The Avengers were disassembled following the events of Avengers: Endgame, with most of the team retired or dead. So who is going to be in the team featured in Kang Dynasty? In this video we break down the new team members, and what "avenger" even means.

Last summer, Marvel announced not one but TWO new Avengers films. Kang Dynasty will come out in 2025 and Secret Wars will come out in 2026-a year that SOUNDS futuristic but is like, three years away.
These films will wrap up MCU’s Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga, with Jonathan Majors playing the latest Big Bad, Kang the Conqueror. And… that’s about all we know about these movies, at least right now.
Obviously, both will be huge, epic blockbusters featuring most if not all of the MCU characters who’ve starred in Phase 4 movies and TV shows. Kang Dynasty might end on a cliffhanger, just as Infinity War led into Endgame. Those movies were also released a year apart.
But WHO will be the main characters of these films, and not just cameos or minor roles. Who will actually make up the titular Avengers? And will there even BE an actual group of superheroes called the “Avengers”? Or is “Avengers” now just a shorthand way for Marvel to describe their big crossover movies?
Fans are asking these questions because Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will be different from the Avengers films we’re used to. Tony Stark won’t be leading a team of the Original Six. Most, if not all of those characters probably won’t appear (and definitely won’t star) in these new movies.
Doug: Original Six? You mean, Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, and Baby Aaron?
Ryan: No, that’s the Oceanic Six from Lost. And also spoilers.
No, the original Six are of course Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. They were the original team in the first Avengers film and the first sequel, Age of Ultron. They were also part of the expanded team that went back in time in Avengers: Endgame.
Phase 1 of the MCU was all about setting up these characters and their epic team-up in the original Avengers film. Phase FOUR on the other hand was Marvel making a big push to move on from those original films and greatly expand the MCU’s roster of superheroes.
Tony and Natasha died in Endgame, and Steve Rogers retired. Maybe he wants to move to Florida. [CLIP: No I don’t think I will]
Clint also retired, before being dragged into the events of the Hawkeye series. So who from the remaining heroes of the Infinity Saga-and of all the new faces we’ve met in Phase 4 so far-are being set up to lead the storylines in Kang Dynasty?
Kang Dynasty’s director will be Shang-Chi director Daniel Daniel Cretton, and it would be kind of silly if he wasn’t reunited with Simu Liu. Even Liu thinks so, saying in an interview that he was excited to work with Cretton on the film.
But Shang-Chi makes a lot of sense storywise too. I’ve mentioned in a few videos how the Ten Rings seem connected to the quantumverse and whatever Kang’s plan is in the upcoming Quantumania film.
It’s likely the source of Shang-Chi’s power will either make him a target of Kang, or the perfect hero to stand against him. This is likely what the post-credits scene in Shang-Chi was setting up.
There, we see Wong introduce Shaun and Katy to Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner. The rings are emitting a beacon, presumably to their origin point. Carol says they’re not of alien origin-which doesn’t disqualify the quantumverse, which isn’t really her jurisdiction. Maybe just as importantly, Bruce says THIS to Shaun.
Obviously he’s implying that Shang-Chi’s world is about to get pretty crazy. But he could also be formally inviting him to join the Avengers. After all, the three Infinity saga characters in this scene were three of the heroes that survived the Snap and helped defeat Thanos.
In Endgame, Captain Marvel was seen reporting to Natasha, who was based out of the Avengers compound. While it’s not explicitly said, that’s probably because this was a meeting of the post-Snap Avengers lineup.
While we didn’t see Bruce or Wong in this meeting, Bruce was likely still a member of the team. Wong may have been busy as the new Sorcerer Supreme, but at the very least he was likely a close ally of the new Avengers.

