Its my opinion mate. I would be happy with any of these bikes. For sure I wouldn't extract all the power and eletronics they have because I'm just a regular driver looking for some fun. Btw, the 600s are the greatest for this kind of public. Hugs!
+Pedro Fontes It really comes down to which one looks best as far as design and ergonomics. I think the ZX10R looks best but the Ducati, BMW and R1 can hold their own too.
+BommbasticPL in my opinion Ducati's always been different from other bikes, and that what should be, Italian, experience and different feel That's why some people like it others don't
The Panigale R is at the absolute bottom of my list. It's certainly not as comfortable as any of the bikes it competed with, PFFFFFFFFFFFFFT. Otherwise, good review. Too bad Aprilia loaned that demo RF out to every journalist on earth and by the time you guys got it, the clutch was blown. Sucks!
+Daxboy16 Yes, I like it but the newer bikes are better. The R1M sound better, has a better TFT display, built in wifi, glossy carbon fiber, better suspension, auto blipper. The RSV4 is better than my Panigale R in every single way.
So the winner of the 2016 1000cc shoot out is a 1299cc, wow who would have thought that. Shame someone wrecked the clutch on the Aprilia RSV4RF whilst road riding, how ? I have owned a Ducati 1199 Tricolore S for almost 3 years now sold and have owned 3 Aprilia RSV4's since 2010, my latest is the RF. I also have a 2016 ZX10R and have ridden the new R1 and S1000RR. To me the Ducati is the most unreliable, uncomfortable bike around town, I have owned. The Ducati is pretty but high maintenance and to me not the best in this group.
+Donovan “twowheel_D” Lewis by throwing more money at it and giving it a bigger engine. This shouldn't be able to compete in the test on the grounds that it can't compete against the others alone. For WSB and any other racing they have to use the 1199.
+puttputt1992 Except its the bike they actually put out on the street and its the bike consumers are able to buy. Which is is what this test is about. The bike you can actually go and buy.
+Donovan “twowheel_D” Lewis consumer can go and buy a H2, doesn't mean you add it into a scooter comparison. This is about the litre sports category, which the 1199 just about fits in. The 1299 doesn't.
I still like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. It's just like you guys said that all of these bikes offer more power than an individual would ever need on the street, so it does not really matter which is the best in all of these categories but, rather, which one satisfies the consumer's personal preferences. I do not see a reason to argue in the comment section because of this. In retrospect, this whole test with these men opinions and reports mean absolutely nothing. The real, honest reason anyone watches these tests, first rides, and reviews is to see his/her favorite bike in motion and to see how it stacks up to the competition (mainly for showing off/ego fullfiling points).
So last year the Ducati was " impractical" on the road now its on top... i know its the s vs the base model but its still mainly the same bike .... the r1 is not comfortable on the road (long reach for the bars no wind protection) yet finishes top two?? not very consistent in my opinion?
You're contradicting yourselves two times in this video. Firstly, for the road test you said that 2 bikes stood out: the Ducati and the R1 (which is strange considering how infamously uncomfortable and track oriented the bike is), but then later for the R1's drawbacks, you said it wasn't very comfortable on the road. Also the only "flaw" of the BMW you mentioned was that it wasn't "polished" whatever that meant... The bike had 2nd best track time, and you sang praises for the road portion of the BMW test, and yet it's behind R1. I get that in the end it all comes down to subjective opinions on the bikes, but work on your arguments at least.
+neevesybikes still doesn't change the results, R1 uncomfortable not a great road bike... S1000RR comfortable great road bike... R1 an 'awesome' track bike S1000RR on that day a better track bike (or at least a faster one) Yes i know different tracks will give different results but surely you have to base your finding for this group test on the tests you did in that time period? but its all opinions 1. S1000RR 2.1299S 3.R1 4.ZX10R 5.RSV4 (for obvious reasons)
+Luke Durban Like you say, opinions differ. If I were riding on the street, I'd rate 1. RSV4 2. S1000RR 3. Panigale 4. ZX10R / R1 tie The S1000R has to rate high because of its creature comforts and overall roominess, whereas the RSV4 and Panigale are far and above more interesting to ride than it, but the Pani *FOR ME* is a bit tough to love on the street in terms of comfort. The two others, well... I'd pick the R1 over the ZX10R if it didn't look like a catfish with bolted-on chinese parts, and the ZX10R .. OK I take that back, make the ZX10R #4. For track I'd rate them... 1. RSV4 2. R1 3. ZX10R 4. S1000RR 5. Panigale The RSV4 won World SuperStock and just has no weaknesses on track, the front end balance being key. R1 is a pip behind it and doesn't look like such a bag of atrophy in track trim (not to mention the GYTR ecu improvements). The ZX10R has a load of potential and I am taking a gamble here but I believe it would be both quicker and less expensive than the S1000RR in race trim. The new S1000RR has proven reliable and fast in its current trim, but it's $pendy and ultimately a bit more road-focused in this group. The Panigale is last for two reasons: the 1299 engine takes it out of most racing classes, and the cost of racing/tracking a Ducati is painful. But if it was just for track days / enjoyment, place it 2nd!! So uhm... just my opinions. As for defending my choice of RSV4 in both lists, it's as simple as this: I've voted with my own dollars twice. Aprilias have been good to me, parts are not overly expensive and the combination of chassis / motor in the RF is just stunning. It's not the most comfortable on the road, nor the most user-friendly but you always know you are riding a fire-breathing superbike, much like the Panigale... whereas the inline-4s (even the R1 to a point) leave me cold when I'm not riding hard... which for me pips the S1000RR's creature comforts simply because I ride the street for enjoyment, not long trips or commuting. Like others have said on this video however, the best bike to ride is the one you have the keys to...
