Playing Ice Spear totems and they are amazing for the mechanic. Superhigh dmg, continue to shoot while you channel, and they alert you when someone is coming towards you while channeling. Great video. Learned a thing or two.
I bought the Titanic Shell once and it has a skill that makes it not get stun if attacked while channeling totem, so you can build a tactic around it like I did, but its rare that you get that much favor anyway but there is that

And in regards of unit+gear combo, the ice wave unit (tidecaller?) with the 4 added projectile makes a volley tidal wave, good for pushing their entire team and walls backwards
The issue is with the trails is when you hit a brick wall in balance it will be a brick wall you cant get over. You can have max res, max block, max every defence in the game you will get one shot out of no where. With AI bugs and massive cheese needed to win. It becomes more and more exhausting to play.
Yeah, I'm honestly disappointed this is the league mechanic. It feels like I'm playing standard because I refuse to play Ancestors. Have a kinetic blast build that melts yellow maps but at rank 150 in ancestors, I barely can dent the enemies.
Yea I'm having great luck with a cc freeze totem build. I can use my totems to stay behind and help with Def and moving just far enough to channel a totem.for .0000001 seconds, just long enough to trigger aggro. Finding more and more ways to cheese the enemy Ai since they are simply op af
Same for me the mechanic is getting stale. some enemy units feel more powerful than endgame bosses but not in a fun way (the turtle for obvious reasons and also the moon dancer which takes forever to kill on my cold dot ele for some reason) and with how you're basically forced to always take the match that will yield the highest favor instead of choosing based on reward you end up having to gamble that your final match will have something good. The tattoos are nice and are the only part of the league I would love to see go core.
Very helpful. I would have the sunset sage in the highest tier as a flanker. it can channel right past the walls your fieldmasters put up, and it can kill off death's guide's totem without wasting time having to kill the unit, which is nice for clearspeed. I don't think I've lost with fieldmaster + sunset sage set up on both flanks. I take it over the thunderbird if I have the option, since I find they do about equally well at everything else anyways.
Thanks, it helped me a lot ! I struggled hard even at low rating, i guess that's what I deserve for trying to have fun and playing a melee physical build !
I wasn't aware of how effective backdooring in this mode is. Saving me A TON of time now. I would have been interested in a breakdown on every unit though.
grimro : flankers WILL constantly rush for toem ignoring EVERYHTING else 10% guarented super duper good ! my flankers : dancing in circle doing nothing and when rushing base ignoring totems even if you distract all the enemies...
In case no one mentioned this, Frost wall doesn't work here, most of the time. It collapses around totems and enemies, but it can still push them around. So it can, for example, explode a firebreather or stop a channel.
i really hope they add some ranking lock mechanic and let me adjust my elo rank downwards. i dont want to reach a point with my build where my games take hours because my dmg isnt enough anymore and its not worth it for me to engage with the mechanic. Just like in Delv where i ccan just go Horizontal when i reach an appropriate difficulty level for myself.
I feel like Titanic shell is really strong put him on a flanking position he will slowly kill all of the totems but it's a guaranteed win just takes a couple minutes. He is over powered because he will not get stunned while he is channeling
hes strong sure, but like grim said, for 2300 he's not worth it. because you could trade him for 1150 favor. which is almost enough to buy two fieldmasters which will do essentially the same thing at half the time.
@@Dari300ra Titanic shell is very good if you're doing long tournaments because you're often gonna have enough favor in the later rounds when your entire board is filled up with units anyways, but it's not a unit you should brute force.
hes just not worth focusing on. i mean sure if you randomly get enough favor for him then cool. but odds are if you're getting enough favor for him, you're doing something wrong. Once you have all the fieldmasters you want/need you should be transferring the favor to get other good units and if you already have all the units you need/want. you should be gearing them not replacing them@@Failzz8
Any sort of combination that lets you lay down Ensnaring Arrow, along with a Temporal Chains on Hit effect, will quickly slow mobs to a crawl. I use manaforged arrows with chain support
06:49 "Tidecaller is a specialized defender ... if you have any units like that, put them where they belong" Where are you seeing this? The UI tooltip doesn't mention this. Or are you just assuming the ability, tidal wave, is good for defending?
