Also, it's clear that Christopher is a very strict ballet master and demands only the very best, yet he's never disrespectful towards the dancers. That's a great thing to see.
That’s a very good teacher cause the dancers will be better without feeling defeated or frustrated. the dancers will strive for almost perfection because of his strictness.
IKR it takes a lot to repeat the piece over and over and each time play just as wonderfully, and to refrain from speeding up just from sheer enthusiasm.
Exact same here! Mayara's musicality and delicate strength have me mesmerized, thus, continually revisiting her RB live rehearsals...adore her in classical roles just as much as I love her in McGregor/Wheeldon works...a rare talent indeed! Brava!
Oh how I love these videos. I am a middle aged oncology nurse living in a gritty American city with two sons struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. Watching the glorious artistry of the RB transports me into a world of beauty. Thank You.
Karen Katz, that’s why the Arts are so important. God Bless you, and all the people you serve each day. I hope the best for you and your sons in the future.👩👦👦♥️
I can relate. My sons struggle too. Some days are very difficult and watching beautiful ballet can be transporting. I hope your sons are doing better now. ❤️
Looks like Mayara Magri really has gotten the admiration of the audience, and it's well deserved. She's one of my favorite dancers too and wish to watch her new promotion as well.
Absolutely wonderful. Mayara is really living up to the amazing potential that we all saw in her when she won Prix de Lausanne. And Tierney has a wonderful amplitude and clarity to her dancing as well. It's very moving to watching them work so hard and so beautifully. Also it's cute to hear Mayara with her lovely British accent! Beatriz is lovely as always.
I remember seeing Mayara on television when she was still a teenager. The tv networks here in Brazil all praised her for being one of the country's rising stars. It's incredible to see how much she's improved - she still has a bright future ahead!
Watching this makes me realize, yet again, how much I miss Beatriz. She is such a beautiful ballerina. I'm so happy for her that she is enjoying her time at Stanford University but, from a selfish point of view, ballet life has never been quite the same without her!
Wow, just in the first few seconds of the dance the director noticed so many minuscule errors. Such attention to detail and SO much more is involved in dance than meets the eye!! This is fantastic. Huge respect to any dancer.
My brother-in-law used to be a répétiteur for the Royal Ballet at White Lodge. I never had the opportunity to see or listen to him in that role, but I do know how fantastic he was at playing piano and he would just sit down and "rattle off" all styles of music at the drop of a hat. Brilliant.
the pianists never get the true credit they deserve. i mean, sometimes but really! imagine being that talented and being able to jump in at any moment, playing such classical music so beautifully, able to adjust the tempo if needed.. takes many years of hard work and serious dedication. i did en pointe for several years, i started dancing at 2 or 3 in ballet & tap and man, i miss it. wish i pursued being a full time ballet student. i decided on college instead, lmao but i always was blown away by the pianists (when we had a live orchestra)
They are both such exquisite dancers, and when he gives them these subtle corrections, it makes their dancing brilliant. It's very impressive to watch a rehearsal.
Christopher Saunders is always so wonderful! So are the dancers, of course! I was there virtually while it was live and definitely going to rewatch it again!
I feel like Mayara will be promoted to Principal very soon. She has that leading lady quality, and she's improving each time I see her. I'm so proud of her!
I noticed that I didn't mention in my first comment how wonderful Beatriz Stix-Brunell is. I really love her... Hopefully she will become a principal soon :)
I love how all the comments are all love comments not hate comments. Also, these dancers are so beautiful and are really good. Chris is such a great choreographer and Craig is a wonderful pianist.
It’s 1am PST in Washington state. I’m in bed ... a perfect place to be watching these rehearsals. I love hearing the directions by the Director because I get a real sense of what the dancers are doing .... it puts me in their shoes.
I'm glad to finally see Mayara Magri in rehearsal! I'm sure it isn't easy to rehearse in front of an audience, but she did very well. I've been following Mayara since the Prix de Lausanne and from the first time I have this strong impression she's got that something special, even though she isn't perfect. Really hope to see her becoming a principal soon!
Me too! I agree that she's not perfect, mostly with her arms, but she's got that 'angel' in her presence and already a very high technical level and a natural musicality. All these can only lead to a Principal Dancer.
More Mayara Magri please!!!! She is exquisite. It has been great to see her journey from Prix de Lausanne to becoming a world-class dancer. She is a super star!
I love the differences between Maya and Tierney... both are splendid in their own way...yet each have their own sense of movement... while Mayara is like a ray of sunshine and warmth, Tierney has this glass like, almost icy like presence and quality to her movement...amazing. really... ❤❤❤
Btw, I'd absolutely HATE having to rehearse in front of an audience (both small in studio, and large on the internet), and have to stand there to be corrected in front of all those eyes. I cannot fathom how they manage it. It would unnerve me greatly. I know they're used to an audience, but not during rehearsal.
Musicians have it the same in masterclasses or interpretations. It’s very nerve wracking and you do feel incredibly judged by everyone, but you often learn faster and you get the reaction from the audience immediately, so there’s reward for the hard work, also for dancers
MsBabbi When I used to dance, auditioning was super scary, but also kind of exciting. I don't know if it would be the same after getting the role, but still having to perfect it in front of an audience. It seems the reward would be during the actual performance rather than during rehearsal. Regardless, they have to have nerves of steel!
SmittenKitten when you get applause from the audience or praise by the teacher, that’s reward, even if it’s in rehearsal. You remember what you get credit for or when you’re scolded and that’s what you bring to the performance later
MsBabbi Oh, I totally agree about it being rewarding when an instructor praises you, it's the corrections that would be somewhat daunting to take in front of an audience! I never minded being corrected (as it helps you become better), but corrections in front of an audience would have been quite difficult for me. As you understand, the actual performances are the culmination of countless hours working, correcting, blocking, etc., which the audience is generally not privy to, and to have them see a glimpse of it is great for them, but could be difficult for the performer, at least during said situations. I'm sure some performers really thrive on that sort of energy, but for those that don't (which I'd wager would be a greater number than those who DO enjoy it), it would be irritating.
Excellent! He is a great coach and these two beautiful ladies completely understand the corrections. No egos. Just pure technicalities still allowing their own interpretations.
I’m glad Chris is being strict with Mayara’s port de bras. She’s a lovely spirited dancer, and still needs to acquire the trademark understated elegant Royal Ballet port de bras.
Heh
This is first time to watch such a great lesson ... and it is much better than watching actual performance ... now i i can understand more about ballet too ~~~
I LOVE those long uploads of rehearsals, but please some diversity, it must be like the 4th Nutcracker one.. more MacMillan? Hour(s) long reharseals for... Gamzatti 4th act variation? Onegin last pdd?? etc etc Plus, more Osipova and Nunez please
2.5 years ago. 25 25 17. Private. When jetais tres decent..the nutcracker w sal and the kids 12 25 1973..the sweetest joy..wish memories..the sweet innocence of childhood joy

