I ran out of jazmine rice from my local store so ended up with short grain rice. So my question is will that work just fine with this recipe or should I shorten the liquid just a bit?.
Looks good. Black pepper also increases bioavailability of the curcumin in turmeric by 2000%. I always include oil and black pepper in anything with turmeric.
In the recipe she used both butter and olive oil, does the type of fat/oil influence how well the turmeric is absorbed? Is it beneficial to use butter or can one replace it with olive oil rapeseed oil for same effect of turmeric absorption?
Lego Head Well the woman in this video seemed to disagree with that as does the op of this thread as implied by the wording "also" when talking about black pepper helping with absorption.
Lego Head I have read several articles stating the same: the Curcuming is fat soluble, so consuming it with fats helps it getting absorbed into the bloodstream from the intestines rather than being prematurely absorbed through the stomach wall. I bet you know how to cook great food but your chef credentials frankly don't tell me anything about your credentials as a bio chemist or a medical doctor. If you have some links to some studies that have compared the absorption rates of Curcumin with and without fats, that would naturally be great and we would not need to rely on subjective opinions.
We Indians use turmeric in almost everything. It gives colour, a nice mild aroma and is good for digestion. A lot of people drink haldi-doodh or turmeric-milk before going to bed, it keeps your skin and stomach all happy. You can also apply turmeric on your face but it can stain your face so make sure you put milk with it. Brides in India apply a face pack of turmeric, milk, honey and chickpea flour to get the glowing bridal face. Try it once.
@@delgue3640 yeah, i use half cup of chickpea flour, 2 tsp honey, 1 tbsp of turmeric powder and mix it well, put milk according to your choice but make sure the face pack isn't very runny or thick, it should have a cake batter consistency for it to stick to your face. Let it dry for 15-20 mins and scrub it off, wash with water after that.
Notes for myself 4 cloves minced garlic finely minced shallot 1 cup jasmine rice 2 cups chicken broth 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp butter 1 tsp salt 1 tbsp evoo ---- 1. Heat up pan. 2. Add 1 tbsp evoo and 1 tbsp butter. 3. When oil/butter mixture bubbling, add garlic and shallot. Only mix for about a minute don't want to burn. 4. Add 2 cups low sodium chicken broth, salt, and turmeric. Wait for it to boil. 5. Add rice. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
I reccomend adding the dry rice and tumeric in with the garlic and shallots as they are sweating, that way the spice and the rice itself gets nice and toasted. Just and additional 45 seconds of stirring on heat.
Thank you for sharing this Middle Eastern Tumeric Rice Recipe. In Indonesia we add lemon grass, galangal, coconut milk, bay leaf , pan dan leaf and kaffir lime leaf. Some people add star anise , cardamon, cinnamon.
I never cooked rice outside of a boil in bag until I found this recipe while looking for a good yellow rice recipe from scratch - this is absolutely phenomenal and was a HUGE HIT in my home!! I know this comment is coming in YEARS later but this video is still helping folks all over - thank you so much for sharing!!

And side note you really need to have your own show on the food network!!! You could very easily be the next star on there with theses cuisines. I will try this rice next time I make it.

I keep coming back to this recipe in my family fell in love with it. I fell in love with it and over the last couple few years. I’ve been coming back over and over and over to this video. It is an amazing dish. I usually cook peas and then maybe out a few on top just that pop of the peas in my mouth with the race is really pretty good companion and yeah, it’s a great side for any dish in my opinion.
I absolutely loved your rice recipe. I started researching recipes that incorporate turmeric & pepper into my daily diet. I am trying to find delicious recipes mostly for my husband because he has a few health issues and your recipe is by far the best. I also made baked turmeric chicken. 2 thumbs up.
Tried this. Very garlicky using four large cloves of garlic. I used a no-salt broth a 1t salt as called for in the recipe. I would cut the salt in half and use 3 cloves of garlic instead of four.
I just found your channel and I love it so much! I'm vegan and middle eastern food, particularly lebanese, syrian, and iraqi cuisine is my favorite. Delicious !! This is my fav us Indians call it Khichri. I love turmeric rice, we have it with a veg dish containing spinach, potatoes, peas n tomatoes 👌
I like this recipe the best because it doesn't require as much ingredients. I also add cumin along with the tumeric for this style. Other videos I've seen by Indians they use a lot of other ingredients like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise, which is good too but I save more money with this version! lol.
I made it this weekend for a dinner party. IT WAS A HUGE HIT! Good baseline rice recipe. If desired, it's easy to add this or that for a personal spin on the flavor. It went perfect with the chicken I grilled. Thank you for sharing this simple recipe!
Lovely recipe! I also used some onion in this recipe, along with black pepper. to taste and boost the turmeric. We enjoyed this dish very much. Thank you for showing the secret to colorful rice.....the mystery is solved. God bless your family.
You are right turmeric is a organic healer for many sickness. I take turmeric with milk if I catch a cold or fever. Trust me I don’t need antibiotic. This works so good. A little slower but effective way.
Just a note of thanks. In Chicago we have a small, family owned chain (3 restaurants) called Pita Inn. Fantastic, authentic food in the Palestinian/Lebanese tradition. I've been trying to replicate their rice for years. With saffron, with various spices, with various levels of broth, water, etc. And your simple recipe has finally unlocked the secrets...and elevated it a notch. Thank you.
Found your recipe and channel last night while searching for “yellow rice”. We made your recipe to go along with some grilled chicken and vegetable kabobs. The rice was the hit of the meal! We both loved it. So easy to make! Thanks for sharing!!
I made this rice dish for my Christmas holidays and I cannot stop eating it. I am a dessert fiend but this is truly addictive. I will eat the rice from the pot. Then I will feel guilty and then put it away in the fridge and then take it out and keep eating. It is soooo tasty. Thank you for sharing this recipe and happy new year!
I make a similar dish. I just put 2 cups rice and 2 cups water into my rice steamer and add a teaspoon of turmeric. I call it Yerro rice. If its a special dish I use a whole container of saffron instead.
Oh yes! One of my favorite family recipes, simply called "chicken and rice". Just like this pretty much but with chicken, bone-in, of course! Lol. Brown chicken thighs in garlic and stick 'em in the roasting pan with dry white rice and consommé soup. Oh, so easy. I can always eat so much of it, too, it's just so perfectly simplistic; no fuss deliciousness! Thank you for sharing. Love, love, love. 🙏💕

