St. Bernards are amazing breed when you see them in person, I know your channel likes Cane Corsos or the typical breed we think of working dogs, but these breeds stand the test of time. They were used to keep the giant breeds alive and are very formidable
Zeke, thank you so much for putting a spotlight on the work these people do, and for featuring rescue dogs. As much as we love to celebrate and focus on specific breeds - it's a huge reason why many of us are fans of your channel! - I really appreciate that you're showing the consequences of what happens to the dogs we love so much, purebred or not, when falling under irresponsible ownership or unfortunate circumstances. I hope that you continue to integrate more documentaries on breed-specific rescues into your channel.
You can tell these women are doing what they love. They also emphasize on training at an early age and regular exercise these two things will make a happy pet home. The lady with the German accent made a very important point about breeders and breeding in general, she is against back yard breeding or puppy mills type but pro breeding dogs for a purpose ie work, any kind of work. Love the fact this video draws attention to adoption without putting down breeding for a purpose and purebreds in general. Thank you ladies!!! I say both adopt and buy your dog of choice, you can do both as long as your a good dog parent. Love, love, love the two St. Bernard👏👏👏
What neat ladies! Thanks for sharing their story with us! Gorgeous dogs! They really know what they are talking about too. Most dogs are not for everyone one and any time a breed is featured in a film it means bad news for that breed. Saint Bernards had the unfortunate circumstance of being featured in a series and I can only imagine the turmoil that resulted for responsible breeders and enthusiasts that followed.
A well exercised dog is a well behaved dog. Saint Bernards are great dogs if raised properly. Beautiful property. Maybe someday I will own enough property that I could do what they are doing. Watched the video straight through. These ladies are amazing.
This is an amazing video. Cinematography is on point. The information given is on point. These ladies are wonderful. Unlike anyone you've had on the channel. Thank you for shedding light on their program. Great work, Zeek! (Sorry if I spelled your name incorrectly)
This was a great video! I have a St. Bernard mix puppy and already see that I need to stay on top of her. But she will be a lovely member of our family in the end. I wish this video could have been a bit longer with more stories of what happened to your rescued dogs once they left your ranch.
I do fully agree with you. St. Bernard are one of perfect family pets to own. Gentle , playful, protective of family , great with children , they get along with pets and extremely loving to whole family. Our Oscar’s best friend was black tuxedo cat named Samson. They are easily trainable from puppy age. Only negative is slobbering but it didn’t matter to my family since we had all carried hand towels to clean his face.
Our Saint is a huge cuddle bug. These ladies don't lie though, vet and food bills are crazy high. He also loves to exercise, especially when it's cold outside. -10F seems to be his favorite temperature, just lays in a snow pile outside.
Totally agree. All my dogs have been come from shelters. All have issues, but I consult a behaviourist and sort the problem out and then they have a great life with me.
This is wonderful informative video. I love St. Bernard since I had purebred Oscar in my childhood. He was gentle, playful and protective dog who had fully bonded with me even if he was my brother’s dog. He had save me from carjacker who had tried come through my car window at our house. He had jumped over our backyard fence to wrestle and attacked carjacker out of my car window. He had moved between me and carjacker who had finally ran off with half ripped off hooded black jacket when he was let go by Oscar. He was very protective of me since he was puppy. I do miss him a lot after these many years.
Another well presented video. Production quality is excellent . I especially like the choice of music which complements the tone of the presentation along with the slow motion footage. Keep up the good work
@@ismailmuhammad3522 Thank you for the compliment. It's a Spanish Mastiff ( officially Mastin Espanol). great breed if you can deal with the drooling and constant hair shedding.
Poor me, I thought that Goldies had the only paintbrush tails. The St. Bernards take the trophy. The work that you wonderful ladies are doing is so needed. Thank you for all that you are doing for these wonderful creatures.👏🏽🐾🐶
😢 It's so true, it all comes down to socializing, training, giving your dog a purpose that they were intended to fulfill or just give them love and stability. Just like a child.😊
I must say, this is one of my favorite videos of yours, if not my favorite!! I love the story, Saint Bernards and I really, really love the cinematography and the music...🔥🔥. Very very well done!!
Beautifully done. I learned a lot, enjoyed seeing the dogs out in a natural environment and the quality of the video was excellent. Rescue is both hard and heart-warming work; bless those like K-9 Heroes who do it well.
