I read somewhere that when RTF auditioned Al DiMeola, Chick told him (I think im telling this accurately) "ok, great, you're in, we've got a show tonight, and you're gonna play", Al asks him "what about a rehearsal??" and Chick tells Al "you'll do fine without one" lol!!!

I first listen to Chick in college Jazz band 1980 ish. When I found out about his death I cried. Chick brought happiness and inspiration to me. He will be missed but he did leave us all with the best gift, Music for life.

The POWER of music...what it is that transforms a man's life through the various phases of progression that continues forever...Vinnie w Chick & John in the early 90s when he is dragging that ciggy is EPIC. I think it was that acoustic gig in Florida...BURNING!

So glad you're out there, Vinnie. I don't say this about many people I don't actually know, but I love you, man. The people in this world who help sustain me in so many critical ways just by being who you are: Allan, Chick, Towner, You, Metheny; few and far between. Keep on keeping on.

Thank you Vinnie C. That was beautiful, man.
We all really needed to hear such love. It's the perfect balance to a world in need.
My first introduction to Chick Corea was with his and Stanley's RTF with Lenny and Al.
The recording was "Romantic Warrior"! (How apropos the title now that I reflect).
That recording sent me on a musical quest that never ended.
I had to go backwards from there to fully understand and grasp an education of how they got to being Romantic Warriors. I had to listen to all their independent efforts that stem after that recording.
Chick simply had too much information to complete such a journey for me. That would be a college/Masters course!
    "Fusion" was/is my degree!
Stanley, Lenny and Al musicology were much easier for me to archive.
All in all a beautiful journey. That introduced me to great drummers/persons like yourself!
Thanks again Sir Vinnie C. All of you great musicians and people now have the prefix title "Sir". With respect and admiration.
    RIP Chick.🙏

Thank you Vinnie. I encountered Chick's music in the early '70s (from the mid '60s) in my piano lessons with Now He Sings, Now He Sobs. That record changed my life. He is in the top 3 piano players that have shaped me as a player. I followed Chick and his music through the decades since. What a legacy, but even more, what a human being. Thanks for your perspective and your personal stories of your times with him. BTW, you are in that high strata.

What Chick and Co did for me is there's a difference between love of music and talent for music.
I was a mediocre alto sax player but music is in my blood so I worked really hard to hone my skills.
I saw RTF (Chic, Stanley, Al and Lenny) at the Beacon Theater NYC in '76.
Me and my crew had the entire row, aisle to aisle.
Then they came on stage and played mostly from "Romantic Warrior"
    The lightbulb went off.
Here's these four guys, not much older than us, dressed like they were hanging out
    And
WAS HAVING FUN! You could tell.
    You could tell.
    What did I learn?
Keep your day job but DON'T STOP HAVING FUN. 😎
    [Edit]
    IMHO
"Romantic Warrior" and "Song In The Keys of Life" by Stevie Wonder are two of the greatest bodies of work in a generation...
They are adults now listening to both of them
    And
    So are their kids. 😉

    Sure.
    Incroyable Chick... Incredible Chick.

@@berniz2282 You are entitled to your opinion, but I totally disagree. People express themselves in different ways, and often people who are shy come across as aloof or arrogant. Vinnie, like Chick and other great jazz musicians, was totally dedicated to his craft. I have come across other musicians who appear arrogant, but in fact are humble people when you get to know them (one in particular played briefly with the Elektric Band for example). If Vinnie was so selfish he would not have been able to say such lovely words about Chick.
