The graphical fidelity of the remake does play a role in eroding the look of original but not as large a role as some here are arguing. To me, the crucial difference is in the art direction. The original game’s visuals are filthy. Mould, dirt and rust permeate every environment. Enemies are filthy and covered in stains. Everything looks like it’s been in sitting in landfill for a decade. The first thing we see rendered in-game is a filthy urinal. There’s even a heavy film grain effect laid over the image. The original game is obsessed with filth and it colours the entire game. @@hemogoblin69 what you saw is only the part left from the original, a lot was either removed or smoothed out. What nonsense. Nothing was removed. I player tge original many times. The only thing that was SLIGHTLY less graphic was Pyramid Head with the manequins.
From an artistic perspective, both hold up in their own ways with different deliveries, but the remake plays better (despite frame rate stutters, but that can be fixed). I’m just happy to see that a remake was made and another may be made soon because of the success
I really don't like pyramid head moving, he doesn't look ominous or creepy, just some weird huge monster with the knife, but not a damn king of the personal hell.
The old PS1, PS2 games had almost auto aim on. You just shot straight into enemies without actually aiming. I'm really glad the remake gives you the actually ability to shoot usefully.
Both look amazing and I especially like the redesign of the abstract daddy fight but I do have to say the limited graphics of the orignal do add to the eeryness of the enemies.
seeing this, showed me i am not blind by nostalgic feelings.... i love the old camera angles so much more...i am photo and videographer and a great disturbing view could do so much more then this "boring over shoulder each game has crap" view.
This seems to be an Ocarina of Time 3D situation, where the gameplay is better, but some of the atmosphere is lost thanks to newer and cleaner visuals.
Abstract daddy character model was kinda disappointing I see were Bloober Team wanted to go, changing Maria outfit, changin the "see I'm warmth" scene, changing first and second encounter with PH... Those guy were just afraid of "modern audiences" acussing them or some of that shit people from those circles like to do At least they delivered the message and the really interested will go and play the original game
They sure went overboard with Eddie's design. They just missed making his baseball cap red and have him screaming "MILLIONS MUST DI-!" as his dying words.
The bosses are much better in the original in every aspect with the exception of Eddie that was fantastic in the remake, eveything else the original was just much more atmospheric. The room of Angela boss fight is opressive in the original in the remake is just a series of generic rooms to yoyu run around. The boss rooms and the introduction of the bosses is just so good in the original that remake feel just cheap.
Why did they replace the Abstract Daddy room? The remake room looks like a generic arena whereas the original room was creepy and haunting because of the implications.
@@SeriousDragonify they did. The original room was very claustrophobic and too close-quarters-ish. It implies something… The small room was obviously a child’s room hence why it was small. The remake looks like it has a lot of breathing room, probably to accommodate the new fighting and dodging mechanics when facing off against the Abstract Daddy. The original was so small that you can see Angela huddling in the corner afraid.
The original room was just a boring room full of "sexual subtexts", not at all subtle. In short, a boring place in terms of gameplay and really in thematic setting. The new one is undoubtedly a noticeable improvement in visual language, lore and playability. We see Angela's house being destroyed and burned as we advance in the game, Abstract Daddy looks more and more burned due to what Angela did in the house and it doesn't help that as we advance through the house we hear Thomas Orosco say disgusting things insinuating what he said to his daughter. Also the enemy improves noticeably because Abstract Daddy grabs you and doesn't let go, making you feel how Angela must have felt at the time. Saying that the original was better is undoubtedly the fault of nostalgia. All bosses in the original were quite poor, either due to the limitations of the time or any decision, I'm glad that bloober realized that we are in 2024 and we have advanced in terms of playability.
@@barricadedpurifier They literally have a super narrow closet with a blanket which implies a child had to stay in there. And they have the holes and things on the ceiling doing a thrusting motion. Just because they have no cyliners going moving inside holes does not mean it is not there. Abstract Daddy, the literal walking bed with two people on it is also still there.
@@Cetra29 Not talking about the holes. If you read my other reply, I was talking about the “arena.” I liked how tight spaced and claustrophobic the original was. I missed how on the bottom of the screen, you can see her there. I’m saying that it was probably changed to be more spacious to accommodate the new combat mechanics.
