First of all you saying your not a country guy done it for me because country to me is everything so idk what's up with you but anyway glad you came across this song and you are really missing out because COUNTRY music is all there is!!!
I watch cmt throwback videos every thrusday and watch 90s country music videos every wesnday and Friday. On Cmt And watch heartland country music rewind every week ❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤ I loved them then, love them now! They didnt act a fool on stage, they sang, played, & moved just a bit with the music. I don't even listen to what they call country today!!! But I sure do turn some George, Conway, Alabama, & Waylon up loud!! George was right "who's gonna fill their shoes!?" None of the yahoos today!
I have always loved Alabama music..I just turned 77 years young , because music has a way of lifting your spirit and taking you back to long ago...Randy Owen has always been my favorite singer of all times..
One of the best Country vocals and Harmonies you'll hear, like hearing a Great Eagles Track with most of the Backing taken away, reminds me of Mo Bandy and Band in the Mid 70's. (Just add The Eagles are the most Fantastic Band I ever seen Live, with the Orchestra and without)
Couldn't agree with ya more Janice. Alabama turned the corner on progressive country. Not like today's cookie cutter artists. Just ain't interested in the new crap country.
Yep, class of ‘84 and remember them well, especially when they played the Houston Rodeo. Still have the ticket stub in my senior memory book, along with a George Strait stub.
I'm not a country guy like at all, but a little while back I bought this old busted up cassette tape called country gold that had a bunch of various artists and songs on it from back in the day. This song was the opener of side one. Two full rotations through and I was belting this this one out loud lol
A grown man sitting here with tears in his eyes! So many memories that this song brings back! Time slips away so fast! I was a young man then. Now I’m knocking on seventy. So yes, this music pulls at my heart strings!
My mom was a country music lover, me I tolerated it. But listening to these songs I remember my parents driving us around on a Sunday drive and listening to this I was 7 or 8. Now I’m 48 and my mom is gone sure wish I could take a Sunday drive again.
Their music never gets old, I can remember weekend mornings Mom listening to Alabama, Conway Twitty, Billy Joe Royal, Earl Thomas Conley, Keith Whitley, etc. while cleaning the house, funny the memories that stick with you throughout the years.
This song is a good reminder of your very first Love. You don't forget your first love, whether it's by : Nature You met in kindergarten Married Divorced Abandonment Moved away Death Or something else You don't forget your first Love.
Amen, mine was in high school in a small town. She never wanted to leave that small town, but I wanted to see the world. We went our separate ways and I got my wish, and she got hers. Now, 35 years later, I wish I would have married that girl and stayed in that small town. I searched the world over and never found a girl as pretty and sweet as her.
Jeff Cook is one talented guy. He can shred a guitar and play a fiddle and a piano like nobody’s business. I’m sad he had to retire due to his health problems
Just saw Alabama in Nashville July 3rd, 2021. Randy's voice is still as strong as ever. There will never be another Alabama. I'm so glad I got to see them - finally! I've been a fan for 50 years!
I remember waiting for each and everyone of their new albums to hit the store. I would buy it the day it got to the store and listen to it in my pioneer cassette stereo in my old 1977 ford truck. DAMN those were some great times.
I am 22 years old, and Alabama has been my favorite since I was old enough to listen to music. For my 18th birthday my Mom surprised me with tickets to go see them in concert, and it was one of my favorite memories. They sound exactly the same!
Been listening to Alabama's music since the 80s. It really takes me back. The vocals and harmonies were always so on point, no cringey "out of tune" moments. Back in the days when talent was required. The best!
My band opened for Alabama about the time this song came out. What a night we had. The guys were so nice to us and let us use all of their equipment at the gig. I got them all to autograph my guitar and I still have the guitar.
Mac McAnally is one of the greatest songwriters around! This song is just an example of his work. Many of his songs were recorded by Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Sawyer Brown and others. He has recorded many albums and was 10 times CMA musician of the year. He's an amazing talent!
