I have read quite a few reviews on the Cherokee but your review was quite interesting and full of information I wasn't aware of including background on the AWD system. Good work !
EXCELLENT review. You just schooled every auto journalist on the transmission. I hope everyone that reviewed this trans and said they couldn't get it to shift into 9th, see this and feel stupid. Apparently you did your homework. I subscribed after watching this. Thanks.
Uhm if you want to say that you ride a 4x4 suv just say you drive a cherokee and thats sums it up. Please don't compare rav 4, CRV and other makers because this truck rocks and plus the steering wheel is incredible soft feel and easy to turn plus the v6 engin is such a quiet run and very responsive when you need it. I got the limited version with the dual panel sun roof and it makes you feel like every ride is a vacation road trip. Great job jeep keep it coming.
I just got the got the Cherokee limited v6.i have to a admit the front end is what's got me interested. I've had it a week and I love it. It's more comfortable and nicer than I thought it would be. I thing I'm not crazy about is going from 1 to 2 great feels a little jerky not sure why, but other than that I llove it.
We have had our jeep( limited, fully loaded:} now for five years, and we still love it. I have watched video at least 20 times. It drives awesome, handles very good and as for gas mileage...who cares that's why we got the v6. With only 55k on this suv it should last many, many more years.
Excellent review as usual, Alex. No single vehicle checks all the boxes in this segment but kudos to Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep for the range of choices they offer. Kudos, too, for the styling including the infamous (to Jeep traditionalists, especially) front end. Yes, it's odd. But Jeep deserves applause for trying something new in an iconic model. That's always a challenge. Like others, I was initially flummoxed by the headlight/turn signal arrangement. But putting turn signals closer to eye level for other drivers and separating them from headlights for greater visibility is probably a good idea. Wish there were more room in the "way back" but it's difficult to see how that could be done without encroaching on Grand Cherokee territory, especially considering the already beefy size of the vehicle. As you note, there are more appropriate soccer mom and grocery getters in this segment. But for that niche who venture off pavement and away from the suburbs once in a while, Jeep has done themselves proud imo. And that's especially true for folks who have to drive on freeways to get to those off road spots and appreciate the amenities the Cherokee offers.
Great review. I got one as a loaner car. I was very impressed by the new tigershark multiair 4 cylinder . The 9 speed automatic was great. The handling was good too. It was a base model but very well thought out
Thank you for this review...I just bought a 2014 Cherokee limited. I love the look of it, the front end is great for me! I do have an issue with a delay around 20mph. It's been bugging me, but I think I've figured out, I just need to drive a little faster. 😊 In this review you found a delay at higher speeds, which I don't have. I LOVE the 0-60 in 6 secs!! Very helpful when merging! Thank you again Alex! You give a lot of information!
I really hated the front fascia of the new Cherokee when it was introduced. Now that I understand it and saw a video at night with all the front lights illuminate...I think it looks hot and very unique. It's now on my list as a candidate for my next car. The Limited offers a number of luxury features I'm looking for.
Watched this in the UK (as the Cherokee is on my list of 'possibles' when it launches here in the next few months). So some of the review is not relevant to the UK (e.g. engines) but a really good review. Nice to see such a thorough review. Many thanks.
Great review, Alex. I'll get the styling thing over with right away. My wife loves it, I'm neutral, but for you guys with good, long term marriages you know how important that is. I'll never spend $30K plus for something that creates friction. That said, the core of this car is all Jeep. I'll insist on the Trailhawk model for the capabilities. We live in New Mexico and go rock hounding and wheeling in the boonies a lot in our F150 FX4. We take a couple of 1800 mile road trips each year plus a couple of shorter ones, and the highway manners plus the mileage will have us leaving the gas drinking V8 pickup home. I plan on having the 4 cyl Trailhawk, which I will probably have to order one as everyone wants the extra power of the V6 off road. I want the mileage, and with the extra deep low range as a torque multiplier I will have no problems off road. I'm not an "extreme" capability nut as are some Jeep owners, and if it won't go somewhere, I don't want to be there. Plus on the aesthetic side by ordering I'll get the exact color combination I want. So, I for one am glad Jeep went this route in all it's aspects.
i saw this car on an intersection and TBH i liked it..when i 1st saw at show i was like this is a bad front design..but when i saw on road ..your eyes goes right towards those bright LED DRL lights which gives a slicker look And that driver flat fold down is kinda nice..just like my Volvo S80 ( altho not completely flat)
I have a family of 4 (a nine month old and a six year old and this thing is just about perfect. We pretty much fit everything we need, even for driving a longer distance. The highway mileage is fantastic; on the mostly flat highways where I live, I set the cruise to 75-80 mph and with the 9th gear I got over 33 mpg
I bought this car and I love it! I do not off road so I don't have the 4x4... it handles very nice and I love the double glass top with such a huge sunroof!! I replaced my headrests tho with dvd headrests for my grandsons..I would recommend this car
Overall I think they did a really good job on it. I could see taking it on a tour of Monument Valley or the lighter trails at Moab. The front end is growing on me. Love the "Angry Jeep" look with the running lights on.