Eddie’s fight in Remake was actually much creepier, like my God, ITS SO DARK! Thank God at my first playthrough I decided to turn off radio the moment I got it. With it turned off it actually helped me hear his running step not to mention there is next phase by him shooting pipe to create gas noise and then moving the meat pieces on final phase
Old version is way, way better. Better atmosphere, gameplay, camera angles and OST. On the remake it looks like a Resident Clone with over the shoulder camera angle, heavy on action and a shit load of enemies making the survival part of the game non-existent. Now go ahead and call me a boomer normies.
I think all bosses looks great except for Abstract Daddy, actually looks kinda low quality and they did not succes to replace the atmosphere that the fixed camera gave at the original. Also, was disapointing the scenario in the first fight with Pyramid Head, quite generic, the original was simple but unique and I don't understand why they removed pyramid head fucking the mannequin on the cutscene of the fight.
i am almost certain anyone hating on the remake for being inferior to the original SH2 has played neither or gets all of their experience from a youtube video that showcases a couple minutes of a boss fight instead of the whole thing. the remake is definitely an improvement on the original. i admit some faults in the gameplay are present but for me, this is the definitive way to experience the story of silent hill 2.
I still prefer the original. The combat in the Remake is too action-packed. The areas where you fight bosses are too spacious. They don't convey that claustrophobia, that feeling of being in danger with something you don't even know what it is in a small space. And what really gets me about the Remake is the voices of the characters. They sound dead. There's no emotion. Eddie is the best in that sense. Angela and James are zombies. I don't like it at all 😐.
couldnt agree more, initially thought the game was gonna suck, but changed my view aftering completing the game on normal difficulty, truly a masterpiece
Forget that the new generations that play or played the most recent Resident Evil (Re8, Re2 and 4 remake) never played Silent Hill or practically any other Survival Horror from the golden age of PS2 (Fatal Frame, Alone in The Dark or Clocktower).

In the remake: - Eddie goes down with one jab during cutscene. - Eddie keeps running around after getting repeatedly blasted by a shotgun. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
The camera angels used for the remake cutscenes aren’t very imaginative. Also the background is insanely dark which makes it look like the characters are hanging out in the void.
I'm sorry sometimes nostalgia becomes blinding. People are saying the original is still better because of the limitations and the fidelity? The atmosphere, characterization and themes have all been enhanced and amplified by modern systems. The OG is good but playing this feels just as sinister if not more so because they are mocapped. Maybe remakes need to die if this is what's going to happen every time no matter the effort put in.
I know its annoying/ said a billion times but that Ps2 pyramid head scene is so fucking freaky. I know we can't do anything risqué 'these days' even if its only implied ...but its still so effective. I know they didnt change too much in the ph intro scene in the remake and even added some cool edits (I love ph's 'reaction' to getting 'shot', its definitely a good kind of odd). I really love the remake a lot! I just get so irritated by Ph's 'freak erasure' -- id bet my hat its a konami or playstation corporate note. They'd rather have him standing around looking like a funko pop Some of my fave edits have to be the Flesh lip fight however! feels like an actual fight in the remake instead of 2 assets just sitting there. I think fans of the remake getting triggered by original fans giving fair criticism to the remake are more insufferable than the OG fans who prefer the original because of nostalgia. If he prefers the original VA, let him live...
Thanks for the video comparison. Still, no matter how hard you look at it, the remake came out worse compared to the original. I'm not a fan of super dume realistic graphics or easy controls. I'm not a gamer neither. However, thanks to the internet, I can look at these games from all angles without even going into them once. Silent Hill 2 is a game with depth, not just in the story, but in everything. The voice actors have character and not just for their lines, but the voice itself. Their voices are distinctive and interesting. The mimicry of the characters has also gotten worse. It's flat. It was painful for me to look at Angela. The moment where she spills out all the emotions she has accumulated over the years of humiliation, violence and abuse - nothing. In the original, thanks to the composition of the frame and the lighting with strong shadows, everything is much more palpable. There I can feel her pain through absolutely everything. To remove the sexual overtones from the same monsters was extremely inappropriate, as far as I'm concerned. After all, that was part of the story. Something that added clues to reveal the characters' problems. It's not just about one moment. It's about everything. The remake stupidly lost all the depth and fear, creating only a beautiful cover and that is for the amateur. Now everything is so cleaned up that there is nothing to look at. I'm just sad about it all.