I love how simple and straightforward this it, easy for a newbie at cooking like me! And based on the testimonials of a lot of the comments down here that it tasted amazing, I can't wait to try it!
Thanks for sharing 🥰
Clear and versatile wordings, Wonderful preparation. Good Luck.
Delicious !! This is my fav us Indians call it Khichri. I love turmeric rice, we have it with a veg dish containing spinach, potatoes, peas n tomatoes 👌
I LOVE Indian food, yes I have had that before and now I am hungry LOL
Why don't you come on over to Yorkshire, and i will make you some ; )
I wish! Thank you dear ;)
I like this recipe the best because it doesn't require as much ingredients. I also add cumin along with the tumeric for this style. Other videos I've seen by Indians they use a lot of other ingredients like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise, which is good too but I save more money with this version! lol.
Recipe please!
Blanche, you have a great sense of humor! I ate a simple rice dish that had three colors: white, yellow, and orange. Thank you in advance for help.
You are very welcome!
I made it this weekend for a dinner party. IT WAS A HUGE HIT! Good baseline rice recipe. If desired, it's easy to add this or that for a personal spin on the flavor. It went perfect with the chicken I grilled. Thank you for sharing this simple recipe!
So glad you liked it! Yes you said it perfectly, this is the base for which anything you like! Thanks for your feedback!
I’ve always had bad luck cooking rice on the stove but the 20 minutes simmer was perfect! It turned out perfect and was so good! Thanks, great recipe!
Glad you are now a pro at rice, hope you check out the other recipes on this channel!
I didnt have shallots handy so I used half of a small onion chopped fine. The rice came out fabulous. My family loved it! Thank you so much!
+Ithila Wonderful you are very welcome!
I just made this rice and it was delicious!! Thank you for the recipe. You are amazing!😊
Thank you! =)
Thank you.
Awesome great to hear that! 👍
Found your recipe and channel last night while searching for “yellow rice”. We made your recipe to go along with some grilled chicken and vegetable kabobs. The rice was the hit of the meal! We both loved it. So easy to make! Thanks for sharing!!
So happy to hear that! Welcome to the channel, a new recipe coming this week! =)
“ rice is very important. That’s why I only make it twice a month.” Hi I’m Chinese. Rice is very important. That’s why I make it every day.
I think she meant this particular rice recipe, not rice over all :3
I made this recipe last night and it was delicious!!!
Thank you!!!
Awesome! Glad you liked it, new recipes uploaded here all the time =)
This was so good and I followed the steps, but made the dish in a rice cooker.
I'm also adding ground black pepper. What an excellent, flavorful and healthy rice dish!
Simple and easy to cook! Thanks for the recipe ❤️❤️
I've made this 5 times during covid. It's so good. That yellow color is so vibrant!
Wow that is awesome, I am so glad you liked it!
Blanche thank you for this recipe. I use basmati with this recipe and it is amazing - goes well with shawarma and other dishes!
Yes perfect with shawarma thanks for your feedback! =)
I made this rice dish for my Christmas holidays and I cannot stop eating it. I am a dessert fiend but this is truly addictive. I will eat the rice from the pot. Then I will feel guilty and then put it away in the fridge and then take it out and keep eating. It is soooo tasty. Thank you for sharing this recipe and happy new year!
haha so glad you like it--yes it is quite addictive for rice lol!
We make rice with tumeric and rasins. Throw the rasins in when rice is half way cooked. 50 ml rasins per cup of rice and 1t tumeric.
i love raisins, i add it almost without an apparent reason to rice :D
I love vegetable biriyani with raisins and cashews.... so delicious.
Since it's summer, I will try this in a rice cooker, saute the garlic/shallot, and toss it in with the broth, rice, etc.. Thanks!
You're welcome! ;)
Thank you for pronouncing turmeric correctly❤️ Most so called cooking experts pronounce it as TUMERIC !
haha yes and it drives me crazy too!
Agreed!
I tried this at a Mediterranean restaurant and I had to learn how to cook it bc it tastes so good
This is Soo perfect! Making baked chicken and wanted to try a new side dish with it🥰
Great video and channel!! I’m gonna try this today! Thank you!!
I make a similar dish. I just put 2 cups rice and 2 cups water into my rice steamer and add a teaspoon of turmeric.
I call it Yerro rice. If its a special dish I use a whole container of saffron instead.
Trying it right now! It looks and smells sooo good i cant wait until it is done
I just made a fresh pot of rice using this delicious recipe :)
