Achilles was just like Yoda - dumb, narrow-minded and far too restricting and by the book to get anything meaningful done. And I will also say compared to other assassins namely Ezio. Achilles during his tenure as grandmaster did not really offer the same amount of freedom to other assassins. He was to bias toward the templars despite the best assassin in history. You have 3 sides of the story. Assassins on one side, the templar being on the latter and the third is the truth.
Achilles was far too paranoid that his actions and rules became so clouded and deluded that those very beliefs and rules were instrumental in turning dozens and dozens of assassins to the dark path in his time as grandmaster. It's quite Ironic. He tries so hard to prevent the templars' dominance that his rules to prevent this are the very things that helped it along. Shay is one of those who left or lost faith in the brotherhood due to its neglect, rules, incompetence, bias, and lack of freedom. And not the criminal gangs were responsible for the destruction of Lisboa.
Achilles isn't bad he didn't know anything about the artefacts or its effect to the environment. Shay just misunderstood the situation and decided to blame the creed. If Achilles had just calmly explained to Shay that the pieces of Eden are dangerous, ancient unpredictable artefacts, then they wouldn't be going through any of this.
It's definitely both sides at fault, I'm pretty sure they got the memo after Ezio basically retired from the creed and informed other assassins that this glowing alien shit is dangerous.

      Achilles' Perspective:
Achilles's story is great because his perspective is extremely realistic and relatable and logical. He feels so defeated and beaten down after not only losing his family but watching the genocide of the entire Assassin Order and watched them all be completely eradicated and wiped out by Shay and the rest of the Templars throughout the entire Colonies. He watched and witnessed as the Templars destroyed everything the Assassins had. It makes so much sense that he has lost his belief in the Assassins because he now sees it as an unwinnable fight. The Templars are so strong and powerful and have overwhelming numbers and resources that there is just no possible way to beat them. This perfectly explains why he is so pessimistic and against Connor becoming an Assassin. He discourages Connor from fighting against them and encourages him to just submit because it's logically the safer and more peaceful option. He now believes that it is better to just stop the constant fighting and killing, and just submit to the Templars because the conflict is just a pointless waste of life. He now believes personal survival and preservation of life is more important than fighting for the freedom of humanity, which very much shows how Achilles has given in and submitted to the Templars. He also sees and understands how the Templar vs Assassin conflict is neverending because new Templars and new Assassins are always being born and no matter how many Templars the Assassins kill and vice versa, there is no possible way to defeat them completely. The series has pointed out so many times that you can kill all the people in the world but you can't kill an idea and you can't prevent future generations of people from coming to believing it. This all ties in perfectly to Connor's speech about comprise and how the Assassins and Templars fighting eachother all the time is pointless and redundant because logically there's no end to it, and the best and smartest thing to do is to comprise with eachother and learn to tolerate eachother's differences and find a way to make peace and live together without fighting. This is literally the ENTIRE point and and explains the purpose of why Politics and Governments exist in real life and it all ties in perfectly with the setting of the newly founded America creating it's new government and political system. I love all of this so much there is much great writing going on here.

    • @Max-qb2rw

I mean, not exactly. Haytham stayed loyal to the ideals of the Order all his life yes, but from his actions it's clear that his family was important to him.
He went against Reginald Birch (The British Templar Grand Master and his supposed mentor) when he learned that it was Birch who had his father killed and sold his sister into slavery. He killed a senior member of the Order for family.
Then with Connor - despite being on opposing sides - he tried to work with him, convince him of the potential good of the Order. Killing him would have been quicker and even rid the Templars of a major threat, but he couldn't. It was Haytham who saved Connor at his execution when the Assassins couldn't quite get to him, despite this putting Charles Lee at risk and allowing Connor to stop Hickey from killing Washington - the Templars' big plot.
Even in that final fight at Fort George, it seems certain that Haytham let Connor kill him, by deliberately removing his hand away from Connor's Hidden Blade and goading him. He could have killed his son, ended the destruction of the Order in America and achieved the Templars' plans - but he couldn't kill his own child.
Haytham was never the best father - with his upbringing in the Order it's no surprise he wasn't exactly warm and supportive - but he still cared about his son (and the rest of his family); it was his major undoing in fact. He still may have died a Templar but it can't be said he was a coward or that he sacrificed family.