Not sure I really follow the logic of your tests results here MCN. The BMW had the 2nd fastest time faster than the R1 and you say it's a better road bike because the R1 is so track focused. Yet it's in 3rd place behind a bike that posted slower times? Last year of course since you stacked the deck in Yamaha's favor using a tight handling oriented circuit the R1 was the fastest bike. I used to really consider you guys to be an unbiased source of good information. With inconsistent and politically motivated test results I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. Please review the bikes not which companies checks make you smile the most.
it's not a wsb bike out off the box isit? but at the end off the day i feel the zx10r was totally overlooked in your test. also I can't believe it was 2+ seconds off the pace in the race track test. this years superstock bike too be on will be the new zx10r as it was last year because pound for pound and performance wise it's pretty much unstoppable. I seriously don't believe the 10r was given a opportunity too show its true protencial in your test in fact your test has been the only negative test I've seen for the new zx10r. every other journalist has given it a rave review true too it's potential....
+Nick Guy show me another comparison test where they've said that, Nick. We gave the ZX-10R every chance, why wouldn't we? I was as excited about it as anyone. It's too long geared in standard trim and the ABS is too intrusive. Make a few changes, like in superstock and it would be brilliant, but we're testing road bikes out of the box. I'm running a new ZX-10R this year, so we'll see how it goes. I see from your profile pic that you might be a bit biased, though... Neevesy MCN
+neevesybikes hi Michael if your racing a Kawasaki zx10r this season and its 2.3 seconds off the pace I think you're gonna need alot a luck with the 10r this season... you should a gone with the ducati this season micheal !
+Nick Guy I wonder how the gearing spread is. My ZX6R suffers from very tall low gears but not that tall high gears... so when you gear it down enough that 1st and 2nd are great, 6th is really too low. An annoying compromise stemming from a track focused design.
I used to watch MCN reviews and admire them but not any more - this show has become a ridiculous Ducati Sponsored show.... Now I just watch WSBK to get some info about bikes.
At some point, you guys will have to start doing 2 comparison tests per year. 1 Test with bikes completely stock. Then, a 2nd test with all bikes lightly modified with slip-on along with gearing and mapping changes.
+Daniel Mwai seriously, thats my only concern and dealer breaker..i live in texas so the heat issue is a very serious concern for me. wish they would of discussed it.
+YourTypicalGeek Ey guys, I own the '16 ZX10, and my housemate owns the '15 S1K. I can tell you now, the ZX10 runs cooler than any of these. While commuting I average 76 degrees celcius when the S1k is at 100+. If heat is a problem for you, have a look and test of the ZX.
+Miles Turton Thanks for that, I had assumed that was the case with my experience of the last generation ZX. I didn't find the S1000RR brutal or anything but this is good information to have if you live in... say, Texas. For the record, the new RSV4 RR/RF is considerably cooler than my 2013 Factory was. There's a bit of magic there, to put down 20whp more power and generate less heat...
Not entirely sure if anyone else has picked this up??? This MCN review uses a 2016 RSV4-RF, @ 1:49 in the clip they have a view from the rear in a garage of a 2015 RSV4-RF!!! this is noticable due to the RED DECAL under the rear tail fairing... NOT TO MENTION THAT THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER RSV4-RF RIGHT BESIDE IT?????? BLOWN CLUTCH MY ASS!!!!!
+Steve C I think the point was they the ZX10R was the only bike to have the new Euro 4 compliance and if the others follow suit they may suffer a bit as well. Could be that nothing would change but we won't really know i guess.
No kidding. BMW 2nd fastest time and better road bike 3rd place. R1 3rd fastest time and complaints about the bike being bad on the road because it's track oriented 2nd place. I have a feeling that Yamaha's advertising budget is bigger than BMW's. Everyone has a price though. MCN completely blew their credibility on this one.
