An Ork army is a massive, unruly mob of yelling, cursing, unwashed monsters, and painting so many infantry figures can seem like a massive challenge. It's not! Here's how I quickly and effectively bash out Orks ready for the table in no time at all. Simple highlights and a couple of neat tricks along the way will mean you're ready to WAAAGH!!!

Oh, this is very useful, as I hadn't painted Orks since ... some badly cartoony attempts at the Hero Quest Orks when that game was brand new. My oldest daughter has an army of them and a backlog of painting almost as big as mine - and some of my pile of shame dates from the 90s - and I'm trying to help her get caught up (which as we all know will never happen).
Especially the weathering, grime, and rust shortcuts.

I've ran an experiment on my newest Slaanesh Daemonettes but I think this is a good tip for Ork batch painters:
Instead of using Waaagh flesh, experiment a very bright green for the skin, do 3-4 thin layers if you are using a brown base like this video.
Apply a dark Green wash to the skin.
It does the transition for you, making the color look more organic, and since you used a very bright color it looks pseudo-highlighted. The video has a sightly better result, but this way is sightly faster.

I've seen similar results by starting from yellow for Ork skin. It really surprised me how much the successive layers of shade worked! Probably a little faster overall if you're doing a large mob in one go.

I prime in a bone color and then hit it Biel Tan Green was and it shades bases and pseudo highlights the skin in one go its fantastic

@@Sylan-ms9kj My technique is similar, but I use Athonian Camoshade. It gives a more organic looking light olive green colour

It can be a little difficult to see how a miniature will look once it's finished as you're just working through the steps. It makes it hard sometimes to guess if you're on the right path! Someone once told me that a model can look terrible right up until the last brush stroke, and that really seems true with these Orks. :D
