    nah that door hinge work was elite. Our flat has like 50 layers of paint on the hinges I'm looking to replace although TEMPTED to paint over although the door is hard to open lol

      Hahaha, it is a bit tricky to paint around the hinges. It's pretty easy to tape them out if you want to do it that way.

    Are you using Duration paint? When should you spring for emerald urethane for trim if ever?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Duration is our favorite paint from Sherwin Williams. We like Duration matte for the walls (finish is more like an eggshell), and Duration semi gloss for the trim. We will use the Urethane when going over slick trim. Urethane can go over oil based paint, but most of the time we prime with the BIN Shellac primer. Hope this helps!

    How much should you sand the trim. Am I just doing a quick once over or getting it down to the wood?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just a once over is fine to get rid of imperfections you don't like. We spend a little more time on doors to make sure they are smooth. If your painting over latex paint, technically you don't have to sand if you don't want to. Good luck Kevin!

    @ 6:50 you. can see some runs that were previously in the trim do you guys not sand stuff like that off??

      This trim was pretty beat. Sometimes you gotta be realistic. We sanded it, but there was a lot of build up all over this trim.

    Hello.
    What color do you suggest for Baseboards and Trims ? High reflective white, Extra white, Deep base ?
    I am paining my whole house so need suggestion. Thank you in advance.

      Hi Arpit. We like using the extra in semi gloss for baseboards and trims. Also 90% of our clients go with extra white as well. Happy painting !

    Do you sand between coats?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not usually. Only if we notice some rough spots.

    • @gianthills
      @gianthills ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sanding between each coat is the way to do it ideally, but it's a light sanding with 150 - 200 grit.

    Did the customer not want you to remove the door knobs and hinges? My "OCD" would never allow me to just paint around the hardware as no matter how much one tries ,paint always gets on the hinges and knobs. It also messes with the direction of the brush marks. Nothing worse than to see circular brush marks around a door knob. Lol 😆

      Good question, some people prefer we take them off. Most don't tho. We've had a lot of issues with old doorknobs where the screws are stripped, and we have had problems getting them back on correctly. Sometimes the doorknobs come off fine and when we put them back on is doesn't latch properly. Luckily we are awesome painters and don't get paint on them. :)

      @@SuperVassarBrothers we charge $20 per doorknob removal…makes it so they either take them off themselves or they tell us to paint around them.
