      AspieThinker Those are the tandem tunnels on the Angeles Crest Highway. They also took lots of fly by shots of the bike at the Jarvi Turn out. This is Highway 2 in the Angeles National Forest, very near where the old state road 39 intersects.

    Honestly it comes down to which one you think looks the best and the comfort you're willing to give up on the road. No one other than professional racers will be able to come close to any of the bikes top performace possibilities. I like the Panigale then R1 then CBR because they look the best.

    • @Mikolaj_u
      @Mikolaj_u 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DonTHEhandsome1 its not only about shaving decimal points of lap times. Engine smoothness, power delivery, suspension settings, heat production, position set up etc etc list goes on. choosing bike purely by looks is stupid.

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Labonte For the street you're just buying it for the looks. I bought my CBR just because it's reliable, has great transition from close to open throttle and is very good at putting the power down progressively, so the canyon's are a lot of fun. I've ridden the other bikes and they are way too agressive sometimes for a nice canyon ride. CBR still has the best feel IMHO. But if I wanted something more track focused I'd get the R1 or RSV4.

    • @BFD15i
      @BFD15i 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Labonte Honestly, who cares how old the package is, if it still fits the requirements?
      The GSX-R still is a really really good sportsbike. Not with the perfection a new S1000RR may have but for that you have to pay thousands of dollars less.
      I can only speak for myself, but I would test-ride all of them. And then I would buy the bike that has the smoothest and most comfy ride.
      Because I know that it's far beyond my own skills to get any of these bikes to their limits. No matter how old the bike's construction is. And in contrast of most sportbike-owners I am self-conscious enough to admit that. ;)

    • @BFD15i
      @BFD15i 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you're having fun: ride what makes you happy. ;) 600cc's are fun to handle but I like the grunt of those big engines. And especially on our Autobahn it's a lot of fun to play with all those beamers, merc's and Audis who think, that they're fast. (I know, it's immature but I can't help it ;) )
      For everything else than the Autobahn or aracetrack, a 600cc-sportsbike is more than enough to have plenty of fun and be fast as heck.

      A sport bike is made to ride the twistys or the race track.
      If you buy one don't be surprised if it's not comfortable, of course it's not the best to go to work or go shopping.

    • @jcwebb540
      @jcwebb540 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Dédé LABINOUZE That's how utterly good superbikes have become. They are all so sublime at being racy, that the biggest differentiators are how liveable they are.

    • @BFD15i
      @BFD15i 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dédé LABINOUZE I don't know what your problem is. They tested them on the track and on the road. And they give a resume of every bike's strong- and weak-spots.
      Now it's on you to decide, what's important for you.
      If you're the one who only takes his sportbike to the track, you obviously don't have to care about road-riding abilities. Most of the sportsbike-owners however, ride their bikes on the road most of the time.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dédé LABINOUZE They did the track reviews earlier at Laguna Seca, this is the street review. Honestly, you spend $15,000 - $25,000 on a motorcycle, you want to see everything it is good at, some bikes are fast on the track and comfortable as well. Some can't do both, good to get an opinion on daily livability.

    so the only thing wrong with the r1 is that it's so good on track that it becomes too track focused on the street making it a little uncomfortable. I'd still take the yamaha, but maybe its just cause i grew up in a yamaha family.

    10 years ago when I was into bikes, the 1000cc class really shined with higher hp/lower weight for each new model. Slicker design and just savage looking. These bikes here looks like the Sport touring bikes 10 years ago, and all that seem to have happened are ABS and such stuff that belong in a Volvo :(

  • @graemearmstead9437
    @graemearmstead9437 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review. However having done a few track days it's worth noting that all bikes are so good that the difference between rider skills is far greater than the difference between bikes. If you are an average rider it's amazing how much quicker you are than a bad rider on a faster bike and how you can't keep close to really good rider on a slower bike than your's.

