- Today we come across a Concrete Mixer Lorry which has tipped over.
We speak to the Police and the Mincrete staff and it soon becomes apparent that we are not very welcome. (WARNING - THE F WORD IS HEARD A FEW TIMES ON THIS ONE)
We make out observations throughout the recovery and we finally see the vehicle pull back onto its wheels.
Due to it being a slow moving situation, I decided to go Live for the first time on the Facebook Page - / djaudits

Please don't give Mincrete any bad reviews for this one, this type of accident could have been caused by many factors combined and the behaviour of the aggressive guy was simply due to him having a very bad day.

DJ I think you were fine. Excited to see something new and clearly interested. The complaints about you giving your own analysis are a mystery to me. You're talking is essentially a verbal recap of what's going through my head. Nowhere did I get the sense that you were saying 'this is what happened' -- you asked questions and seemed open to understanding what occurred, you're just talking outloud as you process through it -- which is fairly normal for your channel. I think you (like myself) thought that the incident possibly could have occurred by an intoxicated driver, hence the questioning of the police and not necessarily taking the drivers version of events as the ground truth.
People seem really offended about thinking that is a possibility. I can't figure why. You're not saying the driver is a bad person, you're simply going with a logical and real possibility. I was pretty frustrated with how disengage the police were as well - they seem to think their job is to stand around, plenty there that could have been don

@@harrymonk6565 You know the police did their job? Without oversight and questioning people will inevitably slack. If the oversight doesn't come from the chain of command then it should come from the public. If they did nothing wrong why wouldn't they answer? That's always the reason they give.
The idea of just blindly accepting authority and that those with powers are properly doing their job is naive. If you want to just go about your day ignoring what is happening - feel free! Auditors and journalist are out there to challenge and dig a little to get to the truth. Sometimes it's messy and it may not always be accurate, but if people can't handle being challenged on the job they're just too fragile to be doing that position.

The driver was polite enough enough to answer DJ's questions and you want to accuse him of drink driving? Plus after DJ believes he has solved the reason for the accident he ignores the fact the driver explained another car was involved.
The reason for removing the prop shaft is they will be towing it once they get it upright. the engine won't be running, and the transmission would over heat if put in neutral and towed.

Police avoid directing traffic as they are then culpable if there's another crash. I tried to direct traffic after a collision in my wagon. Traffic cops said don't do it for that reason

The driver explained right at the start that a car pulled in front of him in the roundabout cutting him off, so he was forced to swerve and slammed on his brakes and tipped over. I really like your videos, but this poor driver is stressed to the hilt. Best to stand aside and not interfere. I don’t like your attitude in this video. Be aware of how people are feeling at a time like this.

That was the bit that made me slap my forehead with a WTF moment ...The Concrete 'boss' is managing two lanes of traffic at a roundabout while the 2 PC's were stood in-between their car and the mixer chatting to each other!! WTAF??? What a pair of ineffectual muppets!
Police seem to have no common sense anymore, and think nothing about sensibly clearing and moving traffic on when a road is blocked, motorways or wherever. It's almost a given they stand around ineffectually. Always wondered if they were told to be as awkward as possible...I've even had to shout at a gormless policewoman once who hadn't a clue and was even trying to motion cars away around an RTC but to a totally unsuitable side road including busses linking to a mainline railway station. Made me so mad. I'm used to Polizei in Germany who come and evaluate and clear the scene quickly including sweeping up the broken glass and mess. Here they spend hours standing around with not the first concept of incommoding people trying to get to work, appts, or airports.

It sounded to me that the driver had to turn sharply to avoid a collision and this led to a loss of control. P.S. I do quite enjoy some of your other videos but I think on this occasion your speculation on the course of the accident was a bit wide of the mark.

I thought this was bordering on unnecessary interference, and the speculation as to the cause of the accident was most likely wrong and misleading. But then again isn't the point of these videos to show that you can go anywhere, and do anything, and say anything that isn't actually illegal? And you're allowed your own opinion, no matter how much others may disagree. If we don't know our rights and stand up for them and exercise them, then we'll lose them. Watch AB's and others' videos from a couple of years ago and compare them to today. These auditors have had a massive effect in educating the police about their powers and our rights.

I mainly wanted to point out that for anyone genuinely interested in what may have caused the accident it frustrated me that DJ spent so much time speculating on his pre-conceived theory and ignored that the driver had mentioned trying to avoid another vehicle. Of course DJ is allowed his opinion, and we are also in the comments.

I once saw a HGV go over on its side in high winds on the M6 in Cumbria. The driver didn't survive the impact. Think a bit of sensitivity to the driver wouldn't have gone a miss.
The driver was fine, happy and smiling all the way through, on his phone, directing traffic.

The guy who swore at you as well as used threatening behaviour was clearly no wanting the bad publicity as i guess he worked for the Concrete Firm.
I was always told that when driving this type of Truck or a Garbage vehicle it is best to go slower around a turn as the centre of gravity is actually higher than if the Truck was empty.
I have seen this twice in my 20 years of driving Trucks and this is due to a lack of training and awareness of the laws of gravity/motion .
I do think the Mouthy man who made threats to injure you should be reported to the Police s9 they can make a record of that illegal threat ; so if he has a habit of doing this he can be prosecuted for the Felony .

