I really appreciate how Dave shows a diagram (on the screen of his head unit) and then goes on to show his actual wiring throughout his vehicle, whereas many other post a video from a mock-up on a workbench and it isn't the same
Just installed the eonon supplied camera. The current VW12S-6G unit has a labeled red wire with the reverse camera written on it. So the purple wire isn't required any more. You can just connect the piggy back wire off the reverse cam to the red wire. Hook up the rca and away you go. I installed on the tail gate so throught the rubber wire fittings and then I used a strip of plastic to run the wire between the head liner and the roof. It worked perfectly and took all of two minuts to do the roof bit. When I went to look for the other end with the stip of plastic (yellow tongue) it had feed itself down the A piller. Took off the little triangle piece of trim at the end of the dash board and there was the end ready to feed across to the middle of the dash. All up about a 2 - 3 hour task. Getting the trim back on was the hardest job.

Hi Dave great video. I was wondering if by any chance I could connect my reverse camera on the reverse parking sensors box which is in the boot behind the trims. I got a golf mk5. Cheers
Hmmm I get the flickering image when engine is on but its fine when engine is off? Could it be because I've connected the power straight into the cable of the sensor box? I've already connected the ant cable in the front.
So basically, if the head unit has canbus decoder, there should be a cable where the camera can be powered from rather from rear tail light. Makes sense.
Could I do this with a Front camera? I no I can't use reverse gear method? also i have rear camera factory fitted. if so coul you point me to a site please
Hey Dave.. i’m just installing my new camera but the wires are slightly different. One end has the yellow input plug and splice, (stereo side) whereas the other end has both the red and yellow plug but an additional red and black cable this end near the camera end. Is it easier just to tap to the 12v cigarette lighter, or extend the cable all the way back to the head unit?
So i have the latest unit for my Golf R , VWA12S. Anyway, im up to the camera part and i cant for the life of me figure out these instructions! So what you're saying is dont follow their intructions. Just keep the camera at the rear and wire thru the yellow wire to the front. Then get a positive from the licence plate 12volt. Then i go and do the camera in and use the pig tail off it too the amp pigtail. (Do i need to connect the green wire back together with the othe red and blue?) Still confused about the last sentence? If i do all the pgitail wiring doesnt that give my camera the 12volt power or does it need to be powered from somewhere else?
All you need is a 12v ignition live supply to the red pig tail at camera end. Then plug the camera rca into the back of the head unit. Ymi wouldn't use number plate 12v as that is only powered when headlights are on. You can use the 12v charger port in boot or the rear wiper 12v ....blue and purple wire in rear passenger wheel arch.
I have a water meth system installed so I'd rather use the reverse wiper 12v. Also do you know what colour the mk6R positive wire is and do I need to ground the neg at the wipers or anywhere else. Thanks for for help
In the video it shows you wire the positive from the camera to the black wire and the, black wire to the purple wire. You say if U aire the purple with black stripe U get static. Can U please try and clear that last bit up. You've been a great help. So really the rear camera just needs a full time 12v and a negative? Nothing need to be connected at front except yellow wire as I have canbus.

@cb360cafe yes the reverse camera input is on a separate harness, also on that separate harness are 2 short wires, Bluetooth and WiFi antenna so you need it plugged in for those also 👍
Hello again Just to sum up yesterdays Q&A. I found the extra small harness with Cam-In connection in the bottom og the box 💀 installed it and the camera powers right up when in reverse - thats brilliant 👍 BUT the video signal is upside down - or rotated 180 degree if you like. I had to install the cam on the bottom of the numperplate frame, which is upside down? I have searched i YT and google intensively and can not find any solutions other than i see other people do this. But it is like i dont have any options to choose from in the menus. The control panel in Both; Normal settings and Factory settings menu is very limited opposed to what i can see on your scrren and others. I see that it is possible to change camera type, framerate, resolution aso. But i dont see these options anywhere? There is no buttons in the menu for setting up the reverse camera? Unit is Eonon UA12S Plus-6G and Camera Xtrons AHD Kamera CAM1080 1920x1080p. Any suggestions for this issue? Thanks Dave
I would start by checking all connections, makes sure camera has 12v using a multimeter. If camera has12v supply then camera itself could have failed 🤷♂️
@@whatsdavedone104 @whatdavedone104 So I’ve diagnosed the issue to be restarting the headunit. When I restart the headunit, the camera no longer gets power. When I reconnect the camera into the headunit when it’s on, it works again. Such a nightmare, not sure why this is happening? Like why does it not get power when the unit gets a cold start? Makes no sense.
@AN-ir6sr ok, I get you. Yeah if unit is cold booting the reverse signal isn't triggered unit the unit has full power. Lots of units have a "sleep mode" setting, so unit wint fully power down for a set period of time meaning reverse will show as soon as engine is started. On my Eonon units I have sleep mode set to 24 hours....unit will only do a full cold reboot after 24 hours