I freakin' love the styling of this Jeep versus the CX-5, Santa Fe, and Rav4. Best design out of them all! People, if you don't like it and want a more classy look then go for the Grand Cherokee. This is the Cherokee. A brand on its own essentially.
I'll second the request for a Trailhawk review. Also worth mentioning that one big advantage of the V6 over the turbo 4s is the towing capacity. 2000lb max for most of the 4s, 4000lb+ for the V6 Cherokee.
Thank you for another interesting review. Your commentary will encourage me to go to the local Jeep dealer for a closer look and that will be a first for me. I look forward to your next review.
The problem with the cx5 and all the new mazdas is they left out a lot of sound deadening to get those mpg numbers. They are very loud inside compared to the competition and the interior materials leave a lot to be desired.
I have a feeling it's more about saving cost than it is about getting an extra mpg. The CX-5 though is by far the quietest Mazda I've ever driven. And when I say quiet I mean it's bearable.
I like the front styling. If they made the 7-slot grille flat, it'll look like a Grand Cherokee. If they made the headlights larger, it'll be like the Compass's twin. So the front is completely unique to this car and in a class by itself.
+GooseMeister to me, it looks like any other bland tasteless car where you have to look at the badge in order to see what it is, but that's just my opinion. So please, no hate.
+averagetoad4600 I respect your opinion. While it's a fact that this car is quite controversial, I happen to be one of the minority that immediately was fond of the vehicle's design.
Alex, you could be a good lecturer. Your accent was perfect and can cross continents. I tried a lots of vehicles, but now my favorite ones are Jeep Cherokee (the animal) and Volvo (the hunter).
The interior is called Vesuvio. It's a combination of Jeep Brown and Indigo Blue leather. Very nice. I also like Grand Canyon with the Grand Canyon Brown and the copper accents instead of the satin silver and chrome that appears everywhere else. If I'm correct, the latter is only available on the Cherokee Trailhawk.
Very well done review. At first I didn't like the front. Now that I've seen one in person I think it's nicely done. If the quality is good then I think they've got a winner. I also like the idea that it's heavier. To me, I feel safer in a heavier car and I bet it's better in the snow.
Another excellent review, Alex! Actually, it isn't the placement of the lights that bothers me on the front. Rather it is the bend or crook in the 7-port grill, the opening between the fogs, and the length of the hood that, to me, make it look unbalanced and incomplete. Like how they screwed up the Compass from rear door, rearward, they screwed this one up from the front door, forward. It isn't terrible, and not a deal breaker. The interior is fantastic (IMO)! Best in the segment.
Nice review. The car looks much better when you see it in person. There are couple of things missing in the 2014 limited model available in UAE. No sunroof/moonroof, No memory function for seats, the front passenger side seat is not electronic, The vehicle has remote start function and has keyless entry but no keyless start button.. You need to insert the key to start the vehicle. Great seats and steering. The standard gear shifter is a misfit, they should have kept the electronic shifter. I didnt like the positioning of the inputs to the uconnect system (9:38). They should have kept that hidden.. Otherwise perfect.
Barton, I always request near base or "popular" models but unfortunately I am at the mercy of the manufacturer who uses some unknown logic for what they choose to send the press.
I really like your reviews. They are detailed and to the point. However, I think if you can go little deeper in the options such as choice of engine, packages, etc. of these cars(especially the new ones) it will greatly help the people who are watching the video only because they are thinking about buying one(including me) :)
Great review! I'm trying to choose between this and the Evoque. What would you recommend? This seems to have more room/cargo space and obviously lower cost.
The Cherokee checks many boxes and I actually like the front end. My biggest gripe: like all Chryslers there is never a light color (ivory or parchment) interior available. The relentless grey plastic is just that....relentless.
great review! i think in terms of the aesthetics, jeep missed the mark; from the back this suv looks like it is sitting on top of another car (the plastic moulding). lots of great points made in this video, love the honest recommendations at the end.