cheeeers as always grim. honestly you could say your amazing strats and guides a plenty, but hoenstly it still ends up[ being such a frustrating mechanic for me cause i cant kill enemys even at rating 140..... not to mention that im sick and tired of 5 second perma character lockout every time im love tapped while trying to channel a totem OR MISCLICKING THME. i get that itll be a good money league now, and i love that it exists and i cant wait for everyone to enjoy tattooos this league, but unless some other balance efforts are done i dont know if ill ever be willing to learn because every lost battle feels like ultimatum failures with extra, painfully slow, zdps, z$ps gameplay :(
I rerolled into 0dps 0hp CI with slowing action speed (creeping frost gmp curse on hit temp chain), with temporal bubble spectres. Also, had no luck with frost wall or conversion trap, and mathed out a stun potential for 48kdmg vs 1/25hp. Didn't try stun yet, though
The other thing about Firebreather is units take longer to respawn the more times they're killed. Even though they can scale pretty hard with Umu's unique (+10 seconds to revive time of killed enemies, all damage ignite, always ignite) or the 500% life as fire damage explode on death unique, it's still not worth it cause even if it does kill some units, it's self-nuke will rapidly ramp its respawn time into the stratosphere.
Can confirm, minion builds with permanent minions and knockback support are broken for this league mechanic. B-line start channeling defensive totems to draw aggro making room for your flankers. Then either assist flankers by dashing to them or solo backline totems if your flankers draw aggro.
The thing is this mode is a huge waste of time for the friend as 70% of the time they got no rewards and when they god one it is usually trash. But yes with another player it is a breeze.
I'm so glad my fieldmaster strategy is validated here, I have been just stacking free wins with Fieldmasters they're so unbelievably OP in flanker. Their stats aren't amazing or anything but the enemy AI just completely fails to navigate the fieldmaster walls and you can just auto win games sometimes
zoomancer is clunky, minions tend to stop attacking when you have to move which with so many oneshot mechanics you have to do a LOT SRS though ... blink in, drop one cast of Unleashed SRS and blink away, safe interruption that doesnt stop attacking because you had to move two screens over to cap/deffend a totem
Playing a minion build is basically screaming “I’m so bad at the game I need A.I. to play it for me.” I bet most minion players couldn’t even make it through the campaign if they were forced to play a non meta skill.
@tommylongschlong3646 dude if that's how they enjoy playing, whether it's because that suck, are disabled, or even if they just enjoy the theme of being a necromancer, who are you to insult them for their preference like that? Stop being a weirdo elitist gamer. Especially in an arpg 😂 it's not league of legends or pvp based game anyway.
When started doing the mechanic I liked it because it was fun and an easy way to get currency but now I've soured on it. The AI players can buy whatever units they want while I have to hope that there's a match that rewards the currency I need. Also, I play an RF Jugg and some units have some kind of regen nullifying field that causes me to lose life. Why isn't that in the mob description? I'm at rank 119. If it's this hard now what will it be like at rank 1000. From now on I'm just going to focus on farming currency and not worry about the tournaments. Oh, and another thing, flask charges don't refill fast enough.
Some VERY OP item + character combos that will win you games Caldera Ravager + Sun Blot band ( +4 Proj ) Jade Shaman + Firebreather mead ( RF ) and ofc the best Fieldmaster + CDR item
Currently I am leveling a ice spear totem hierophant. Should be able to kill most units easily and futthermore doesnt need to bother about using the skill yourself. Just place like 8 totems and watch everythign being killen instantly.
@@killuahsmathetricks389not sure your gear lvl etc but even at rank 300 it’s very easy to get 1 shot by so much. Freezing pulse seems more effective on defense than ice spear. Sometimes the opposition is going after your ancestral totems 3-4 at the same time and freezing pulse just massively destroys ice spears for interupts. Also it feels our build is beyond squishy so unless your like 20-30 divine deep there are better options.