Britain at least gave it's foes the chance to resist. The US lied, cheated and Extorted it's way to the top. So much so that my homeland is it's slave. And just when I though the States couldn't drag Britain through any more filth they use British soldiers to do their dirty work then take the credit for themselves Achilles was albeit indirectly responsible for the Brotherhoods greatest mistake both before and after Shay betrayed them.

Let's all face it, Connor represents the basis of what laid underneath our youth: We all had dreams and goals but reality often changes the course of these aspirations for the world is different and unique in mind, soul, vision, and power. None of us ever has NOT made a mistake in our lives. Some of us have chosen to give up like Achilles and wallow away, Some of us have chosen to change paths like Shay and accept the choices we have made, Some of us have accepted reality like Haytham and work in it however we can because life isn't easy, Some of us have seen fame and Glory like Adewale and lost countless friends to it but continue on to the end, Some of us have been Edward and realized that our ambitions can hurt us and changed before it was too late. Those who are like Connor are many because we too have lost friends who we thought were our friends. We have lost family like our mothers and the pain is still there. We have hoped to reconcile and change our parents who are like Haytham. Connor does represent our generation because not one of us has ever been truly right or wrong. We just make it up as we go. Any plans we have never go according to plan, but we have hope and faith that it does. Act as you wish, but remember that you are human and no less nor more fallible than the next person. Connor is well written because he relates to our younger selves.

When I first saw Achilles in AC 3 I was taken in by his story and how it seemed that he was a soldier who fought hard but lost everything I actually felt sad when he died. Then when I go through the events of AC Rogue I realize that his actions where what caused all of this. If he had listened to Shay instead of automatically assuming that he is a traitor then all this would have been avoided. I think in AC 3 he realizes this and tries to teach Connor not to do the same mistakes but at the same time using Connor to get revenge on the Templars for him not even caring about their good intentions the Templars actually had. When he died he took comfort in the fact that his last student had been the one to avenge the Assassins and would eventually found the new American Assassins chapter.

Sure Charles Lee was mostly racist and crazy, Thomas Hickey was a mercenary who only wanted money, booze and women and most of the colonial and American templars owned slaves and did terrible things but... People like Haytham Kenway, William Johnson, George Munroe, John Pitcairn and Shay Cormac were good decent people compared to the rest. They genuinely wanted to do some good for the people. "Good intentions" is stretching it a bit. The Templars spoke with velvety tongues and sharp wit but at the end of the day, they all want to strip humanity of what makes them... well, human. William Johnson talked about protecting the Natives before threatening to kill them for not selling their land. John Pitcairn started a war while claiming he was about to make peace with the Patriots at Bunker Hill, and Haytham's ultimate goal was to turn America into a glorified concentration camp. Oh, and let's not forget Shay himself, who claimed to not harm anymore innocents after the Lisbon earthquake, but then kickstarted the French Revolution which indirectly makes him responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocents.

Conner: I never properly said goodbye to you. I was not ready. So here I am. The weight of my responsibilities never seems to diminish. There is always something else that needs fighting for. This is something you never warned me of, maybe because you thought I would have been deterred - you would have been wrong but I know you we not accustomed to that. Life carries on here. The people seem happy - they are certainly safe, at least for now. One of my brotherhood asked me something I have been struggling with, what happens if - when- we win? When we stop the Templars? It is a question I certainly do not know the answer to, perhaps you did not either. I miss you. As I miss my mother. I hope all is well with you, whever you are.

