I just bought an old Craftsman table saw with a cast iron top. So these tips, especially the remove rust/protect is Perfect Timing!
I really like that push block and the crosscut sled, and liked them since I first saw them in your videos!
I use Collinite Metal Wax. It removes rust and leaves a protective barrier behind. My cast iron top is very smooth. I even used it on a planer that wouldn't go up or down anymore. It works great now.
Thanks for the product review on the GRR-RIPPER+ and BladeClean! Great video!
I love the story you posted about the best free gift you’ve ever received, thanks for your testimony, God Bless. Ron
Just got my CMT Dado Stack (and got the email this morning that it shipped!); this is the second time I've see this item come and go in the space of a few days, so I am really looking forward to getting it in and giving it a whirl, both figuratively and literally. Thanks for introducing it to us, Matt!
my Amish neighbor suggested R-Vease. I trust him because they don't have air conditioned shops and rust is a major concern in Tennessee humidity. It is hard to find but better than wax and cheaper than carbon method.
Awesome. I've been using carbon method for some time now and it's on all of my metal surfaces in my shop
Event the doors? 😂
The best tablesaw upgrade I've made is the "Incra TS-LS Tablesaw Fence". There''s not even a close second for me. It transformed my tablesaw. The accuracy and repeatability is unmatched. If you ever have a chance to review it I would love to hear your thoughts.
You may want to take the bearings off the router bits before soaking in the cleaning solution. It can cut the grease in the bearings and cause them to fail sooner.
Nice tip!
Thank you for your videos. I am a DYI'er and I have learned safer ways in the shop. And I really enjoyed how to clean your blades. I thought you just had to buy new ones when they did cut as well. Thanks for saving me money! Please and more on general maintenance and cleaning of your tools!
Nice mag 77 you got back there. I bought the same saw about 7 months ago and love it!
Izzy swan has the best push block!!!! Period!!
Very nice Video Mr. Matt. I have the gripper to go I do believe. It’s the simpler version but it’s all I need.
3:25 Sandflex blocks are a lifesaver, and you can use them with the T-9 to lubricate and scuff. Game changers!
Matt, I wanna add some food for thought about rust on table saws. After sawing some lumber on mine recently I did not clean it and was totally covered. The next day I come in and every spot that had larger chunks of saw dust on the table had rusted. Not realizing that the wood had moisture in it(as it was decking boards I ripped down) which caused the rust spots. Needless to say I learned my lesson. Just thought I’d point that out as something simple as wood chips can cause rust!!
Great video as always Matt Thanks for sharing. Happy Father’s Day’s
Happy Father's Day
I just ordered the CMT dado stack blades to use on my Skil TS6307-00
'So you don't cut that center piece...' Lol, that's me. I'll have to look into the new one. Cool tip. I have the Microjig blade cleaning system too. Good recommendation, it works well.
Congratulations on 600K subscribers Matt! Movin’ on up brotha, that’s awesome keep up the content 🤙🏼
Appreciate it!!
What would be cooler with the blade cleaner would be a crank handle that spins the blade or the scuff pad. Like an old CD cleaner. Pour in the cleaner, put the blade in, lock the lid and spin the handle.
Love the Powertech sled... can't get it in Australia though. We always missw out....
I have the Dewalt 7491RS and am wondering if there is a way to make it's table "slick as snot" like you did for your metal topped table saw (I used finishing paste for a quick solution but not sure that's the best way)
Lovely
I second Carbon Method. I used it in my new sawstop cast iron top and it’s still perfectly shiny. Helps protect against scratches but it not a lot. Don’t even waste your time on paste wax.
imo that dado stack is the way to go. it locks everything in teh right place and is safer to use, regardless of regulations
Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Great video as always Matt. Sorry, the factory work in me has to suggest doing a video on Locking out and trying before doing work on machines. Just a suggestion.
The tablesaw sled is a spittin image of the Rockler that I have.
Interesting upgrades. Thanks for showing them. Think I'll finally go for the GRR-Ripper. I've postponed getting one long enough. 🙂
One thing, though... Boeshield T-9 does *not* contain teflon (or silicone), so you won't have any problems with your finishing. I swear by it. IMHO it's the best product of its kind to protect your tools if you're living in a damp environment.
Check out the Milescraft brand of the gripper. Comes with extra side pieces where the Gripper is extra cost. Worked just as good.
@@jeffwilder7117 Thanks Jeff ! Will do.
Because I don't have a table saw
What are you waiting for
You can get the ryobi 10 inch for about $200. They make two ten inch models, I'd recommend if you can afford it get the bigger one for fifty bucks more. It's a bigger table and has two miter slots unlike the smaller one I bought not realizing that.
@@JamesSmullins and for 70 dollar more the skil has been in discount this month, and its excelent
@@rulowth4815 I've used the ryobi to cut thick wood including wet pressure treated wood and it doesn't bog down so why spend $70 more? And the ten inch ryobi is rated for dado stacks which isn't the case for most jobsite saws, it's one of the reasons I bought that one.
Its criminal to mention the gripper without also mentioning Steve ramsey lol thats dudes ads for it are hilarious
Congrats on your 600k subs!
Thanks!
Regarding the power tech crosscut sled, it is comparable to the "dubby" sled, which has been marketed for years and which I have heard good things about. Also which costs more than the PowerTech.
This is the first time I've ever heard "Slick as owl snot." ROFL!
Could you try a skill mitre saw for budget woodworking and compare it to DeWalt mitresaw
Got one on the way
What about using B’laster Surface Shield rust protectant on the table saw surface?