The pianist needs his own shoutout❤️
I love when I come to these videos ostensibly about ballet and find people saluting the pianists. They DO deserve great praise.
IKR it takes a lot to repeat the piece over and over and each time play just as wonderfully, and to refrain from speeding up just from sheer enthusiasm.
Mayara is gorgeous; so lyrical and her musicality is wonderful. She's very watchable.
Was lucky enough to see Mayara in Coppelia last December. She was magical!!
Mayara Magri has quickly become one of my absolute favourite dancers! I just adore her 💗
Mayara is stunning truly beautiful to watch.
who doesn’t? look at how beautiful she is, I mean... her emotion reminds me of marianela...
i remember watching all of her YAGP and prix de lausanne videos a couple of years back...i had no idea that she ended up here!!
Ballet Fan she is brazilian (ela é brasileira)
Exact same here! Mayara's musicality and delicate strength have me mesmerized, thus, continually revisiting her RB live rehearsals...adore her in classical roles just as much as I love her in McGregor/Wheeldon works...a rare talent indeed! Brava!

Ballet is a therapy for sure. Keep up with it!!!!
Karen Katz, that’s why the Arts are so important. God Bless you, and all the people you serve each day. I hope the best for you and your sons in the future.👩👦👦♥️
Karen Katz - Lovely sentiment. I’m in a similar situation & this really puts you in a calm frame of mind.❤️
I can relate. My sons struggle too. Some days are very difficult and watching beautiful ballet can be transporting. I hope your sons are doing better now. ❤️
It's a couple years but I hope you and your family have had good health and a happy life. Someone in England wishing you well 🌹
Looks like Mayara Magri really has gotten the admiration of the audience, and it's well deserved. She's one of my favorite dancers too and wish to watch her new promotion as well.
Saw her dance in Coppelia - she was BRILLIANT!!
Today she is first ballerina
@@nicolly3346 she's just been appointed principal beginning next season!!!!

