    I agree breast pumping is for working moms. It's for mom's who know they will be returning to work and may have a hard time to pump while at work.

    Gives me anxiety just thinking about how wild it is pumping and BF’ing trying to create a ‘stash’ I’m so proud you are going strong it broke me down and I quit at 4 months because I felt like I was neglecting the 3 other members of my family. ❤️

    I loved this video! Thanks so much for sharing your perspective. I was like you, building a stash because “it’s what your supposed to do” even though my daughter refuses to take the bottle and I also planned to stay at home permanently after giving birth. I bought a second freezer to store my milk and my husband accidentally unplugged it one day and I lost all of it. Then I had to work on building up the stash again. Total waste of time. Also I’ve never heard anyone talk about the change in smell and taste after freezing but I noticed that was the case the one day I tried to thaw some. So I’m glad to know it wasn’t just my milk. Lol.

    I'm so happy I watched this. I just realised I spent $400 on electric pumps $45 on manual pumps, a haaka and then replacing an evenflo pump that broke and accessories and im 27 days post partum. I don't spend much time physically breast feeding because I'm pumping for my Freezer stash. I have 20 bags of 60-130 MLS each bag. And now I'm realizing that I don't need a stash. I need maybe 20 bags if I decide to leave the house and have a babysitter but I won't. I am off work for a FULL YEAR. Why am I trying to create such a big stash? I have no where to go my milk supply Is already low. I spend more hours pumping then I do sleeping when I could just be breast feeding her. I seen videos of people saying 8 pumps a day every 2-3 hours so I would be pumping at 3am and 5 am and not sleeping. I feel really stupid now 😔😓. Thanks for making this video. ❤ I'm almost in tears thinking about how I'm wasting time pumping for 0 reason. Why do I have 4 Pumps 😩😩😩

    Thanks for this! I’ve realized while watching that part of the reason breastfeeding is going well for us is because I don’t put any pressure on it... I am just following my baby’s lead!

    I appreciate hearing your perspective! My baby (4 months old) has hungrier days and less hungry days, so I’m always thankful I have some extra frozen milk for when she’s hungrier and I didn’t pump enough for her that day. She breastfeeds and takes a couple bottles of breast milk each day and usually we’re within an ounce of one another, but some days I stash away a few ounces and other days she eats like 4 more ounces than I pumped that day 🤷🏻‍♀️ she’s a big baby and has always been a slow/sleepy eater, too, so I’m not sure if those factors contribute. When you said, “It’s not even a lot of milk!” I was like - yes it is! I’m proud of my like 80 oz stash, haha. You seem like you’re doing great. So nice of you to donate your milk to a mama in need. Just wanted to throw in my two cents for new moms wondering if they should have a stash or not!

    THANK YOU for being so real. I bought a deep freezer prior to giving birth bc I needed a place to put my supply! Turned out our breastfeeding journey did not go according to plan and I have very low supply. I ended up pumping for 6 months but never had enough to ever freeze.. all of my breast milk bags are sitting unused and our deep freezer is holding some frozen pizza now 😂

    I have a 2 month old and everyone keeps telling me to start storing milk but I feel that my body will produce what he needs when he needs it. I was really starting to stress over not having pumped since he was born and now this video puts me at ease! I really don’t have to store anything or not pump consistently. Thank you for this video ❣️

    I hope you read this comment bc i wanna say thank you i think you saved me. Saved me time and stress and added joy back. Ive been asking myself for a couple weeks what i am going to do with all this milk. I have somewhere around 250 oz in the freezer and i havent used 1 bag yet. Im only 5 weeks in and i might get to nap, shower, be with my baby now. And i can back off with the pumping now which means soon my nipples might not be on fire if i havent nursed or pumped for 2 hours.

