I’ve had the Haakaa since my first child. I’m now on my third and you taught me how to FINALLY use this properly! I was catching drops before. I just got an ounce. Can’t believe how much I missed 😅
Super helpful!!! Thank you!! This is my 4th child, but my first time going to be using a Haakaa. I had two purchased for me, and I think might go ahead and purchase two more myself haha Thanks again for these helpful tips
Congratulations 🥳. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a kind comment. It’s really made my day. I loved using my Haakaa pumps and they were all I used for my second to build a small stash. Thanks again and stay safe 😃
Same! It was only on my second baby that I ‘optimised’ my technique, since this was pretty much the only pump I used. Congratulations on your new baby. Enjoy the snuggles 🥰
Hello, my baby is due to be born in July and I want to breastfeed which I didn't get to do with my first child as I didn't know much. I just wanted to use the Hakaa breast pump who h I have already purchased and didnt want to buy an electric as they are very pricey. I wanted to ask, will just using a Hakaa help build my supply and help me make more milk? And how often should I use to Hakaa to get more milk?
Hi Ash, supply is usually down to demand. So the more frequently you empty your breasts of milk either by baby &/or pump, the more you will produce. The best way to increase supply is to feed on demand (if you have a sleepy & low weight baby then baby will also need to be woken for feeds). First while maybe just concentrate on trying to feed your soon to be newborn. Then when you’re both comfortable, absolutely use the Haakaa pump to build a little stash. They say that it only collects the ‘letdown’, milk that would have leaked while feeding anyway. But due to the suction, I believe it is collecting more than that. If you really do want to increase supply, then for the first while I would make sure to feed EVERY 3 hours, that’s 8 feeds a day. That will send a signal to your body to produce as much as it can. I wish you all the best. I have a video here on how to increase supply, I had low supply myself & have managed to feed both my girls. Also, please remember that a baby feeding directly from the breast is far more efficient that any electric pump so don’t worry about equipment 🤗 th-cam.com/video/U7VK6eE9UDk/w-d-xo.html
Do you out the milk in the fridge as soon as it's collected or do you keep collecting overnight and then put in fridge in the morning? How many hours can I keep it in room temperature before storing in fridge / freezer?
Hi Fresh, Thanks for asking. It’s advised that collected breast milk can be sitting out for 4 hours before going in the fridge. But I would put it in the fridge after each collection, before I go back to sleep, since it’s usually only a small amount that I collect & the house is warm, I’d be paranoid about it going bad before I wake. I hope that helps. Congratulations on your new bub. How old is baby?
Lol this is exactly what my husband did. He took the opportunity to ‘sell’ me the idea of an upstairs fridge. Needless to say it did not take long to convince me 😂
Hi Leinah, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. The lid came with an Advent manual pump. The manual pump did not really work for me, but it has great reviews & frequently recommend on breastfeeding chat groups. Here is a product link. If you have any breastfeeding questions, please do feel free to ask. amzn.to/2UYqO6v
It creates a light suction that it can be used pump for relief, but I don’t think that you can empty the breast with it & it will be a lot of work to keep squeezing out the air to keep the suction going. It is used mainly for catching let down milk as you are feeding. Hope this helps ☺️
Can I use hakaa even if my baby is now 8 months old? My letdown is getting seldom these days. Where i always drink malunggay tea to increase it. Will hakaa help my milk to increase?
Hi, you can still use the Haakaa pump. The more milk you drain from your body, the more it will produce. So use of the Haakaa can probably help a little. But baby feeding directly & more frequently is the most effective way to increase milk supply. Also just drinking plenty of water in general. I hope that helps.
Also apologies for the delay in replying. I always try to respond quickly to breastfeeding related queries. My comments section from a number of videos got spammed yesterday so this got missed. If there’s anything else at all please ask 😊
Hello mama! May i know How do you store the pump in between the feedings/ sleeps...cause i'm thinking of storing the pumps inside a cooler bag filled with ice packs so that i dont need to get up to go to the fridge in the middle of the night 😄 Thanks!
I think that’s a great tip you just shared there! I have a fridge upstairs so I just popped my equipment in a bag in there between uses. But a cooler bag filled with ice packs beside bed is genius! I will do that myself if I have another baby. BTW congratulations on your little one. How old is your baby?
@@MamaBanana omg i just thought of that since i can barely wake up and walk in the middle of the nights. Thank you! She's 12days old btw! 😉 And still trying to figure out what's work for us at the moment 😊
Oh wow. I never even thought that breast size makes a difference, but clearly it does. That’s very interesting to know. Thanks for sharing & so sorry it caused you pain. Congratulations on your new baby btw ☺️
I'm having the same issue but I have small breasts. I feel like it cuts the blood flow to my breast because it makes it red. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm desperate.