Speaking of sequel, I feel Connor and Arno deserve a sequel. How about some ideas? I could consider a sequel which would take place in Australia which I would call Assassins' Creed Down Under where 2 can be playable - Connor and Arno where they will band together to stop the Templars, convicts banished from Great Britain to Australia and stop slavery in Colonial America and Australia. Then Connor (in Achilles' robes) along with his recruits join Djarrjuntjun, Aveline, Eliza, Robert Faulkner and Arno in the fight against James Cook and the templars who seek to colonise Australia.
There will be iconic Red Rock, Sydney, Adelaide, Swan River Colony (now called Perth), Van Dieman's Land (now called Tasmania) and Canberra. The start of the story will be Faulkner and Connor bringing his recruits, Aveline and Eliza on the Aquila to Australia. A flood of memories came to him.
"It's all a matter of perspective. There is no single path through life that's right and fair and does no harm."
"Your meddling in the revolution has caused us no small measure of grief. It cannot continue. Our work is too important." came another.
"Do you think that good King George lies awake at night hoping that no harm comes to his native subjects? Or that the people of the city care one whit about them? Oh, sure, the colonists are happy to trade when they need food or shelter or a bit of extra padding for their armies. But when the walls of the city constrict - when there's crops that need soil - when there's... when there's no enemy to fight - we'll see how kind the people are then."
"Thing is, boy, I can have what I seek. Had it, even. You? Your hands will always be empty."
"And we should live forever on castles in the sky."
"In your haste to save the world, boy - take care you don't destroy it!"
"The people never have the power. Only the illusion of it. And here's the real secret: they don't want it. The responsibility is too great to bear. It's why they're so quick to fall in line as soon as someone takes charge. They want to be told what to do. They yearn for it."
Upon arriving at Hawkesbury River, Connor and his allies witnessed the Indigenous clan under attack by European invaders.
      - - Connor's story - -
1779 Connor's apprentice named Djarrjuntjun, an Aboriginal of Gumatj tribe assassinates James Cook while Connor and his recruits (Stephane, Clipper, Duncan, Deborah, etc...) combat against the incoming wave of enemies led
1782 Connor helped freed an Aboriginal Australian assassin of Gumatj tribe whom I'll name Djarrjuntjun might have a similar past like Connor, hailed from Southern parts of Western Australia.
27th January 1788 - Connor, and his allies combat Christopher Gist and the templars who displaced a group of convicts at Sydney Cove. He assassinated Gist.
The recruits dealt with the convicts. 6th February 1788, The women convicts came ashore. There followed a ‘scene of debauchery and riot’, accompanied by a violent thunderstorm. Deborah and Aveline faced the women convicts who were involved in the massacre of Aboriginal Australians.
21st May 1788 - Djarrjuntjun killed a convict and seriously injured another.
31st December 1788 - Because the Aboriginal Australians could not be coaxed into the settlement, Djarrjuntjun begged Connor and his allies that one named Arabanoo was captured and held in confinement. Phillip hoped to learn his language and so to promote good relations between Aboriginal Australians and Europeans. They assassins was about to free Arabanoo until they discovered him being a traitor.
Connor and Arno went on top of Australia's Red Rock where they met the spirits of his ma, his childhood friend, Altair, Haytham, Edward, Adewale, Bellec, Ezio, Arno's pa, Achilles.
1789 - Connor assassinated Arabanoo and questioned him as to why he sided with the Europeans. The Second Fleet.