    THANK YOU! I am a FTM to an 8 week old and I will be returning to work in 2 more months. I was feeling so much pressure to build a stash, but we struggled with tongue tie early on and my supply got off to a slow start. The first weeks involved a ton of triple feeding and supplementing to make sure babe was getting enough to eat--I had barely enough to just feed him. I also started to resent the constraints of pumping time in the chair and like you, all the time spent pumping when I could have been doing other things, like snuggling with my baby after a feed instead of trying to occupy him so I could pump. After working with an IBCLC who was so wonderful, she assured me not to feel pressure to build a big stash and reminded me that every time I used milk that was previously stored, I'd need to pump to replace it or my supply would drop. I 100% agree with all your thoughtful points and am so glad you offering another perspective to moms who are feeling the pressure to build a stash when they don't really need it. More power to mamas that choose to build a stash and to those that truly have a need to do so. I just feel releived to hear another voice affirming that not all moms needn't compare, compete or feel pressure when it comes to feeding their babies.

    As a stay-at-home mom I realized the same thing! I don’t need the stash since my baby is with me all the time.
    At least you learned from it and in the end you have an experience to pass on!
    Also you might want to consider allowing him to sleep longer for his naps but reducing a nap or two for the day?

      I just started watching not even 5 min yet so idk what she talks about yet. but I'm trying to build a stash bc I lost my supply by like 12ish? weeks with my first.. I had to go back to work at 8 weeks and between not being able to pump enough at work and choosing sleep at night d/t exhaustion instead of pumping every 2hrs I couldnt make it past 3 months 🥺 so now im 6 weeks postpartum and again have to return to work at 8 weeks I want a stash just incase I lose supply I still have some on hand to mix with formula at least for a few days/weeks while she gets use to the transition over . but hoping I can make it 6 months since this is our last baby. 😥

    Good reasons to have a stash: if you get in a medical emergency and are unavailable for several days/weeks. If you have to be on antibiotics, if you get stressed and have low supply...also for skin complaints. But definitely don't stress about it or try to have a giant store of it.

    I was an exclusive pumper! It 100% ran my life. I couldn't go anywhere for more than 2 or 3 hours. I had to pack my pump up a d take it everywhere with me. And I made exactly enough. So whatever I pumped my son ate right after. It was a stressful endless cycle...
    I didn't have a choice - I had to exclusively pump. So I'm grateful for it and I'm so happy I was able to give my sweet boy breast milk.

    I love these chats about your experiences as a Mom. I remember you mentioned in a previous vlog about seeing other mamas on TH-cam or insta looking like they’re doing so well after just having a baby and wondering how they seemed to have it together. I think the freezer stash thing goes along with that. I remember seeing other moms posting about their freezer stashes and not understanding why it was so hard for me. I also wish I could go back and tell myself that it wasn’t a big deal! I think I could still currently use that advice haha

    I’m building a stash as a first time mom and I stay home as well. This put me in a good perspective to not stress about one so much. But at the same time I don’t exclusively breastfeed though. So I do understand the stress about needing to get home or somewhere to pump (every 2-3 hours) during the day. So I can keep up with my milk supply. And it feeling like that’s all I do is pump too.😅

    Same here . I have a stash and I always thought that I would of had more time to sleep, eat , hold and play my baby a lot more . To enjoy him being little but I know I couldn’t stop pumping because I told myself that the milk could be used for a lot of things . also I didn’t wanna have really hard painful breasts . Super uncomfortable and still not being able to hold my baby 😔. I’ve cried every now and then Because he would -still had to wait for me til I was done pumping .. I can’t go on walks , jogs, or be at the store for more than 2 hours. By the time I left it would be and hr or less due to the fact that I would be doing other stuff around the house. I think I made so much because my baby was in the nicu and the nurses kept telling me to pump so much for him. I didn’t regret it but I wish I could have fed him the
    Moment I got him. I think that you make what your baby only needs... I’ve slowly stopped to pump maybe twice a day and it’s about to be 4 months. I’m just saying it’s super time consuming and exhausting! your baby is so adorable btw!!💗

    Did you consider scalding your milk before freezing it to prevent the change of flavor due to high lipase levels? I had to do that for my stash, I discovered it a bit late but was I able to rescue/use the bad tasting bags by feeding them to my baby first thing in the morning when he was the hungriest and didn't care. Otherwise he would reject the bad tasting milk. Once I started scalding the milk it was a life saver and I was able to use all my milk stash. Scalding was quite an extra step when pumping at work, but worth it because the milk kept so well and sweet!