this kind of country music ages like a classic car the older it is the more people want it ! these older songs are diamonds this shows real country music and the younger generation hear these older song most of them are like wow where has this been hiding and your grandma and grandpa was listening to it before it was cool these guys like Alabama , Hank jr., Merle Haggard , the list goes on remain popular because no matter who comes along no one will replace them or be any better they are the staple of country music
John, same. My late mom loved Alabama. She wanted to marry Randy, lol. These old Alabama songs bring me so much nostalgia and I cry every time I hear them. It's like a connection I'll always have with my mom through this music.
@@tiffanietx1 Lol. So did my mom! she was like I am Mrs. Owen to you! LMAO! I will always love Alabama and will make me think of my mom daily when I hear them. I miss her.
Yes, these guys were considered "pop country" back in the day. But their songs mainly came from the heart, or they told a story. They used real instruments instead of auto tune or computer generated drum beats. Just genuine country music with a dash of 80s pop mixed with it
They used synths on some of their songs in the mid to late 80s, like many country acts did at the time. They were considered equal pop and country in their heyday. If you listen to an album like "Just Us" you'll hear a lot of pop sounds. Great band nevertheless.
Amen! You can actually say the same thing about many other 80's country artists who got a lot of criticism for being too pop back then. As you said, their music at least still had heart and meaningful lyrics. I'll easily take Alabama and the rest of the 80's country greats over what's mostly on the radio nowadays.
I lost my love 30 years ago. I moved on as life would have it. I have been married 25 years and we have 3 wonderful children. I love my husband but iften times my heart aches for my old flame. It's not right or fair to him or us but what does one do when the heart doesn't ever really let go? My flame never went out and if ever we ran to each other, no doubt my eyes would give me away without even trying. 😭 I would hurt either way. Pride...a root of evil. We let go of people we love over pride and then long for them.
I thought this was going to be my theme song, I met the love of my life, we broke up for 4 years, I never got over him, fortunately I didn't have to. We get back together and stillngoing strong 36 years later.
Just a band that played in Myrtle Beach until they discovered 3 part harmony. That was genius and rocketed them to fame and success and they became one of the most popular groups in history.
They were known as Wild Country before they became Alabama.I remember when they used to play The Bowery in Myrtle Beach but I also remember when they played Chief's Lounge in Greenville SC..many years ago....
I work with adults with developmental disabilities and I have one individual who is the product of an unsuccessful at-home abortion attempt. He is mentally a 4 year old in a 40 year old, 6 foot 3 man's body. He is absolutely obsessed with Alabama and has me to play this song for him at least 10 times a day, every day. He rocks forward and back and shakes and wrings his hands as it plays, every time. This job can be a great test of patience, but seeing them enjoy something so much and helping them to enjoy what they can in such a cruel world is very fulfilling and makes it all worth the frustration.
That breaks my heart to think about. The world is a test in my opinion. If we can get through this test the reward on the other side is imfathomable. I'm paralyzed from the waist down since was 26 and I'm 33 now. I can't wait for this ride to be over. I know that sounds odd but it's the truth. I can tell that that mans reward on the otherside is far beyond what you can imagine. Also I think in a way that he is so lucky because of how happy this song makes him.
There will never be another ALABAMA. They are the greatest . I have had the privilege of attending Several of their concerts and I just had the best time.
Saw these guys in concert at the Ohio State Fair in 1984 I was 4 years old and jammed then. Been Rocking them since the 80s and I'm 43 now. Where has the times gone
I grew up listening to Alabama thanks to my dad, a big fan of the group and my mom, who has and has had a huge crush on Randy Owens since the 80s. I'm not sure if I heard more Alabama songs or more of my mom going on about Randy, but I enjoy listening to both for whatever reason lol

Funny, critics said Alabama wasn't country in the 80s. Now you're doing it to today's country. Think about it.

Love to see that us Alabama fans are still commenting on these wonderful old songs. Good never goes out of style.

They started singing in the late 70s
I'm 71 so yes, he could have heard them in highschool - since he probably graduated around 1981.
I started listening to them when I was 17. I’m now 53 and listen to them almost daily. Been to 13 of their concerts. Favorite band of all time!!