Connor faced an Irish templar in combat named Caingneach O'Brien with similar intentions as William Johnson who sought to purchase lands to keep them safe. Caingneach sought to purchase the lands to keep the Aboriginal Australian safe. Before Connor assassinated him, this time, he decided to question Caingneach for his reasons and his intentions. He decided to spare him.
Then Shay, George Bass, Jack Weeks, George Johnston and Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney would imprison him for disobeying an order.
      1791 - The Third Fleet.
1794 - Hawkesbury and Nepean Wars and Lady Shore Mutiny.
      - - Arno's story - -
30 June 1800 - Arno assassinated Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney.
1801 - Following the discovery of Kangaroo Island by Flinders, lawless sealers known as "Straitsmen" came to the island. Their main work was hunting seals and whales. Connor, Arno, Aveline, Eliza, the recruits defended the seals and whales from the convicts. Once they had become established on the island, to satisfy their need for wives the sealers kidnapped Aboriginal women from Tasmania and the mainland and brought them there. Djarrjuntjun, Connor, Arno, Eliza, Aveline and the recruits fought against the criminal gang who kidnapped the Aboriginal women. Caingneach warned them about those wanting to settle in South Australia. Connor and Arno gave him the permission to buy the lands. Unlike William Johnson, Caingneach was successful in purchasing South Australia.
5th February 1803 - Arno assassinated George Bass.
4 and 5 March 1804 - Connor, Arno and their allies fought the templars led by George Johnston throughout the Castle Hill Convict Rebellion. At that time Connor went to free a handful of slaves in Colonial America and Australia.
26 January 1808 - The Rum Rebellion was instigated.
3 September 1808 - Arno assassinated Philip Gidley King.
      1 January 1810 - Rum Rebellion ended.
      21 June 1810 - Arno assassinated William Paterson .
19th July 1814 - Arno assassinated Matthew Flinders.
31st August 1814 - Arno assassinated Arthur Phillip for his involvement in the colonisation of Australia, the massacre of Aboriginal Australians and for turning Arabanoo against his own people.
1816 - Hawkesbury and Nepean Wars ended with dispossession of land of the indigenous clans
1st July 1824 - Arno assassinated Lachlan Macquerie.
1829 - Connor, Aveline, Djarrjuntjun, Caingneach, Arno and the recruits helped liberated Swan River Colony from James Stirling and the templars led by Cudgel Cormac as well as the convicts. With this done, Caingneach managed to purchase Western Australia.
1830 - Bathurst Rebellion October 1830 - Arno assassinated Patrick Logan only to find Cudgel and Jack Weeks executed Caingneach for his ties with the assassins.
30 April 1831 - Arno assassinated Collet Barker.
      11 April 1834 - Arno assassinated John Macarthur. 5th
January 1838 - Arno assassinated Jack Weeks for allowing the convicts and the mass murder of Aboriginal Australians.
      3 February 1847 - Arno assassinated Sir John Eardley-Wilmot, 1st Baronet.
1863 - Connor, his recruits met Eliza and who band together to face Cudgel Cormac and the templars from Colonial America and Ireland.
5 January 1823 - Connor assassinated George Johnston.
In 1823, Brisbane sent Lieutenant John Oxley to find a new site for convicts who were repeat offenders. Oxley discovered a large river flowing into Moreton Bay. A year later, the first convicts arrived at Moreton Bay. Brisbane visited the settlement in December 1824. Oxley suggested that both the river and the settlement be named after Brisbane. The convict settlement was declared a town in 1834 and opened to free settlement in 1839.
1828 - Connor assassinated John Oxley.
      4 June 1848 - Arno assassinated William Sorell. 12
August 1855 - Connor assassinated Richard Bourke. 2
April 1858 - Connor assassinated Ralph Darling. 27