See the original 8 (the Avengers were essentially a SHIELD team at first, so Fury, Hill and SHIELD were part of the "team") fought Loki who was fought off by Thor alone already in Thor's film. We knew the Avengers would win, but it was about the journey. If this post Endgame Avengers movie is going to win audiences over, Marvel is going to have to find a way to make all of these characters not only need to work together, but grow them as characters.
Why does Shang Chi want to follow Sam Wilson as Captain America? Tony was affected by the staff and projected his jealousy of Steve Rogers. when they got clear heads and HAD to work together to protect SHIELD and keep the helicarrier afloat, Tony saw that Steve was just kind of dumb (technologically) and human and Steve saw that Tony dived into a giant engine to save people. This was a character driven reason to continue to work together and respect each other.
Widowmaker (Overwatch reference, just ignore me) had a back history we didnt know with Hawkeye. Even to this day, it's hard to imagine a mercenary, held up in a vent for 3 days, with a sexy super spy would have a non-sexual, totally platonic friendship. But she worked very hard to save Clint from the brainwashing. That dedication gave her character nuance. Now, that Loki "I'm secretly not as scared, sad and offended as I'm pretending" scene has not aged well and is REALLY cringe, but even that gave insight into who she was. And then she did something.. admittedly kinda dumb..try to calm the Hulk. BUT that too showed the character was not perfect.
HONESTLY, my point is that Joss Whedon (despite his many, many flaws) did something great for superhero movies in that he tried to prove that none of them are perfect. He highlighted how human they all were.
-Cap: Kinda dumb and naive, despite being 100 years old, was still a 20-something kid from 1930's Brooklyn.
-Tony: Narcissist, presumptuous, cocky
-Thor: Pompous, arrogant, humbled by the bravery of Earthlings
-Hawkeye: Easily susceptible to manipulation, no personality (in the mcu), not a strategist
-Widow: distant, out of her depth, afraid of Thor, Loki, and Hulk but masking because she's a soldier
-Fury: Desperate to save his men and women, the Avengers, and new york,
-Hulk: literally a burden, guilt, only really responds in anger
-Hill: Distant from the team, might have turned on Fury if he was not so compotent, secretly working with the world council
All human, all relatable.
Thought I was past it, but I still get goosebumps every time Cap says “Avengers! assemble.”. The scene is still the single coolest thing I’ve ever seen on the movie screen. From the moment he straps his broken shield onto his badly injured arm and stands up to Thanos’ entire army, to the moment that they charge screaming towards the battlefield, I forget to breathe.

Well one thing a lot of people haven’t noticed in phase 4 with all the world-building for the Thunderbolts and Young Avengers are that they’ve now introduced all the main Avengers recruits from the 80s. Captain Marvel/Spectrum/Photon (Monica Rambeau), Starfox, Hercules, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Namor, even technically Mockingbird at the end of Hawkeye. I assume there will be multiple “Avengers” teams leading into Secret Wars.
yea i think with the wonder man announcement theres def a west coast avengers setting up with Shang Chi, She hulk, Wonderman eventually, maybe White Vision?
They are also setting up the Midnight Sons big time (Heck.. we know Blade is coming, so the remaining big member is Ghost Rider, especially after the Werewolf by night special introducing WBN, Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing).

I think the Rings and the bands and the bengals, and anything else similar we'll see, are weapons sent back in time by the Avengers (after their defeat) to eventually defeat Kang.

I cannot wait to see how Shang Chi would fare against Kang since he was able to counter the Ten Rings tech before ultimately wielding them.
Going by comic book standards Shang Chi would be dead long before he could do anything remotely considered damage on Kang.

If they learned anything from the comics, Kang will send the original Avengers lineup against whoever is the new Avengers. The OG team will decide that Kang sent the others against them and fight. The new teams have to deal with the fact that they are fighting against heroes whose deaths they have already grieved. Seeing Tony and Natasha alive is a gut punch to the new heroes and a shock to the audience. The OG Cap says Avengers Assemble and we have to cheer for the heroes fighting against our OG team. That's how Stan and Jack wrote it in the sixties and they didn't have dead heroes to contend with.

That's if Chris Hemsworth decides to carry on as Thor because the actor said he is unsure if he will carry on as Thor because Disney are taking the piss, Thor love and thunder Chris had to have a really extreme workout to make sure he was in shape and muscles big but Natalie Portman didn't have to work out as the used CGI to give her muscles.
I’m excited to see how the story arcs develop for each of the “new” Avengers.
I think they're going to do like they did in Infinity Ward and break the team's up I think Scott is going to be the leader of the West Coast avengers(She-Hulk, Hawkeye , White Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Shang Chi) While Captain America (Falcon)will be the leader of the New Avengers( Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil. Ironheart, Hulk,) Once they lose they'll assemble a whole team of the greats in the universe.
I'd love to see Wanda redeem herself by acting in a role similar to Dr Fate in the Justice League Unlimited series -- tries to remain detached from the world at large, only gets involved when absolutely necessary. Runs a little daycare in a pocket dimension for other pariahs, like Man-Thing and Werewolf by Night.