    Even if your milk ends up being thrown away - you still kept your supply up, and burned calories. It’s never ever a waste.
    Your milk tasted and smelled different due to high lipase.
    Agree on low pressure and just do your best. The more pressure you have, the more supply is affected. Also girl - pumping is the time to scroll Instagram! Lol.

    You are an incredible woman and mother. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I am 31 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby and desperately want to breastfeed for alot longer than the few months I was able to with my other children (I had severe complications with breastfeeding unfortunately and it broke my heart) and I have never felt more pressure and stress when it comes to worrying about breastfeeding than I do right now. I felt like I let my children down, my husband down and myself down when I could not breastfeed or even pump for longer than 8 to 12 weeks with my other babies so I then, each time, felt an even bigger pressure to make enough milk for them for when I inevitability had to stop breastfeeding them so early and I have put so much pressure on myself this time I honestly think it is making me worry and stress even more. This video really helped me just now work through those feelings and that pressure a bit. That is why I said you are incredible. Thank you so much for the help you just gave me. I'm sure you'll never know how invaluable this video was for people like me but it really truly was. Thank you for being so open, honest and sharing. Keep being a wonderful, strong and brave mama...🥰.

    I think it's wonderful you were able to donate to someone in need. I have pumped for the purpose of donating because I know breastmilk is so much healthier than formula! That being said, I completely understand regretting putting stress and pressure on yourself unnecessarily. My supply for extra milk went down, but my baby is still well fed, so I am having to work through not getting upset about it!

    Honestly I would feel the same way about creating a stash if it wasn’t for my supply dropping. The first 4.5 months I was pumping so much, 15-22 oz each pump session. I actually filled my moms, my sister, and my deep freezer up with breast milk. Then when my son turned 5 months I barely get 2 oz each pump sometimes nothing at all. So my stash came in handy because he can still get breastmilk. I have tried EVERYTHING to get my supply back but nothing works. We have already went through half my stash. I’m having such mom guilt about it too because I know I won’t be able to make it to a year! We will probably make it to nine months but I’ll have to supplement after that. 😭

    I just had my 5th baby and have been thinking about finally creating a stash, but everything you listed is the reason i havent ever done it. We even have a freezer dryer and i just still dont really want the stress. Plus my milk changes taste too! Idk if its like that for every baby, but this time ive been leaning more towards whatever i can get from the haakaa and saving that vs the stress of pumping.....the main reason i wanted a backup was if i need to go somewhere my husband can still feed the baby. But even thats rare......

    Different Perspective:
    My son is currently two months old, and I've been building a stash because I have an oversupply. So I'll feed him from one breast and pump the other breast simultaneously. The women in my family haven't had any luck when it comes to breastfeeding, so having all this pumped milk has been a blessing more than a burden, from my perspective.
    Yes, it's a lot of work, and maybe it will all be for nothing and I'll have to give it away to a baby in need. But I still see it as worth it, for whomever uses it.
    Side note- my son is immunocompromised so he HAS to eat twice as much as an average infant and always will because of his health conditions. Even into adulthood.
    It puts my mind at ease to know that when my supply inevitably disappears, I will be able to tell myself I did my very best. Especially considering my breastmilk is the ONE thing I can control when it comes to his health and keeping his little body functioning the best I can.
    I did try exclusively breastfeeding, and my supply nearly disappeared on me. Which was absolutely terrifying, and I just don't feel comfortable risking it again when I've worked so hard to get it back and better than ever. ❤️

      When I leave for work, I nurse and when I get back, after work and over the weekends, she breastfeed from mama. It's even easier these days since she has started with solid food. She just turned 7 months. So I really don't need that much milk during the day which is just 7 hours.