WAT. I'm so happy to see Ducati being rated on top, It's just such a shock, because nobody ever seems to want to rate the Ducati highly. Cheers for the review guys!
well listen man. This year Honda's fireblade is back on the podium without a single update, and we both know that many of these bikes, including the ducati, are technologically superior to it. I'd give it my best judgment to say that rider opinions weigh in heavily here, and it's not like it's some kind of dichotomous scenario where two bikes are facing off for glory like the last 3-4 years of world superbike have been. I'd say that we have to recognize that rider opinions vary far and wide, and in this particular instance, they just found that ducati was their overall victor. I'll be honest with you, I'm a diehard Ducati fan and my judgment is probably a little biased towards it, but that doesn't stop me from recognizing that the Race ECU kit on the ZX-10R produced 2 more bhp at the crank than Ducati's engine, ya see what I'm saying? I'm honestly surprised the ZX-10, R1 and RSV4 aren't running off with the title like they always do.
All these bikes are great. These head to head comparisons are great because it forces manufacturers to up the ante. All riders are the winners in the end!
It's crazy the difference in opinions between reviews. In a separate review the Ducati was said to be horrendous on the road because it was so jerky, nervous and the heat problem could make you borderline infertile. I don't know who to believe!
+NickLiang It can be all of those things. It depends on the road, how hot the day is, and what your personal style is. I would not want to be on one in 35C+ weather unless I was on an open road, I can say that. But then, you could say that of all of them, the S1000RR and RSV4 frame rails will get hot pretty quickly and the giant, ugly, bulbous monstrosity of a converter attached to the right footpeg on the R1 is like a space heater. Not sure of the new ZX10R. I do not find the Aprilia or the last generation ZX10R to be unlivable as I have sampled both in hot weather... S1000RR was but I was locked in the pits idling for a few minutes on that bike.
Nice to see a controlled comparison, but I really don't like the footage. I understand that there are quite a number of bikes and the video is short, but slightly epileptic shots being thrown in all the time with some speaking in between doesn't really do it for me. The track portion of the test was slightly better though.
$10 says they spent a bunch of time playing with launch control features on the bikes and ended up frying the clutch on the V4, but didn't own up to it, and didn't bother to repair the bike for the track test, which is inexcusable considering how easy the job is.
Ninja cost a few thousand less, put that saving into upgrades on the bike and it will rule the road/track! New break pads, new exhaust, new ECU and sprockets, Killer!
By the way, another thing journalists never focus on is which manufacturers stand behind their bikes the best. In terms of factory warranties, BMW provides a three-year factory warranty on the RR in the US. Aprilia and Ducati are two years. Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha only offer one year warranties. With all of the high tech electronics and rider aids coupled with such hyper performance engines, factory warranties are critical for anyone who wants to own one of these bikes longer than 12 months.
To all you people bitching and moaning - just like car reviews, there is obviously a ton of user bias. Everyone likes different things for different reasons. That's what test rides are for - any decent dealer will let you take a bike for half a day if you're serious about buying it. Not only is it fun, but you can make up your own mind and buy a bike that suits YOUR riding style. Think of them like women (or guys if you're a girl / into that) - you might think it's a 3 but your pal might think it's a 10. Test ride the one ya like and keep it if it fits the bill :)
+Darwin Allen A lot of truth in what you say. So many variables. Reviews should try and be impartial as much as possible, and just try and describe the bikes clearly. But what you want, or will like, depends massively on what you want use the bike for. If you want a track weapon, then you have to remember that you will probably end up changing loads of stuff anyway, making the bike quite different to what's being reviewed. Even comfort is highly subjective, as everyone is a different size and weight . Perhaps the most useful aspects of reviews are things like reliability, costs, technical specs and details, and niggling issues etc. Unless a bike really is a complete dog, or a complete star (1998 R1, remember!?!), don't take reviews too seriously.
+Darwin Allen The voice of reason! I was on this test and there isn't a bad bike amongst them. For such similar bikes they're all very different, and that makes them appeal to different people for different reasons - you are 100% right in what you say about test riding them being the way forwards if you planned to buy one. Failing that they're all so good that you could pick one of these based on nothing more than your favourite colour and you wouldn't be disappointed! But with all that said, as winners go, the Ducati was easy to pick because it's a proper riders bike, it feels like it's alive and it's utterly glorious.
+Visorvision UK The part that annoyed me the most is the complaints about "euro4 enforced 5kilo weight gain" if it's euro enforced, all the other bikes have it, And the first two things anyone will change on a bike, will shave off over 5kg... just saying. However, i do understand the end result. I just wish you'd counted bang for buck into it, if you had, the kawi would have done much better.
+CycleCruza Yeah, as great as the current blade is (especially if you are looking for a more down to earth nuts and bolts analogue-ish experience), Honda really seem to be kind of sitting this whole round out. Everyone knows what they are capable of with their MotoGP bikes. I think if they did a V-4 in the price range of the Kawasaki it would be a hit. You get the dealership network of Honda with that special character and something-something from a V-4 that is pretty much only being done by the Italians. They need to do something soon though because everyone else is throwing out some pretty cool stuff. Wonder if it has anything to do with their leadership changing to a guy who came from being known for making their minivans.