I agree, for example the legendarny scene "anyway" with maria is much better directed in OG. The emotions anger and frustration on Maria face is better done in the original than remake in this particular scene
yes the remake feels sanitized and over produced.. I cant watch the cutscenes without constantly being aware of the painfully forced voice acting trying to sound raw and emotional
Been playing the remake of SH2 and must admit I think its amazing.. its creepy and the puzzles and gameplay is great. Compared to RE4 remake this is way better in my opinion. The bosses look twisted unlike the giant tumours with heads in RE4
Remakes bosses are nice. Just wish it wasn't aimed at "Modern audiences" Also the og did some scenes better. The elevator when maria dies, In the remake he just moves on where, The OG he gave up and was in despair which was way more impactful. It's like a 6/10 after goin back through.
The original feels like a horrible nightmare, the new one like a typical modern horror game. Proof that master pieces can be made only one time and my accident.
Remake is better Not only the bosses are better but the normal enemies are better too. In the remake mannequins hide and ambush you and the nurses even counter attack Better and scarier than the original
Agreed, the enemies aren't a bunch of norons. You actually need to use some braincells to deal with them. I thought - knowing Konami and how they operate - they would just make the game look good and would be literally the same gameplay as the original. I'm surprised and glad I was wrong.
Yall can have your own opinions but Eddie is by far wayyyyy better in the remake. I can actually empathize with him and felt sad when he went to a point of no return.
So? They made Eddie into a kind of kid with that attitude? What was the point of censure it and just made him a psychopath? He was that, that's the point of how he acts there
Konami is afraid that they'll get shamed on by the woke community or the basement dweller degenerates on twitter/reddit, which is understandable cause they're trying to make a comeback after giving slop after slop quality of games.

The developers were obviously very afraid that they would be accused of objectifying women or something like that, it was not for nothing that they turned to the consulting company "sweet babies" for help.
Could you please point out a couple of instances of that? I didn't get to play the remake yet.
What nonsense. Nothing was removed. I player tge original many times. The only thing that was SLIGHTLY less graphic was Pyramid Head with the manequins.
Sweet baby inc doing
From an artistic perspective, both hold up in their own ways with different deliveries, but the remake plays better (despite frame rate stutters, but that can be fixed). I’m just happy to see that a remake was made and another may be made soon because of the success
piramid boy eat cake? 🗿
That's the minimum they can do considering they don't have the and hardware limitation
Gotta time your dodges/rolls precisely or pyramid head will cut you with his anime blade
Uncensored version on release when?
I didnt realize how much grimier the original was. I wonder why they made it look so much cleaner
the sound design is incredible in the remake!
SH2 remake is good but the original one was a masterpiece
Both look amazing and I especially like the redesign of the abstract daddy fight but I do have to say the limited graphics of the orignal do add to the eeryness of the enemies.
seeing this, showed me i am not blind by nostalgic feelings.... i love the old camera angles so much more...i am photo and videographer and a great disturbing view could do so much more then this "boring over shoulder each game has crap" view.
Someone should make a mod where james tells eddie "the town is full of monsters, how are you sitting here and eating pizza"
Nice both and the remake is beautiful! 😍
This seems to be an Ocarina of Time 3D situation, where the gameplay is better, but some of the atmosphere is lost thanks to newer and cleaner visuals.
Original seems better to me
I prefer the voice acting of Angela, Eddy in the Original. Probably prefer Mary's voice acting in the Original too.
The OG voices were all terrible, flat, and no emotion
Why does Maria boss suddenly become a goth chick in remake
What's bad with goth chicks lol?
It's just me or the old version look creepier than the new one ?
