    Boat mechanic here. These same toilets are used on most modern boat and use the same ball valve and seal. If your handy and feel confident you can get the repair kits at most any RV parts stores and they are relatively easy to install and just about every kit comes with detailed instruction with drawings and pictures. Usually takes about an hour to do it, maybe 2 if it's your first time.
    The reason I am posting this is because sometimes the seal gets so dry rotted when not in use or is regularly abused you can't fix it like this.
    Pro tip: Use this stuff when winterizing and storing your RV/camper to prevent the dry rot scenario. And also have a sign that says something to the effect that if it doesn't come out of you then it shouldn't go in the toilet. Very important because these toilets don't work like regular house toilets and some have chopping blades and diaphragms that make them operate.
    Also if your getting a smell from your holding tank then check to see if there is a charcoal filter on the tank vent and replace it. And if the smell is coming from the toilet you may have issue with the diaphragms and need to replace those. House toilets use the water in bowl to stop sewer gas from coming up, these toilets don't have that type of trap.
    PRO TIP #2 Never poor any sort of house toilet products down the toilet like DrainO or anything like that, and never use bleach either. These chemicals are corrosive to the plastic plumbing in RVs, campers and boats and can start leaks. Bleach is a big no no because it reacts to solid waste and creates chlorine gas which can come up through the ball valve and fill the cabin. This can suffocate you and kill you. Always use the manufacturers recommended cleaning products.
    Thanks for reading this, stay safe and have fun.

      Yes… I salvaged a nice RV toilet with a porcelain bowl out of a 1960’s camper that had been sitting unused since the 1980’s at least… needs a bit more TLC than just grease!

    Thank you!!! We bought a used 2014 class C last year, and it was not holding water in the bowl. Sure enough, our first night was so stinky we were almost nauseous.
    This is a health and safety issue so I just replaced the entire toilet. Now that I know this, I will keep the rubber seal supple with this plumbers grease! Thank you!!!!

    We winter 4 to 5 months a year in Florida from Ohio. I do this exactly the same way about one to 2 times per month. If you keep the seal lubricated regularly, you'll find it keeps the seal conditioned longer. The seal kits for this model like I also have, are pretty cheap and worth an easy replacement every 2 or 3 years depending on amount of use.

    • @TraconWizard
      @TraconWizard 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This. Use some TP first to remove "debris" then drop in tank. That way, you're coating rubber w grease, not smearing "debris" around.

    that’s a temporary solution if the gasket isn’t sealing the gasket is bad putting a bunch of lube and grease on it does not help it seal you just created a temporary barrier I regularly change o rings and gaskets yes lube helps but it doesn’t fix anything using chemicals on the gasket is probably why it’s broken and cracked in the first place don’t use chemicals on a rubber gasket and you’d still have a good one I didn’t research anything and I’m not a plumber just a pool service technician and I know o rings and rubber gaskets and I know water replace the gasket and don’t use chemicals where a gasket is present pour that chemical directly into your system or dilute it heavily so it doesn’t destroy your seal every time…. I hope my 8 years of replacing o rings and gaskets take this information to heart hope you all got some useful information out me

    I had an o ring on the top of a pool pump leaking real bad sucking in air and not being able to run I’d loaded it with magic lube aka gasket grease it worked but only for a week it needs a new o ring not a bunch of lube
