Jeremy i love you and your bro's video's.your idea of using a head torch on the second ceiling coat is wonderful, what is the lumens would you recommend,i live in Glasgow Scotland where we have 10 foot high ceilings, thanks for the insightful video's Paul
So I’ve tried a lot of different lights / headlamps. My preferred method is to use a flashlight that can clip to my hat. It’s easy to take on and off and I like how tight the beam is. The one I use now can switch between 1000 and 2500 lumens. You also want a light that’s got a good amount of candela (that’s an indicator of how far the light throws). I like this one currently OLIGHT Baton3 Pro Max 2500 Lumens Rechargeable Compact EDC Flashlights with Safety Proximity Sensor, LED High Lumens Pocket Flashlight for Camping, Hiking and Emergency (Cool White Light: 5700~6700K) a.co/d/aIqvV1N
good video .. i’ve used a 4 inch whizz roller (it naps around the edges) as the cut in as opposed to brushing it on.. may have to brush a touch in the corners.. than normal 9 inch roller like you for the rest
We've just painted our living room and it was the first time I've used a roller on the extension pole to roll the ceiling. I can't understand why people don't like it. It's way better than doing it on a ladder and it's also much quicker.
Hi there. Not usually. We will prime spackle spots or water stains. Also if your using a flat paint for ceilings it should cover spackle spots well enough if you do two coats.
I wanted to paint one accent wall in my bedroom a navy blue and the rest of my walls in Dover White. Do I still paint the ceiling a stock Ultra white color or would I paint the ceiling in Dover White? Thank you
Hi Lisa. It is all personal preference. We typically paint ceilings white or match the ceiling paint to the trim paint. If you like the Dover White and want it on the ceilings then go for it!
We’ve been using a lot of 14inch rollers on ceilings nowadays. The amount of drip is determined by what roller cover you use paired with what product. My current favorite pairing is Promar Ceiling paint from Sherwin Williams with a 14 inch, 1/2 nap Pro-doo Z FTP from Wooster. It’s a solid performer 🤙
Do you guys find yourselves painting over knockdown textured ceilings ever? Do you go about it in the same fashion with a brush cut-in and roll the rest? I am looking into getting Emerald matte on to our bathroom ceilings when we paint them. The builder of our house put SuperPaint flat on the ceilings in there so I dont want to leave it like that for much longer
Yes we have painted over that texture. Depending on how thick the texture is we sometimes will use a mini roller to cut in the perimeter as long as we’re also painting the walls. Then we’ll use a brush to cut in everything else. Brushing works. It just ends up being a bit slower than with regular drywall
Hi Stasy. We haven't had good luck with those paints as one time it stayed pink. Usually we can recoat a ceiling in 2 hours. If you want to be safe wait four hours. Happy painting!
No need to use a thick paint for the ceiling - just get one of those paint roller shields that you mount onto the roller and it protects from most of the paint drops. Using a thick paint is a tradeoff - worse quality vs less mess.

Second coat of cutting in, I've missed that in the past
It's a good way to guarantee a quality consistent finish.

Very nice. The mini rollers can be good for certain cuts, particularly for cutting in ceilings before you’ve done the walls.

Yes indeed! Extension poles for the win!
In general, do I need to prime the ceiling before painting? Or only if one has done some kind of repairwork?

Is it okay to use an 18 inch on the ceiling to cover more or would that cause too much drip ?

Do you not like using the purple/white ceiling paint to help see what is fresh and what is dry?

We’ve had a lot of success with Promar. Minimal splatter and it’s easy to work with.