Yes I do. And I don't see anyone talking about that or tips. It's hurt my areola and caused some trauma to the skin. And my nipple has become larger... I think its swollen... maybe I overused it within 24 hours?? I dunno but I'm frustrated cuz now I can't bare the pain of breast feeding.. 😕 😫 I'm trying to get back to it though.. so much pain..
@@abbiesianlouise I watched another TH-cam video after it, and she said it should never hurt. Try not to squeeze too much (less suction). But I don’t know if Haakaa can stay well with less suction (ie being kicked by the baby....). My baby is not born yet so I don’t know the real experience. I have only tried it for a few minutes. Let me know if you tried it.😃
Hi Abigail, I’m so sorry to hear this & apologies for the delay in responding. I can’t be sure what the issue is here, but I know when I changed flanges with my pump, it helped a lot with discomfort. It may be that the size of the silicone flanges just aren’t a good fit for you. In this case I would discontinue using them. I could be wrong, very hard to assess the issue without seeing in real life. I really hope you got sorted ❤️🩹
I wouldn’t advise that. As there is a suction all around the nipple, I would be wary of discomfort & short term potential damage to the skin. For low milk supply, drinking plenty of water & frequent feeds/pumping (manual or electric, the Haakaa won’t be as effective) is the best advice I can give. If that does not help after a couple of days, maybe meet with a lactation consultant. I hope it all goes well for you ❤️
I used a bottle brush to clean it. Then I used a microwave steriliser. I think I actually had the Avent one. Thanks for watching & I hope this answered your question. Please do comment again if you’ve any other questions about the Haakaa pump 😊
I think the Hakka is great for building a nice easy stash. Getting an electric pump or not would really depend on how often you intend on giving your baby pumped milk. For me, the Hakka would not have been enough with my first since she took a bottle a day. But for my second I didn’t need to use the electric pump since she rarely had a bottle. I actually usually just gave the Haakaa milk to my first born toddler. Sorry I don’t have a clear answer, but I hope it helps.
Hi, I wouldn’t sleep with these on, they lose suction as they fill up. The few times I used them side feeding, I fell asleep & woke up to a wet mattress 🤦♀️. I did mean while feeding awake at night, sorry I wasn’t clear. Have you you checked out my video on how to breastfeed lying down? I have lots of tips there 🤗
Should it feel like it's squeezing the life out of your breast and nipple? Everytime I use it, it hurts so much to the point I think I'm doing it wrong 😅
Oh, I don’t think it should feel like that. Maybe try warming up the breast & the mouth of the Haakaa with your hands. Are you collecting anything with it?
Thank you so much for watching. I know that the Haakaa pump does not work for all mamas. Do let me know what you think of the Haakaa pump in this comments section.
Hi! Question: if you use this while baby feeds on the other breast, does that mean that your baby usually gets full drinking just from one breast? I think I may have a low supply, so I don’t know how to start building a stash. Thank you for your tips!
Hi, this is an excellent question that i wish I thought to answer in the video. I would still feed baby on the Haakaa pumped breast after feeding from the first breast (some babies only need a feed from one boob at a time), I also had low supply issues. The Haakaa won’t empty the breast, the suction is so gentle compared to an actual pump, that it really just collects the ‘let down’, thats is the milk that most women leak while feeding. Putting baby to the Haakaa pumped breast will help empty it, the more frequently you empty your breasts, the more milk your body should produce. I have a video on how to increase milk supply that might help. If you have any other bf questions at all, absolutely feel free to ask. I had so many issues with my first that i did alot of research so might be able to help. Enjoy your breastfeeding journey mama🤱 & take care of yourself 😊

Helpful, thank you. Do you use the ladybug? I’m having trouble getting that to suction on.
Hi Petra,
I’ve not heard of the ladybug. The Haakaa is the only suction on that I’ve tried. Sorry for the late response.
Do you know why the milk has to be the same temperature when storing? Also can I collect over 2-3 days and combined in the freezer?
Heard from another video it is due to bacteria
Doesn't it hurt ? My nipples turn purple because there is too much vacuum if I squeeze is just a little.
Do you use the Haakaa when it’s squeezed on your breast or should it look like it’s normal shape on the breast? I just don’t get it.
I’m so sorry that I missed your comment. It should look like it’s squeezed. I hope it’s working out for you & congratulations on your new baba ☺️
