I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a video about the Samurai that isn't bullshit about them rolling over, how you jacked it up 6 feet off the ground and made it run on moonshine and country music, or just shitty pictures of other peoples rigs with even shittier music. Keep em coming boys

I love these things, a friend of mine has one and you are absolutely correct with how fun they are in traffic.

In India it has been sold as the Gypsy since 1986. I have one of model year 2005. 1.3 litre petrol fuel injection engine. 4WD. Does about 80-82 brake horsepower. It goes quite fast on empty highways - 120 kph. But it is at its best when on bad roads. It has been the rally vehicle of choice for most rally drivers here. And for the last 35 years the Indian Armed Forces, Police and Government Agencies have used this vehicle as a “staple”. It is easy to fix. mechanical. Cheap to run and maintain. And until now, there is no proper replacement available.

They are so easy to upgrade; the aftermarket support is great for those.

What it lacks in top end and low grunt.... This statement made me laugh. I kept thinking "it makes up for with hopes and dreams"
Seriously though I do think these things are neat. I've been working towards finding a CJ5 to pull the VIN from and build with a new frame and tub.

The leaky flange gasket/cracked exhaust manifold on that one makes it loud and poppy on the overrun

I recently bought one though mine is a turbodiesel xD. Also with some tinkering by my mechanic I'm closer to 80hp then 60 and even uphill on the the I reach 50mph.
No, I'm not in the US but in france and this little thing is a blast to drive. I love the sound of the differential whining beneath me and the turbo as well

Nice Samurai you have there. Those wheels are exceptionally clean! Your springs look like they might be a little worn out, though. I highly recommend a new set from ARB.

Locks the front wheels into dive mode via the transfer case and transmission. Unlocked front hubs means front wheels are free turning regardless of transmission/transfer case status.

Sales never even came close but the Samurai's popularity was definitely rocketing; setting records for any new Japanese model at the time. It was less than a decade after the second gas crisis with nightmares of fuel rationing still fresh in peoples minds and smaller, more fuel efficient cars were very attractive ~ Small (tiny?) 4x4s simply did not exist yet. Jeeps guzzled twice the gas and base prices were something like $3,000 apart (Samurai's started at like $5,000 and you could save money other ways like pulling a samurai behind a motor home vs a wrangler that weighed about a 1,000 lbs more). The samurai filled a void years before other automaker could catch up.