I'm so glad that the women acknowledged how important and helpful a good permanent pack dog/dogs can be when it comes to rehabilitating dogs. I used to rehabilitate traumatised dogs through a rescue organisation and my kelpie, who was a rescue dog himself, was very instrumental in helping the dogs that came to us. My son was great as well. He's in his twenties now and grew up with rehab dogs from the age of four (never unsupervised, of course) and so understands and knows how to handle and read dogs. I don't do rehab fostering anymore because of health issues but after losing my lovely kelpie and my rehabilitated puppy mill mum that came to me as a foster and that I ended up keeping at the ages of 17 and 16 respectively, about two years ago, I've just adopted a little bloke who had been out on trial a few times and had been brought back because of behavioural issues. He's been with me three weeks now and the issues are all but resolved and he's a much happier, much less stressed, friendly boy who just needed a little TLC, rehab and training. He's a small dog and, apart from feeling insecure due to losing his original owner and then being shunted through several short term fosters and out on trial then sent back a few times, most of his issues came from the standard mistakes people make with small dogs. Too many people allow small dogs to exhibit aggression that wouldn't be tolerated in a larger dog, and even unknowingly encourage it by "comforting" them, which gives positive re-enforcement to that behaviour, rather than teaching them that aggression is unacceptable and rewarding calm, sociable behaviour, thus helping them learn to de-escalate for themselves. Charlie and I, Gin Gin the cat (another rescue critter) and my son and his family are well on our way to all being great mates. That two years was the longest I've gone in my life without a dog (I got my fix from my next door neighbour's staffie, who I've puppy sat for since she was tiny, and my son's dogs but it's not the same) and I love having a doggie mate again :)
I had a 140lb male Saint that was calm and stable. A true Alpha who felt no need to challenge any dog but who would “remind” unruly dogs to behave if needed. They are wonderful pack leaders!
Yes! Please make videos featuring service dogs. I know there seem to be many Labs working to assist people with disabilities but I would love to see videos with big dogs assisting people with physical disabilities
I had four of St.Bernards. Great dogs I must say. We got our first as an adoption one. Caesar was a big old dog weighing almost 100kgs and tall. He was agressive dog yet too cute to handle. We kept him at our dairy farm as a guard dog for night. Everybody would fear him. My grandpa and Caesar became like best friends. He would roam freely at night, no fear of leopards and hyenas. Later we bought another 3 directly from Bern, Switzerland. I have never seen a breed more wonderful than Saints. My only concern is that here in India they can't get along well in Summer unless they sleep in water and me shaving their fur. I am now looking for other breed like Borboel and Presa Canario and Dogo Argentino or Fila Brasiliero.
I have a sweet Saint Bernard. Bear is huge, at three years old he is approaching 160 pounds. His father is over 210 pounds. Indeed, having a Saint is not cheap. I cook for two, and Bear will eat more than I do. Saints shed their hair twice per year, in addition to their routine shedding. Yes, he will hop onto a couch and drive it one foot across the floor. They drool. A lot. They require constant attention and love, and will absolutely melt your heart. Yes, I rescued Bear, and in return he has rescued me. I am constantly cleaning Bear fuzz, and love every minute of it. How about an update, two years later. I feel I must elaborate. I also found a home for Bear's brother, he is happy in Oregon. If you understand the history of the breed, they are named after the Saint Bernard's hospice in Switzerland. They are rescue dogs. They can locate a trapped victim in avalanches. I am an old fire captain. I joined the fire service in the spirit if Saint Florian. Not for adulation, but for the need. I cannot overemphasize how wonderful it has been to have a Saint Bernard. Two paragraphs ago, and two years, I meant what I had said. This happy dog has been a blessing! A key point here. Saint Bernards are quite powerful, and they are smart. If I chastise Bear, or if he sees my disappointment, he is crushed. Thus, you might see the difference. They are very sensitive. I must attest, a Saint Bernard requires protein. Well, I love my Saint. As I type this, I am cooking two New York steaks. This is part of his diet. He must have protein. Chicken. Beef. If you could see his happiness over enjoying a steak, you might understand. It is expensive, folks. Again, I cook for two. My daughters are all grown up. Yet, I remain sharing dinner with a huge dog. And yes, I enjoy every minute of it.
You ladies are amazing. My saints get so much attention, people always saying...I want one of those....I spend my time talking them out of it. They are my life, but definitely not for the faint hearted!
I totally agree with this vid as a former Saint owner. Massive homebodies, their whole existence is protecting and being a part of the family. Incredibly gentle noble and majestic but you must have the psychological advantage and they need to know you are the pack leader as hard to take out into the world otherwise. They are SO STRONG and if something captures their attention they will go investigate whether you like it or not. Vet work?Times it by 4 of every other dog. Food Bill? They cost as much to feed as a 20 year old adult male who has a very physical job.. I havent even mention the fur or slobber..it epic.
