What a monster. And he's not even trying. He just is. Absolute Wecklmania. This is just toooo good to pass. You got me man. SUB SUB SUB. Taught the lesson clearly. No mystery here.
This incredibly supportive, highly complimentary, thoughtful comment’s been sitting here *THREE YEARS* without a ❤️ from this guy … But, for an EMPTY $4 thanks from ONE year ago, he deigns to put a heart on it. That’s all *anyone* needs ta know about this cat’s “character.” 😖👎 🙄
I wished I would have shown an example stringing together multiple group 1's which also sounds super cool (Bonham-ish of course). I showed multiple group 2's but not group 1's. You can hear what it sounds like at 0:07. The hands are split between the floor tom and snare but if you put them all over, it also sounds super cool.
Totally over thought this whole thing!!! I seen you do it at the start and I'm like no way...then you broke it down and I'm like "I can actually do this!" Just gotta keep it cool and calm then slowly speed it up as I become more comfortable with it all. This is insane!!! Thankyou!!
So amazing Steve! I played drums as a teen. I performed some shows in LA Sunset Blvd., got married and focused on the business and stopped playing for way too long. Many years later I joined a country Rock band that I'm current in. We have opened up for some known artists which has been great experience. Other than keeping great timing and some basic fills here and there, I've never have advanced to the next level as a drummer. What you posted and how you demonstrated it for me, is so inspiring and will be the only what I practice until get it down fluidly. Thanks a million for posted this triplet sticking!
Does TH-cam need another drum video? Yes! When they are yours! You are the only drummer on TH-cam demonstrating licks and technique for the advanced drummer. I appreciate it immensely.
Great lesson, thank you. You can hear Gadd had such an influence on guys like Colauita, Weckle.. and the rest of us mortals. Beautiful how drumming gets passed on through the years.
I haven't played in a few years now and your vids have inspired me to practice. I end up hating what i play but then i see some videos that make me think, ok if i practice some simple things maybe ill like what i play and start playing again. You know you can hear the same message from 10 ppl but sometimes it just takes the way someone explains things to make it get thru to you. Cheers bro and thanks. Ive never been great but occasionally i can be ok.
Beautiful example of some simple motifs that you've put together in a very musical way. Applications here are really endless from face melting combos to beautiful melodies with well tuned drums. Thanks man! Very inspiring
Yes, you have god like chops but it sounds musical. It's not fills for the sake of fills. Bloody outstanding, Steve. Can't wait to get behind the kit, once I've got over Covid.
Steve you have to be one of the most under rated drummer in the history, don't get me wrong you are still quite known but the kind of skills you possess you need to be up there with one of the best drummers of this generation.
Thanks very much Steve. Valuable insights here. One of the most “striking” being how relaxed this approach can really be. The power comes along as well, but so much more fluid and creative. Keep up the great stuff! 🙏🏻
Excellent walk-thru, my man! I've been playing for years and hadn't gone down this road with switching up the sticking on triplets the way you described here. Very smooth and very helpful. Thanks for posting!
I love this combination but now adding both feet at the beginning of the lick. Sometimes on my double bass pedal and sometimes the Hi Hat with the left foot. It now makes it a 7 note fill.
Hi Steve. Great lesson again. B.t.way the Hihat variation (left foot r/l) i was familiar with thanx to Rene Creemers a drummer/teacher in the Netherlands and one half of the drum-duo: the DRUMBASSADORS. He also used the Stick Control book as inspiration, meaning pages with groups of three and two. Play eightnotes groups of 3 like Brl or Hrl, 1 group of 2's as rl (unaccented snare/Hihat notes), than 2 (following) groups of 2 played as RlrB (1 accent on the R the first note). It's a different way of using these exercises (out of stick control by G.L Stone), speaking about floodgates.
I've been watching you for a while Steve. You were always competent and better than I am, but it's been awesome watching you get *really* good. This lesson is a great example of how (I think) your playing has improved: it's slick, relaxed and creative. I'm totally practicing this - thanks for adding to my drumming vocabulary :)
Bedankt
Thank you!
Ha I just noticed it says ‘Bedankt’ in my ( Dutch ) language. Anyway you deserve more money…
Hey! I heard Dave Weckl refer to you as a great drummer yesterday! I always knew that, but it was awesome to hear Weckl say it!
Hey Steve, great playing, thanks for all the terrific insight, very helpful! Cheers!
Thank you!
Perfect drum video. No pretension. Just, here's how you do it. Love it.
Exactly.
Fabulous playing! Great Tee!! If Buddy were still here, he'd be wearing a Steve Holmes Tee right now!!!
I feel like you are one of the few drum instructors consistently putting out stuff with doubles in it. It’s just refreshing to hear you play
Great concept. Thanks Steve...
'Scuse me, fellas. I gotta go practice for about a million years. Thank you, Steve.
prior to watching this I was starting to feel a bit of confidence on the drums lol
lol
Ax men
Haha! You win bro....you win! 😂
So true haha
Dude, that's a solid lesson for free right there, ur stoked!
Wow. You’re so good that my ego is completely dead. You’re my internet drum master. You’re so good! Effortless.
What a monster. And he's not even trying. He just is. Absolute Wecklmania. This is just toooo good to pass. You got me man. SUB SUB SUB. Taught the lesson clearly. No mystery here.
WECKLMANIA!!
HAHA I love your phrase "Wecklemaina"--so true.

