MY SPORTSTER 883 TO 1200 UPGRADE / S&S HOOLIGAN KIT / NEW ENGINE SOUND / HARLEY DAVIDSON

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 ก.ค. 2021
  • Finally after waiting all lockdowns I had an S&S 1200cc HOOLIGAN KIT INSTALLED ON MY SPORTSTER IRON 883.
    As well as a NEW CLUTCH and AIR FILTER!
    It was an incredible opportunity to watch my Sparrows heart surgery. To see inside the engine after I did 45000 MILES on it!
    Huge THANK YOU TO THE HOUSE OF THUNDER, for patiently answering all my questions and letting me run around with a cameras, often excited like a child!
    My REVIEW of the the bike performance and difference is later in a year. When I can run it properly after the 1000 miles run in.
    Thanks for watching, riders and not.

    on my 2012 I got rid of that spring plate too, the Barnett clutches are easy to work with.
    One thing I like about the rubber mount Sporties the primary cover bolts are all the same size.
    Back in the rigid mounts days a modified 883/1200 would outrun a stock 1200 off the line due to the lower gearing,
    if I remember in the USA the 883 had 27 tooth counter shaft sprocket and the 1200 had a 29 tooth, the HDI (Harley Davidson International) models had different gearing than those in the USA. Here in the USA they used to sell an "International" belt and drive pulley kit.
    But the stock 1200 would run away once it got rolling, it did have bigger valves and could rev to a higher rpm of course with the right parts you get the same results.
    Funny thing I never modified the engines on may 96, 02 and 2012 Sportsters. I had a 92 1200 and I bobbed the fender and messed it up, that was the time that the Movie Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro Man" came out" and a lot of us were modifying our bike to look like Mickey Rourke's bike.😆 Lucky for me the local Harley parts store had a few fenders and I was able to put my bike back to a rideable condition.

    You will notice around 500-550 miles that the engine will be more eager to rev freely; it is definitely worth the break-in time. WHen my conversion was done, I shifted into 2nd at 20mph, third at 30 mph, fourth at 40 mph and stayed away from fifth unless I was going downhill. You do not want to lug a Sportster in fifth gear, as that is quote hard on the bottom end. Best of luck with your NEW bike!

    • @chrislaws4785
      @chrislaws4785 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2nd at 20mph, 3rd at 30 and 4th at 40? What are you talking about? Sure, 1st gear is short, but in 2nd gear my 2022 Harley 48 1200 sportster doesn't even get into the 3000Rpm range until around 40Mph, which 3500Rpm is the "sweet spot" for my bike. Most of the time I'm just cruising around at like 60Mph in 3rd gear, hell if i go into 4th gear at that speed the bike actually feels like its lugging. I dont ever go into 5th until i hit like 70Mph.

      The way Harley designates performance upgrades they build on each other. Stage 1 is your air filter and new mufflers. Stage 2 is a new cam, the customer chooses whether they want to focus on low end torque or high revving horse power. Stage 3 is your cylinder bore and/or crank stroke, and bigger fuel injectors. Stage 4 (very rare on street bikes) is ported heads, and throttle body/ intake manifold.

    If you noticed the old pistons they had loads of blowby down past the rings this is becouse the engine was run in gentally for 500-1000 miles .... use a minerial oil and run them up and down the gears and revs for 20-30 miles then the rings are bedded in. Keep the oil in there for 100-200 miles then change to the usual oil. All the engines ive built i do the same bike engines only put oil on the skirt bore and ring pack dry .... i did this with a Suzuki DRZ using a 436 kit and it never used a drop of oil in 42000 miles. S&S do some nice kits bet it rides well with loads of grunt !

Wait the pistons were installed in the cylinders why did he take them out it’s so much easier to install them just push them down and attach the wrist pin I’ve done it this way twice already and it works mint. Plus I believe you paid to have them pre installed in the barrels.

    @11:50 I haven't got a workshop manual for a Harley - but the head bolts will be designed to be fitted wet or dry - if these are the dry type - by lubing the bolts as you did will cause over-torqueing of the bolt on reassembly. Similarly installing bolts dry when they are supposed to be wet will cause them to be under-torqued. It's not a "good idea" to lube critical bolts unless they are designed to be installed that way.

    • @tonykeast9966
      @tonykeast9966 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HD say oil the threads in their workshop manual. So it's a wet torque of 42 foot pounds, or 14ft-lbs plus 90°. So Dave the mech was dead on. The UK's salty roads need the lube on the bolts. A valid point but not on this application 👍

    Regarding your S&S filter, it’s not a cover protecting against rain, it’s the piece of plastic that makes your filter legal in Europe.
    Check S&S website and you will see that the regular Stealth air filter comes without this special ring. And S&S makes a rain sock for it.

    Nice bike, I really think the 883 with a 1200 kit is faster then an actual 1200 sportster 🤘🤘

    Nice bike and video! Would you please share how you got the remap, is it a Screaming eagle flashed to the ECU of the bike? Shall a separate module required for purchase for the remap or the guys did it from their laptop?

      It’s hanging now in my kitchen, me thinking what to do with it. My son confused it with a wall clock actually.