@@choocharoo yeah, noticed that with freezing Pulse already. But it works wonders. At least for me. With the starts grim stated here the last few rounds at abput 500 Ranking were a breeze
@@killuahsmathetricks389ya it works . I just find myself playing defense all the time and only diving after we have the advantage. Like I’ll try dump my totems in the middle to get attn and dive the back line to get theirs. Usually that leads to getting hit or the other team takes out our totems. My wife was watching me kite and drop totems just trying not to die. Her comment, that looks cheesey lol
Hard disagree on the Titanic Shell (at least at the point that I'm at around rank 800) it cannot be interrupted when channeling on totems and has a metric ass ton of life. putting it in a flanker position makes it just a matter of time before you win as the enemy team simply cannot stop it. (same goes for if it's against you though so there's that....)
My man this video is really nice! I got up to 650-700 by my own, but i did it kinda by accident, but after this one and that awesome spreadsheet i feel like i can go to 2k no problem. Really great work! Only thing to notice would be a comment about the Navali units - i know they are bad, but which of the 3 sucks the most, where could i put em if i cant yet replace them etc. Also maybe a quick word towards great items would be also neat, i usually tend to grab some items in the last two rounds if i wont replace stuff or the favour left is not enough to get another unit in. And again - that spreadsheet is just superb!
Slight clarification: it can be cast in the middle of the battlefield or on the extreme edges, but within certain proximity of totems or even potential totem locations, they will instantly despawn. They do still move the enemy units slightly, which can provide a small guaranteed interrupt with good positioning.
I got to 600 just basically randomnly placing shit on the board lol. I’m playing poison SRS. Thanks for all the tips on positions to put everybody. I also agree on the thunderbird, my favorite unit. Win everytime I can get 1-2 of them
One enemy you didnt mention is tahuatara(or something like that) the big bonks guy. He has insane AoE and if he touches you, youre dead. He also has some units that one shot you if they normal attack you, yes, theyre overtuned af. Maybe you didnt notice them because you have 300% movement speed but for the rest of us normal people this guy is a nightmare and needs an urgent nerf.
Yeah he’s definitely deadly and reddits nemesis lol. But his strats don’t involve him standing in his own base so the boss is always in his base or fighting other attackers/defenders. I think he didn’t mention it because it doesn’t effect you at all if you go to the bottom or back as much
For the support role, i highly recommend to use a team of sunset sage. They can destroy totems from distance. They obliterate the deaths guide totem and other.
I tried frost wall already yesterday and it doesn't work. The walls instantly auto despawn in a huge radius near totems so they end up just slightly moving the enemies and then they're gone. I also tried to spam them by linking frost wall to spell totem support and the issue is they only have three charges and then stop casting.
Awesome video, this is extremely helpful!! Only thing I have trouble with is matching the 'vendor' with the tribe, but I just made a quick cheat sheet for that. :) Can someone smarter than me explain the kill/survive chart at the top of the spreadsheet? Is it just describing your overall strategy which is to 'base race'/kill or just try to be cautious and survive?
caldera ravager is insane with +4 projectile item he's NUTS with that thing, even navali scrap is pretty good on defense with that item I feel like. Also sunset sage is nice as well with it's ranged channeling on totems
Thanks for the video and the spreadsheet, awesome work! I wonder if there's really a viable tank build, as the enemy units are capable of decimating even my 900k EHP spectres in mere seconds (the RF enemy is particularly nasty). It's currently the only mechanic where I have to make sure not to have my AG around, so far I couldn't find a working defense against enemies in higher rankings (and I'm only at 1000).
im doing the mechanic with hexblast miner, just got to 150 suppress and swapped it to dodge+got a ton of evasion, hexblast mines can be thrown to the edge of your screen and have a search radius to detonate on top of that so its pretty easy imo, not as good as tshot for coverage, but your hits are a lot bigger so you get more consistent interrupts on enemies too
I just started the mechanic with hexblast and just got steam rolled at 250. On the first battle. Twice. Ouch. I definitely need more evasion and a little more suppression I don't know how to swap it to dodge
Hii, super useful vdo, i have one question, which build u think is the best for this league mechanic? I wanna have the best build for this auto chess league and spend whole day and night in it.
it's good stretegy but it also confirm that if i want to have a good time this league i need to make another bow build. in this video he shot a few tornado shot which take like half second to get the same result of me runing back to my base and thrown trap to disrupt enemy from channel my team totem. which take 4-5 second for me. that time is enough for more enemy to spawn....
