We hope you like them just as much after running in them. To be fair, we found the standard Speedgoats to be a bit narrow at the point the toe tapers in, not in their ass. But to each his own. :)
I'll be in Charlotte for a 10K next weekend, and I'm looking forward to stopping by the store! I love the CarbonX, and I'd love something similar for the trail. Are the Speedgoat Evos my trail Carbons??
Why mess with perfection? I'm talking about the hair, of course. Perfection. Otherwise, the Speedgoat is still a tiny bit narrow for me, so maybe this update will work? And I'd still be curious to see a huarache review! I'd highly recommend a super simple tied option with a Morflex or Newflex sole. The OG Luna Venado with a leather lace has been the best for me and has lasted literal years.
Oh, the layoff has been tragic with the hair, thesii213. It just won't stop flowing. Hopefully he'll still be sporting the locks when the latest shoes drop this fall. We have some huaraches in mind, but may need a stand-in reviewer for them. Nathan was running around in the Alps and didn't take any days off the long runs to build up his barefoot running! On a more serious note, the Speedgoat EVO toe box is - surprisingly - a dramatic change for us from the standard version. No issues at all for anyone with a standard sized foot to date!
@@TheUltraRunningCompany I'd offer my services as a stand-in reviewer, but I don't have either the hair or a fancy home studio I'm afraid. If you're interested in a write-up perhaps?
Anyone bought this as a women's version since they are so rare? I tried it now and went with the same size as my men's SG4 and what should i saw, it fits perfect! Hope i could help someone with it...
I had mens SG3 in size 7.5 that had wide enough toe box for me. And nowadays in Russia prices on everything are twice as high compared to 3 years ago. Had to try womens and its strange but I felt womens 7.5 too long. Bought size 7 and they fit like a glow. The only concern is will they give me blisters when my feet get swollen🤔
Thank you for very detailed and very professional reviews! I have a question to you guys. One often sees male and female Hoka shoes which are exactly identical, colors and everithing. For example, this particular model "Hoka EVO Speedgoat Limited Edition" exactly the same in male and female. Are there any differences at all between them? Thanks in advance.
Hi Amber. We're planning to post an "overview" video in the near future outlining our philosophy regarding shoes we review and carry here at the Ultra Running Company. One aspect of this is that we try to avoid shoes with an exceptionally high "drop"/"heel/toe offset". The heel of most Brooks products are a bit high for our taste, effectively eliminating it them consideration for a top-flight trail shoe. It's not that you can't run in them or that they will inherently cause issues...just that a high heel typically makes it a bit more difficult to land efficiently. There are so many great shoes out there that we generally avoid taking the time to review shoes outside of our consideration...so unless we hit a real dry spell and want to blow off some steam we will probably not have a Brooks review posted any time in the near future. Also, when we opened the Ultra Running Company they didn't want to work with us because they wanted us to direct people towards the Adrenaline, and guiding people towards a particular shoe regardless of their individual form is not something we have ever been interested in. We chose to stick with our integrity vs. caving just to stock a popular brand in our store...so we really don't get our hands on many Brooks at this point. So there's that, too. Sorry to let you down!
Thank you for these. Could you possibly do a video comparing the Hoka Clifton 6 and the Bondi 6? I am conflicted on which to get for marathon training due to the extreme mileage I have been logging.
We'll see if we can fit that in. We'll be back releasing videos as far products drop that interest us, but if we have a quiet spell we'll try to slide this in.
Thanks, Russ! We don't expect them to do that any time soon. The EVO is more generous in the towboat due to the design changes, but as far as we know there are no plans to introduce a truly "wide" version of the shoe.
The Ultra Running Company That’s a shame, even with the flexible insert in the toe box, I’m not confident they’ll be wide enough for me. If I ever see a pair ‘in the wild’ & in my size, I’ll just have to try them. They do seem hard to get hold of though. Cheers for the prompt response.
@@803248364 If you're ever in Charlotte, swing on by. We have them in stock in every size, and will continue to do so until we can't get our hands on them any more! :)
The Ultra Running Company I wish there was somewhere so well stocked closer to me! Would love to drop by but I’m in the UK, so pretty unlikely. I was once in Raleigh around 10 years ago though, so you never know...
Great review thank you, wondering if you would recommend this shoe for the Marathon des sables multi stage desert race? or do think the mega grip is an overkill for the MDS? I am looking for a comfort shoe that could work for the MDS. thanks in advance
Excellent review. Just found your channel...you really know your stuff!. Question...I'm looking for a trial shoe. What is the difference between the Speedgoat and the Mafate? I have long (size 11.5) narrow feet. Thanks...just subscribed!
Hi Michael! For us, the two major differences break down to 1) tread/traction: the Mufate is no BS, all trail, all technical, all the time. And 2) Cushion: the Speedgoat tries to strike a balance between technical nuance and max cushion, while the Mafate is just a great big cushion monster. Both are VERY capable, but if you're running groomed trails at all along with your technical terrain, the SG may be a better option. If your trails are all rocks, soft ground and aggression, the Mafate will be your hero. Good luck!
Hi Robert! The MegaGrip sticks well on any wet surface, and we're guessing British roads are no exception. With that said, this is a pretty aggressive shoe to be considered door-to-trail. While we wouldn't change out of it during a trail race that had road sections, there may be better options if you have a more even split on a daily basis! (although all of those would give up some grip moving away from our favorite Vibram compound...)
For sure: The Mafate is a beast of a shoe with more cushion, a different effective rocker placement, and traction like a pair of crampons. That's awesome for super aggressive trails, for longer distance efforts, or when traction is essential...but in some cases its overkill. The Speedgoat remains more suited to efforts where the trail is technical but not brutal, where the surface is somewhat solid (think the deserts of Utah or anything that someone who is not a "trail runner" would consider approachable), or where you want to be a bit more in touch with the surface. We think the Speedgoat is just a bit "racier" in feel, but that's just us. Bottom line: the Speedgoat allows you to pick through terrain knowing there's enough cushion that if you make a wrong step you'll be well protected, while the Mafate allows you to just plow through stuff. Both are pretty awesome.
HOLY CRIMOLY, Nova! How do you stand?!?! Just kidding - we know everyone's feet vary in size, width, instep height and more. Nathan jokes about his shoe size because it basically eliminates our ability to get pre-production shoes for review AND it means that nothing EVER weights what the manufacturer says it will when he puts them on his feet. We're just providing another data point and trying to have fun with it, and appreciate you being a part of our effort. As for new reviews, we're getting a TON of new models in now, and we'll try to be consistent with our efforts until we get through them. Our first review of the spring hit last Thursday and we'll be dropping them every week for the foreseeable future. Thanks again!

If you have good feet and bad knees you’ll love the standard fit it’s feels like you have new knees 😁if the wide version is you only option they feel nothing like the standard to (run )in
My US 9.5 EVO Speedgoat weights 267g (~9.4oz) so you are right on that. To me interesting part now when rainy fall is starting is also measuring weights when wet. "Real people sizes"? I believe the shoe industry uses a size 9 to gauge shoe weight and be reasonably consistent across brands. Do you not consider a person wearing size 9 to be a "real person"?

And... 3) Yeah, we mispronounce stuff, but we're from North Carolina, and as such we get a bye on everything we say by rule. Also, we get a kick out of the French saying the word "focus". Go on. The music is turned down as much as we can while maintaining a solid in-store experience for the folks who shop here and keep our lights on. We'll do what we can to improve the experience as we learn/get better equipment, but in the meantime appreciate the kind way your mention this and are sorry our existing constraints drove you away. :)
