It seems they only improved the resolution and made everything else worse. Gotta say there are moments that it actually looks better. The high contrast and proper usage of filters make the bosses more dramatic during their cutscenes. But during battle it only highlights the lack of proper lighting and shadow effects (i.e. spotlights only illuminate the floor).
Oh so you can play both versions? Thats fuckin cool then. Hell Imma buy this game right now then. I couldnt play it when it came out cause I was kid and my parents wouldnt have bought it for me. More remasters should do this. Give both versions. More than not I like the original too. It just looks better.
Why does the original look better? The RePop has more technically impressive lighting, but I find the original more pleasing to look at in most of these scenes.

It still looks better overall than the official Remaster on the left The remaster crew definitely did not follow the creator's intent, and we know this because Suda 51 said he was not informed or asked to help with this project

I'm going to be honest, I think the original game in most cases looks better. For those not sure which is which, the left side is the remaster, the right side is the original. There is several instances the Remaster is missing small visual details the original had. Some examples; in the Zed fight the screen originally had a spinny effect filter that's now gone, in the Mariska fight her bubble sheildsare missing some of their effects and the "Bus Pit" the lower buses aren't spinning nor does it have the wavy effect, in the Josey fight the stairs aren't there when the spotlights turn on and when they enter hyperdrive in space his computer console isn't lit up, and in the final boss fight against Killabilly the original had stormy clouds going by while in the remaster the sky is just a black abyss of nothing. The original boss cards with the comic book effect looked better. The color grading is changed and 2/3rds of the time I think the original did it better. There is some small places I think the remaster looks better (a good example is I actually like the look of the Vikke boss fight in the remaster better than the original), but there's others that I think look WAY worse in the remaster too like the Lewis boss fight. Frankly, as a fan of the original, I'm honestly kinda' disappointed.
Wow the OG lock-on reticle actually turns transluscent when you get close so you can see the combat! And there's camera shake while hitting Zed in the OG, looks sick!
The comic effect is still in repop if you play the remastered mode instead of repop mode which is supposed to be stylistically different. Realistically, this video uploader isn't doing an apples to apples comparison and is passing it off like that will be your experience when you have to opt into this version over original.

You can play the original version in the remaster. In the Remaster, it asks you what mode you want, original, or their customized version called repop mode. The video uploader chose the other mode intentionally. This could be a video uploaded with the intent of showing off the changes from the original to repop mode but it is deceptive.
Maybe my eyes are old but I can’t tell the difference because sometimes the left side looks better and the other time the right side does. Pausing repeatedly and I see better textures on the left and sharper details on the right and vice versa. Didn’t even know the right side was new until halfway in.

The left side is using repop mode instead of original mode. If you don't like the stylistic changes of removing the comic style intros, just know you can still have that in the remaster using the original mode that is supposed to be compared to the original.
LMAO both of those are optional, RePop has the Original Mode by default, which keeps the comic intros and blood gore. RePop mode is what you're seeing in the video, but it's optional.

Ill never understand why they changed Zeds voice specifically, and for the love of god why did they change the boss themes. The original themes were so much better than the Repop version. and the worst part is that theres no way to listen to the original themes at all in the repop, its totally gone. Which really makes all the boss battles feel like theyre missing somthing, especially since the new themes dont even match the Bosses. Zed had a punk msi sounding track, Vikke had Viking Metal for his themes, Mariska with Psychedelic rock, Josey had Funky Disco, and Lewis having a kickass rock theme was the best. But it doesnt feel right in the Repop. I just beat the gane too and they barely Credit Jimmy Urine for his voice as Zed since not only did they replace Zeds lines, they still kept some of Jimmys voicelines and it kinda just switched in and out between Jimmy's voice and the new voice.