Hi dave, my backup camera has an inverted an inverted image. Very dangerous to reverse. Have you ever experience this? So what is left on the mage is right.
In the setting for reverse camera you can switch the view so it's not mirrored....which headunit are you using? Might be under canbus setting within factory settings
So i tried this method on my mk6 golf, they are 100% wired correctly but i still have no signal when reversing. The can bus detects that my gear is in reverse but again black background with no signal. I have gone into the settings and changed the camera type to AHD 720 25fps as it should be but still nothing. Any ideas? I have a android 12 stereo model 8227L.
Sorry its not worked for you, you could have a faulty camera 🤔 you could try wiring it the way I have in this video I will link. But thanks will try another camera and report back 👍
@whatsdavedone104 Wow thx for the fast reply. I am a little unsure how to do it properly. In the installation Video from your Cabriolet you used the 12V from the Power Socket in the back and drilled a hole in the car. Since i dont have a Cabriolet i just use that white plug (i dont know how to call that) to get the cable trough and everything else like in this Video except that my Radio should have an extra cabel to power the camera. Is that right so far? Again thx for your reply
Hi Mate, I just tried to attempt to do it but found a obstacle... Could you tell me where exactly you pulled your cables trough that white plug? I tought i could put the cables trough hat white plug undernath the car. There should be a empty space between the plastic bumper and the metallframe of the car. From there the cables go trough the hole/space from the numberplate light. Well that was what i saw in a installation Video from a German guy. My Problem is that i have zero space underneath the car. There is Aluminium Plate that covers everything till to the exhaust. I cant figure out, where the Cables go trough.

VWA13S 🤔 they don't make a VWA13S or do you mean VWA12S6g updates to Android13....another option is to un pin the pink wire to the canbus box, un pinning that the unit won't recognise that reverse has been selected.
@mrlimey2419 VWA13....unfortunately you can't fully turn off the reverse camera on VWA13, de pin the pin wire from canbus box and to should be good...or you can just cut the pink wire
The only wires that need connecting are at head unit end. I also have a video of a different way to wire a reverse camera, which again doesn't involve going to the reverse bulb, instead I use the 12v cig port in the boot th-cam.com/video/6S_1cdofC-0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Gx6h3SxVSSfh8ERq
Or another option is to add a reverse camera dc filter to your existing setup, this goes between the wires from reverse bulb to reverse camera wires amzn.to/3POHVon
Units that have "reverse" or "back" need a trigger wire connection as they don't have a canbus box that tells the unit when reverse is engaged....no canbus box then trigger needs connection to reverse bulb and reverse wire on back of unit
My camera is getting the 12v (and lights up), it is wired exactly the same as you but with the yellow input for the android (I also tried with the rear purple and black cable and that also powered it) but there is no evidence on the head unit that anything is working? When you go in reverse nothing happens, if I specifically go onto the app where it should show it just says no signal / not even sure if it recognises anything The yellow cable is uninterrupted and goes to camera-in The rest of the unit is wired up correctly and working so I just don't know what's not working:/
There is no app specifically for reverse camera...there is an app for AVin. Are you sure you have the reverse camera plugged into the correct yellow rca input🤔
@@whatsdavedone104 yeah that's the app I was referring to, it's plugged into the camera-in, but I have tried both other yellow visual inputs that I can see and the result is the same At this point beginning to think that the camera itself is the problem, as it's clearly getting power but not outputting anything - I'd like to try to test it but I don't have anything else that it could plug into
Go back to wiringbit to black/purple and use the ground wire to brown. If its still not working then I would say its a camera issue...is your rear wiper working? Purple and black is 12v from rear wiper. Do you have a 12v socket in boot? You could also try using that for power and ground