Fight between Connor and Arno vs. Shay Cormac.
      - - Side missions - - Connor, Arno, Eliza, Aveline, Djarrjuntjun and the others help the freed slaves build a huge town where Aboriginal Australians, Irish, Scottish, English, Africans, Native Americans, Maoris, Polynesians and Indigenous Taiwanese (all freed slaves and survivors of persecution) live together in harmony and security - near Red Rock, The Humps, Walga Rock, Mount Wudinna or the southwestern parts of Australia. Connor brings his daughter to the newly built village
Liberation of slavery across - Australia (including Tasmania), Colonial America. Arno visits his pa's grave. Connor getting remarried to Deborah. Naval battles against British ships.

Jose Lemus I mean if it wasnt a game then it would very possible for conner to have gotten himself killed or hunted down, he was very close to death when he was being hanged if it wasn't for haytham he'd be dead om the rope but if you also take a look at haythams death he didnt want to killed conner he could have stabbed him in the throat like conner did to him but he chose to let conner kill him had this been a fair fight like in acillies words would have ended in tragedy. conner had alot of self confidence when he killed the first two men while achilles always knew it would only take once slip up for conner to meet his end lucky for him he was fighting his dad

Jose Lemus and by the end of the game in conner epilogue he realises as ezio did near his end that any man could come for him at any moment and he may not have the advantage for surprise to bail help him kill his target at the end of the day he is a single man trying to also killed a single man not an army fighting in war although he did cheat death many times it was ultimately time that mercilessly tooks his life after he done the same to so many others in name of liberty which in an ironic sense led to him inadvertently betraying his own people

That's why he told connor to not be rash because he knows he will end up like him if he does even though rouge was not yet planned nor released yet when ac3 came out they really made both stories intertwine and it really makes you understand where the words of wisdom Achilles gives connor come from because he sees himself in connor and he also sees a potential in him and that's why in ac3 he said to connor that even if his words were harsh there is still truth in them

    • @Ratzmoonmopes

Shay struggled with going forward with the Templars because he was killing people he knew since his adolescence. He only helped the Templars because Achilles' brotherhood was allowing gangsters to commit crimes in New York, Kesegowase to attack colonial towns and villages in Albany and the frontier, as well as supporting the French in the war. Shay wanted to do good and he found good men in the Templars. But Lee and Haytham? They used their own members. Weeks and Walsh were both probably offed after their use. Then you have Haytham being supportive of the French Templars corruption during his reign if you played AC Unity, then he even allowed gangs back in New York and Boston, and he also broke the Templars' promise to Laurence Washington about not bothering George Washington, his lil brother. He let a loose cannon like Lee run about and cause turmoil for Connor. Haytham uses people when he has to and he used Shay as well. Shay saw more good than bad in the Templars he was around but if he stayed long enough next to those like Lee, Hinkley, and Haytham then no doubt he would've turned corrupt.

      Imagine this scene in Australia.
