machines, but rather to enhance a scene. I strongly disagree with your assumption that the 1 density is useless. In my experience, the density 1 is the most useful of them, precisely because it is more subtle, and enables you to get sharp images when you want to, and more of an effect when you introduce light that directly hits the filter, which empowers you to control the image and the amount of the effect in the shot.
It depends on the conditions and light. For night photos, e.g. with traffic lights, power 1 is enough. However, at noon, with strong sunlight, I would use power 2 or 3. There is no perfect solution. Writing that 1 is the best option is a mistake. Filmmakers usually write this way because they want a filter-like effect, but the projects they create are commercial and the client does not want such an effect. That's why filmmakers add this effect delicately. I think it all depends on the project. For me, 1/4 or 1/8 pro mist is too small an effect to be visible. Let's not be afraid to test and combine filters
It could be that the blue tint comes from your color grade. You have, obviously, put some blue/teal in your shadows. The smoke filter raises the black levels to a point where your coloring hits the shadows and turns them blue.
Hi, I wanted to thank you for your nice videos and especially this one: I was thinking about getting one of these smoque filters from Tiffen and your video helped me make up my mind. Vielen Dank aus Nord Italien.
Richtig nice Kanalidee! Direkt abonniert.
Not anytime soon unfortunately unless Tiffen or someone else sends them to me. Can't find them anywhere here in Germany and shipping from somewhere else just costs way to much.
I have subscribed because I like that filter work. Are you from Germany? I ask because I am. OK, hat sich erledigt, du sagst es im Video 😂 hab geschrieben während das Video noch lief. Hau rein
Have you tried this filter stacked with like a pro-mist or other diffusion filter on top to scatter the light a bit before hitting the light-spreading effect of the smoque? I don't know how well stacking these filters works for video. I pretty much only use these for photos.
You sort of can but it kinda defeats the purpose. Keep in mind that I love the teal and orange look quite a lot so the blue cast isn't as extreme as it looked in some of these shots and more because of the color grade. It's more of a really slight greyish, blueish tint that just sorta happens when using this filter in normal daylight since the contrast also gets lifted quite a bit depending on the density.
@@heroaomedia I don't know. Really depends on your personal taste and what you want to do with it. I tested up to the BDFX 2 wich was still a fairly subtle effect so I'm guessing FX4 could still be fine.
1. Are you shooting with the 1/2 black pro mist in this video? And, 2. What camera would you recommend for someone who does not want to have to fix any thing in post editing? I want the soft skin effect. Thank you

spot on
Agreed, both 2 and 3 seem to be a bit too much…
yes i went with the 1 for your exact reasoning. less is more

It had been a while since I saw a straight up, honest filmmaking video. Hoping for more of these!
The horses in the snow, perfect moments!
Incredible comparison video, thank you so much!
Very cinematic and analog feel! And the music is beautiful ❤️
Thanks for showing these, I have been wondering how they look.
been waiting for your kind of channel for a loooong time!!!!!!

great video comparison! What would you think if I stack Smoque 2 and BPM 1/4 ?

When ya gonna review the Pearlescent filters? Love them for night photography.

Haven't tried that yet but I really should. The Smoque just seems perfect for combining it with other filters now that I think about it.
Useful info, thanks.
Keep going Mr Bishop ;) nice Vid
Have you tried smoque 4?
hey filter boy, loving the channel! maybe you could use like a Smoque 2 + Smoque 1/2 to get the strength you are looking for :-)
Thank you!
So many announced "cinematic" filters, it is impossible to make a choice now.
Really enjoying your channel. Have you tried undoing the blue cast on this?

@@filterboy8750 Thank you! That's great to know. If I come across anything interesting I'll let you know!

Smouqe1 or 2?
