Ive had the pleasure of talking with Chris a couple times. Once lwas after his last 30" trout. The man is truly as kind, genuine, and passoinate about trout as he comes off in these videos.
Nice video Todd. I know you had a blast fishing with those guys. I got a couple friends going down in January to fish with Capt. Joe. Chris and Mike can sure get after them also.
Nice trip. I live near a bay in Texas that is known for big trout. (East Bay Matagorda) Because it is shallow, we were decimated by the freeze a couple of years ago. Creel surveys put us back to only 35% of normal, so we've been slow to come back. I have only caught one 27" since the freeze, but I love fishing in a place where at least there's a chance. My best day was a 28" and two 26" trout. I'm fishing mostly for reds in the marsh ponds these days, but I still have to break out a super spook when conditions look right. The big trout hit the Hogie swimming shad soft plastics that are made right up the road, but the super spook my favorite.
Loved the vid, can’t wait to see part two, I would love to explore the lures that could catch those big trout. I have some ideas. 😏 Hit me up if you’re interested.
port Mansfield is great little gem of STX. I head there on the super windy days. i know locals that never go anywhere else. i still bounce around from the handful of boatramps we have in the lower laguna madre. i pulled my 30inch trout from port isabel.
I used to stock my freezer every fall off the lighted piers in Palacios. I would go during the week around 11pm to avoid the crowd. Lots of fun. Since I bought my kayak, I fish mostly in Matagorda now, but Palacios has some really good bank and pier fishing.
Great video. I know Chris is very good about breakdown the "why's" has he or you done segment on why they had more big trout caught and you had more reds? The obvious go-to is cadence, but is that all? As you said... you're in the same area, same baits, cadence and presentation is the only thing to consider right?
My personal best is a 25 inch very thick speck that weighed a shade over 5 lbs, been duck hunting in Venice past few weeks and been tough at best but I have heard Venice fishing off de charts.Got a buddy with a few camps in Venice and gonna be spending some quality time down there hopefully shooting ducks and gearing up for Spring Speck fishing down there, artificial lures ONLY.
Indeed it is. I never thought I could like any place as much as South Louisiana, but I was blown away by Port Mansfield. In addition to incredible fishing, it's just got a really cool vibe.
Yes. TBH, I've never put much stock in it, but these boys swear by it. And there did seem to be some correlation between when the major period was and when the big trout turned on.
I commented like a dummy before finishing it. Ha. Great video with Chris. As a Slidellian who has lived in Houston for 17 yrs now and spent 10 months in Corpus for work before, It’s def an amazing fishery like no other. Different style of fishing all the way around from LA and the Ponch basin I grew fishing.
@@ProDoc18 Still doesn’t answer why they spend so much on high end boats. If it’s just transportation to and from the spot then a jon boat or something else much cheaper would do the job just as well as an $80k Pathfinder or whatever
That was so much fun, I say we do this every year until you break that 30” mark. You in?!
Uh, hell yeah. Let's set the dates.
Im in too 😁
Same here! I’m in! 😅
I’m in lol 😂
Let’s get it gents!!! 🎣 😂
Wow. Incredible fishing spot. Wishing you all tight lines always.
Good to see you fishing Texas. A "solid" fish around here is 22+
I grew up fishing south texas with my uncle who was a guide in the 80's. We used broke back top water mullet lures and caught huge trout.

Appreciate you brother!
Epic video and gang to fish with, alongside Chris, McTrout and Joe
Fifty years from now, when there's a speckled trout hall of fame, those three guys will be in it.
Awesome trip to Port Mansfield!
Awesome day on the water brotha! Some great company you fished with can't wait to see the second day of your trip man. Congrats on the new PB!!!
Oh man you’re killing me Todd!! I held my breath that entire video waiting for the monster from your teaser!!! 😂. Great trip!
Be sure to check out the day-two video, which I hope to drop Friday.

Really impressed with Joe. He went way, way, way out of his way to make sure he put us on the fish.
I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MADE TROUT THAT BIG
Just sat down to wrap a rod and just started the video and I'm excited for this one!
Todd you shud bring Joel out there, that wud be a hoot!
He's coming next year
He’s definitely coming next year as long as he brings good weather
@@speckledtruth4577 hes a good sport and fisherman and always makes me laugh.
Great video, what a day wading Mansfield!
Chris bush is like mystical wizard with the mustache lol
That’s the greatest compliment I’ve ever received
Man I hate catching them bay carp when I'm fishing for trout!!!! What an awesome video!
Dude snagged a mullet, then fought it like a hammer!
I have been fishing Landcut and South for 40+ years and flat days like that are rare. They usually fall on Mondays. Very nice Trout guys!
Chris put on a clinic!!

Yeah, you're right about the feeling of fishing a place where you know a stud is a legitimate chance on any cast. It's impossible to get bored.

Welcome to South Texas...
Thanks! I'll be back

The most enjoyable thing to me about this video is the release of these beautiful egg bearing females!
Nice trout guys,I fish Palacios tx, & catching limits off of Baptist pier.

When you tighten both numbers and size you can actually catch big trout. Maybe LA can learn as always from Texas!
Great video .
Thanks, nice
Man it looks like you caught the same red twice around the 18 minute mark!! Great content! love the video
Nice video 💯

Joe Prado helped me figure it out the next day. Be on the lookout for that video Friday.
It's funny that we all wake up and are on the spot before the sun gets up and the fish don't start biting until well into the day.
Did yall take a left or right once you entered the bay
Wish the trout would get big like that. Probably need even tighter size limits and less hook-and-cooks.

Is that an Okuma rod? If so, what model?
With that stache, Chris went from police sketch to undercover cop WITH THE QUICKNESS
🤣🤣🤣 Or maybe porn star
Obvisious you weren’t in La when showed the road and no trash and garbage
Sadly, you're right
Same in Corpus.
Dumb question but what is “ the major”? Major times the bite turns on?
Yes. TBH, I've never put much stock in it, but these boys swear by it. And there did seem to be some correlation between when the major period was and when the big trout turned on.
@@MarshManMasson ok so where does one find that info?
You were the REDFISH WHSPERER
Yeah, exactly. I didn't catch a big trout that day, but I had a blast.
Great video, thanks
Wow 38 minutes into it someone finally says to you retrieve it like this . Anyway great day to be out
Ikr, help the newbie out!
nothing wrong with duck waders when the air is 45'
That plastic would be a mirrolure little john
You must not have watched the whole video, Mr. Dicke

Mike's a good dude. He and Chris have been friends for decades, but that's the first time our paths have crossed.
Texas gators
What was Chris doing that you were not? How was he retrieving his lure?
Check out the video from Day Two. It'll drop Friday.

Wasn’t feeling poor until you put it in my face. But yeah still working and paying uncle sam..
Can someone explain to me why TX fishermen will spend $50-80k or more for a tricked out flats or bay boat but then get out and wade all the time?!
Because it’s probably hard to get to the spots without a boat.
@@ProDoc18So why not just buy cheaper boats? Or stay in the boat?

The poorer people was enjoying your video ! Sorry we are no longer watching.Thats what the poor people do
4 pounds... "That's a start." Man them Texas boys have it nice! Watched every second! AMAZING FISHING VIDEO!
You're exactly right. A 4-pounder here is a fish you tell all your buddies about.