1793, Connor hurried to Sydney Cove only to be surrounded by thousands of guards, all armed. Moving on to general melee attacks, Connor unleashed havoc on the New South Wales Corps. During his confrontation, he was level-headed and defeated thousands of opponents with his tomahawk, disarming and dodging attacks from many directions. He could strike with exactitude before his opponent could react, and subdued individuals twice his size.
With reinforcements now closing in around him, the Native American assassin suddenly realised his physical prowess, speed and endurance were enhanced as though some mystical powers overtook him. He took care then to keep each opponent on the back foot by spreading his moves between them, and in this way he escaped major damage. By now Connor had drawn sufficient power to unleash special properties in combat. By trial, he found that he could not only dash in super speed, but his strength was amplified. And in those few seconds, he was able to dash from one to the next, vanquishing each in a single blow. By now he felt more comfortable in his abilities against foes such as these, and resolved to save this miracle of combat for stiffer opposition.
After his fight was won, he heard sounds of grunts and gasps. His first inclination was to drop over a rail to the streets of Sydney Cove below, yet he noticed two guards patrolling at a farther balcony, and stayed his hand to look for a route that he might challenge them where they stood. He slowly moved to see Shay mercilessly punching and kicking a man whose hands were tied above him. An outhouse section stood to one side, its door ablaze. Shay left the man, huffily. From its roof he had height enough to run out on a wall and spring away to grab a wooden beam over the heads of the two sentries. As one moved away, Connor chose the moment to drop down and finish him with two slashes of his blade. The second stood unaware as he crept up behind and slashed just once. With them dead, Connor severed the rope that bound his hands, dropping him to the ground.
      “Qui es tu?”
      “What?” Connor wondered.
      “Who are you?”
      “I’m an assassin. Connor.”
“Assassin? You appear to be a Native.”
“I am. Who are you?” asked Connor.
“Arno Dorian. I am an assassin or at least I was before the brotherhood banished me.”
      “What happened?”
      “It’s a long story…”
      “BRACE YOURSELF!”
Shay shouted while sliding from a zip line. Caught suddenly off balance, Connor suffered a kick in return. Alone with space to manoeuvre, Connor got up and kicked him in the groin area sending Shay staggering. Shay attacked immediately, but Connor blocked and countered all of his attacks and he kicked Connor aside. He collected himself and Shay tried again, failed to land a good hit and Arno kicked Shay to the ground.
      "Who are you?" asked Shay.
“I was trained by Achilles. Now step aside.”
“Achilles? I should have known Achilles would never learn. In that case, you will make a good target.”
"You joined the templars. Achilles told me you were once an assassin who joined the templars. Now you became my father's puppet."
“You're the one whom the poor sod I killed in Versailles mentioned.” Shay sighed.
“Killed? Versailles? Quoi? You? You killed my father?” Arno realised.
“What of it? I wouldn’t just cry over a business that has been concluded, if I were you.” Shay rebuffed.
“And you sparked the whole French Revolution and made me lose everything.”
“You catch on quick, boy. You killed Weeks, Gist and James Cook." Shay recalled.
"I have the foggiest idea about what you're talking about."
"It doesn't matter. What matters is that I made a mistake in sparing Achilles. Die, assassin!"