+perf86 That sad lol; Motorcycle usa like a lot the Aprilia that finish at the second place of there superbike testing .. one place below the BMW... they test the Aprilia against the new Kawa.. and still prefere the Aprilia... saying that the Kawa would probably finish third(Before Ducati.....) in a superbike test.
Hold on! So the R1, which is the least comfortable with not so great brakes is the best road bike?!? Rubbish! Did Yamaha and Ducati pay you to say that, Neeves? I would still take the S1000RR.
I test rides the R1, it was so uncomfortable the bike was ultra aggressive, my wrists hurt after 5min and I always felt like I was sliding forward on brakes... I couldn't wait to get off the thing, in saying that I am 6ft 3 so that automatically rules me out of the fireblade, zx10r, rsv4rr and now R1, all I've got hope for is in the Ducati and Bmw will fit for comfort
Superion Solace I'm sorry, build quality is not so great?! I think it is on par with a Honda in terms of build quality and it is built by the germans, who do stuff properly. The only prob I have is it eats tyres like no other bike I've owned. Then again, it's horses for courses.
kiffy07 Yes, I agree! I did test the R1, it made me smile all the way but wasn't practical for commuting and my long rides. I'm 5'10 and S1K is perfect and comfortable all day. You should definitely go for a spin on it. I bet you'd ask the dealer to take the money immediately.
think it is around 20-40% reduction in emissions compared to euro3, could be wrong though. that and lower noise from the exhaust (3-4db?) im going to look into it later :)
To be fair, you won't go wrong with any of these bikes, it just comes down to taste. Track times are irrelevant for the overwhelming majority of riders (even those that do track days - most will never get the best out of these machines).
the kawsaki only changes besides the forks and race package were to get around euro 4 and a setup to build a stronger engine on wsbk engine building rules
I haven't met a single person in the real world that thinks ANY ducati supersport seat is comfortable. Most comfortable road bike? my ass. The BMW takes that cake and you know it. And the Aprillia is built more for the track? Umm, Hello? the 1299 isn't? God this review is such a fraud. "With all the new rider aids of the R1, the Kawasaki feels like the exact same bike as last year." How in the world make sense?
Loved the review and the video. Although I would never buy a superbike based on media reviews, this is wonderful entertainment and it does add to my general knowledge of bikes.
Ahhh got it: ultimate bike! So if cost was part the assessment id like to know which bike would take the title. A great year for sports bikes that's for sure!!
I tested a new R1 on the weekend and was not impressed. The throttle is choppy, its really stiff on the road and makes no HP until 7K. The brakes are rubbish. Sure it would be much better on the track but like everyone I spend 85% of my time on the road. I was lucky enough to test the S1000RR on the track and was blown away. I have an 08 CBR and a ZX10 track bike and the BMW was great. Awesome brakes, the DDC kept the bike really stable through high speed and low speed cnrs. The quick shifter up and down is great. Monster top end and sounds like something out of formula 1
+rogase68 Yep, and you'd probably lose your shit over the RSV4 or the 1299 if you rode them, too. I agree with your assessment of the R1 but here in North America it's even worse for choppy throttle and goes mental around 9,000 when it finally starts to make power.
The 1299 is best overall if you don't mind sitting on a boiler plate. The ZX-10R would wake right up with a full ECU flash, but that's not Euro4 compliant, obviously. Full exhaust, filter, and tune. Power would be everywhere.
Well technically they still are kind of 'cheating'. Look at the World Superbike Championships, 1000cc for 4cyl, 1100cc for 3cyl and 1200 for 2cyl for different engine configurations to make around the same amount of power. So technically this Duc will obviously make more power than the compition since its 100cc higher than it should be. Hence why the official Ducati team that races at WSBK is the 1199 and not the 1299.
The Panigale R and the 1299S make the same peak power although the R uses more revs to get there. The 1299 makes a shade more torque. That's what the extra CCs get you. Even if MCN had brought a Panigale R people would be complaining about its price tag. Realistically their complaints aren't about the displacement.
The clear winner is the ZX-10r. Most comfortable for the size and design. you actually sit a little more into the bike compared to the R1 where you sit above the tank. Ducati has heavy steering in the front forks, Not comfy at all for street riding for long periods of time. Boom. change my mind that the ZX-10r is the overall best dual use of a street and track bike. especially for 15,000 or if you buy a model thats just sat in the show room for a year and no one bought. it. 11,000
Best street bike 1299S ???? Every other review would disagree. I thought things like comfort, road manners, cruise control and general livability came into play when you assessed a street bike (Not talking about track test). I think i'll stick to On Two Wheels for a better review of the current batch of super bikes. Why has your opinion changed so much since the 2015 test?
