BLT Pizza

  • Happy National Pizza Day!! In this episode, Dave shows you how to make a fantastic BLT pizza that everyone will love, because bacon makes everything better. This pizza is both simple to make and oh, so tasty. Enjoy.
    BLT Pizza
    Dough:
    3¾ cups flour
    1 pkg dry instant yeast
    2 tsp salt
    1 tsp sugar
    1½ cups cold water
    1 Tbsp oil
    Toppings:
    ½ cup ranch dressing
    6-8 slices thick cut bacon
    2 cups (8 oz) grated mozzarella cheese
    2 medium ripe tomatoes, diced
    ¾ cup shredded lettuce
    Dough:
    • Whisk together the flour, yeast, salt and sugar.
    • Add the water and oil and mix until all the flour is combined.
    • Cover and let rise at room temperature until doubled in size (overnight).
    Pizza:
    • Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
    • Preheat oven to 500°.
    • Stretch the dough into a 12” disk and place in a baking sheet.
    • Spread the ranch dressing over top of the dough, leaving a 1” border, then sprinkle the cheese over the dressing, and top with ⅔ of the crumbled bacon.
    • Bake 10-15 minutes unto crust is golden and the cheese is turning brown in spots.
    • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
    • Sprinkle the shredded lettuce on top. Top with diced tomato and the remaining bacon.
    • Slice and serve warm.

    I've worked in a lot of kitchens . Some we made homemade dough, some store bought , now the way Ive always done this pizza was : dough, mix shredded cheddar and mozz, bacon, more cheese .... Oven. Straight outta that oven I'd let 'er rest a moment, shredded lettuce, diced tomato , and mayo on top out of a sauce bottle with a super precise tip, the drizzle I always thought was so appealing .. absolutely phenomenal. .. I've yet to try using the mayo as an actual base sauce, I will have to give it a whirl one of these days.... Or even a garlic aoli type thing would be delicious. 👍

    You asked about the cheese preference during the video. We rarely use bagged shredded cheese. The anti-caking agent or cellulose that’s added is something we want to avoid. Cellulose is actually made from wood.