Beatriz is a rare talent. She is just gorgeous.. Beautiful lines, strong technique.. Love her.
Yes ! And my favorite Alice in that Christopher Wheeldon rehearsal.
Watching this makes me realize, yet again, how much I miss Beatriz. She is such a beautiful ballerina. I'm so happy for her that she is enjoying her time at Stanford University but, from a selfish point of view, ballet life has never been quite the same without her!
I'm glad I'm not the only one 🥹❤️
The pianist sounds absolutely wonderful. He’s a treat in of itself.
Wow, just in the first few seconds of the dance the director noticed so many minuscule errors. Such attention to detail and SO much more is involved in dance than meets the eye!! This is fantastic. Huge respect to any dancer.

So proud of Mayara! A beautiful brazilian dancer, she's got a bright career ahead of her
Never in doubt! She was amazing in Coppelia - a brilliant dancer!

And you were right!!! I am so glad for her
I love christopher. He is kind and caring, but also disciplinary
I noticed that I didn't mention in my first comment how wonderful Beatriz Stix-Brunell is. I really love her... Hopefully she will become a principal soon :)
I love Tierney so much😍 she’s such a great dancer 💜
So great to see Myara here. I've been following her since the Pris de Lausanne. She always performs with such joy, wonderful :)
Same here. I was so happy having been able to watch her in a soloist role at last!!!!!
Ahh Tierney is just so good! 🌟
I love how all the comments are all love comments not hate comments. Also, these dancers are so beautiful and are really good. Chris is such a great choreographer and Craig is a wonderful pianist.
It's June, I don't care. I love Nutcracker-It's a need for me.
I find watching rehearsals and classes more interesting than watching the actual ballet.

you can't even describe Mayara's performance with words! Fantastic!
My God, The Royal Ballet is pure joy.
One word: BEAUTIFUL! I love this!! Keep doing them Royal Opera House!
Honestly, Tierney´s "one by one" variation of the waltz of the flowers was INSANELY beautiful.
More Mayara Magri please!!!! She is exquisite. It has been great to see her journey from Prix de Lausanne to becoming a world-class dancer. She is a super star!
Thank you Christopher and amazing dancers for these wonderful insights! Keep them coming!
Both dancers are so very talented and he really trains them to give of their best. Superb.
made these ladies train till they were completely drenched
"Doing something that keeps you alive, can also help you dance" referring to breathing...lol
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Stunning beauty!
Lovely coach, really nice! All I ever see is them screaming at their dancers, but this man is amazing, he gets the best out of them
The mark of a truly great instructor, is when they say do something over again, and you’re happy to do it.
I love the differences between Maya and Tierney... both are splendid in their own way...yet each have their own sense of movement... while Mayara is like a ray of sunshine and warmth, Tierney has this glass like, almost icy like presence and quality to her movement...amazing. really... ❤❤❤
Wow they work so hard to make it look beautiful and effortless for us... I will always be in awe of ballerinas 😊
I was not impressed. Sorry.
Orgulhoso!!! Esse é o sentimento!!!! Beautiful and dear Mayara Magri.
Love it. They work so hard. Amazing precision.
Great coacher and dancers and great musician!
it was great to see some of the rehearsals and behind the scenes, it's excellent to see that even the professionals get corrected quite a lot :)
Btw, I'd absolutely HATE having to rehearse in front of an audience (both small in studio, and large on the internet), and have to stand there to be corrected in front of all those eyes. Wow, incredible, beautiful Mayara!
Love Christopher Saunders!

I’m glad Chris is being strict with Mayara’s port de bras. She’s a lovely spirited dancer, and still needs to acquire the trademark understated elegant Royal Ballet port de bras.
I’m holding my breath during every one of their manèges. It’s nerve-wracking to watch.
It's lovely to see Mayara dancing. I hope to see her becoming a principal yet.

Ever since I got the role of Clara I have been watching other people's nutcracker's.
Eeep it's Zeb Soans! did recognise him, good to see him, & hope to see more of him
Absolutely wonderful. Christopher Saunders is so generous and precise with the dancers.
Heh
Mayara slaysss! So proud of her 😍

Que linda Mayara falando inglês!!! ❤❤❤
Please add more cinemas in the United States. It would be a five hour drive each way for me to get to the nearest cinema.
crenner07 they don’t broadcast the performances in Brazil.
Camila Santos Machado That’s awful! Brazil is such a massive country!
I like the way he gives corrections but still praise
That is the key to great teaching, not only in ballet.
My ballet teacher is from The royal ballet he was drosselmeyer in the one in 1995. It's on youtube.
Could you please upload more videos in which Mayara appears? She's fantastic! Thanks ROH-
I want to play the piano like Craig!!!

Verdade. Eu percebi isso também Maria Eduarda. Mesmo eu não entendendo o inglês dá para perceber que ele sempre elogia e corrige.
Brilliance from Mayara. What dates is she dancing this?
Linda Mayara !! Saúde e mais sucesso!!!!