Abstract daddy character model was kinda disappointing
I see were Bloober Team wanted to go, changing Maria outfit, changin the "see I'm warmth" scene, changing first and second encounter with PH... Those guy were just afraid of "modern audiences" acussing them or some of that shit people from those circles like to do
At least they delivered the message and the really interested will go and play the original game
Hopefully modders who actually care about the message of the game will fix those changes.
The original James goes more with the story, he has a depraved face
The new version looks too clean
They didnt.
Just made different into advanced combat.
Those things on wall exist.
Those are two different games. Look at this like it was between the first game and shattered memories
Much censorship and loss of essence
Eddie’s fight in Remake was actually much creepier, like my God, ITS SO DARK! Thank God at my first playthrough I decided to turn off radio the moment I got it. With it turned off it actually helped me hear his running step not to mention there is next phase by him shooting pipe to create gas noise and then moving the meat pieces on final phase
Nothing beats the original but I do like the remake ! They did great :) long time silent hill fan here
Old version is way, way better. Better atmosphere, gameplay, camera angles and OST. On the remake it looks like a Resident Clone with over the shoulder camera angle, heavy on action and a shit load of enemies making the survival part of the game non-existent. Now go ahead and call me a boomer normies.
I agree with you in everything
I think all bosses looks great except for Abstract Daddy, actually looks kinda low quality and they did not succes to replace the atmosphere that the fixed camera gave at the original. Also, was disapointing the scenario in the first fight with Pyramid Head, quite generic, the original was simple but unique and I don't understand why they removed pyramid head fucking the mannequin on the cutscene of the fight.
for the same reason that all the characters were made less sexy.
The original creators said that pyramid head never did anything like that
They did not remove anything because he never did that to begin with. Do not copy youtube lore videos. Copy Masahiro Ito.
@@Cetra29 I've played the original couple of times, if Masahiro Ito said that I don't know, I'm just saying what I saw
@@SergeyGordienko what is the reason?
The moment when Eddie cry "CORPS CAN'T LAUGH" during shots is incredible. Really shows how this guy is mad because of his psychological problems.
i am almost certain anyone hating on the remake for being inferior to the original SH2 has played neither or gets all of their experience from a youtube video that showcases a couple minutes of a boss fight instead of the whole thing.
the remake is definitely an improvement on the original. i admit some faults in the gameplay are present but for me, this is the definitive way to experience the story of silent hill 2.
you're a moron who never got the appeal of the og
Original is still much better
It's amazing to me how few people/players ever shoot the hanging hand from the Flesh Lip boss.
Voice acting is better than the original. James was upgraded a lot, he feels more real and not like a goofball with bad voice acting.
nostalgia strikes again
I prefer the original, but adore the remake. It isn't perfect, but they pretty much did it justice, which is kinda rare in remakes.
Eddie's face is not as expressive as the original.
great game. glad games like this still come around
if you love Resident evil go play it XD, They are different worlds. Period ;) Just finished the game and i can say is a 10/10.
couldnt agree more, initially thought the game was gonna suck, but changed my view aftering completing the game on normal difficulty, truly a masterpiece
Forget that the new generations that play or played the most recent Resident Evil (Re8, Re2 and 4 remake) never played Silent Hill or practically any other Survival Horror from the golden age of PS2 (Fatal Frame, Alone in The Dark or Clocktower).
It's supposed to be silent Hill, not resident evil
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Just exit your RE mind man, you can't compare one game with another if you don't understand both history lines. I love RE and i didnt even think about it while playing SH2R 👌🏻
In the remake:
- Eddie goes down with one jab during cutscene.
- Eddie keeps running around after getting repeatedly blasted by a shotgun.
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Jab > Shotgun, Rifle
@@rustyth3575 the fist is mightier than the shotgun
Ah yes the mighty James punch the only thing pyramid head truly fears
ikr it's almost like i'ts fiction or some videogame sh1t, weird.
@@Kel_po i know, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight??!?!
The camera angels used for the remake cutscenes aren’t very imaginative.
Also the background is insanely dark which makes it look like the characters are hanging out in the void.
OG Pyramid Head scene was 😳😳😳😳😳
I'm sorry sometimes nostalgia becomes blinding.