As far as I am concerned she is more evil than most other MCU villians. Thanos did what he did because he thought it would help the universe, he also had a brutal past.
Wanda wanted her imaginary friends back and decided on her own that the best way was for her to murder many good guys and allies for no good reason. Did she honestly think after she brutally murdered so many people that her new kids she stole would be like "I love you mom! You're the best, thanks for killing our true mother and many many heroes along the way just so you could have kids that look like the ones you imagined and had for like 2 weeks"
She's had 2 redemption arcs already.....once in Age of Ultron and the other in WandaVision lol It was all disregarded in Multiverse of Madness 🥴

They need to do some work on Carol Danvers. Her story character development in the story thus far isn't very compelling yet. Hoping they can amend this in the upcoming movies. Maybe they can give some flash back to make her solo movie more compelling than it is currently.
You know, I felt the same way after the first time I saw the movie, but having re-watched it a couple of times, I eventually came away with a pretty clear sense of who Carol Danvers is. I don't think she needs to be reworked so much as that the character who was defined in that movie needs to have the freedom to show the audience who she is. Between the amnesia and the Kree gaslighting, there wasn't much room for that in Captain Marvel. I do hope that the Marvels more clearly expresses who Carol is, because I really came to like the character from the first movie, once I got to know her.

True. Unfortunately, Jeremy Renner may never recover to a point that he can do action roles again going forward. Hoping for the best, but he suffered SERIOUS injuries in that accident. The kind that affect mobility and movement for life, even after 'full' recovery.

I think you're both right and wrong about Wanda. I think Wanda will be popping up once in Agatha, a few times in VisionQuest, MAYBE in Wonder Man, and if she's not in Kang Dynasty, she'll be a huge piece of Secret Wars, taking the role of Molecule Man as rumored by others OR she will do her duty as the Scarlet Witch to destroy the world in which she will remake the multiverse (did you make that video? I feel like I've seen this video on your channel or somewhere else). Wanda is WAY too powerful for Kang not to search for her.

By the looks of it, I'm sensing Ms. Marvel, She Hulk, and Shang Chi for sure. I know Sersi was an Avenger in the comics as well as Starfox, Blade didn't become an Avenger until 2013, and U.S. Agent, while in the Thunderbolts, was an Avenger in the 90s
I can imagine Bruce being the brains of the avengers, not someone who will fight but someone who could find a way to use kangs tech or someone brainy who could help the avengers defeat kang.

I would like to see an Isiah Bradley movie or series. They could even have Steve Rogers in it, set in the Korean War. Remember he said he took Winter Soldiers arm off. There is a story there.

Im definitely excited for these movies. We really need a movie to tie in all the recent standalone shows and movies that have been coming out, most of them have been good but they all feel so disconnected.
I agree with you that she knocked the character out of the park with She-Hulk. Considering what the story was. That was really the only lackluster thing about it. Really could have use better writing because of how all over place it was.

I was never a comic book guy or a big Super-Hero movie guy, but the MCU has been knocking it out of the park pretty consistently since 2008 and releasing many of my favourite films every year .
I rewatched orphan black again, and i was blown away AGAIN by Tatianas performances over those 5 years. Just absolutely mind blowing.
Biggest oversight in this video is the inevitable Thor-Loki reunion in the final battle against Kang!!!

the dynamic i really would like to see is kamala khan and america chavez. Like kate bishop and yelena i feel like they would bounce well off each other & similar to how cap and tony did in the beginning, kamala being the no filter annoying one looking for trouble and america being the more grounded of the two showing that her time in the kamar-taj really paid off. hopefully we see those two
Something I would love to see if Jeremy Renner is healthy enough in Secret Wars let us see the original 6 Avengers together again one last time.