Great video, they do amazing work. I'd love a St. Bernard, but I know in my heart I don't have enough room or time. These ladies confirm it. My younger brother Patrick and I got a black Labrador retriever pitbull mix named Maggie from the Oregon humane society back on June 22nd 2013 she was 9 years old we had her for 5 wonderful years until August 20th 2018 when she passed away from cancer she was 14 years old 😢💔 She was our first dog ever
Excellent, beautifully done video. I love these women and all they are doing. Great insight into the Saint Bernard breed. The only thing I would change is lowering the volume of the background music...wee bit too loud for me.

The cost really depends on the saint. They very so much in size. They can be as small as 80lbs or as large as 260lbs. Which dogs over 200lbs are pretty rare. Most are 100 to 180lbs. Smaller saints eill pbviously live longer, have fewer health issues and less expensive vet bills. The 200 lbs monsters think of taking care of two large 100 lbs dogs. They need larger doses of shots and heartworm. So they are generally more expensive. Grooming you can do yourself with some training and research. They fo need to be socialised, get them around as many people as possible and other dogs. So they do not have issues with strangers. They do also need training early. This dog can pull you down the street if you do not teach them to not pull. Lol they are also notoriously messy drinkers and get water everywhere. They have their flaws for sure. But they are very smart, eager to please you. Not hard to train, and they are very loving sweet, cuddly lap dogs.
Great videos. Keep up the good work. My grandfather used to work security, Rottweiler was his dog of choice for it. You should do a video about the best dogs for security guards/officers. Most would think it’d be the same selections as a police dog, but I disagree.
God bless those lady's !!! Is there a chance you can make Dorset bulldogges video ? I have seen a male from the breed, and i liked what i have seen, but overall the info about the breed is not that much ...
I live in BC, Canada, and just lost my baby Saint Bernard , It is a devastating experience to me as he was my baby and no breed that I love more, So let me know if there is a baby that I can take!!!!!....
This is not really about Saint bernards. Also, Saints don't need to eat raw. They can eat dry food as long as it's a good quality. Yes, they need good care. They do cost more etc.
st Bernards are much like me big, hard to read, and normally cant be bothered to give a shit but watch out when we do. i will always be a pittbull guy but i plan own a bernard probably be my next dog actually.
They make it sound like all older dogs are discarded on purpose. Saw a 15 yr old shih tzu, owners had no choices way too many health issues and they were financially incapable of proper care. Sadly dont know fate of dog but shelter was deciding if it was possible to care for. They make tough choice of two dog cost or one for exmple.
Good view...we do need reputable breeders but not backyard breeders. If we do not keep breeding like she said we won’t have working breeds etc. Do your research on the breed before and do the proper training. Don’t give a dog up when it’s not doing what you want bc you didn’t train them properly or they get old.
Gawd bless these straight up angels...and those wise enough to be like minded... ...I truly mean that, and this is coming from an atheist ffs...HaHa!!! xD
I dont agree with everything they say, specially them eating real meat. Plenty of saint bernards do fine on a good dog food. They do not have to eat pounds of raw food. They make it sound like its a dog most owners should not get. They are expensive, but you do not have to be rich to own one. Most middle class people will be fine paying to take care of a saint. They also do not need acreage or giant yards. Because most are bred for shows and not high energy dogs. They just need space to move and lay down. So any open floor apartment or house is fine for them. Also many now days, live longer than 8 to 10 years and have fewer health issues do to selective breeding, better science behind our dog foods.
This two women are literally a life saver. We need more people in this world just like them.. god bless you two …much Aloha’s too you both…🙏🏽

In india sainbearnard is 50000 rs,no shelter here to take like you,but what you said is correct, they were breed to work, not locked for a tree
I'm glad I've done alot of research first before watching this video, had I watched this first it would of put me off completely 😔
This is not really about Saint bernards. Also, Saints don't need to eat raw. They can eat dry food as long as it's a good quality. Yes, they need good care. They do cost more etc.
Samoyeds?
I thank G-d for You
The cat lokks suspicious get him camera man
st Bernards are much like me big, hard to read, and normally cant be bothered to give a shit but watch out when we do. i will always be a pittbull guy but i plan own a bernard probably be my next dog actually.
Beethovens😁😁😁😁😁