Absolutely. The reason they ask amicable questions is to establish if you have committed a crime, if you intend to commit a crime, and if you have the legal concept of Mens Rea. Also note the old PACE caution, "Anything you say may be taken down and used against you" . This rather gave the game away, so they changed it, because what it DOESNT say is "anything you say may be used in your defence", because its never true. The police will never supply you information you can use in your defence, and nothing you say to the police will be of any use to you in court.

He wasn’t turning left at the roundabout. Rather, he went too fast around the roundabout and the weight carried it over. Speed was the cause of this accident.

It's frustrating to hear how you come up with what has happened despite not knowing how the lorry has come to rest where it is, even after the driver has stated that he did a quick right-left turn as a car (assume cut him up) was in way. His English isn't the best so it's hard to fully grasp the story, but it goes straight over your head and you start questioning the other guy with abnormalities about the crash. Try listening instead of always making out you're the definition of perfect.
the rotation of the barrel would have encouraged it to tip over on its other sde , speed almost certainly an issue other than as intimated , the driver took avoiding action ,,,mixers do not react to that favourably ....as for DJ and the like ..PJ etc , you get off on annoying people , when someone asks politly not to be filmed you carry on regardless , just because you have the legal right doesn't make it right., and, you are not a journalist...

if the cement in a cement truck hardens up before it can be unloaded? It will go back to the plant and have to be breakered out or the drum simply written off . Undoubtedly the drivers worse nightmare and loss of earnings as well as insurance claims .

They remove the prop shaft so the gears don’t wind up as you’re towing the vehicle, destroys the gearbox if you don’t

@@paullancaster7066 neutral on a truck works abit different to a car/van so when the prop shaft is still connected it turns the differential behind youre wheel which winds the gears, with the engine off it won’t pump oil round and then about 10-20 miles later it’ll go bang

@@paullancaster7066 Truck in the UK tend to have automated manual gearboxes. Mechanically, it's manual, but computers do the gearchanging as required.
The latest ones even have GPS terrain 'mapping' and choose the best sequence of gearchanges to climb a given hill.

The reason that the propshaft was removed was to isolate the driving wheels form the gearbox. With the engine stopped, there is no oil pressure to lubricate the gearbox so would be damaged when towed. If the vehicle had been upright, one half-shaft from the driven axle would have been removed instead.

The probable reason for unbolting rear propshsft is because a lot of modern trucks are automatic and towing them without the engine running damages the gearbox

@@rogerfrancis65 I'd like to correct you there, you may have worked on vehicles all your life but I can guarantee you that Mercedes Trucks are either Auto or Manual and regardless the driveshaft needs to be removed for towing, the reason being with the manuals they have pumps to circulate oil without that the transmission will overheat very quickly. Most other trucks also have oil pumps for the transmission and the easiest way to work that out is a gauge on the dash to monitor the transmission temp.

There is usually an oil circulation pump inside the gearbox that is run off the input shaft which is no problem when the engine is running. When under tow that pump wont be doing its job and will seize the box up pretty quickly.

I am not saying there are bad police officers or that the police are whiter than white , but his videos deliberately provoke them .I have found that if you answer any questions from the police and give your details they are perfectly fine . Videos can be edited to only show part of teh story and usually never show the events leading up to the part where it shows the police being ' over zealous '. There was a case where someone had shared video footage of a police officer being ' very robust ' when restraining someone . I work in security and hold an SIA license - if my details go into the police national computer I could potentially lose my license as I am CRB checked every 3 years.
The police should be trained to deal with provocation, they should not react, if they do that's on them not the person doing the provoking. That's like a young girl wearing revealing clothing could be provoking someone to assault her and then blaming her for the rape.

I think DJ is just used to seeing placards as well as plates like most of the general public. People don't understand that you only (by law) need orange plates front and rear and placards are nice to have. Under ADR regs at least.

I assume the Load of the mixture had stuck to the internals of the rotating drum. Perhaps on loading the mixture may have not been added in the correct sequence. For instance, adding the cement and any accelerant as a Hardener will leave you on a time limit. Should you be delayed or add the remaining ingredients in disproportionate amounts, ie, Less, it’d leave a heavy concentration of cement. Secondly, I assume the cement and any Accelerants ought to be added last to maximise the time for delivery. There are many factors that may have cause this, even speed or a sticking mixture that may have again loaded in non-sequencial manner. Either way, right now having marginally solidified that load is unsafe on the public road, until the drum is rotated so that the mixture sits to the base of the drum lowest to gravity.
Regarding the ammonium nitrate, he did have the warning sign on the back. It’s that big orange rectangular plate. Placards aren’t required unless shipping by maritime or train

With a concrete truck , at least here in Australia, the barrel rotates in a clockwise direction and the climb on the mix depends on the slump. Slump between 10-35mm we call “roll over slump”. So normally left hand turns are the most problematic.
Ammonium nitrate class 5.1 UN number 2067 it is being carried here with the correct labels on each bagged container and strapped up. Also, the vehicle was displaying orange ADR plates which is correct presuming the driver has an ADR license. It is being carried in individual packages ie large bags so it comes under Packages rules and not Tank rules. There is a big difference. ADR regulations are complex but driver training is quite intensive and requires a week's course in the classroom followed up with exams and quite a few fail.
Never get involved directing traffic.. only 3 designations are legally allowed to do that.. do it and cause an accident and you are liable 👍🏻