But, for an EMPTY $4 thanks from ONE year ago, he deigns to put a heart on it. That’s all *anyone* needs ta know about this cat’s “character.” 😖👎 🙄
I watched til the end a hybrid of weckl Gad and buddy

I could never get tired of this.
Unbelievable drummer. One of the very best on TH-cam. Love your videos Steve.
Wow, thanks!
Nice!! ..and there's tons more permutations of this approach! Thanks for sharing Steve.
Steve is the best educator! So many of my
Chops have come from him! Thank you Steve
Your 16th note triplet lesson was a game changer for me years ago. I'm certain this will be the same!
Your motion, your sticking just smooth. Great lesson. Thank you
Totally over thought this whole thing!!! I seen you do it at the start and I'm like no way...then you broke it down and I'm like "I can actually do this!" Just gotta keep it cool and calm then slowly speed it up as I become more comfortable with it all. This is insane!!! Thankyou!!
Love this- let me know if you get it up to speed!
Drums sound awesome

Dude, you're an excellent teacher and an amazing drummer as well. Please keep making videos!
Thanks.one of the most clear and useful explanations ive seen
A nice change from all the matched grip single strokers. Rudiment expertice is the key!!
Omg another incredible lesson from an incredible musician. Steve, you have changed my drumming world, and I can't say thank you enough!!!
I haven't played in a few years now and your vids have inspired me to practice. Don't compare yourself to others too much. You can drum and benefit from it and that's a success in and of itself.
Beautiful playing and an exercise I will develop for my soloing. Thank you!
Beautiful example of some simple motifs that you've put together in a very musical way. Applications here are really endless from face melting combos to beautiful melodies with well tuned drums. Thanks man! Very inspiring
Glad it was helpful!
Wow....so simple yet sounds so awesome
Your drums have gone to another level of great sound !!
I appreciate that!
Fantastic sound & playing Steve 👌
Yea how did you dial in that drum tone? Each sounds phenomenal!
Yep!
Awesome!! Thanks for the pro tip in the triplet linear fills
Simple and very fluid. I love it. Thanks Steve !

Gave this a thumbs up because there's no "love it" option. This is a great lesson, thank you very much for posting!!!
Wow, I have been surfing videos today...this cat is dynamic, clean, and the fluidity is super clean. Thank you man. Great teaching!!!
Yes, you have god like chops but it sounds musical. It's not fills for the sake of fills. Bloody outstanding, Steve. Can't wait to get behind the kit, once I've got over Covid.
Best wishes Gary
Good luck, Gary. Get healthy soon...
Did you get some traction with this Gary??

Beautiful execution and communication!
Super helpful! The title does not disappoint!
Thanks very much Steve. Valuable insights here. One of the most “striking” being how relaxed this approach can really be. The power comes along as well, but so much more fluid and creative.

Super cool way to play those triplets.
Excellent walk-thru, my man! I've been playing for years and hadn't gone down this road with switching up the sticking on triplets the way you described here. Very smooth and very helpful. Thanks for posting!
Great lesson! I never intentionally put those stickings together
Thank you Steve. Excellent!
3d short I picked up on you Steve, just got back in the groove, really enjoy your lessons!
I love this combination but now adding both feet at the beginning of the lick. Sometimes on my double bass pedal and sometimes the Hi Hat with the left foot. It now makes it a 7 note fill.
Great lesson and absolutely SICK sounding kit!

Steve, as usual, just brilliant.

Great quality stuff! Thank you very much for sharing it!!!!
It’s been a long time since I first caught your playing on the original blush-dah video, but your playing still blows me away everytime.
Your playing is top-notch! Subbed.
Wow! Great lesson!
Awesome fill...Love it!
You incredibly smooth technique. Thank you for the video on a pretty classic chop. It revived some ideas and gave me some new ones!
Awesome pattern! Going to work on this!
Hey Steve thanx man! Picked up so much from yur vids that's stuck that I actually can use practically. Practice practice no easy way.
Excellent fill. I use the same sticking, the difference is I play the kick as the last note. so it's RlrllK. Will try this as well.
Nice.. please do a lesson on left foot independence