R1 and panigale rumored as two of the most uncomfortable bikes for road use (or every day routine) both for different reasons, but MCN classified them as the two most suitable one... what's going wrong in these decisions making guys ...
Hello, What is the difference between the 2016 model KRT and the 2017 model KRT? Why is the 2016 model cheaper than the 2017, if are the same? Many Thanks
MCN regularly contradict or omit key points from their test reports. I recall how some bikes heralded as perfect one year, later turn out to have significant flaws for example the R1s brakes are suddenly crap?
+6488ott It's the same with all bike reviewers, one year its the best thing since slice bread. Next year it doesn't cut the mustard and yet the bikes perform within milliseconds of eachother on track.
Great video, but my question is more about the Diablo Rosso 3. How do they compare to the M7RR what are the similarities and the difference, and will you guys recommend them. There are almost no videos about them and no specifications or how they are built or there properties.
I've road most of the bikes here thanks to friends and colleagues being very generous and trusting to be honest they all feel exactly the same.99% of the riders out their who own these bikes will never have the skill ability or balls to take these bikes anywhere near their limits,Only then you can feel the difference in the minutely different performance characteristics. That goes for me as well.
+G Honda Thank you for pointing out my poor spelling and understanding of certain words considering English is not my 1st language, and considering I also speak German Spanish And French fluently struggling with the odd spelling sometimes well !.Put it this was I won't loose any sleep over it.👍
The 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R was the headline feature but I learnt little about it from watching this video except that it maybe more road friendly in power delivery for day to day riding. The review seemed to favour out and out track performance rather than a bike that is good on the track and livable on the road, nothing wrong with that but why bother with the road segment in the first place?
What a surprise.......Michael Neaves touting a Ducati over the rest. If only Triumph built an electrically and mechanically inferior 1000cc Supersport that would have won.....
Happy I bought the Duc! By far the sexiest, sounds far and away second best (v4 wins) loads of power, and it is in fact comfy. Sorry Ducati haters it's a great bike.
I would have a tough time choosing one if you lined them up in front of me and said pick one for free. That new ZX10-R with over 200bhp does appeal to me but on looks it would be the R1.
Its a race proven machine... by two top riders Tom sykes and Johnny rea if you can ride it well enough it will deliver the goods required to be a competitive machine, duke and Yamaha also.. Aprillia and bmw not so much.
+steve brown A WSBK bike is incredibly different to a road going bike whether it's based off of one or not. Unfortunately, of the bikes in this line up, in terms of technology and performance it's the loser.
I dont know how many of you guys agree with me, but 2014 was the last year that the R1 was a beauty queen.even perhaps 2012.because of the awkward color schemes particularly the light blue and white !!! this new R1 is a sad fare wale to R1 in general. I cherish my 2008 white/red R1 as one of the prettiest of all time.
Be nice to have a (more detailed) section in the video on egos for each bike, with short, medium and tall rider. This would include discomfort from heat coming off the bike.
I love the Ducati, but making it a point that the Panigale is more comfortable than the R1 is like saying getting stabbed in the thigh is more comfortable than being shot in the belly with a .45, either way you're in for some pain.
9enius I agree (I think) with what you're saying. The numbers they stated seemed awfully high especially if those were wheel hp and not bhp. I dunno seems a bit optimistic to me.
9enius I agree (I think) with what you're saying. The numbers they stated seemed awfully high especially if those were wheel hp and not bhp. I dunno seems a bit optimistic to me.
Conclusion: All bikes are great. Buy which one you like and be happy. Cheers!
Its my opinion mate. I would be happy with any of these bikes. For sure I wouldn't extract all the power and eletronics they have because I'm just a regular driver looking for some fun. Btw, the 600s are the greatest for this kind of public. Hugs!
+Pedro Fontes Option 2...buy them all.
+Pedro Fontes
Exactly, this is the best option ;)
+Pedro Fontes It really comes down to which one looks best as far as design and ergonomics. I think the ZX10R looks best but the Ducati, BMW and R1 can hold their own too.
I would choose the most confortable since I'm going to ride it most on steets and all of them have 190+hp + full eletronic package.
i want kawasaki ZX10r..........!!!!
First time ever I hear someone say The Ducati is comfortable
Watch 44teeth, they compare the new r1 and the 1299 and apparently the 1299 is more comfortablr than the r1!
+BommbasticPL the new R1 it's really uncomfortable bike
+Dirty 10r (ZX10R) i find it funny how some people like the ducati and others complain ( mainly for roasting their testicles)
+BommbasticPL in my opinion Ducati's always been different from other bikes, and that what should be, Italian, experience and different feel
That's why some people like it others don't
+Dirty 10r (ZX10R) I can confirm because I own a 1299 that it is indeed comfy, sorry.
the winner is .....the one you can afford
the winner is what preference you want and who the rider is the best rider on the zx10 could beat the panigalle they are all fairly similar
The editing on the opening sequence deserves high praise, well done whoever did it.