Your videos are some of my favorite. Your videos are possibly the most in-depth analysis that I look forward to seeing. You do a great job at dissecting the underlying meanings in subtle things. I love that you keep personal politics,and emotions out of your assessments.( except when you went on that dr doom rant) Anyway, I would love to see you make a video where you actually call out the mistakes marvel has made (mostly recently) with savage honesty and no sugar-coating. You have the ability to dissect these movies, but you seem to avoid giving constructive criticism on certain projects and instead you focus on what little they got right. Is this just a personal decision to only put positivity into the world? Or are you, as big as you are, worried about being attacked by a twitter mob if you say the wrong thing? Or… are you, like me, just happy to view the pages of comics on the big screen even if they screw it up sometimes?
In that case, I really hope I warm up to Sam as Cap at some point. I do honestly love Mackie, he will just always be Falcon to me in the MCU. Damn you Evans for being perfect for the part!
To me he’s proved it, he’s his version of Cap and Chris will always be the OG but he wanted to hang it up. And Mackie is an amazing actor and his Cap has a very different fighting style so it’s still fresh and I believe he will warm to you in time. 👍🏼
Idk Cap is just steve rodgers to me and I can never unsee it, he is the heart of the team and Evans fully brings out the charm of Cap to us, I don’t know I think Captain America should have been retired and sam will just be falcon

That really _would_ be funny if characters from films and TV shows completely unrelated to the MCU just started popping up in the Marvel movies. It'd be like those "Portals But With EVERY HERO EVER" videos here on TH-cam. Kang starts bringing in people like Freddy Krueger and Hans Landa, so the Avengers go get Rambo and Marshal Dillon and Batman to help. And then it _really_ gets wild.
I think Thor would be in one of them and have it as his send off movie or maybe have him and Hercules in a movie with a different tone that blends humor and seriousness well and then give him a send off.

I love the idea of Kamala Khan being the audience's surrogate to the next "Avengers" movie and I hope she and the other Marvels knock it out of the park in "The Marvels" movie.

I get that some of them kinda were already, but Strange and Ant-Man were never really inducted on screen in any way. Like how Wanda and The Falcon were in age of Ultron, or Tony literally knighting Spider-Man in Infinity War.

You forgot that the Defenders could also be in The Kang Dynasty. Assuming Daredevil plays a key role in MCU Spider Man 4, Daredevil could introduce Spider Man to some of his friends, and I'm including the Punisher.

I feel like Midnight Sons is more likely than Defenders (But i do feel like Defenders will come eventually as well)... because we know Blade for example is coming and we already have a lot of members of the Midnight Sons introduced, with Strange, Wong, Scarlet Witch (Depending on what way they want to go with her), Moonknight, WBN, Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing, so the only major one that is missing at this point in time with Blade coming is Ghost Rider.
While for Defenders, the only ones we have so far, not counting Spidey, are Hulk, Strange, Namor, She-Hulk, Daredevil and America Chavez, but i think 3 out of those are gonna be Avengers members or on a different team altogether or simply attain a mentor role and not doing field work anymore, so realisticially, we only have Namor, She-Hulk and Daredevil.
The story I really want them to make with the fantastic 4 is as follows - a team from the 60s probably inspired by the super soldier serums goes on missions but then gets stuck in the quantum realm or something that would stop them aging. End of quantum mania they escape and then the movie explains how they got stuck in the first place
They've been setting up the Young Avengers, but there's been no mention of a team up movie. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ms. Marvel, America Chavez, Hawkeye (KB), Stature/Stinger, Patriot, Kid Loki, and maybe Speed/Wiccan be a second team that comes to aid in the Kang Dynasty.

Scarlet Witch needs to be in. She can really make amends for Madness. Dr. Strange would forgive her. Plus, she’s a serious threat to Kang. She’s a Nexus. That’s the last thing Kang would wanna face. Also, Spider-Man is a must. It be dumb if he’s not featured a lot.
I don't think Strange would forgive her, at least not immediately, considering she killed most of the sorcerers in cold blood. I think he would see the need to work with her to defeat Kang despite that.

Sam is definitely going to bring avengers together. Him and Brodie are the only ones still active in the military that have access to stark technology including the Avengers compound. And they are the only ones that will be able to get Avengers to work with the governments. I also hope Sam gets a full Vibranium suite cause right now he is way too vulnerable.

They could give him the super soldier serum for a start: as Full Fat Videos pointed out, having him duck out of a fight with Batroc, a man Cap defeated fairly comfortably, at the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier wasn't a good look. Maybe that's part of the story set-up for New World Order though.

I feel like if Spidey is in these movies (let’s pray he is) then I think he’ll have a more minor role in Kang Dynasty while I think his role could be bigger in Secret Wars, most likely recruiting Peter 2 and maybe 3 as well as getting the symbiotic like in the Secret Wars comics!