If you play melee and you think you tanky enough, only arch-enemy here are Kahuturoa and his Goliath of Night. They will one shot you no matter how tanky you are even you have 150K ehp(nerf already? for real, still got one shot anyway). I play Jugg, I only have problem with those guy ,while pretty much immortal against other tribes.
Grimro, not sure if you explained and I missed it, but what are those columns of rare and unique tattoos in the spreadsheet that have a position associated with ?
Hello. I really like the mechanics, I also use the table. But I can ask you exactly what build you are playing so that I can build something similar. Thanks
I really hope this stays in the game. I think it will because it's very rich, not too complex, it's doesn't interrupt your gamelplay and tattoo are simply great.
Flanker is offense. Flanker and attacker are offensive positions, defense and escort are more defensive. The reward rank is about the tribe leader, not the unit
actually the best way to eliminate harder masters early on is to fight them early to lower their odds of getting to the finals. chances are theyll end up getting knocked off the tournament if you atleast beat then once. easy enemy would be kaom but can get really scary tanky end game. the friendly masked guy is also lowkey strong and will one or two shot you real quick, if he gets closed to you so try to get in melee range when fighting him, oldman maata is also a darkhorse, his strat is flank rushing your base and I found that the best approach to him is to heavily defend against his flankers at first then turn the tide when his team dies. as for rakiata i found her easy as my playstyle is more of a passive methodical approach and didnt really rush her base, but like grim said base rushing her is big no no
If you get titanic shell and you put him as a flanker it's basically an auto-win every time, the enemy can almost never kill him. Putting him as a trash-tier unit on the sheet seems kinda weird?
wow a really GOD video, thanks bro. PD: any tips againts kuhutura? that man on late sucks. Always 1shot me and has titanic shell . Its a big trouble kuhutura
Thx for the great vid! Just 1 question. If the spearfishers are good because of the big slow they apply. Don't they only apply that slow from a defenders position when a unit starts attacking our totem? In which case that unit isnt moving anyways cause its channeling. Or is it still good to have them as defense regardless of that?
From what I have noticed the slow is effective at hindering the enemy unique and their escorts which are the main source of your defenders and attackers dying
I feel like Frenzymonger is useful as an attacker, because it imposes a -10% damage done/healing +10% damage taken debuff on the entire enemy party per death. Pretty useful, but not a 'Go stack 4' useful.
Thanks, great video, though I still have a question. What does Ramako Speardancer's different positions mean? Why does it have Flanker as Common Reward Rank and why does it have Attacker at Rare Tattoo Reward or Rare Unique Reward? What does that mean, different positions for the finals, basically? And what are the color schemes there? Really doesn't add up for me.

Very very cool indeed. I haven't done the league mechanic much so far this league, might give it a try today though. Thanks for the vid grim.
I struggled hard even at low rating, i guess that's what I deserve for trying to have fun and playing a melee physical build !
every minute packed with great info, keep up the awesome work!
Best video ever :)
Works really well, thanks for all the great tips, my man.
Thanks, these information definitely increase my win rate dramatically
Any sort of combination that lets you lay down Ensnaring Arrow, along with a Temporal Chains on Hit effect, will quickly slow mobs to a crawl. I use manaforged arrows with chain support
Thanks Grim. Been waiting for this :D
Dude, Titanic Shell as flanker is absolutely insane.
instant win imho.
Thats what i came here to say, as a defender its not great but a flanker he is absolutely insane. he just channels totems like crazy
Always such amazing videos. Informative during the league and hyping us up when others are being negative pre-patch and in the early days
Thank you very much for those explanations. Incredible diagram!
06:49 "Tidecaller is a specialized defender ... if you have any units like that, put them where they belong" Where are you seeing this? The UI tooltip doesn't mention this. Or are you just assuming the ability, tidal wave, is good for defending?