Sucks!
+650ib HEY man big fan!!!
650ib in the house!
+650ib I thought you liked the Panigale R? You have a video saying how good it is and being better then the HP4
+raginraven31 Thank you!
+Daxboy16 Yes, I like it but the newer bikes are better. The R1M sound better, has a better TFT display, built in wifi, glossy carbon fiber, better suspension, auto blipper. The RSV4 is better than my Panigale R in every single way.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is THE BEST all-round bike here, and this review (and MCN) is bulls***!
What's your opinion on the 2016 zx10r?
+Stan Radley I don't know if you have ridden one but the 1299 is a major improvement over the 1199. It fixed or improved every issue with the 1199.
Went back to confirm another post: there are indeed two RSV4s in the pit garage at 1:49. Take what you will from that.
Seeing this review in the recommend section makes me remember why i had unsubscribed to this channel.
Vaibhav Gupta why?
Crazy you took the time to write this comment lol.
I thought the same
+1FoOdLoCo1 Which is why the s1k should win because its practical (as much as a 1k supersport can be), beautiful and goes like hell :D
>complains about 5kg added weight on the kawi
>ignores the fact that the first two mods 99% of riders will do shaves off over 5kg...
Thanks, allcartuner. It's all explained in MCN. This is just a brief, free video to explain the test highlights. Neevesy MCN
+neevesybikes still doesn't change the results, R1 uncomfortable not a great road bike... S1000RR comfortable great road bike... R1 an 'awesome' track bike S1000RR on that day a better track bike (or at least a faster one) Yes i know different tracks will give different results but surely you have to base your finding for this group test on the tests you did in that time period? but its all opinions
1. S1000RR
2.1299S
3.R1
4.ZX10R
5.RSV4 (for obvious reasons)
+Luke Durban it's all explained in MCN, Luke.
+Luke Durban Like you say, opinions differ. If I were riding on the street, I'd rate
1. RSV4
2. S1000RR
3. Panigale
4. ZX10R / R1 tie
The S1000R has to rate high because of its creature comforts and overall roominess, whereas the RSV4 and Panigale are far and above more interesting to ride than it, but the Pani *FOR ME* is a bit tough to love on the street in terms of comfort. The two others, well... I'd pick the R1 over the ZX10R if it didn't look like a catfish with bolted-on chinese parts, and the ZX10R .. OK I take that back, make the ZX10R #4.
For track I'd rate them...
1. RSV4
2. R1
3. ZX10R
4. S1000RR
5. Panigale
The RSV4 won World SuperStock and just has no weaknesses on track, the front end balance being key.
+allcartuner the newest bike is best in MCNs eyes
I remember when the RC51 came out, 135hp v-twin super bike, the fact that all these bikes now have 200hp min just blows my mind!
+Steamin Steven The RC 51 was still underpowered for its time. Was a great bike but the fireblade was already making more power.
Kawasaki won the 2016 wsbk championship.. that'll do me..
Sound sound sound! So simple to get right. Makes such a difference .sound sound sound!
it's not a wsb bike out off the box isit? but at the end off the day i feel the zx10r was totally overlooked in your test. also I can't believe it was 2+ seconds off the pace in the race track test. this years superstock bike too be on will be the new zx10r as it was last year because pound for pound and performance wise it's pretty much unstoppable.
Neevesy MCN
+neevesybikes
hi Michael if your racing a Kawasaki zx10r this season and its 2.3 seconds off the pace I think you're gonna need alot a luck with the 10r this season... you should a gone with the ducati this season micheal !
+Nick Guy I race a BMW, Nick. I've got a ZX-10R as a long term test bike for the road...Neevesy
+Nick Guy I wonder how the gearing spread is. My ZX6R suffers from very tall low gears but not that tall high gears... so when you gear it down enough that 1st and 2nd are great, 6th is really too low. An annoying compromise stemming from a track focused design.
+Nick Guy paid reviews
I used to watch MCN reviews and admire them but not any more - this show has become a ridiculous Ducati Sponsored show.... Now I just watch WSBK to get some info about bikes.
+Stoyan Dermenzhiev hah.... no. Watch WSST if you're going to.
Think this is bad read read the joke of a paper. Best think to do with it is use it as emergency bog roll 😅😅
Going to take your advise also.
Thanks MCN, been waiting for this comparison since the new ZX-10R was announced last year!
At some point, you guys will have to start doing 2 comparison tests per year. 1 Test with bikes completely stock. Then, a 2nd test with all bikes lightly modified with slip-on along with gearing and mapping changes.
Amazing.. not a single word on the Ducati's heat problems?
