Hi Dave. I'm looking to install a head unit on my mk5 golf 2006. I had a look at my current head unit (that I will be replacing as its the standard VW one) and noticed quite a lot of things going on in the background. I had noticed that that there is a Parrot Blue Box connected to the current head unit (through that big chunky connector that is behind the head unit i.e. quad lock connector). I think this is how my car Bluetooth mic works. I'm not sure if the new android head units (that I will buy) have built-in microphone and Bluetooth as standard. Also, that big chunky connector (on my current head unit) is connected to a few other connectors. So the question is if I can still do that 'plug n play' method of just disconnecting whatever is currently connected to my head-unit, and then connect it to the new android head unit. Since there is a parrot box, not sure how this will affect things.

The only thing. Anyone elses units start heating up quite a bit when using it? Maybe its just cause I had it on when the car was not running and it was downloading maps and over a 1000 songs on youtube music, but my one heated up at the back like mad
Over loading the system...phones get hot when running lots of apps and downloading stuff and the headunits are the same
3:20 when I disconnected this cable my radio turn off after 10 mins (when engine is running) and can’t turn it back on until I pull out key and start engine (or ignition) again. And then after 10 mins it turn off again. Any ideas please?
Only just seen you comment🙈 sounds like it's going into sleep mode. I would suggest running power directly from an ignition live fuse, fuse 4 is ignition live.
See this video for ignition live connection

What is that power wire called on EBAY? what amp rating should it be the one you ran around to the fuse box and connected to the piggy bank fuse. Is is the same wire as an amp wiring wire 1500w?
124362132166 ebay number....20 amp

Hi there mate, where are you based? I'm absolutely rubbish at this type of stuff and I originally paid a shop to wire up my stereo for my MK6, I've since bought a new cable with the same RAISE canbus as yours and was hoping you'd be able to give me a hand with getting it in? I could obviously pay you for your time, do let me know if it's something you'd consider - I previously had the shop put in the new wire but the steering wheel controls still didn't work and the unit didn't turn off so they put the old wire back in
I'm in Northern Ireland 🙈 would love to help but I guess you are not in Northern Ireland
@@whatsdavedone104 Just a tad too far unfortunately, I’m from the midlands in England
Email me rogersdave77@yahoo.co.uk and I will try and help over the weekend. I know why it's staying on and mfsw probably not working as canbus not set up correctly
@@whatsdavedone104 I’m now installing it for a friend for his MK5 R32. Is the top section difficult to get back in since it doesn’t seem to go back for some reason? The unit also has no sound currently, not sure why
Cut the cross bar off the radio surround, the top thin section. Don't know why it wouldn't have any sound 🤷♂️
Is there a way to connect the ignition switch wire without piggy backing it off from the fuse box?
Piggy back is the only and safest way to get the unit powered from ignition.
@@whatsdavedone104 Thanks for your reply!
What about steering buttons ? Do they run out of that black box ?
Black box is canbus box....mfsw should work with no extra wiring as long as canbus is set up correctly in the settings

Yes my gps works very well....is your gps antenna connected correctly? Where have you positioned your gps?
@@whatsdavedone104 it's connected at the back of the unit and the antenna ive put with the rest of the cables behind the unit. If it needs to be visible, where and how do I do that?

Hey there,
Recently bought a second hand 13 inch double din, plugged the harness but there are 3 loose wires black red yellow they guy said wire it to ur ac but nothing is working
Without seeing the unit and wires its difficult to say where they go....black will be a ground wire, red 12v constant and yellow is ignition 12v
Just got a similar unit from lightinthebox. I thought it would be straightforward. I connected the main harness and nothing! The unit won't power up. I'm struck. Either faulty harness or faulty Android unit... My head is wrecked! Any ideas. When I connect the main harness the unit should power on right? That's where the power supply comes from? Fuse is fine.
You also need to plug in the canbus box....the canbus box recognises actions of the car and sends signal to the car....so ignition on, canbus box tells headunit to turn on
@@whatsdavedone104 ah yes! The little black box. The bloody instructions said don't connect this.. nice 1
Yes connect the black box but disconnect the small black plug in wire harness...yellow and orange wires running through it....these are low power feed wires, when plugged in the headunit will remain constantly powered even with key out if ignition
@@whatsdavedone104 yeah there is a connector plug in the middle of a red and orange cables. I took the radio out and broke this link. Radio still powers on so think that should cut the constant power. Cheers mate

Followed instructions mate but I’m losing memory every time ignition goes off, and answers on switching red and yellow round??
Do you mean the time memory? Time and date are set via gps or hotspot whichever connect first...head unit should always do a full reboot, if it doesn't then its going to end up draining your car battery when not used 🤷♂️
Hello i installed the same device as you. I connected it with canbus, when the ignition goes down the device turn down. All seams to be normal. But after two days with no using of car at all, my New battery doesnt start the car. I suspected that i must have done sth wrong with the installation. What do you think could be the problem?
I had this issue...you need to power it from an ignition live fuse, see my last video I uploaded "how to hard wire android headunit"
Hello and thank you for your response. So all i have to do is to replace the fuse from the fuse box with a cable fuse and to connect it with the yellow cable from device. Where i can find this type of fuse?
Do you mean "where can I get a piggy back fuse" they are available on ebay, amazon etc
OK i will follow your advice. Do you think this is the reason why the battery draining?
What the working of that amplifier?
@Amritpal-i7v factory amplifier or aftermarket...amplifier needs powered from wire labeled "amp" on back of the unit
@whatsdavedone104 so will it amplify the sound or something else?
Thanks
@Amritpal-i7v A digital signal processor (DSP) is a specialized microprocessor chip, with its architecture optimized for the operational needs of digital signal processing.[1]: 104-107 [2] DSPs are fabricated on metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuit chips.[3][4] They are widely used in audio signal processing, telecommunications, digital image processing, radar, sonar and speech recognition systems, and in common consumer electronic devices such as mobile phones, disk drives and high-definition television (HDTV) products.[3]

hard wire android headunit to ignition live fuse golf 5…I watched this video, the battery is running out, is it helpful?
Did you use a multi meter to test the fuse was ignition live? The fuse layout in mk5's are different across the range....try fuse slot 2 as that is definitely ignition live

172302169810 8s the ebay number for the amplifier....there is actually a blue wire on back of the headunit label "pow ant" or something like that...you just connect the blue wire from amplifier to the blue wire on headunit....the amplifier needs 12v to operate which is where the blue wires come into play 👍

You need a dab booster and aerial for dab.....see link

Might be a silly question, but would that be the same as the amp booster that I already have behind the radio mate?
No, dab booster plugs into one of the usbs, you also need the aerial that sticks onto the windows, doesn't work off FM aerial

You will find a small black plug in the harness with a red and black wire, unplug the connector and screen will go off when key is removed from ignition
So by doing this are you saying that you don’t need to piggy back from the fuse box? You can just unplug that and the unit should just turn off and not drain battery? I’ve just got a ESSGOO for my 2006 mk5 golf, I’m now worrying if it will even work correctly straight from the box 😂 any help???
@fiction6572 you will suffer from battery drain as these units are designed around the mk6 canbus system not mk5....even with the small black plug unplugged