  • @RyanMcIntyre
    @RyanMcIntyre 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You know what nobody talks about? What these bikes are like over the long haul. It's never mentioned that maybe the Honda is 8 years old, but probably the best built bike here and will last anyone a lifetime and that Kawasakis are... well, Kawasakis. Or that Ducatis are cool and exotic when they're new, but they're fragile, expensive as hell, and after 10 years parts are hard to find. And that Aprilias are Italy's Kawasaki.
    I appreciate your honest journalism, but to paint everything positively doesn't do justice to someone that might actually buy one of these machines. If a bike is a turd, I feel like it's your responsibility to tell us. And if anyone would know that, it would definitely be you.

    • @BFD15i
      @BFD15i 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ryan McIntyre " If a bike is a turd, I feel like it's your responsibility to tell us."
      And how do you know if a brand new bike is a turd or not? Aprilia and Ducati took huge steps in terms of reliability. Honda gave up quite a bit on that (broken frames, suddenly stopping or even burning motors, etcpp).
      Buy the bike you want. Take good care of it. (!!) That's the only way to make sure that you have fun with it for a long time.

    I've never owned or even test ridden the RSV4 but I think I might have to after watching this. I did ride the naked version and man that thing's engine is sweet. I was thinking of replacing my old 2012 S1000RR (that I sold earlier this summer) with the 2015 model but now I'm thinking the Aprilia might be a cooler option. My only gripe is that the styling and instruments look a bit dated. I wish they'd take a hint from Ducati / MV Agusta and restyle the plastics and headlights on that thing. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my Panigale ;). What really needs to happen here is Ducati needs to make an affordable V4 (e.g. not another Desmosedici - something a pleb like me can afford) - I'd give them my money so fast.
    Anyways, great vid! I love the double tunnel sound tests. Do that for every bike you review please :D

I live in MN and aside from driving relatively significant distances to compare the comfort levels on my own from bikes at different dealerships, it's hard to guess and the motorcycle shows up here are sub-par at best with quite a few manufacturers missing each year. thanks for the vids and reviews though...much appreciated.

    I think the L4 engines sound the best. Everyone has its own opinion and that is cool, but If you dont like the sound of a precision ultra high revving race engine just because "it sounds like every other sport bike" and you have the need to feel special, then you suck, this engines ARE special, they move at about 250 revolutions each second, your brain isnt even capable of imagining that.
    Oh, and I love the tunnel shots where you can listen to each bike, they're great

    Tom Roderick seems to have some sort of beef with Honda. Not only did he exaggerate the vibration issues with the 650F in the middleweight shootout, but here he also made a joke at the expense of Marquez and the GP replica i.e., the RC213V-S. But then again, these are the same folks asking for heated grips and cruise control on an SBK(yeah not supersport, supersports are 600cc bikes).

    I'd take the Aprilia. Seems like a well rounded bike but hopefully it's not plagued by electronic issues. This is coming from a Ducati guy. The 1299 is too focused for the track.

    So you didn't include the GSXR but did have a Honda and a Yamaha and your only excuse for that is because the ZX won? I'm seriously starting to think you guys are bias against Suzuki.

    • @swifttone
      @swifttone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ummm the Yamaha is new so of course they will include it

    • @samualiam9981
      @samualiam9981 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SwiftTone I'm well aware of that. What I was getting at is its just seems that they always have some excuse to not include the Suzuki unless they have no choice. I'm not mad i'm just pointing fingers with a tinfoil hat is all. It just seems like they are bias against Suzuki.

      Samual Iam Samual, we ALWAYS include the Suzuki when it is either new, or the reigning champion in its class. The current GSX-R 1000 is neither. The R1 is new, and the CBR SP is the first one we've ever had in a shootout.

    Btw these guys opinions only matter to those who will never buy one of these bikes. No one who buys a 15-25k bike is going to base it on what these guys say. The buyer already has his biases.

    I'll take the BMW, love all the gizmos and premium features (cruise control, heated grips), if Aprilia would add those then I'd ben all over it though cause that engine/muffler sounds amazing!