I tested every unit to see which role they are best in, you can check the spreadsheet for some info on that.
this helps so much thanks man
I didn't even start the league mechanic until getting the Grimro spreadsheet, no point really. thanks again dude!
cheeeers as always grim. honestly you could say your amazing strats and guides a plenty, but hoenstly it still ends up[ being such a frustrating mechanic for me cause i cant kill enemys even at rating 140..... not to mention that im sick and tired of 5 second perma character lockout every time im love tapped while trying to channel a totem OR MISCLICKING THME. i get that itll be a good money league now, and i love that it exists and i cant wait for everyone to enjoy tattooos this league, but unless some other balance efforts are done i dont know if ill ever be willing to learn because every lost battle feels like ultimatum failures with extra, painfully slow, zdps, z$ps gameplay :(
you just saved the league for me. thanks man
I rerolled into 0dps 0hp CI with slowing action speed (creeping frost gmp curse on hit temp chain), with temporal bubble spectres. Also, had no luck with frost wall or conversion trap, and mathed out a stun potential for 48kdmg vs 1/25hp. Didn't try stun yet, though
Never knew you could sell the items. Damn that changes everything. Lol. This is awesome. Thanks Grim
Thanks for your time and imput its always appreciated
Fantastic info. Thanks for the video.
Missing the streams this league but happy we still get some youtube vids!
Nice Info , helps alot 👌 Like Always top video
Last night I was thinking, I really need a guide from Grim for this and bingo! Thanks Grim! Champion!
Really nice guide! Appreciate this..
Thank you Grimro for this.Great video.
You are a lifesaver bro tyvm for the info.
I just got connections and +1 projectile tattoo from 1 round. Thanks for the strats just completed my build
Can confirm, minion builds with permanent minions and knockback support are broken for this league mechanic.
B-line start channeling defensive totems to draw aggro making room for your flankers.
Then either assist flankers by dashing to them or solo backline totems if your flankers draw aggro.
Thanks for the breakdown!
if u can play w/ a friend, DO IT.
one(tanky) do defence, n other(fast&dps) do offence.
this gonna make the match so ez n fast.
The thing is this mode is a huge waste of time for the friend as 70% of the time they got no rewards and when they god one it is usually trash. But yes with another player it is a breeze.
Thanks for the great guide!
I've noticed that sometimes they break their own ai by building a wall in front of themselves
I thought Flankers ignored enemies. Does he still pop walls?
@@djones1609 He does
@@djones1609 Yes!
Thanks Grimro, very useful video that I needed.
Thank you for the video, very useful information
Tbh minion builds like zoomancer is top tier for this mechanics. Good for defense good for dmg.
did u test it urself? at what rank?
zoomancer is clunky, minions tend to stop attacking when you have to move which with so many oneshot mechanics you have to do a LOT
SRS though ... blink in, drop one cast of Unleashed SRS and blink away, safe interruption that doesnt stop attacking because you had to move two screens over to cap/deffend a totem
You cant be that delusional to belive that xd@@tommylongschlong3646
When started doing the mechanic I liked it because it was fun and an easy way to get currency but now I've soured on it. The AI players can buy whatever units they want while I have to hope that there's a match that rewards the currency I need. Also, I play an RF Jugg and some units have some kind of regen nullifying field that causes me to lose life. Why isn't that in the mob description? I'm at rank 119. If it's this hard now what will it be like at rank 1000. From now on I'm just going to focus on farming currency and not worry about the tournaments. Oh, and another thing, flask charges don't refill fast enough.
Some VERY OP item + character combos that will win you games
Caldera Ravager + Sun Blot band ( +4 Proj )
Jade Shaman + Firebreather mead ( RF )
and ofc the best
Fieldmaster + CDR item
Currently I am leveling a ice spear totem hierophant. Should be able to kill most units easily and futthermore doesnt need to bother about using the skill yourself. Just place like 8 totems and watch everythign being killen instantly.
And i Noticed that running into their backline and just starten to channeling their totems disrupts their AI So much.
You're not the first to say this I will try test it some more thanks for the feedback.
Really like your content!
Sadly frost wall doesn't work in this case. It appears and disappears instantly when casted near totems
Hmm damn
Slight clarification: it can be cast in the middle of the battlefield or on the extreme edges, but within certain proximity of totems or even potential totem locations, they will instantly despawn. They do still move the enemy units slightly, which can provide a small guaranteed interrupt with good positioning.