Unfortunately the leds do stay on permanently. The leds are pointless....2 options, cover the leds with black electrical tape or use a IR camera. I only use IR cameras because you get a clearer picture when dark.
With my stereo when you select reverse it doesn’t take over the screen is there somthing I need to do to make it take over there’s nothing in the settings about it I’ve wired up all the camera the same way as you but like I say when I select reverse nothing happens on the screen, does the canbus box tell it I’m on reverse, as that’s working because my steering wheel controls work it also tells me when doors are open and hand breaks on etc so it must be working what am I missing here so annoying lol

l will try this i have a jusun and off some videos it says I have to change video cam settings do u know about that Dave. I did try a power supply direct from the battery terminal instead it didn't work but will try yr way
On the Eonon units I know you have to change the camera type, to do this you tap the screen, when in reverse view, and from there you can change camera type and res of camera
I will try it tomorrow Dave I've never tried it with the engine running should that make any difference. NB I have done a head unit on a transit and a small skoda never had this much mither
@kerrybeardmore9481 maybe the Jusun unit is the issue or the camera is faulty.....running power direct from battery should display the camera on screen 🤔
I have two camera's one worked but was snowie with no engine running when I changed cam nothing happened so I changed formatt then it all went down hill I think it could be the head unit . I thought a constant straight power supply would give a pure 12v reading it didn't
So. Connecting the red wire of the rear camera to the blue wire of the antenna means that the camera is permanently powered (if ignition is on). That's it? In order to power it only when we need it, I think it would be better to connect with the "reverse" wire. No?
Yes the camera is powered when ignition is on yes. As long as your head unit is canbus operated then you only get rear view when reverse is engaged. I use infrared camera, no LEDs, if you wish to go to reverse bulb the that's fine but on a VW Golf its a massive pain as the reverse bulb is in the boot lid so lots of plastics need removing, lengthening wires, feeding wires through grommets etc.
@@whatsdavedone104 Do you think it will work if I took the power from the "reverse/back" wire going from the canbus decoder to the head unit with a 3 slots wago connector?

The only problem is my reverse light stays on constantly even with the ignition off and the key out. Is there any other way to connect it pls?
The yellow wire you have connected to its staying live after ignition is off, so it's sending power to the reverse bulb. I found with mine that the reverse camera wouldn't start immediately, when connected to the blue ANT wire, would start working after around 5-8 seconds. Another option is extent the wire and run it to a fuse on top row in fuse box, these are all ignition live only fuses
All android units have different software and settings. It will be in settings somewhere, possibly under canbus settings....look for something along lines of "reverse mirror"

What headunit? How is your reverse camera wired? Does your head unit have a canbus box or does it have a trigger wire to reverse bulb? If you have a canbus box you don't need to wire to reverse bulb, you just need a 12v ignition live connection

Yes I learn the long way after installing a few reverse cameras . I found when the engine running get interference if connected to the reversing light . Can put a in line smoother capacitor in , that get rid of the interference well most of it . But the Acc on the head unit hasn’t much current ok for one camera if running a separate monitor off it will need a relay or anther power .

Not a fan of the cameras that replace number plate lights, but the wiring from camera is the same, just needs a 12v input. If you go directly to reverse bulb is not a 12v input when engine is running, it drop to below 12v and camera will not work
Hi. I have a b6 paasat variant, and I watched how it's attached to the brown wire, but still no signal. But the lights on the camera come on. If I connect the wires like in this video is there a chance it could work on my android system?
I was thinking that as well. The ground is the easy part, just attach it to the frame somewhere. You can probably find a ground point and bolt already near the camera

Do you have a red pig tail at headunit end of reverse camera wiring? Connect the red wire to "rev 12v" wire on back of the unit.
Hey Dave.. i’m just installing my new camera but the wires are slightly different. One end has the yellow input plug and splice, (stereo side) whereas the other end has both the red and yellow plug but an additional red and black cable this end near the camera end.

@cb360cafe yes the reverse camera input is on a separate harness, also on that separate harness are 2 short wires, Bluetooth and WiFi antenna so you need it plugged in for those also 👍
Hello again
Just to sum up yesterdays Q&A.