    Thank you for sharing this video and being very honest about stashing milk. We are actually looking into purchasing another freezer in the morning to stash my milk 😂
    For me, I tried to increase my milk
    production the first 4 weeks, my baby is now 10 weeks old, the reason why I pump (luckily 1-2x a day from 5-6x) is because she doesn’t always take both boob, and coz of that the other is full and very uncomfortable- I didn’t want to develop mastitis so I pump to get some relief and before you know it the freezer gets full and have built a stash 💕 😅

    In the first 3 months after baby’s born your supply is based on hormones. After the 3 months it becomes demand-based. If baby doesn’t demand on his own, and doesn’t empty your breast then you may wind up with a dip or an under-supply. When I am on my cycle my supply dips and it’s important to have the milk from my pump session. You mentioned you were triple feeding, so it’s obvious there that pumping was necessary. You can change your breastfeeding experience to fewer pumps.

    Creating a stash is definitely not what "you have to do". Women do it for different reasons. There is no point having a freezer stash if you are not using older milk and replenishing it with newer milk as it will just expire and you will have to give it away or throw it out. I started to create a freezer stash after a few "scares" which is too long to explain, but it is good to have if a woman wants (not has to) do it. My plan is to have a stash big enough is that when I am done BF I can still give my baby milk for a few more months. A good way to always keep a freezer stash fresh is using up 1 bag a day and replacing it with a new bag, this way you won't have to throw milk out.

  • @LeMary1208
    @LeMary1208 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for it! I always feel guilty for never have had the energy to build a freezer stash. For the few times I supplemented I just used formula e baby is still fine. I'm naturally under supplier but I can't stand the idea of waste all my time that I can be enjoying my baby or resting when I can perfectly supplement with formula. I felt like these breastfeeding groups are just like a cult and makes you believe you are horrible for not having a stash or breastfeeding baby as long as possible.

    I haven't pumped in these 20 days of postpartum I just collect the milk that leaks. And I have lost so much at nights. I now have a stash of 89 oz just by collecting ( holding a bottle on the other breast) I also used a hakka for 1 week but it would pump as it has suction. I understand what you are saying and I totally feel it. I am running out of space in my freezer and that is worrying me. I am not pumping:(

    If by chance my ability to breastfeed is better with baby #2 I’ll take your advice about thinking about the goal and not storing too much. 25-50oz sounds soooo much more manageable:) thank you!

    As an RN/ lactation counselor, I 100% understand the idea behind sharing breast milk. But what I always tell people is that it’s best when shared between closer friends or family if you can’t get it from a milk bank which I know can be a hassle. The biggest concerns with getting milk from a stranger online is that you don’t really know what’s in that milk, if it’s real breast milk, how good that person was at being cleanly while pumping/packaging and also that persons health history regarding HIV. It can just be really sketchy and these things need to be considered for the safety of your baby

    So strange that pumping is such a norm in America. Here in Sweden it's so uncommon. Don't know anyone with a freezer stash 😲 Your milk also changes with your babies age, it gets fatter to accommodate your growing chulds need. So milk from when your baby is 3 months old won't give your 8 month old baby (for instance) what it needs in nutrients 🤔

    • @AlliyScott
      @AlliyScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly! The more I think about it the more it just doesn't make sense.

    • @LisbethLouw
      @LisbethLouw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlliyScott right? I mean, I understand if you have to go back to work, but even then it feels unnecessary to build up a stash, better pump at work and then let baby have that the next day and so on 🤔 Only time I'd really understand pumping is the first few weeks if you want to donate the milk, because the milk you have when your baby is newborn is very nutritional and hospitals/birth wards highly appreciate it because they can give it to babies who are born too early ❤️