The darker the color the better it looks ... For me anyway. I'm a bit disappointed with the MPG with the 6cyl. ... I supposed the TrailHawk will be worst
The cherokee is midsize... competes with murano and edge. But I can see why its attractive to escape and crv buyers because it doesnt seem that much bigger even though it is.
I like mine. Also has a USB in the centre console, front passenger seat also can be lowered flat but my headlights are super dim for some reason and sometimes stay on when i turn them off.
Good vid. Alex you never mention the Rogue. I think the Rogue spanks the Rav4 (with its low budget interiors) and the overrated CX5 (the one I test drove had no power at all). Rogue has good mpg and handling and style. Escape is the snappiest but its seating and cockpit are horrible. The Sante Fe is also left out and it is far better (the turbo version) better than the Escape and has great interiors. To me the CRV is meh! Rogue and Cherokee are best value options in this segment. The Cher wins for a wide range of options though...you can get a budget model at 22k or get it fully loaded with a v6 and all.
The new Rogue wasn't on sale yet when the video was recorded so I felt it was best to not speculate. I should have it soon however so expect a video on that. I honestly forgot about the Santa Fe. The Cherokee is on a different mission (for better or worse) and is trying to be the off-road capable option so it makes comparisons a little tricky.
Alex I just want to know how this 2.4 motor runs when loaded heavily, I travel allot with family and friends with vehicle stuffed fully with cargo and passengers, I am planing to buy one and 2.4 litres come in my budget range so want to clear my doubts.
I purchased my Cherokee just yesterday, 8-8-19. New. Likes--front end, heavy large feel, ride and Latitude trim package., 3.2 vvt V6, room enough with back seats down for my 2 GSD girls., Quiet, Cons-- A pillar visibility loss on 2 lane mountain roads dealing with the opposing traffic, Fuel mileage is bad @ 55 mph or less 15.9 as reported by onboard info. No cargo net!!! How cheap of them. I have owned Jeep B4. These new ones fit in anywhere you might go. By the by, the fuel mileage is never a deal breaker for For this Jeep owner. My daily driver is a Z71 Suburban.
Regarding the styling.... Well.. I always thought the Fiat Multipla was much too strange and to be honest I think the styling on the Cherokee is too much in that line. It surely makes it stand out of the crowd. But it's also weird looking cousin the Multipla didn't fair well on sales in Europe...
You missed a bunch of features......like the storage areas under the cargo floor. The special phone charger under the top of the console that used no cord just placing the phone on it to charge.
Love the the overall styling of the Cherokee.. well I must admit the rear to me is bland.. looks like every other S/CUV. Im going to check out an Altitude edition soon and maybe a Trailhawk.. I think Tailhawk looks the best by far with that little painted hood decal.
I wish my 01 Chrysler 300m had this trans or the ZF 8 Speed. I'm a 80 miler on the freeway and my engine rpm goes 2500 RPM at 80 MPH. I normally get from 22 to 27 MPG at this Speed if i had the 9 speed i would reach 35 pretty easy. My current 0-60 is 7.6 Secs and this jeep is on the 6 second range and my car wights 3700 pounds :( Transmission gearing makes the difference ^_^
No Jeep Cherokee has 9.7" of ground clearance. The TrailHawk has 8.7". Other 4X4 models have 7.9." if equipped with Active Drive I (no low range) or 8.2" if equipped with Active Drive II. '
Could they squeeze a few more buttons onto the steering wheel?? Lol. By the way the lower lamps on the front end are driving lights, not fog lights. Fog lights have amber or yellow lenses.
Front end: beautiful. Had a Wrangler, switched from F-150 and then went back to an F-150. Now the wife is looking for something fun. Checking this thing out and a Land Rover Evoque. Just dont completely trust a Land Rover. ( not the best history for reliability )
I own a Jeep Liberty, and still considering to change it for a new Cherokee Limited, for Financial reasons, do you have any idea of how the limited model compares to the last Liberty Limited model?
Luca A The Cherokee is less capable, most of this is down to the lack of solid axles. The Cherokee also can't be lifted easily due to the drivetrain design.
Personally Im a huge fan of this truck. The updated interior looks nice (esp with the sunroof) . The back end looks nice. But the front end is what I can't deal with. Now Its cool to have the LEDs and the Headlights in different peaces. But the Lip that separates the Grill and the bumper makes it look disgusting. It makes this look like a Granny Truck. If they wanted different, put the front of the Liberty on the Cherokee. But this is horrible.