If you ride it fast you don't get that problem
+Daniel Mwai The Duc doesn't have a heat problem. You have a pace problem. ;)
BLOWN CLUTCH MY ASS!!!!!
why do thay call it MCN and not Ducati fan club?
how about we test the zx10r without the Euro 4 ecm which I think by them being the first to drop with it is hurting this bike
+Ant Wms Then why not modify ALL of them? Because it's only fair...
+Steve C I think the point was they the ZX10R was the only bike to have the new Euro 4 compliance and if the others follow suit they may suffer a bit as well. Could be that nothing would change but we won't really know i guess.
I don't think that's the case, looking at the massive catalytics all these bikes ship with.
these guys pick whoever paid them the most this time around. the fix is in!
Just booked the 2016 zx10r! So excited.
Aprilia just showing again that reliability is still an issue. For a bike that cost £18000 that's not good enough
+Dougie 5000+ racing miles on my 14 factory, original clutch, zero issues.
+John Borst the RF demo bike has been raped throughout the year. lol
$10 says they spent a bunch of time playing with launch control features on the bikes and ended up frying the clutch on the V4, but didn't own up to it, and didn't bother to repair the bike for the track test, which is inexcusable considering how easy the job is.
+ChrisMag100 but that never happened so what's the point in your comment?
+John Borst so you got one that hasn't broken what's your point?
The Ducati is by far the best looking and sounds awesome.
Mike Hedrick one of the best
Every time he says "Docile and easy to ride" thats got to be code for boring LOL
Great review thank you. I'd be happy to own any of these bikes luv the zx-10 r.
*The ZX-10R is the most beautiful of them all*.
+Darwin Allen Good effort in being reasonable Darwin, but somewhat wasted here, I'm afraid.
Unless a bike really is a complete dog, or a complete star (1998 R1, remember!?!), don't take reviews too seriously.
aluisious I do hang out with some fairly handicapped people, not gonna lie.
+Visorvision UK The part that annoyed me the most is the complaints about "euro4 enforced 5kilo weight gain"
if it's euro enforced, all the other bikes have it, And the first two things anyone will change on a bike, will shave off over 5kg...
just saying.
However, i do understand the end result.
I just wish you'd counted bang for buck into it, if you had, the kawi would have done much better.
I tend to feel that test riders pick their favorite manufacturers between 1st & 2nd picks.
+Darrell N its who ever pays the most.
after the road portion the clutch on the RSV was slipping? that doesn't sound very durable
New blade coming! Hopefully it's not just another "sporty refresh."
+CycleCruza #classicHonda
+CycleCruza BOLD! NEW!! GRAPHICS!!!
It will still be a Honda
aprilia didnt offer you any money for the test? 😂😂
+perf86
That sad lol; Motorcycle usa like a lot the Aprilia that finish at the second place of there superbike testing .. one place below the BMW... they test the Aprilia against the new Kawa.. and still prefere the Aprilia... saying that the Kawa would probably finish third(Before Ducati.....) in a superbike test.
perf86 agreed 😛😛
+A Jay The S1000RR looks cheap, and the build quality is not so great
Superion Solace I'm sorry, build quality is not so great?!
+kiffy07 I own a 2015 r1 it's more comfortable then my old r6 so if you want Comfort go buy a Harley 😆 just saying
I would love a video giving a breakdown of what euro4 is all about.
think it is around 20-40% reduction in emissions compared to euro3, could be wrong though. that and lower noise from the exhaust (3-4db?) im going to look into it later :)
+Ian Enciso I would like to know how it affects the kawasaki's weight as well?
thanks guys...this is the review we were waiting for.
To be fair, you won't go wrong with any of these bikes, it just comes down to taste. Track times are irrelevant for the overwhelming majority of riders (even those that do track days - most will never get the best out of these machines).
what times we live in 200 bhp production road bikes, just need the traffic and cops of the early 90,s to make use of them.
Quick question when, in 2016 comes out the 2017 models ?? thank you
I can't wait to see how the new GSX-R and Fireblade get on next.
Why compare the s and rf vs standard kawa , r1 and bmw ?
the kawsaki only changes besides the forks and race package were to get around euro 4 and a setup to build a stronger engine on wsbk engine building rules
+BuhLakeh Well, to be fair, the 1299 can only compete in open-classed racing. :/
BMW and Aprilla for me. 3rd would be the Kawi, Yamaha and Ducati bringing up the rear.
same here
your right there this test was ballshit
your right there this test was ballshit
I would still take the BMW S1000RR home! I think it should have come in second though...
Loved the review and the video. Although I would never buy a superbike based on media reviews, this is wonderful entertainment and it does add to my general knowledge of bikes.
What I've been waiting on for a whole year! 👍
Why MCN loves Ducati so much ?
+Harun h. Idk but it seems to me like each and every motorbike channel/magazine has their favourite brand. Either preference or bribes idk.
And why a Panigale "S "version most people can t pay ? Please take the basic version ,it costs already enough!
