      Buckle up because you have one more game to go before Ubisoft plans to return to Creed based releases. Odyssey was the best release since Revelations, possibly even AC2. And apart from the absolutely ridiculous ending of AC Origins, it was an incredible game set in a wondrous time. And of the Pharaohs and the the Roman Republic. And the beginning of the Roman Empire. Although, the ending ruined that game for me.

    I don't mind Altair with an American accent, especially if it sounds better than a fake Syrian one. Altair's original voice actor, Philip Shahbaz, is Iranian, and even with the American-ish accent it felt genuine. The Arabic parts were pronounced just right.

    • @barkasz6066
      @barkasz6066 6 ปีที่แล้ว +173

      Wasn't the American accent on purpose? As in, it was meant to support some later plot point? Desmond asked Lucy about some of the characters talking uncharacteristically modern, and I think some of the developers at the time mentioned that there is much more to Altair's accent that they will explain later. I think Origins finally started to set up that original plot point, which either involved traveling back through time (they mention in AC1 that one of the Apples in Denver I believe is said to be capable of that) or otherwise manipulate the past through the animus.

    • @InhabitantOfOddworld
      @InhabitantOfOddworld 5 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      @@barkasz6066
      I believe, IIRC, that the American accent was merely a feature of Abstergo's current animus. While that system had other limitations, it's translation capabilities were second to none.
      The Assassin's animuses (animi?), while technically far superior, are far less capable at translation. I think lack of resources play into this; Rebecca is great with programming but she's hardly a multilingual.
      I think even AC2 explicitly stated this weaker functionality, allowing for Ezio's Italian accent as well as infrequent native words.
      We see this at play when Altaïr regains his native accent when living those memories in the Assassin's animus compared to the initial Abstergo one.
      The rest of the series then depicted the American saga, so English was the default, as it was in Syndicate, and Unity is unconfirmed since we don't know who the animus user is, nor who the animus belongs to.
      The only odd one out is Origins, since I think *technically* it's an Abstergo animus, but Layla performed much of her own updates and modifications that may have interfered since she, much like Rebecca, isn't multilingual nor a language expert and may have lacked the resources for such a translation capacity.
      TL;DR Altaïr has an american accent because the Abstergo Animus 1 is the most translation-advanced system to demonstrate the memories of a non-English ancestor.

    I think Altair knew Maria would die during that confrontation. He could see the future with the apple. Maria was shocked when he offered up the apple. Not to mention in the last scene, Maria asks what happens to their family. I think Altair purposefully didn't answer that question knowing what would happen. fl333r I'll concede that. I sort of assumed that by Maria asking about the future of their family, that it was implied that the apple was capable of showing such a thing. Not to mention, we're humans, as Altair. Even if he had the clairvoyance to know that she would perish there, he would likely attempt to alter "destiny" to prevent such a thing. He wouldn't simply do nothing. He loved her. And when I think it over again, it is extremely unlikely he didn't know Maria would die there.

    I love this game because of the parallelism between Altair and Ezio
    1) When asked if they regretted being an Assassin:
    Altair: How could I regret the only life I have ever known?
    Ezio: I do not remember making that decision. This life, it chose me.
    2) They both say "I have seen enough for one life" when reflecting on their sufferings and endless battles they endured as Assassins.
    3) About fighting for the truth:
    Altair: "There is no greater glory than fighting to find the truth."
    Ezio: "Fight to continue the search for truth, so that all may benefit."

      @@samdaniels2could you explain why? I personally think Revelations did a great job at fleshing out Altaïr's character and giving his story a proper ending.

    • @samdaniels2
      @samdaniels2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @herovaneijk2790 Sure.
      The original voice actor Philip Shahbaz had such a unique and cool voice that the studio asked him to keep his original American accent because it was just "too cool". In Rev, they changed that completely and he sounds like a budget, cheap, corny Aladdin villain. With his ridiculously over the top shitty Syrian accent. So he is not Altair by voice. This is an issue in games because we tend to get attached to the voice actor, so when it changes it is horrible. A good example is another idiotic decision by Ubisoft when they changed Sam Fisher's voice in Splinter Cell, which everyone protested.
      Secondly, they changed his face. This may sound superficial, but drastically changing a characters appearance is never a good idea, because it doesn't feel like the same character. But in this case it was particularly bad, because Altair's face in AC1 looked badass, the one in Rev looked like a rat with a bit of pre-pubescent bumfluff on his lip. How are we supposed to believe that ugly rat looking mf is a badass legendary assassin?
      So they have changed his face and his voice, so he is basically a completely different person. It's like taking a beloved character in cinema and changing the actor, imagine having a new actor replacing RDJ as Iron Man, no one would like it.
      If they kept his face/voice from the first one I would have been fine with the story, but in yet another bad decision in the catalogue of shit decisions made by Ubisoft, they changed him for no damn reason at all. And it completely ruined my experience of ACR because Altair was always my favourite character.

      @@Kraken1Kid Well Ezio’s face stayed the same between 2 and Brotherhood. I agree characters faces change but that doesn’t make it any better.
      But in all fairness, I read that the studio lost the rights to the original face model’s (Francisco Randez) likeness, which is why not only Altair, but Ezio and Desmond looked completely different.
      They had no excuse for the voice though, that was a retarded decision.

They came from different lands and backgrounds, first became enemies and then fell in love. Maria and Altair both started out hot-tempered, arrogant and brash, but through each other they became wise. And they loved each other til the day they both died. Having Altair having a cool normal voice without accent while everyone else has, i think is better. If you didn't know, Masyaf is an actual temple used by an ancient group of people named the Hashashin's. The Hashashin's would kill people that were political opponents and for political reasons. Masyaf was one of the many temples the Hashashin used to welcome people who didn't align with what was common. In one of these cutscenes, Altair mentions clearing out Masyaf and fleeing because of the Mongol Horde, this has historical significance to the story of the Hashashin because the Mongol Horde had destroyed Temple Masyaf and brought the end of the Hashashin.

    Can I say how utterly trash the Assassin’s Creed fandom is? You are all almost as bad as the Star Wars fandom, almost! You bully people who like games such as AC3, Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla and so forth because they don’t contain the word “assassin” in the game even though you guys forget what the true nature of the assassins are at heart, you demonise Ubisoft and it’s employs for doing something you dislike and you do it undeservingly because you either forget the people working there are under paid humans, and worst still you call UBS lazy and uninspiring yet none of you wish to prove that you are better by creating your own AC game! Not only that, but you all have such an arrogant POV of the philosophy of the game and the choices the devs make. Sure not all of the choices are good, but I always follow the rule that there’s always a decent reason for their choices (and if you say something stupid like “oh they do it for money” I’ll tear your heart out while I present to you the recession and high living costs and how underpaid these people are).