Go to AUX mode and turn the volume up past 20 and listen to the STATIC ... this happens with or without anything plugged in ! 2015's don't do it , only 2014 with 14.25.0 software , jeep refuses to update the issue ..
Too bad Consumer Reports rated this as "Not Recommended", because of poor fuel economy, 9 speed automatic transmission on 4-cylinder models is sluggish, and a cramped interior. I think that Chrysler needs to advance their 2.4 Liter 4-cylinder engines with direct injection with Flex-Fuel capabilities to improve the fuel economy and reprogram the 9-speed automatic transmission. The Pentastar 3.6 Liter V6 is better in fuel economy and power, thanks to direct injection.
hated the front at first, but then i saw it in person and it's grown on me and now I love the styling of the new cherokee
Alex, you are the king of reviewers. thank you. I watch your reviews all the time. Better than motor trend.
Now this is how you do a car review, very detailed. No one out there can match the level of detail you put in your reviews.
The best review I ever seen about 2014 Jeep Cherokee!!! Bravo Alex!!!
I have read quite a few reviews on the Cherokee but your review was quite interesting and full of information I wasn't aware of including background on the AWD system. Good work !
Can't wait to lease one! I feel in love with it the minute I saw it on the lot.
I have a compartment under my seat on my Limited. I never store anything under there but it was a cool surprise when I found it
This is much better looking than the old Cherokee. Really better looking in person than in pictures, IMO.
+CJ VN Honestly, I myself think the old design looked way better.
Great job jeep keep it coming.
you have to compare it, because the RAV4 and CRV is a unibody SUV just like the Cherokee is.
Raven James that’s literally it
The Cherokee is otherwise its own breed lol
I just got the got the Cherokee limited v6.i have to a admit the front end is what's got me interested. I've had it a week and I love it. It's more comfortable and nicer than I thought it would be. I thing I'm not crazy about is going from 1 to 2 great feels a little jerky not sure why, but other than that I llove it.
@Sic semper tyrannis I looked up this video to see if that 1-2 jerk is normal or something lol
I really like the front end, very sporty and different.
We have had our jeep( limited, fully loaded:} now for five years, and we still love it. I have watched video at least 20 times. It drives awesome, handles very good and as for gas mileage...who cares that's why we got the v6. With only 55k on this suv it should last many, many more years.
Im getting mine today. Hopefully ill love it just as you. Did you have to deal with the recall?
It was a base model but very well thought out
Best Jeep Cherokee review on youtube: objetive and complete. Thank you!
I actually like the styling of the front end. The back was quite a shock though in how plain it is. Thank you for another great review!
Like your reviews Alex , you do your homework and it shows. Good job
Most complete, most credible review, thank you...great work.
Hey possibly looking towards getting one. Have you've had any issues with yours since purchased?
We live in New Mexico and go rock hounding and wheeling in the boonies a lot in our F150 FX4. i saw this car on an intersection and TBH i liked it..when i 1st saw at show i was like this is a bad front design..but when i saw on road ..your eyes goes right towards those bright LED DRL lights which gives a slicker look
And that driver flat fold down is kinda nice..just like my Volvo S80 ( altho not completely flat)
Another great review Alex. Thanks. The Cherokee is very nice, and looks a lot better in person. The Trail Hawk is really cool for a cross over.
Not sure yet if I like the vehicle itself, but I totally did the styling, including the front.
I bought this car and I love it! I do not off road so I don't have the 4x4... it handles very nice and I love the double glass top with such a huge sunroof!! I replaced my headrests tho with dvd headrests for my grandsons..I would recommend this car

I like the front styling.

If they made the headlights larger, it'll be like the Compass's twin.
So the front is completely unique to this car and in a class by itself.

I too hated those front running lights. Then we went and bought a new Cherokee Trailhawk. I think they look bad-ass now.
The best review all the time only from Alex Thanks, you are the best ..........!
Very well done review. At first I didn't like the front. Now that I've seen one in person I think it's nicely done. If the quality is good then I think they've got a winner. I also like the idea that it's heavier. To me, I feel safer in a heavier car and I bet it's better in the snow.
Incredible, in a video I saw everything. Great work!!!
The style is different, i love it i want that jeep!!!

I have been expanding that section in the new 2-part reviews, that gives more time for pricing and comparisons.