I've recently ridden the BMW. It is supurb. Except changing gear, that requiers more effort than on my Duc
The 1299 is best overall if you don't mind sitting on a boiler plate. The ZX-10R would wake right up with a full ECU flash, but that's not Euro4 compliant, obviously. Full exhaust, filter, and tune. Power would be everywhere.
People say Ducati's cheating cause of the bigger CCs but forget that it only has 2 cylinders
Boom. change my mind that the ZX-10r is the overall best dual use of a street and track bike. especially for 15,000 or if you buy a model thats just sat in the show room for a year and no one bought. it. 11,000
Looking forward for the new MV F4 coming this autumn...
MCN you stuffed up. The Ducati doesnt belong in this test. Its not a 1000cc bike as the others.
According to some semi official rumors, the new Fireblade will come in Xmas 2023 as a 2024 model. So we have to wait a little longer.
R1 and panigale rumored as two of the most uncomfortable bikes for road use (or every day routine) both for different reasons, but MCN classified them as the two most suitable one... what's going wrong in these decisions making guys ...
Excited to see what happens next year with the revamping for euro4.
Hello,
What is the difference between the 2016 model KRT and the 2017 model KRT? Why is the 2016 model cheaper than the 2017, if are the same? Many Thanks
why dont you use the standard version of the panigale? which is on the price point of the others
+Onoff314 newest bikes are the best in the eyes of these people
Rage Quit87
Of course some improvements are made year to year but the comparisons they make are literally night and day one year to the next
Onoff314 never believe the hype
They were always crap
Great video, but my question is more about the Diablo Rosso 3. How do they compare to the M7RR what are the similarities and the difference, and will you guys recommend them. There are almost no videos about them and no specifications or how they are built or there properties.
MCN sports tyre comparison test coming next month...
Awesome review guys just like always :)
+Michael Kohler The main highlight was 2016 kawasaki zx10r and rest of the bikes were already reviewed, so to me its a good review.
I've road .?
Yes, he has road.
+G Honda Thank you for pointing out my poor spelling and understanding of certain words considering English is not my 1st language, and considering I also speak German Spanish And French fluently struggling with the odd spelling sometimes well !.Put it this was I won't loose any sleep over it.👍
Zx10r is like the only bike that doesn't sound tinny
I love your video's. I just a shame neeves' audio is clipping the whole time.. And hooray for Ducati!
+Gert-Jan Stehouwer Think the gain was up just a bit too high, ah well could have been a lot worse.
Brillant vid And NO MUSIC!!! Mote of the same please.
ZX10R FFS WINS WSBK....
And?
And what?
+steve brown what relevance does that have here?
Its a race proven machine... by two top riders Tom sykes and Johnny rea if you can ride it well enough it will deliver the goods required to be a competitive machine, duke and Yamaha also.. Aprillia and bmw not so much.
+steve brown A WSBK bike is incredibly different to a road going bike whether it's based off of one or not. Unfortunately, of the bikes in this line up, in terms of technology and performance it's the loser.
They chose the 25k dollar ducati so why didn't they use the R1-M seem unreasonable as a comparison, the bikes should be within eachothers price range.
I dont know how many of you guys agree with me, but 2014 was the last year that the R1 was a beauty queen.even perhaps 2012.because of the awkward color schemes particularly the light blue and white !!! this new R1 is a sad fare wale to R1 in general. I cherish my 2008 white/red R1 as one of the prettiest of all time.
tell us more about those pirelli diablo 3 tyres... please
oh and may i add that they for got the weight diff in stock exhaust
Be nice to have a (more detailed) section in the video on egos for each bike, with short, medium and tall rider. This would include discomfort from heat coming off the bike.
So I understand that the H2 is on a different world therefore not mentioned here.
+Tyler D. roadster?
just from wikipedia: "Roadster is equivalent to standard or naked"
and why do you say ffs ?
if we have triumph here,,it gonna win,,,always at least to this mcn,,,,
what city are these tests being conducted in?
I love the Ducati, but making it a point that the Panigale is more comfortable than the R1 is like saying getting stabbed in the thigh is more comfortable than being shot in the belly with a .45, either way you're in for some pain.
This is the life.. What a job!
yamaha gets 199 hp on the dyno ? while the kawi and bmw 191 and 196 respectively. is it correct ??
These mcn dyno numbers should come with an asterisk the size of england
9enius I agree (I think) with what you're saying. The numbers they stated seemed awfully high especially if those were wheel hp and not bhp. I dunno seems a bit optimistic to me.

A set up zx10r is very very hard to kill, its a great bike at the core, racing proves this,
but i like how the r1 sounds so. . .
Rider and how good the crew is at setting up the bike.
This is in Alcañiz (motorland aragon circuit) and Mequinenza! Very nice motorbikes, I prefer the s1000rr and all of them are very beautifoul
