You can watch him race next Friday at VIR for the National Championship. www.scca.com/articles/2012899-scca-com-to-broadcast-live-runoffs-action-online-from-vir
I love watching Brent tune. He is like the Bob Ross of tuning. "I'll just interpolate it for a nice linear curve... So the cam doesn't have to work too hard and is hunky dory make power and sing and be happy..." Truly an artist of tuning!
Check out jeff evans if you want to se a real artist. Than you tune every vtc angle for optimal fuel and timing, than overlay them and use that angle on every spot that makes the most power. Brent is just doing guesswork based on experience.
I love how Brent and Jamie on on the exact same wavelength, was cool to see you guys putting your combined experience into extracting the last few hp. Cool to see masters at work ;)
Jamie: "Got something up your sleeve?" Brent: "We'll see..." Jamie: "Ohhh, playing with _THOSE_ tables, huh?" I notice that you didn't show us that method boss. 😉 You just went all Colonel Sanders hiding the 11 herb & spice secret recipe for horsepower. 😂🤣
Hes gotta keep some things a secret boys. He needs to make a living. If everyone watching knows how to tune that's over 200k people that dont need him. Keep killing it brent!! Let's goo!!
@@BushWookie603 See the 🤣🤣 emojis? That indicates a joke comment. 🤦 Also, watching and making comments a year after the video was made...you're not really that much of a fan of Brent then are you? 🤔
As someone who is grown up since 3 years old in a family of shop owners. I have never come across or seen anyone as cool as Brett he is always just amazingly happy and just always super positive. ike the video on the boostedboiz where they make their first drive to the gas station and his hat flies off and Brett just runs out and gets it he's always cheery always happy just the best coolest person I think I've ever seen I only wish I lived closer so I could become friends with him. PS. and on a side note anytime any of his cars don't run good even if it's embarrassing to his own personal reputation he's always just laughed it off and never blames it on anyone in always just takes it like a man.
like when they get stumped or something weird happens and then next thing you see is everyone looking at it, between Brent, Jamie, Cotterpin and Shawn how many yrs of experience is there ?
You are one of my favorite Channels. You're very informative, but super chill about. You know your shit. I feel like I'm being taught by a homie in his garage over the weekend. I enjoy the content!
Looked like some close racing with the tire marks ahp down the driver's door! Love Brent's reaction to a tune that only gives a car 10 hp. Doesn't have to be a turbo drag car to get him excited as long as he had a part in it he's stoked!
I love it! Brent is like our internet papa, he teaches us how to tune, adjust valves, gap plugs... and how to be a class act! Edit; Jamie’s our fun uncle 🤙🏼
ive really been enjoying your "how-to" built within your videos. there is alot of people out there who dont have someone to teach them, forcing them to learn by trial and error, with you taking the extra time to show the last adjustments for instance is veryvalubale information to anyone out there who hasnt done it themselves. keep that up my guy.
I was rooting for 200hp the whole video. What a great way to see how a tune on a stock motor can make such a huge difference! The freedom to learn this is one thing but to be shown by such cool dudes is what really gives this channel and the shops customers a one up on everyone else!
I was hoping for over 200 also. I have the same setup. I know my tune is better then stock but could not be better then brents. He might be some kind of honda god.
I see exitment to his face even when he tunes a stock car the same as he tunes beasts. That's mean devotion and love to his work. Greetings from Greece bred take care
That’s awesome, my teacher peter schwartzott jr was my auto technician teacher he races for scca so did his father they are well known and him and his father are one of the best
This video gave me an idea that might make an interesting series for the channel or at least be interactive with the viewers. The idea is looking for power gains and losses in small changes that people with no experience can do such as comparing different fluids to see if they help or cost power. For example take a bone stock vehicle and compare the factory recommended oil to a high performance oil on the dyno to see how much power the oil actually frees up. Or comparing O.E. air filters to performance ones and stuff like that, You could call the series PFIXperiments and allow viewers to submit suggestions that they would like to see compared in future videos. Another great video by the way.
Awesome work pfi!! I love the passion and dedication you guys have in making informative and entertaining videos for your viewers. Absolutely rad!! A load bearing dyno for solid state tuning would have been great for cam angle tuning, but awesome results all the same!
Totally awesome video showing what sorts of things to try to eek out that last drop of power. Super cool to see what was tried and the effort expended on the fiddlier things. Woulda loved to see that last table as it sounded more raspy on that last pull but you gotta keep some secret sauce :) thanks for the ride :) your the reason i now own a jdm ep3 ctr down here in New Zealand :)
Glad to see u doing so good Brent. I’ve followed boostedboiz since the beginning and always thought that Brent dude is a cool mfer to let all these snot nosed kids come around his shop all the time. Now look at yall
Hey guys, The quality of the video is great and the editing style is easy for the viewer to watch. Well done on the tune, it's fascinating to watch. Regards, D
19:33 cant you check the speed signal in the ecu log? of course gear ratio settings must be accurate... but its easy to compare with the dyno speed reading
To tune cam angle I usually do a pull at 0*, 7*, 14*, 21* etc across the whole rev range until I’ve gone through the range of the cam advance. Each advance will give you a peak at a different RPM. Find the RPM for the peak for each cam angle. To build the WOT part of the table, tune the data points at the RPM where the peak power was the highest For a given angle, then interpolate between those data points.
i like seeing you tune these spec race cars, the amount of tuning it takes to find a few horses, people watch all the youtube monster hp cars , well yeah with a collection of correct parts, but without all those right parts mixed together it takes a bit for a seemingly small gain, but while pushing the car that 10 hp mid-range is gonna be felt.
Brent! Love the videos man. But if you put in clips of the after tune with ppl ripping for a few secs ones would make these videos that much better. I always watch the tune videos and when you’re done I want to see someone do a pull every time lol.
I’d loved to, but would have sat on the footage for a few weeks and may have seemed out of sequence . I def plan on an update . Appreciate the comment, I agree the action is awesome
I'd like to see how this runs this coming week at VIR for the Runoffs. While I'm not running in T4 myself, saw this car run at Indy in 2017. VIR is a power track so I'd say your tune will make a HUGE difference. Good stuff guys. Time for that K to put the hurt on those RX8s, Miatas, and BRZs
An actual 55mm throttle body with a nice smooth tapering down from the opening of the throttle body to the 55mm throttle plate would actually help out.
Turbo K24's are cool and all but this is the stuff that's really fun IMO. Finding advantages when there are rules and limits is way more fun than just throwing more boost at a car.

Hey Brent, have you ever activated V-Tec at engine idle speed just for fun? Out of curiosity I wonder what it would idle and sound like. Also could you give an example of cam lift and duration for the non V-Tec lobes vs. the same cams V-tec lobes?
should be a K20z1 if it's an 05+. Was it swapped? I spot an "RBC" on the timing chain gear hmm. Love your work and dedication. So much effort put into that stock engine to squeeze out a few extra hp!
I've watched this 4 times I just love these k series and 9k rpm is incredible!! So much room to choose whatever gear is best for the corner and speed. I would love to swap my d17 for a d16 or d15 and cam it for mid range and high rpm use. I would love to just turn the d17 up to about 7800 to 8k rpm I'd be happy but I cant find much support to build the bottom end for it. I should be able to use a d16 cam and rocker assembly with slight modifications
Peak hp is overrated...the "meat" of the power curve is where the action lives for usable performance... Seeing Brent/Jamie work for the gains is Pure Gold! 👍👍🍻