Alex on Autos GJ and keep it up
:)
Great review! I'm trying to choose between this and the Evoque. What would you recommend? This seems to have more room/cargo space and obviously lower cost.
Great review Alex. Do you think you'll be reviewing the new Rogue anytime soon?
Soon I hope!
Thanks Alex. It has already grown on me.

+Alex on Autos great review, very practical and to the point, love all the detail you went to. Can you do a trail hawk review now please ?
Great job Alex!
Excellent review with incredible detail!! Do you have a review of the 2015 Chrysler 200? Thanks.
I should in 2-3 months when the production 200 cars start rolling out.
Great review! Do more videos!
I actually like the way they look in person. In pictures... Not so much.
Would be a real interesting vehicle if they eventually put the Grand Cherokee's diesel engine in the this.
Wow there's lots of differences on my UK version.
I get 35mpg urban.
45+ on the motorway.
Don't forget to clean the camera before filming. The dusts on the camera are sometimes disturbing.
Do you have a 2015 Subaru wrx/sti anywhere on your schedule?
Not at the moment. Subaru is a little hard to work with sometimes and right now I seem to be getting the cold shoulder.
4wd on this car has HUGE +300 weight penalty.... Get this in FWD and its a great car
I15 in Utah has parts of it where the legal speed limit is 80 mph.
You missed a bunch of features......like the storage areas under the cargo floor. The special phone charger under the top of the console that used no cord just placing the phone on it to charge.
Lexus IS splits in the headlights
Love the the overall styling of the Cherokee.. well I must admit the rear to me is bland.. looks like every other S/CUV. Im going to check out an Altitude edition soon and maybe a Trailhawk.. I think Tailhawk looks the best by far with that little painted hood decal.
also.. the lower RPM at high speeds is a huge thing for me. I do 35ish Highway miles a day on my commute and its at speeds of 75-80 on I75 in Florida.
Alex do like the 2015 Jeep Cherokee?
excellent review.
My current 0-60 is 7.6 Secs and this jeep is on the 6 second range and my car wights 3700 pounds :(
Transmission gearing makes the difference ^_^
Hey Alex, are you going to review the jeep renegade when I comes out
No Jeep Cherokee has 9.7" of ground clearance. The TrailHawk has 8.7". Other 4X4 models have 7.9." if equipped with Active Drive I (no low range) or 8.2" if equipped with Active Drive II.

Aloha when are you going to do a review on the 2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD
Premium Package
Could they squeeze a few more buttons onto the steering wheel?? Lol. By the way the lower lamps on the front end are driving lights, not fog lights. Fog lights have amber or yellow lenses.
Not in the USA, there is no color requirement for fog lamps and in the Jeep manual Jeep refers to them as fog lamps.
Whether or not they are fog lamps has to do with beam dispersion, not color. The fog lights on my Patriot are clear as well.
Thanks for the info!!
Been the best car I ever bought I don't want anything but jeeps now😅
Great review, when will you review the Trailhawk?
I hope to have one before the end of the summer.
Looking forward to it. Your reviews are top notch and concise, love it. Thank you
Front end: beautiful.
Had a Wrangler, switched from F-150 and then went back to an F-150. Now the wife is looking for something fun. Checking this thing out and a Land Rover Evoque. Just dont completely trust a Land Rover. ( not the best history for reliability )
do a review on the 2015 Chevrolet Subarban LTZ and also i like the front
Long Live The XJ.
I own a Jeep Liberty, and still considering to change it for a new Cherokee Limited, for Financial reasons, do you have any idea of how the limited model compares to the last Liberty Limited model?
in off road terms
Luca A The Cherokee is less capable, most of this is down to the lack of solid axles. The Cherokee also can't be lifted easily due to the drivetrain design.
Alex i love your reviews but u need driving shots
Personally Im a huge fan of this truck. The updated interior looks nice (esp with the sunroof) . The back end looks nice. But the front end is what I can't deal with. Now Its cool to have the LEDs and the Headlights in different peaces. But the Lip that separates the Grill and the bumper makes it look disgusting. It makes this look like a Granny Truck. If they wanted different, put the front of the Liberty on the Cherokee. But this is horrible.
I like the front end design, though i am not a fan of jeep.
The Pontiac Aztec had a more unified grille.
too bad Consumer Reports does not recommend it I really like it I wish it had more cargo room
Alex, whats going on with the Grand Cherokee Project?
I need to get video 3 put together and the filming for video 4 hasn't been done yet. I seem to have no spare time this winter. Yikes!
