    I love this guy! Tells you all the bits you need to know with no BS. If only I lived in Westminster and could drop by his store for some live, personal advice. The review left me hanging for more though. I would love to see a trail shoe review that goes into the where, when and hows of different shoes available now. If the Speedgoat is good for some but not all, what other shoes should we be looking at that might better fit that particular niche that we are looking to fill

    Thanks for the review. I have been really happy with the Tecton 2 and moved away from the Speedgoat first to the Mafate Speed then the Tecton. Perfect balance of lightweight, stability, and the right amount of cushion. The main issue is the higher price and that no one carries them to try.

      Glad to hear you're liking the Tecton X. It is a very fun and responsive trail running shoe. It's one of the shoes where the market is very niche so not many stores carry it. We have had a small run of the older Tecton X in the past for the few people who may be looking for a carbon plated trail shoe.

    I went to your store yesterday for the first time and tried both the Speedgoat 6 and Challenger 7. Both felt great, but I ultimately went with the Challenger. Afterwards, I went to Lake Hashawha for a walk/run and I must say, after 5 miles, I was still comfortable and pain free. They should've released more colorways for the Speedgoat.

      Glad to hear you like the Challenger. The Speedgoat will have more color availability within the next month or so.

    Great review! Even if they're not necessarily applicable to me, I liked hearing the details, good and bad, of personal experience with it.

    Did they alter the last at all? I tried the Speedgoat 5 but it didn’t work for my feet. The toebox was really pushing up against the sides of my big toes, causing blisters and discomfort. Tried wides and sizing up but I just couldn’t get a good fit.
    I’ve really been enjoying the Altra Experience Wild which has a lot of similarities to the Speedgoat (EVA foam, decent stack height with a small drop) and unlike anything I’ve tried from Hoka, it’s actually shaped like a foot. Just wish Altra would add Vibram to everything.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The last on the new Speedgoat 6 is the same semi-curved last as the 5. The Wild is a fun alternative to the Speedgoat. We agree that Altra needs to add Vibram on more of their trail models.

      @jeffjohanson3830 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Altra soles are dangerously slippery (a few models do have MegaGrip) in wet and technical terrain. I’ve tested and taken the falls to prove it. They also wear out fast from past experience and zero drop is not for everyone. Not sure how they are go to shoes for the AT and PCT etc. Big toe box most likely.
      Get a Topo shoe if you like that bigger toe box and many of their models come with Vibram full coverage MegaGrip sole. Built sturdier than Altra as well IMHO. The founder of Topo Athletic previously worked for Vibram.

    these videos are great and informative...do you have a comparison of the Bondi 8 and the Gaviota 5?? thanks

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The biggest difference is the stability on the Gaviota 5. The H-Frame helps the Gaviota keep you centered on your feet compared to the Bondi which is completely neutral. This will give the Gaviota a firmer feel. The only other minor differences you will notice is the heel-toe drop and the stack height. The Bondi has a claimed 33mm to 29mm heel drop while the Gaviota has a claimed 36mm to 30mm heel drop. Further measurements have found that they are both measure closer to the 36mm mark, showing they are very comparable in the cushioning.

    How do you like the speedgoat6 vs mafate speed4. You mentioned rolled ankles with the mafate? I'm looking for a shoe for 125km race with technical terrain

    Is it better than the 5’s? I’m doing my first 50k in October and I’m getting ready to order some new trail shoes. I’ve put a little over 250 on my speedgoat 5’s so far so I’m trying to decide if I want to 6 or 5’s for my first 50k.

    To me the foam is just meh. It’s a little too firm and did not love the ride. I think the trail shoe market is so good right now you need to bring your A game. Update the foam and I think Hoka has something

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We agree that the EVA foam does leave a little bit to be desired, especially when there are a million different shoes in the same category as the Speedgoat.

      It is an interesting decision from Hoka to release the one color at launch. In a few weeks you will see more colors available in the speedgoat 6. Some great color options if I may say so myself.

      @@russ4972 not at all - it's just a terrible color combination and is odd that they only are offering the single color way at release. My theory is because they want to sell more of Walmsley's Tecton 3 when it comes out and are moving away from the speedgoat name due to not owning the trademark.

    Stopped by the store and landed on these. Been hiking with these for a couple days and will have them up in the White Mountains later this week. Liking them so far. The tongue is a little finicky to hold in place when I put them on. Gene Simmons…😂🤣

      White Mountains. Not a better place to test the merits of a shoe like this. I’ve done multiple Pemi Loops in the SG4/5’s and a 50 mile 17K elevation gain Hut to Hut Traverse in the SG5 (that nearly killed me LOL)
      Try a VJ Maxx or Ultra 2 in the Whites that grip like a Gecko and make Speedgoats seem almost slippery…..which they definitely are not. Stuff you can get away with using the VJ shoes is ridiculous but can’t go wrong with the SG

    50km is that a long run? Or 2hs run?! I use the Speedgoat for 90 to 160km long runs!!

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes. 50km is considered a long+ run. A marathon is approximately 42km long. 50 is reaching the ultramarathon territory.

      I'm hoping to get 50 milers done in these. Just got a pair of 6s. Moving away from Altra Olympus 5. It's quite a bit firmer than the Altra. Do you think I can get a 100 miler done in these. I'm a heavier built runner. Cheers for the review. Very good! Love from High Wycombe, UK 🇬🇧
