Back in Zidane’s time defending means getting physical and that is why players then often try to shoot instinctively as they have no time to tee up a shot. These days players take way too many touches and even have time to posture themselves for a shot on goal. There’s a big difference in quality now and then as defenders really have their hands tied in todays game
