    I’m sure you’ve tried it but if not “Hazy little thing IPA” Sierra Nevada brewing.
    Btw thanks Lee you’ve got me inspired just got my last product yesterday “3m heavy cut” JB tools for the dewalt 849 was $185. Glad I found you I was gonna sand!! 🍻
    Also a question for ya I have a fifth wheel that’s pretty new still super shiny what do you suggest for wax? And should I apply it the same as you do a boat? Thanks Lee

      Hi. Their Hazy is a good benchmark. They made a beer in their seasonal series called "wild hop", using neomexicanus hops. Best IPA I've ever had. More flavors than all my favorite beers combined. This was a limited run and it breaks my heart. I didn't like their "dank" lil' thing or some of the other 'lil' thing' beers as much.
      On to RV's.. If it looks good now, clean with Dawn dish soap and water and let dry. Apply Fire Glaze and love the results. Reapply it once a year after a clean and never see dullness again.
      As for sanding, I have a feeling you'll be happy you never got into it.
      That's a great deal on a new buffer. I hope you enjoy it!

    Love these videos. It’s hot and humid here in soflo. I can’t believe people are still wet sanding, doing correction on a 2018 32 seahunt, and it has burn through from the previous guy wet sanding that the owner hired. Not sure why even wet sanding such a newer crossed his mind. Anyways, I just wanted to ask a question on fire glaze for maintenance on my clients end. Should I recommend he add 303 as a topper every time he washes it? Are there any other synthetic waxes that should be applied after the initial application?

      Hi. I'll answer first so I don't forget.
      I like any soap that leaves behind a protective finish as a monthly maintenance program. Their Mirasol spray (not on non-skid, no matter how much fun it is afterwards wearing socks) 303 (although, as brought to my attention recently by a viewer, Armorall has a whole new recipe and offers more of the same good stuff that 303 uses, for a third the cost) Any spray detailer that is a polymer-based thing. Anything is better than nothing.
      Asking the developers of FG what to do, I was told to just keep things clean, use white vinagar and water. Upon hearing this I opted for a more modern approach. I could be wrong but if you get the surface to a high level of "nice," clean it well and apply FG as best we can, anything should be good.
      Left alone, it lasts as long as an Si02 "ceramic" so adding some love will be beneficial.
      As a detailer reapply it every year and don't worry about the owner forgetting now and then. @ this price, it's cheaper than a good lunch out. I'll donate for the cause to avoid grinding next time.
      Salt-a-way added to say turtle wax car soap, makes for a killer result as to longevity when washing any gelcoat. Even if you don't have salt water, this stuff leaves behind a protective polymer film behind as it dries. It isn't a "wax" it's just an added layer and that's better than nothing.
      All just my thoughts. I like making them dirty more so that's usually all I show.

    Do you ever use stark products and what do you think of them.

      In my limited experience with it, I found it not nearly as controllable on a pad or as consistent as 3M' stuff.
      Just my opinion.

      @@Local_Boydidgood thank you you have changed the game for me. I was told it wasn’t worth fixin my gel coat because it would cost a lot and be a lot of sanding and wet sanding to do so… just heavy cut and perfect it had it shining like new (minus any major gouges that need actually gel coat filler)

      Cool. I'm glad we saved another one from the junkyard. I'd appreciate if you'd spread the word, help the next owner. Please also, drive your boat to that shop. Don't tell them what you used, just tell them if they want to learn the secret, watch a few vids on youtube. Glad you get a shiny boat to play with now.
      Cheers,

    I’m starting to feel comfortable enough by watching your videos to tackle my boat. I also have an RV that needs attention. Which should I start first as a beginner and since I haven’t seen you do an RV, how would you approach it vs the boat? Thanks

      RV's have flat sides, learn how compound works there and then try the boat..

    Hey Lee, just trying to understand the steps and processes. I am used to doing automotive finishes but gelcoat is newish to me. Through reading the comments on the rest of your videos I have been able to answer most of my questions but I haven't been able to find why you don't use the DA for compound. Efficiency or just preference? Also, have you ever used the 3m medium or light cut compound on boats that are not super oxidized or do you just tend to jump straight into the EX-AC?

    • @Local_Boydidgood
      @Local_Boydidgood  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Compounds always work, while a combo product will only be perfect on boats in exactly the level of distress the product is intended for. Plus, mixing wax and compound is never the best of either world. The product you mention are for people trying to do this at home.
      As a car guy, I feel a DA and compound. On a boat: If you started today, I could walk to you before the DA did anything but put a gloss to a boat. A rotary will get you well past that in less than 3 minutes on most boats.
      Efficiency, I had over 200 boats to wax (per season) back in the day. A crew to manage and results to achieve.
      I use the stuff I do because it works not because I like 3M, I don't.

      A lot of times the 3m medium and light cut will hide the oxidation rather then completely cut it out. If I’d recommend anything since west marine has these supplies, it would be what Lee uses, 3m heavy, super duty, and for a foam pad step, it might be tough to find ex-ac, at least in soflo it is, so I would say try the 3m light or meguires #45. I don’t really use either so can’t vouch. EX-Ac might need to be ordered online, or picked up at a fiberglass shop.

    • @erichenderson5377
      @erichenderson5377 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the insight Matt. It makes sense to remove all of the oxidation and not hide any, I just don’t want to pull of more gel coat than I need to (my boat isn’t very oxidized but could still use a compound). But it seems like it would be smart to just get the heavy and ex ac and just run with a proven method. I may do a little testing with the ex ac before jumping into heavy. Thanks
