Nice Video. Making gated kicks is really fun in my opinion. I also get way more consistent results with gated kicks then with distorted kicks. With distorted kicks i sometimes get out of this world kicks and sometimes the biggest trash.

Helpful and straight to the point. What I see often with other channels is the vid 1-2-3-4-5 etc,. Gives me the opportunity to go for whatever I need at that moment instead of watching 2 hours! well, back in the days they used triggered gates on the reverb to create that sound. With all the possibilities we got nowadays it's much easier to do it in a different way and still get the same kind of sound. Basically what I've done with cutting the reverb is kind of what I would've done with a gate. This way I got much more control over the sound. It's like sidechain compression. Most producers use volumeshapers and lfo tools instead of real sidechain compression, but yet they still call it sidechain compression because of the similar result in sound. Hope that explanation clears it up.
Hello, I know it's an old video, but I've got a quesiton about this tutorial. How wide should the sound of the reverb be? I tried using amabience vst for this and it has a "width" knob which of course regulates how mono or stereo this sound is. to my ears, wider sounds nice, but wouldn't that in theory take away the power of this kick? I heard that's it's best to always keep sub frequencies in mono.
there is no rule on how it has to be. I also advice to have the subs 100% in mono. Out of my own experience, I feel it's better not to overdo the stereo on kicks. A little bit is fine, but if you doubt make it less ;)
There could be many reasons for that. Either you use something weird for the pitching or a wrong pitch algorithm or you have some problems with your listening environment. Or do you have the full chain on and pitching the source? This can also lead to bad results. Usually, if you got a solid one shot pitching it a couple of semitones without any timestretching should still sound more than fine.
