Great tips. You also may want to make sure the riving knife is perfectly in line with your blade. Mine got out of whack a little bit and was pushing the cut piece against the fence causing some binding. Took me awhile to figure that out since my fence was dead on.
Also, make sure the riving knife is the correct width for the blade you are using. A riving knife wider than the blade can cause issues as well. A good example of this is using a thin kerf blade with a standard riving knife.
These machine calibration videos are priceless! You explain the processes needed very well. I only hope my videos can be as helpful to someone else like yours have to me!
Just another example of why your channel is one of the primo ones on the Tube JKM THanks a whole bunch for this very simple easy tutorial for a subject that will pay huge dividends on all future projects and best thing about it it does not take a huge $$$investment nor a huge time investment just perfectly suited for the DIY er
I made a “set up blade” with no teeth to get in the way or hurt you. I took a wore out high quality blade, cut the teeth off on my vertical metal bandsaw, then chucked in the lathe, turned it round. Then checked it for flatness. Works great and never bites me.
I believe that most carbide teeth are brazed to the blade, not welded for several reasons. First, to join dissimilar materials. Second, to avoid changing the grain structure of the carbide material by overheating (annealing) and the distortion due to thermal expansion.
I would also add making sure the zero clearance plate is level with the table. Especially before using it to set the angle of your blade. I thought mine was level, but after a while of inexplicable messed up cuts, I realized it was warped and was messing up any cut that was sliding more on the plate than the table. Obviously, a great video regardless. Thanks!
Long time watcher First time commenter. Just wanted to say really enjoy the channel. Good info. Also been using the dovetail jig for a long time. Works great.
thank you for the informative video. i applied your tips and it worked only on the left side of the blade....everything was nice and dead on square...HOWEVER to my surprise the right sight of my blade was not......How can that be ????? So I checked the surface and noticed it was off probably by 1/64 .....So my question is can i get the blade square by using WHAT REFERENCE ??? Thank you very much !!!!!!
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and videos. Do you know of a budget friendly fence that would fit an older Rockwell Table Saw,?? It has round tubing in the back and front . Needs a handle to raise and lower the blade. I appreciate any ideas. Rodney
I have a jet 5hp cab saw. My biggest issue withbit is the teflon fence. It comes out of square and will have a bow in the fence. Drives me nuts every few weeks to have to reflatten it out.
Yes good idea. I bought a new table saw about 25 years ago from Grizzy and didn't know about any of this. Well I could not cut anything square and was really pissed because I paid a lot of good earned money for this saw. So I didn't use it for years since it is only a hobby for me. I then saw something like this and checked my saw and found the blade was out of line and not by thousands of an inch but by over 3/16" with no way to correct it. It was now out of warranty so I took the saw apart and took parts to a machine shop where they milled large slots in them and I could than move the blade to square everything up. New idea, don't buy from Grizzy or check all measurements if you do. Cheap is not a good idea if you don't know how to check alignment.
Love your videos Brow... I saw this one vídeo on TH-cam bout this guy talking bad stuff about jobsite tablesaws that they are no good ay all.. that only cabinet saws do the right job.. and got me sad cause I'm saving money yo buy me at list a dewalt jobsite tablesaw So... Tell me something about allá this.. thanks I like your vídeos..
Hullo young man. Good sound advice there but when you mentioned Rob Cosmon, I had taken his pointers quite some time back. I hope I am still your pal. LOL.
Jonathan, I am buying a sawstop this next week...I have debated between the professional 3hp and the industrial 5hp. What would you recommend? I will be using some thicker/harder material, such as 8/4 hard maple, osage, white oak...you opinion is greatly appreciated.
You'll never be sad you went with more HP. Plus the jump in hefty cabinet on the industrial is pretty freaking beefy. I say go for it and your grand children won't be disappointed when they're your age. It's a lifetime tool, one time purchase kind of thing.
I did this with my new saw, but something is still off. With my fence set to 5" (or less) my cuts are accurate. Yet once I move my fence, say to 10", the cut is a heavy 32nd over.. The further out I go on my fence it seems to gradually grow. So at 20" my cut is 20 3/32. Any thoughts? (It's a new shopfox hybrid saw w/stock fence). Thanks in advance!
Great video, and I also really liked your maintenance video too. Out of curiosity, since your from a construction back ground, Jonathan, is there any job site saws or portable saws you recommend please? Thanks so much and sorry for the random question.
Sawstop all day. Best saws on the market in every category even if you don't count the fact that they haven't lost a finger in the history of their company. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the jobsite or contractor saw
Jonathan Katz-Moses. Thanks so much. Sadly, it’s another great brand that isn’t available in the UK. It’s a shame that someone couldn’t pick them up to import.
I don't pursue agreement between the tilt scale and the blade tilt, because I don't trust the scale and the stops. If I want a precise angle, I use a a mechanic's square or a draftsman's angle. Ditto the miter gauge. Of course, once set, the stops are good enough 99.99% of the time.
You said that the Pittsburg tape might be more than a sixteenth off than the guy claimed, but I don't think you checked anything beyond 24 inches. The guy assuming the tape would be off by a half inch over 25 feet is pure speculation. The most I saw was a 1/32 assuming your woodpecker and pencil marks were accurate. And that was probably due to the end clip as you say. A better comparison would be to lay the Pittsburg tape right up against other tapes, match them at the one inch mark tape them down across the bench and see if the other hash marks at 12 and 24 inches line up. This takes the clip out of the observations.

Jonathan Katz-Moses you don’t be happening to be selling your old saw do you?
No it's going to my shipping managers house for a while
Brother, this was the most all inclusive and simply explained saw video in existence. Many, many thanks!
NOW I GET IT. THAT'S EASY TO ACCURATE FENCE TO THAT WAY. i MADE MY FENCE BY MYSELF 3 TIMES. FINALLY I UNDERSTAND HOW TO ACCURATE :)
T NX BRO
Very thorough and judicious with your dialogue. Thank you!

Potentially life saving. That’s good to know.
Just picked up a used StawStop, i'll double check all those points. Very good and quick instructions
Clear instruction. Thanks Jonathan. Appreciate how to do it without a fancy pressure gauge.

Wow, I literally just bought a used delta today. Perfect timing!
I’ve got my first proper table saw arriving tomorrow. All your table saw videos are super helpful. Thanks 👍🏻
I like the proud miter runner. Nice trick to make it easier to measure
Great tips. Almost spring which means it's almost woodworking time again!

Great video Jonathan I have been adjusting the wrong set screws on my saw stop all this time Thank you so much.

Great video. This process is ABSOLUTELY crtical when buying a used saw
You also need to check that the insert is flush with the table

Love to own that sawstop but unfortunately won't supply to Europe
Good vid, thanks!
Love the video! What’s the plan for the old saw stop??? 👋🏻👋🏻
Going to a good home

I have an extremely important question...what watch are you wearing???
Danny Davito making a cameo.
Next video donating a saw stop to a guy in Vegas.. Me! 😝😝
