i bought a pickering V 15 around 5 months ago, thanks to your comparison against the Stanton 500. i love it. it is on a Garrard AP 96 with wooden pick up arm . keep the comparisons coming.. there is nothing else on youtube like your channel
It's a moving Iron (Pickering) against a moving magnet (Ortofon) There is no way you can compare the sound between those two. The Pickering has a much higher output wich make it ideal for radio broadcast or transcription. The Ortofon is more used as home used cardridge. For me, I like the V-15 better but only with a conical stylus, it does not ride as deep as an elliptical and does less pronounce the surface noise, pops and clicks as I prefer spinning 45's.
I believe this Pickering V-15 model is a moving magnet cartridge. It shares its internals with the Stanton 500 series cartridges. The moving iron cartridges came out later.
the pickering wasnt a broadcast cartridge.or moving Iron Though it may have been used as it sounds great . i imagine on an old Russco, Gates etc it would sing its heart out

Pickering has presence and liveliness that Ortofon lacks. By comparison, Ortofon sounds like from the room next door with a curtain between rooms.
The recording level on the Ortofon system is set 3dB lower. Unfortunately, a fair comparison is not possible in this way.

It's the other way around, the V-15 is a Moving Magnet and the Ortofon OM is a Moving Iron

There is a way to compare the sound: listen to both at matched levels.
Ortofon...😅