I believe thanos wasn't really expanded on until guardians of the galaxy since I think they didn't plan on him being the big bad yet (I think they planned to use him but not as a superior threat that destroys the avengers like in infinity war)
If Marvel Studios adapt half of the Kang comics story. We'll have a great movie. Based on the other past Avengers movie... Hopefully, they'll give this the proper story it deserves!
We might even see Dr. Doom and Kang in phase 6 of Secret Wars. Which will be an amazing story!

3. I feel like we will have modernize who ever is in the pipeline to come, cause our society is evolving and so should Marvel and their story writing. We won't see a Elon Musk as inspiration for geniuses but more or less someone we haven't even seen yet in the science community (in real life) as inspiration expressed through Marvels eyes so I'm really excited for any Avengers.

She-Hulk's CGI was awful. I'm sure she'll look much better in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, though. I like the character, but god, the visuals used for her Hulk form were difficult to watch..
All She Hulk has to do is go to KEVIN and have Kang rewritten. 🤣 this is cool spec and all but for now, phase 4 has really only set up Loki and Antman to be the things to watch.

I personally hope Anthony Mackies Captain America will lead the team alongside Thor. Hulk will take over the role of supplying new members with technology and such, being the scientist at home base. Ant-Man and Captain Marvel (maybe Photon) will be part of the team. Shang Chi will join the lineup, but Doctor Strange and Wong will only join when Kang established himself as the threat he is. Spiderman might join in to help, but no one recognises him. I don't suspect to see She-Hulk, Daredevil, Ms. Marvel or Moon Knight in the lineup. Neither White Vision, Wanda, the Eternals, Black Knight and Blade. But Hawkeye might show up and bring Kate Bishop along. I'm not sure, tho.
Edit: I totally forgot about Shuri. She will definitely be in there as the new Black Panther!

no, they did not. Jennifer Walters is supposed to be a loser; a booksmart, physically unassuming lawyer with very little self-confidence. Guys aren't interested in her and she didn't have friends. Then she becomes She-Hulk, this sexy, powerful, popular, funnier version of herself.
Where Bruce sees being Hulk as a curse, Jen sees She-Hulk as a blessing. If Hulk is the embodiment of anger, She-hulk is the embodiment of self-esteem, and much of the character nuance comes out of the fact that these two characters see their power as drastically different. Bruce wants to cure himself of the Hulk and transforming, while Jen lives her day-to-day life as She-Hulk, often refusing to transform back. The nudge-and-wink to the fact that She-Hulk by name is literally just a gender-bent hulk isn't also missed on the writers, and they took advantage of that in playing up this meta acknowledgement of the trend.
She's not only battling super villains, but also her own confidence and self worth.
The show doesn't explore any of this because she just has to be a girlboss at all times. She can only do right and they insert a supporting cast whose entire role is to call her awesome. She has no motivations, personal struggles, flaws, nor hints at development. She's a self-insert power fantasy of a weak writer.
Could her character be more fleshed out and explored in the wider cinematic universe? Certainly. But between the majority of old characters people care about being phased out and new ones being slotted in from shows that few have even seen, no one is excited for it.
You literally just described her character arc in the show. She gets fired, moves back home with her parents, finds out her dates are only using her to get with she-hulk and not jen, she's mocked on tv and on social media. She basically undergoes therapy for multiple episodes to come to terms with her new life and abilities. You say she only gets to girlboss but most of the series is her accepting that she's been screwing up her life almost the entire time?
I'm starting to think you didn't even watch it.

We probably get multiple teams by the time Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars drops.... like its kinda obvious they are setting up a Midnight Sons team with all the characters we have so far (Strange, Wong, Moonknight, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone). We know Blade is coming, so the only major member left is Ghost Rider and we can get another member, depending on what they are gonna do with Scarlet Witch and when the X-men become a thing, Wolverine, Niko Minoru and Magik are other possible inclusions for the team and depending on the MCU getting rights or negotitate with Sony, Morbius can be another inclusion as well.
And obviously, with the introduction of Namor, She-Hulk and Hercules, they can make a Defenders team being led by Daredevil as well.
I so want Yelena also to be a art of Avengers in place of Black Widow