Can thus be used on the blades itself?
Just wondering if the carbon method would be good for the base of my brand new milwaukee track saw. If so should I also do the tracks?
Naw, those are aluminum. Shouldn't need any rust prevention on them.
Solid option bra
The router bit cleaning looks slick BUT perhaps we should be concerned about the bearings. Perhaps soaking the whole bit and bearing might dissolve the permit lubricant in the bearings. Dissemble the bearing before soaking might be wise. All my blades just got a bath in a garbage pail lid but some cleaner did get on my table. So this might be a better way and faster.
That yellow jig thing looks like a fisher-price toy I had as a baby.
The link to the crosscut sled to Amazon is for a small parts sled the Home Depot one goes to the miter sled. Is that what you intended
They sold out of those sleds. The Amazon listing had several products on the same link, but since the sled sold out it isn't showing up. Apparently the HD link is similar.
Questions, how slick is owl snot, and what is your point of reference?
Why is there a Hercules saw in the thumbnail? Have you ever used that one? Any good?
How often, and what is the duration that you leave your dehumidifier on?
100% of the time
I have an aluminum top…..any suggestions to reduce friction?
paste wax
Is owl snot slicker than cow slobbers?
"it's brass, not metal" 😂😂
JK, great tips
I have a small workshop ( 20 feet x 10 feet ) and space is limited , if you had to choose between a table saw and a track saw , which would you choose , thank you from Stuart in the uk
I made a video on that topic that may help here th-cam.com/video/UAIr27EOoCc/w-d-xo.html
@@731Woodworks thank you so much , I love your channel
Depends what you're trying to cut. I have both.
Bigger the workpiece the smaller the tool (take the tool to work piece)
.
Vice versa with small work piece to the bigger tool.
Full sheets of ply? Track saw hands down.
Small pieces of wood? Table saw
I'd be concerned about workpiece contamination from the T-9 if I was painting the project... teflon doesn't mix well with paints or lacquers, particularly water-based ones...🤔
That dado stack has been sold out, since your first review.
I don't suppose the CMT dado stack fits your Dewalt table saw?
naw, unfortunately not
So I finally give in and buy a Gripper, THEN they lower the price? Great, just great.
Why did the video image have a Hercules table saw in it? It wasn’t in the video.
table saw
When you are using isopropyl alcohol, it may be 91% alcohol but the other 9% is water. I wouldn't think putting water on cast iron that you want to keep rust off of is a great idea. You should stick to mineral spirits for the final wipedown before applying the seal coating whether it's wax, T9 or any other product.
I've had mineral spirits leave behind thin oily residue before. You can pick up 99% isopropyl alchohol used to clean electronics for soldering. It's pretty cheap on Amazon if you're worried about it, but even the 9% water should evaporate pretty quickly without time to actually generate enough oxidation to matter.
Remove your bearings before submerging them in Simple Green
Everytime i hear "slicker than owl snot"...i hear jeff foxworthy
I've been a professional cabinetmaker for 25+ years, I've worked in everything between 2 man shops and 15 man shops.
I'd say 85% of woodworking videos on youtube, Instagram, etc. are showing things for the novice and amateur woodworkers.
None of the products you show here would be seen in any cabinetshop.
10:05 Brass not metal 😅
I think the link to the PowerTech sled is the wrong product.
Naw, it was on that listing but they sold out so the option is now gone. It'll return when the stock returns. Sorry.
@@731Woodworks Home Depot also is sold out. The PowerTech sled is priced at the point where it is almost as cheap to buy then build; especially if you factor in the cost to run to the store to buy the material to make a sled.
Makes no sense the microjig blade cleaner isn’t water tight especially at that price.
Please remove your bearings before
submerging your router bits.
99% of wood workers need to make these upgrades! 😂
😂 agreed
I just spray wd40 on the table saw, same effect 😅😂
oh come on now, the "blade cleaner" is a bit of overkill (and expense/waste of space). Just use the lid of a 5-gal bucket and let it soak a bit, if needed scrub lightly with a “scotchbright” pad from the Dollar Store, then dry it off. I guess put some work gloves on if you are concerned about cutting yourself. So a dollar and stuff you have laying around instead of whatever this costs and the space to store it.
MARK 2
5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”
microjig better have lowered the price since they offshored manufacturing to asia lol
Errr... Brass *is* metal!
Brass won't damage carbide becasue brass is a "soft" metal. Steel brushes are harder and therefore could damage the carbide on the blade.
When are you gonna rename your channel “731 tool reviews” ?
I'm not. This channel started with tool reviews. I like the direction of the channel and with 6.2 million views in the last 28 days, it looks like many others like it too. 🤷🏻♂
@@731Woodworkskeep up the good work. I love it!
Love that comment "if you care about EU regulations".... Nope not one bit.
**cough brass is metal cough cough**
brass = soft metal. I was referring to stainless steel brushes as they are harder and can damage carbide.
@@731Woodworks oh i know, just kidding, i knew what you meant
Sorry but the Gripper is one of the most hyped but unnecessary gizmos on TH-cam. It’s expensive, fiddly to set up and completely replaceable by any number of homemade push sticks. You TH-cam woodworkers are constantly hawking this thing, I’m not buying it.
I like your content a lot, but please stop using “99%” in your thumbnail. It’s not true and reeks of Mr. Beast.
This was filled mainly with disposable of novelty junk. How is this going to help anyone in the long run? This vid is a fluff piece with no real substance. Show real tools that last of can be recreated instead of cheap plastic bits that will break of get used up in a short amount of time