      - - Shay vs. Connor & Arno - -
Without recourse, Shay leapt at Arno and Connor. Shay's fighting style was as every bit as powerful and deadly as he was when killing the assassins. With plenty of anger in him this time, Arno tried whatever he could against the man who murdered his father. Although an expert fighter in the assassin techniques, Shay’s expertise and weaponry prove too much to cope with for Arno. Connor's rapid healing was a useful asset that kept him throughout the whole events from the American Revolution to Hawkesbury and Nepean Wars proved more of a match for Shay, but even he could not withstand the fury of the templar.
Unlike other templars who were killed by the use of stealth, this one was to be facing each other in hand to hand combat. Unlike Haytham who held back for unclear reasons, Connor faced a templar who was willing to fight for real without hesitations. He released berserk darts from his firearm. Connor was gripped in the lash of the darts' effects. Snarling and growling, Connor chased Shay and Arno who avoided his blind rage. A misdirect hit from Connor sent Shay to the ground. Judging by the injuries, they weren't too severe as similar to Haytham and Connor, Shay could heal at swift rate. He dealt a hard blow to the possessed Connor, knocking him to the floor. As the effects wore off, unlike his victims who died, Connor went in a state of fatigue. However he couldn't afford to relax or get caught in Shay's hidden blades.
      “I feel nauseous.”
Arno jumped in to cover Connor who was in a recovery state. Connor tried to clear his head from its contents. The French assassin took out his cutlass and the Irish templar took out his sword, both clashed. Arno vowed.
“You will pay for killing my father.”
“Killed him? I was doing France a huge service.”
“So many casualties are lumping on my country, far greater than the last damage you did.” Arno reminded.
“I was merely bringing order and balance.” Shay was not touched.
Connor bounded to his side, recovered. Both Arno and Connor were formidable assassins with plenty of weapons and mystical powers to fight with, but Shay's unnatural strength and powers still gave him the edge in combat. As the three men battled, Arno initially remained on the defensive, blocking Shay's amazingly fast attacks, but eventually he, deciding to go on the offensive, followed the templar's movements closely enough to catch his arm and land a blow. Although Shay was barely cut, Arno had demonstrated whatever he learned with Bellec. Undeterred, Connor jumped in and beat Shay who sneered.
“Achilles taught you well. You must have had a good teacher. And you can follow him to Hell.”
From his rifle rolled a useful gift: a fragmentation grenade with a powerful blast radius.
"Why? What have you got against Achilles?"
"Achilles was always a failed mentor who murdered his followers." Shay pointed out.
"Achilles may have made mistakes, but he never murdered his followers." Connor rebuffed.
"Is it not murder to send ill-prepared assassins like you to their demise?"
This brought no answer. In furious sequence, Shay fired three grenades in rapid succession at Connor who tried to steer a course between the grenades. They heard rapid ticking as a grenade bounced towards him.
      "Take this," Shay growled.
      “Watch out!” Arno shouted.
Arno and Connor dodged aside from the blast. The grenades exploded. And in so doing it inflicted damage that Connor could not long sustain, leaving his health at its lowest. Connor had at least the miracle of the swift healing with which to undo such hurt as he suffered, if more than one took its toll, but he somehow sensed he would need such miracles to better purpose. He flipped himself back on his feet and drew a wary path between the remaining grenades, nearly obscured in dazzling clouds of dust as the explosions wore off. His assassin's instinct signalled him to avoid Shay's incoming attack with his hidden blade and grabbed him by his head. Shay grabbed Connor from behind in the hopes of restraining him. Connor lifted his legs up, gathered every ounce of strength and crashed his feet to the ground, dropping Shay onto the ground. Connor smashed Shay's head on the table before smashing a glass bottle on his head.
"You should have joined the templar." Shay insisted.
"Even if you were a templar, you had some sense of honour. Achilles told me you rendered Arno an orphan. Where's that sense of honour in that? I am an orphan, you must be an orphan too. Arno is an orphan."
“How dare you speak the word orphan to me?” Shay huffed.
Panting hard, with a deft thrust Arno plunged the berserk date onto the templar's neck. Caught in a paroxysm of madness and rage, Shay went on a destructive rampage. The two assassins avoided Shay who was sweeping his sword crazily. This drew fully half his strength. The rogue assassin was stilled for a moment, and teetered on collapse. However, his recovery was swift. Connor closed in on Shay to try combat one-on-one. No crude fighter he was; the templar blocked expertly and swung his sword in swift reply. Hidden blades jutted out from Shay’s sleeves. Connor’s assassin’s instincts signalled him to counter the latter’s hidden blades with his.
Arno took a chair and tried to smash it onto Shay who avoided it. He kicked Shay in the groin, causing him to falter again. It was undignified but effective. Connor grabbed his opponent and smashed him against a wooden fence. The Irish swordsman closed in from behind, and Connor was knocked heavy blows as he attempted to block. A boot kicked out. He could not afford to be caught close to Shay, and rolled aside as the sword crashed down. Agility was his surest defence. Connor tried his best to cause his stamina to wear off. Shay's skill and finesse as well as those of Arno’s are equal to each other. Shay pressed the attack as hard as he could. Arno held no such qualms and gave a kick to the groin. Arno gave another to the face and the final kick was to the head. Shay still proved to be a fast and formidable opponent, but Arno was always faster and his skills in battle surpassed the rogue assassin. Connor punched Shay in the face. Shay scored with a punch to the gut and a follow through punch to the face, but Arno returned blow with a high kick, forcing his foe to defend. Arno hit a right jab to the murderer of his father and followed through with a left hook to the face that knocked him to the ground. He fought back as well as he was able. Arno seemed never to gain advantage before his opponent lunged fast to assault him from behind. To single one of the assassins out, Shay fired a dart at Arno, causing him to feel dizzy.
      “Hey… w…watch… out…”
      “Arno!” called Connor.