The reason why Zed's voice changed is because Zed's voice actor and responsible of the original game soundtrack Jimmy Urine was accused of a two-year sexual relationship with a 15-year-old , who accuses him of grooming , molesting and sexually assaulting her repeatedly . The lawsuit against Elektra and WMG was dismissed in full on March 31 , 2023 , and Galus was voluntarily dismissed from the lawsuit on April 26 , 2023 . On March 26 , 2024 , all charges against Euringer were dismissed with prejudice . So that's why Zed's voice actor changed .
Some of the other portions of the game do look nice in the remaster, but as everyone else is saying, it's sad seeing there isn't any of the comic related cutscenes... One thing that i think is interesting is the difference in the Marisa look, in the original Marisa's shields look like actual armored bubbles. While in the remake they look more like soap bubbles.

Cut scene wish the remaster looks better, in other cases the original looks better which is sad. Like the censorship of blood was a bad decision, the zed fought showed a lot such as the shaking effect not being there for some of the chainsaw parts. The graphics look slightly better in some places for Juliet, or the human characters, but the zombies look way better in the original vs the remake. I feel they should have done more work on the remaster, or just fully done a remake on it to get better graphics.
I feel like in some parts the Repop can actually be considered an improvement but when it comes to the lighting in some boss fights and the actual feeling of the game it falls flat, in certain parts its either too bright, too all over the place, or too dark. Looking at this through a neutral stand point they definitely could've just left this game be the way it is since it was perfectly fine on its own imo

Never played that game, but I can tell where lies the trouble : They really didn't remastered the thing. They simply adjusted the overall lights effects ; Luminosity, color saturation, ambiant lighning and shadow contrast, black level, ect... That make some part of the background artificially more advanced, but they still remain the same behind the curtain of shadow they instaured to give more darkness on the screen. And even this contrast between light and dark feel unbalanced sometime. No improvement whatsoever on the textures. And they did the same mistake than Diablo 3 : They provided a game too much colorfull to a context where dull colors have their rightfull place. It's too much colorfull, without any better textures, and I'm guessing that's why people prefer the older version.

Yeah not gonna lie the RePoP version looks got baby down a lot more. the part where she cut the enemy they remove the blood red color effect and replace with black hollow shading and even the part where the Zombie middle finger flip hand got censored and EVEN the Hippy Boss fight while Juliet pulls her chainsaw they even tone it down where the chainsaw is not even TURN ON XD. Good grief..... a lot of remakes are getting baby down for weak crybaby gamers that get offended by tiny things haaaaaa.............. They should learn a lot more in the SPACE MARINE II game
It‘s clearly the original game, so the ps3/360 version. You notice this if ya pay attention to details like lighting and for example the psychedelic zombies arena, where in the original the lower busses were moving, in the remaster they are all just still like bricks.

Never played that game, but I can tell where lies the trouble : They really didn't remastered the thing. They simply adjusted the overall lights effects ; Luminosity, color saturation, ambiant lighning and shadow contrast, black level, ect...
That make some part of the background artificially more advanced, but they still remain the same behind the curtain of shadow they instaured to give more darkness on the screen. And even this contrast between light and dark feel unbalanced sometime.
No improvement whatsoever on the textures. And they did the same mistake than Diablo 3 : They provided a game too much colorfull to a context where dull colors have their rightfull place. It's too much colorfull, without any better textures, and I'm guessing that's why people prefer the older version.
Won't lie. I dig the repop version.

Yeah not gonna lie the RePoP version looks got baby down a lot more. the part where she cut the enemy they remove the blood red color effect and replace with black hollow shading and even the part where the Zombie middle finger flip hand got censored and EVEN the Hippy Boss fight while Juliet pulls her chainsaw they even tone it down where the chainsaw is not even TURN ON XD. Good grief..... a lot of remakes are getting baby down for weak crybaby gamers that get offended by tiny things haaaaaa.............. They should learn a lot more in the SPACE MARINE II game

I have a question. Is the one on the right the original version like if he using the Xbox 360/ps3 console or is it the original mode in the remaster?
It‘s clearly the original game, so the ps3/360 version.
You notice this if ya pay attention to details like lighting and for example the psychedelic zombies arena, where in the original the lower busses were moving, in the remaster they are all just still like bricks.
And the ps3 version in the gameplay can be seen via achievements
Another thing the poster failed to mention is this repop is Xbox & this original is ps3. Ya know Xbox is inferior, right? Try both on the same system👍. & I’ll subscribe 😊