I bet no one saw that boss from SH3 coming 😅😂
man they really did modernize Pyramid head, James doesnt even call Laura a stupid brat lmao
They'd rather have him standing around looking like a funko pop
Some of my fave edits have to be the Flesh lip fight however! feels like an actual fight in the remake instead of 2 assets just sitting there. The diffnt phases were a crazy good surprise
Here we go, RE2 remake discussions all over again.
Happens with every remake. Things are a clear improvement and people still hate it.
@@snakeeater6738graphics improvement doesnt = better game .. thats all this remake had to offer in the grand scheme of things, and the OG graphics were a huge part of the games unique atmosphere and charm. not hard to get why people dont care for the remake
@@babysam3768you are so out of Touch from reality saying "not hard to get why people dont care for the remake" meanwhile it Sold over a Millionen now and blooper said they think of making more silent hill games through the success of it. Kinda sad how "Fans" like you from the original arent able to truly appreciate this awesome remake in its entirety. I bet 100% u didnt played the remake at all or didnt played it till the end. It is such a improvement of so many things. The Boss fights arent anymore just running to the corner and snail pyramid head is comming at you while you shoot invisible bullets at him while just standing. Its way more Dynamic now. People like you really dont appreciate things for a stubborn reason.
@@babysam3768 "people don't care about the remake" wtf dude 🤣there are a lot more people who love it than those who “don't care” but obviously, the critics make more noise.
@@BlankBlank-b8x you literally cut off the first half of my sentence lmao. I said NOT HARD TO GET WHY people don’t care for it. I didn’t say nobody cares for it. Reading comprehension.
The way how SH2 remake transitions from boss fight to cutscene is not smooth at all, especially the Abstract Daddy.. you're fighting it in a secluded space with a giant fan blocking the path then when it dies, it goes back to Angela's room. Wtf? They did a half assed job
Why couldn’t they keep the old dialogue, I got a mini headache when I was looking left and right constantly with the subtitles lol
Even if this remake was amazing, you can't beat the iconic original. Some of the cutscenes and voice acting were much better in the original.
Voice acting? Really?
Bro
the same thing can be said about the remake lmao; people always treating the original games like they were flawless
@@The-Deaditethat’s what I’m saying. I’m tired of these cornballs just blatantly lying. The voice acting was bad in the og.
😮 nop
I think fans of the remake getting triggered by original fans giving fair criticism to the remake are more insufferable than the OG fans who prefer the original because of nostalgia. If he prefers the original VA, let him live...
PS2 FTW.
Se ve más tétrico en el original por la ambientación y la sangre
"DAMN, THAT FAT BOI GOT HANDS!"
people complain about everything. This remake was awesome better in many ways even the creator loves it.
El clasico tiene mejores dialogoa
Can't have nothing remotely sexual in our 18+ games.
Been playing the remake of SH2 and must admit I think its amazing.. its creepy and the puzzles and gameplay is great. Compared to RE4 remake this is way better in my opinion. The bosses look twisted unlike the giant tumours with heads in RE4
It’s just too clean now.
I would LOVE the DLC to have Angela going through Silent Hill as well as Born from a Wish, I really want to play her silent hill
Abstract daddy room is much better in the original. Apart from that I like the remake.
Remake is only good nothing more. Original was first and remake is only reinterpretation of original.
Kinda middle finger to them, we been trying to help them ,why they so mean to us..........
Bruh you skipped the part where James screams in the remake 😅
Oh I bet the skin swap for eddie to jimmy desanta already been made.

Not only the bosses are better but the normal enemies are better too. In the remake mannequins hide and ambush you and the nurses even counter attack
Better and scarier than the original

Agreed, the enemies aren't a bunch of norons. You actually need to use some braincells to deal with them.
I thought - knowing Konami and how they operate - they would just make the game look good and would be literally the same gameplay as the original. I'm surprised and glad I was wrong.
Yall can have your own opinions but Eddie is by far wayyyyy better in the remake. I can actually empathize with him and felt sad when he went to a point of no return.
Sure is uglier that's for sure...
No
Yes it is
The original is still so much better.
I don't blame you for just being able to play the remake on youtube