Amazing video mate but my cam’s suddenly lost power, it was working perfectly at the start. Not sure why? Cables are all connected as before.
I would start by checking all connections, makes sure camera has 12v using a multimeter. If camera has12v supply then camera itself could have failed 🤷♂️

So I’ve diagnosed the issue to be restarting the headunit.
@@whatsdavedone104 wouldn’t that affect battery life though? And once it does reboot after 24 hours, cam is gone again? Unsure how when I reconnect cam powers up again though. Feels like I’ll have to go traditional wiring on this one :/

Yes the camera is powered when ignition is on yes. As long as your head unit is canbus operated then you only get rear view when reverse is engaged. When I put my car into reverse, nothing happens 🙃. The canbus is not recognizing that I'm in reverse. However, my reverse fuse blows. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
What headunit? How is your reverse camera wired? Does your head unit have a canbus box or does it have a trigger wire to reverse bulb?
If you have a canbus box you don't need to wire to reverse bulb, you just need a 12v ignition live connection
Do you have to tap into the reverse cable too?
No, just need 12v to camera if your unit has a canbus box
Thanks a lot man👍
Will it not catch fire if it's not grounded
It actually has 2 ground wire....the actually RCA connector has a ground as well as a separate ground wire.
Hello dave, my reverse camera stays always on, how do i fix it mk 6
Is your reverse light constantly on?
I had the same issue and had to replace the gear box reverse switch....see this video

@whatsdavedone104 no, my reverse light is fine.
@10aviran how have you wired your reverse camera, where are you getting power from?
@@whatsdavedone104 getting power from the ant wire
Which headunit are you running🤔 does it have a canbus box?
If you don't have a canbus box you need to wire directly to reverse bulb
Yes I learn the long way after installing a few reverse cameras .
I found when the engine running get interference if connected to the reversing light . Can put a in line smoother capacitor in , that get rid of the interference well most of it .
But the Acc on the head unit hasn’t much current ok for one camera if running a separate monitor off it will need a relay or anther power .
I have to put mines on to my number plate light bro, is this still the same 🙄😬
Yes it's still the same. Position of camera makes no difference to the wiring.
Or you can wire it this way

Thanks bro, I wired mines on Friday but was getting no signal when in reverse, the next day I was getting just reversing lines on the system, I didn't want to snip my number plate wires right enough, im not to handy at this stuff to be fair 😬👍
Not a fan of the cameras that replace number plate lights, but the wiring from camera is the same, just needs a 12v input. If you go directly to reverse bulb is not a 12v input when engine is running, it drop to below 12v and camera will not work
Thanks for all the help people 💚🏴😉
Hi. I have a b6 paasat variant, and I watched how it's attached to the brown wire, but still no signal. But the lights on the camera come on. If I connect the wires like in this video is there a chance it could work on my android system?
And also the colors are the same, but on them it says AUTO ANT and on the other cable KEYS
Auto ant is the fm booster signal wire. Yes this should work on all android units as long as you are running a canbus box
@@whatsdavedone104 What about the other cable that says KEYS
@@whatsdavedone104 I do have a canbus
Ignore the keys wire...its a generic harness. Keys is for units not running a canbus box, keys wire is to connect to a multi function steering wheel.
I would never ground my camera through the RCA.
I was thinking that as well. The ground is the easy part, just attach it to the frame somewhere. You can probably find a ground point and bolt already near the camera
Can you show front camera
What do you mean "can I show front camera?" I have got a couple of videos on my channel involving front camera wiring
@@whatsdavedone104 yes please if you can show wiring the front camera bc I haven’t seen in your channel

Or just ask here and I will help of I can
i send u email 👌
Just wired mine to the blue wire behind the head unit.. and I get 8very blurry and fuzzy pictures that you can't define anything on.....
You mentioned interference....
I also have aftermarket rear sensors coming off the same reverse light feed ... is it possthat this is causing the interference?
Which brand if headunit? On my Eonon unit, when on reverse view, I had to tap the screen, go to setting and change the camera type to PAL
@@whatsdavedone104 I've just found another video and done exactly thst..... and low and behold.... a clear picture
Thanks for your reply..... greatly appreciated.....
i follow this step, but now the airbag fault light just came on dash..how is this happen?
I don't know 😕 what car have you installed the camera in?
Backup camera worked great for a month. Then I got no signal on my screen
Have you checked all the connection? It's either a wiring issue or camera issue 🤷
Backup camera working for months then
Thanks you
What is player name and make
In this video it was a pumkin unit, but I now use Eonon VWA12S6G

I think ANT = antenne
Yes ANT is antenna
I love how your brain went into reset mode when you put the car in reverse and nothing happened, Do you still think that you are smarter than them now? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel it is never going to happen!
Nothing happened when "I put it in reverse" because I had put the car into 1st gear...not reverse 🤷♂️
Can u give me your email to ask u something?
I have left my email for you on other video you commented on
I installed mine last weekend now my airbag light is on. Any ideas. Did I loosen a wire or some thing silly