I got to 600 just basically randomnly placing shit on the board lol. I’m playing poison SRS. Thanks for all the tips on positions to put everybody. I also agree on the thunderbird, my favorite unit. Win everytime I can get 1-2 of them
Thunderbird… “this thing basically has a mageblood on it” made me laugh out loud 😂
Amazing job, thanks.
Grim, you da man! thanks for this.
That's which ones you're supposed to avoid fightning as to leave them alive for the later rounds because they have the valuable loot
caldera ravager is insane with +4 projectile item he's NUTS with that thing, even navali scrap is pretty good on defense with that item I feel like.
I want to try to take a shot each time he says "here" xD thanks for the video!
im doing the mechanic with hexblast miner, just got to 150 suppress and swapped it to dodge+got a ton of evasion, hexblast mines can be thrown to the edge of your screen and have a search radius to detonate on top of that so its pretty easy imo, not as good as tshot for coverage, but your hits are a lot bigger so you get more consistent interrupts on enemies too
is that with sandstorm visage? I'm having trouble keep up especially if the enemies have proximity shields and what not
i'm around 370 in ranking atm
I just started the mechanic with hexblast and just got steam rolled at 250. On the first battle. Twice. Ouch. I definitely need more evasion and a little more suppression
I don't know how to swap it to dodge

Love your coverage of the mechanic, thanks for your contribution. You're a blessing both in PoE and Honkai Star Rail
Hii, super useful vdo, i have one question, which build u think is the best for this league mechanic? I wanna have the best build for this auto chess league and spend whole day and night in it.
just tried this strat lost miserably the first 2 matches
Hiya, was just wondering if this is still valid after the last update and if not will you be making an update to the spreadsheet? Great work!
it's good stretegy but it also confirm that if i want to have a good time this league i need to make another bow build. in this video he shot a few tornado shot which take like half second to get the same result of me runing back to my base and thrown trap to disrupt enemy from channel my team totem. which take 4-5 second for me.
that time is enough for more enemy to spawn....
Another high quality video. Thanks for taking the time to break it down for us mortals, trying to play as immortals in the arena :)
Thanks
Any recommendations for us melee pleb players. Or is it like sanctum where you are at a huge disadvantage with melee build? Great guide otherwise.
Basically the whole game hates melee players
I really hope this stays in the game. I think it will because it's very rich, not too complex, it's doesn't interrupt your gamelplay and tattoo are simply great.
Can you explain the 'reward rank' in the spreadsheet? For thunderbird it says flanker, but in the video you said that it's best on offense?
Flanker is offense. Flanker and attacker are offensive positions, defense and escort are more defensive. The reward rank is about the tribe leader, not the unit
Cursebotting them with doedres skin + curse Effect is also preeeetty strong
All hexes All the time with insane effect
"yooo, what is up guys grim here" ... music to my ears 🤣
actually the best way to eliminate harder masters early on is to fight them early to lower their odds of getting to the finals. chances are theyll end up getting knocked off the tournament if you atleast beat then once. easy enemy would be kaom but can get really scary tanky end game. the friendly masked guy is also lowkey strong and will one or two shot you real quick, if he gets closed to you so try to get in melee range when fighting him, oldman maata is also a darkhorse, his strat is flank rushing your base and I found that the best approach to him is to heavily defend against his flankers at first then turn the tide when his team dies. as for rakiata i found her easy as my playstyle is more of a passive methodical approach and didnt really rush her base, but like grim said base rushing her is big no no
If you get titanic shell and you put him as a flanker it's basically an auto-win every time, the enemy can almost never kill him.
Tiers
@@c-tothefourth4879 I'm talking specifically about the tiers when looking at a specific unit. Tiers don't make sense for me there, they're the same. a Speardancer will be a Speardancer.
I'm talking G14 to K15. Why does the position of the Spear dancer change when looking at the tier? Feel like I'm missing something.
EDIT: Could it be in order of priority? as in, use as Flanker first, if those slots are full, do Escort, then Def?
