One important thing to keep in mind is that not EVERY piece is worth crafting, even more so if it is a commonly crafted item. Prices for these kinds of items tend to be lower than their components. However, the more specific and niche an item gets, the more expensive it ends up being to outright buy.
Always check prices first!
To piggyback on this, generally speaking if you need chaos res and one other mod, its always worth crafting as t1 chaos res is very rare unless its forced, and it adds some 5x to the value of the rare, so spamming essence of envy on fractured t1 suppression until you hit t3-1 life and an empty prefix/suffx or w/e you need, always worth it since chaos res SS life gear is overpriced as shit

I'm on my first league in poe. And crafting is something that I am really just too scared to get in to. I've watched multiple guides about it already and still have no idea how to even start crafting. But this video is really informative, I watched(listened to) this while driving and I am able to understand how to craft or get the idea atleast. Great guide.

This is genuinely the first crafting video that I managed to understand. I am still not going to craft anything because I am too dumb for that but this is a great video. At least now I know something about crafting.
I feel the same as you. I understand the concept. I still barely even know what’s a prefix and a suffix so the whole process is time consuming to ensure I’m doing it correctly.
@therotten6152 if you scour it does that prefix stay on the piece of gear? Got some jewels I want to work on and craft of exile had it had approx 1400 tries.

So this video took me from never crafting items, because I was always afraid of wasting currency, to crafting ALL of the rares on my character. It took my character from being pretty meh to doing about 30% more damage and becoming a lot more tanky by capping my chaos resist. Thank you so much for showing these steps in a very clear and concise way. I’ll never play PoE the same ever again because of this video. ❤
True! All my rares are niw made by me, crafting. Made my first hundred divs by crafting items and swlling them. I just turned my 28 div to a possible 200 div item if I get lucky.

what an excellent video, thank you very much a lot of people needed this because most videos that talk about crafting, well, talk about crafting, and not show a any example or walk players through a process of crafting an item.
Quick note to the suffixes cannot be changed mod. If your suffixes are full you can use the Wild Bristle Matron beast to force the suffixes metamod on an item and it's always a cheaper price than the full 2 div crafting bench (It's usually between 1 and 1.5 div after the first week of the league).
There's so much in this game it's hard to remember everything lol I'm glad you know that, I didnt
@@mattb6646 the hole goes deeper, when mixing this with harvest crafting, resonators,beasts, fracturing the item yourself.. etc... you can do it from scratch pretty much to higher than this example.

Is there a prefixes can't be change version of beast?
@@mattb6646 No, it only works with suffixes cannot be changed mod because that's the only metamod that is also a prefix. Wild bristle matron adds a random metamod so only by having full suffixes you can get what you want deterministically

Thank you! This was extremely helpful. I just crafted an almost perfect ring for my build the other day and it was out of sheer luck. I think this would have helped me make an even better one, but it still turned out to be worth around 3 or 4 divines after only spending around 10-15 essences.

Fantastic video, this is pretty much the depth of my crafting knowledge but damn if it didn't take me a long time to figure all of this out and its really a good summary. I still don't really profit craft I just enjoy being able to make functional items for my builds so I can keep progressing and basically playing my self imposed SSF style because I just don't like trading much lol

Very good video! I was a bit overwhelmed by crafting, and am just now getting into red Maps and I needed to understand those possibilities and the costs associated with them, but even just going through CraftOfExile without proper knowledge was a bit overwhelming.

I really needed a guide on this, since I came back this season to PoE and I used to hate crafting so much. But recently my mindset changed and I want to be the one crafting amazing pieces on my Firetrap/RF Templar.
You explain extremely well, I understood every single step you said and I got into the revelation that I just gotta play with all the available crafting options and currencies available.

Big help! It's my second league and I only dabbled in crafting a few times and only with essences. I didn't even know about eldritch annuls which are sick! Will definitely use that for my crafting :D
Solid video for beginners, thanks for making the game more approachable! On a side note, I wish those fractured bases were more common in SSF lol, literally need to spend hundreds of essences on a base to make proper suffixes/prefixes.

Just started playing PoE. You are my teacher now, I've decided now. this was so organized and you gave people time to grasp what was happening, rather than just speeding through.
One important thing I didnt know for a long time:
suf/pre cant be changed means: only existing ones cant be changed! not the suffix slots themselves.
if there are only 2 suffix, a 3rd one can still be added. its easy to missunderstand!

Essence does respect the cannot be changed mods, it makes it so you can't use essence on them at all.

Really appreciate your videos and down to earth explanations. However, i find crafting way too rng and expensive when outcome is not guarenteed.. I find just playing the game, having fun,and then just buy what i need, from the currency that drop naturally, if i can afford it, is a better use of my currency than trying to hit the trifecta and waste potentially much currency.
I am a new player and as such is just getting to learn the many facets of the crafting system and i do craft but i dont like the gambling aspect of it..

The biggest single roadblock i have with POE is currency making. I just cant wrap my head around it. I want to craft so badly but never have any currency to do it or anything else in the game.
a really short quickstarter guide, how I start:
1.: choose a league starter (In my situation it's mostly just one char for the league)
2.: get into maps
3.: get enough map completions to specialize your Atlas tree for getting maps and all essence notes (one essence guaranteed, more remnant of corruptions, more essences, doubled essences if shrieked etc.). That's around 35-50 points.
4.: at this point, you should have a character capable of handling essence mobs in T1 to T3 maps and a few chaos to pay 2c for essence mod at the map device.
5.: run let's say 100 maps T1 - T2 (can be even normal or magic, quantity doesn't matter) -> that's 3 essence mobs per map -> 300 essence mobs in total.
6.: upgrade all essences to "Deafening" (except the four specials ones obviously)
7.: sell them
I made around 10 - 12 div just by selling essences within 70-80 maps. and since you are running low tier maps, you can be really fast.
One note on remnant of corruptions: just use them on Shrieking Essence of Misery, Shrieking Essence of Envy, Shrieking Essence of Dread, Shrieking Essence of Scorn
afterwards you can switch to something else. I personally like harvest, which can also be really prifitable.

One more thing, if you want to add a "Suffixes cannot be changed" metamod to an item with full suffixes, you can use a Wild Bristle Matron beast to guarantee adding it. Those beasts usually go for around 1 divine and change, so you can save around 1 divine on each attempt!

essence should be one of the harder to get mods or nessicary mods.
flip flop reses with harvest bench (get max roll or convert another element)
Jun missions are important for both increasing "good enough" item's value and fixing your own gear
gear is weighted for sockets based on bases(int-blue dex-green str-red). for 4 sockets its easy to get the correct colors by using jewlers orbs in the bench by increasing/decreasing sockets. this includes keeping white sockets and works with corrupted gear providing you have vaal orbs.
cluster jewels can be determinite with the harvest bench based on the pool avalible, for example a cold cluster with a speed mod craft will gaurenteed attack/cast speed roll.
some clusters have a "minmax" for item level, as it weds out "dud" mods. a huge example is the ilvl 50-67 (they are usually a lot more for the base)
Can you do a similar video for sub-2 divine crafting? What crafting options are the best bang for the buck
really depends on what you want. Essences, resonators, harvest reforges and alt regal are all viable options