      - - Shay vs. Connor & Arno (part 2) - -
Arno dropped onto the ground, sleeping. Perhaps to momentarily grant him enough time and space to finish Connor. Shay seemed inexhaustible and durable. He could not hope to hold him at bay. Shay moved nimbly as Connor launched the attack, and once more railed on the stricken assassin. Connor recalled the berserk dart and avoided them. He caught one of them and stabbed him again. As the templar went into a maddened state, he thrust and slashed furiously in the wrong direction. Frustrated by his attempts falling short, Shay looked about and saw the carts full of hay. He quickly retreated and hid inside one of the carts. Eagle Vision was a great asset to help him spot where his foe was. A whistle called him. As much as he didn’t want to fall into the trap as with those who fell to the hidden blades, Connor approached with caution.
Before he fell prey to his enemy’s hidden blades, he sensed his stalker emerging from it and grabbed Shay’s wrists before dropping him to the ground. He had already learned how much he had come to depend on his weapons, and a reckless approach would not do here. Out of the blue, he quickly hid inside another haystack and quickly tried to make sure he was successful in his attempts. Mere child’s play perhaps; perhaps this was a game after all.
This time knowing what the outcome was, Connor quickly got to the haystack. Any mistake for Connor would be terminal. Shay once more got out to grab Connor, this time he tried to stab his neck. In his distress, Connor raised his forearm to prevent himself from being killed, grabbed Shay before smashing him against a table, a wall and throwing him to the ground.
Drowned in his dreams, Arno swirled to the depths and recalled Shay murdering his father, his time in prison, the French Revolution and his banishment from the brotherhood. Strange whispering voices and half-human cries filled Arno’s senses. Arno got up, his body felt numb.
“How did you… no fair! I killed assassins like this, but you? What are you?”
“I am an assassin like my grandfather and my ancestors before me.” Connor declared.
“I have underestimated you. I’m a master in stealth and hand to hand combat. No more sleeping darts or berserk darts? I never… I never ever felt insulted in my life. No assassin could have bested me. Not even pitiful, dull Achilles.”
He was about to check for his pouches and grunted with anger since his tactics were failing. Shay fired his two flintlock pistols. Smoke bombs were the very least he had in his disposal. He used it to escape when under fire or to distract the templar and Connor found this opportunity to beat him down. Before Connor was about to finish him, he threw a multitude of grenades, forcing the Native American to find solid obstacles to avoid the explosion. Connor fired an arrow at Shay who avoided it. A shéng biāo impaled Shay's right arm, pulling him towards him. Shay fell to the ground, triggering a line of explosions. Grenades perhaps.
Somewhere else in Port Jackson, Stephane and his allies helped Djarrjuntjun in the eradication of the convicts and British Army, defending the Aborigines. With their warriors’ ardour, they launched a furious assault against a group of slave traders. They had cut them effortlessly. Clipper signalled Duncan to kill the last group of slave traders and Deborah severed the ropes, freeing the Aboriginal slaves.
“Oh, thank you, you are very kind.” an Aborigine woman smiled while tears came out of her eyes.
“Yes, we, the Aborigines owe you.” a man with grey beard offered.
“Our job is much more crucial than gratitude.” said Clipper.
“How many slaves will be free?” asked Deborah.
“That is yet to be answered. Connor is doing his best.” Djarrjuntjun promised.
“Were you a slave before you became an assassin?” asked Stephane.
“No, but my village was burnt down since my childhood. And I wanted to show them what it is to bring death to my family, my people, my home!”
“You’re not alone. We will help you find him soon enough. For now, we got to work on freeing the slaves.” Stephane placed a hand on Djarrjuntjun’s shoulder.
      “You will do that?”
“We helped Connor, though it turned out nothing went well in the end.” Stephane reminisced.
“What do you mean?” asked Djarrjuntjun.
“There were slaves and his people were gone. We will ensure yours don’t fall the same way as them.” Jacob explained.
      “And you helped?”
“Connor fought against slavery and brought them to Australia.” said Jacob.
“Arabanoo betrayed my people by siding with the invaders.” Djarrjuntjun felt upset.
“Well, on the plus side, we freed the slaves and we eradicated those convicts.” said Deborah.
Believing the explosions would end him, Shay emerged from the smoke, his robes burnt and in tatters plus his hair was now loosened, revealing it to be shoulder length.
“I can’t believe it. How did I end up like this? I threw grenades only for me to be dragged into them?”
      “How is this possible?”
Connor was dumbstruck by his survival. It was a miracle that he survived the explosion.
      “I hate… I… hate…”
A multitude of grenades came Connor’s way and the fire was getting hot. Seeing that grenades and darts were wasted, anger overtook him. Shay stabbed at Connor, who dodged. Confounded by the speed of his victim, the brute struck solid stone, striking sparks; the right hidden blade drove into the wall and became stuck. The Native American assassin saw his chance. He moved swiftly behind and rained blows on the stunned man, doubled over and suddenly helpless. Arno got up, groggily. The right hidden blade became blunt and it snapped to shards. As Shay closed in from behind and suddenly loomed close, Connor rolled aside just in time. As before, but this time the left hidden blade became stuck in the ground. Now Connor rolled behind, and paused for a fraction to allow Arno to do the honours. The second hidden blade fell to the ground. Seeing they were now useless, Shay dropped the braces or gauntlets to the ground. Blinded by rage and aggression, Shay felt all of his weapons were completely spent, forcing him to drop them. This time, his templar sword was the only weapon he had left. Connor and Arno took out their swords. Neither of them could last against each other. Shay became increasingly irritated.
