As soon as I started watching my first thought was “it looks like it has good bones” my imagination just ran wild for a few seconds thinking of the things you can do to that home. Congratulations!!!!! Very exciting.

Congratulations! Top tip: get an architect. The cost of an architect can seem a lot, when so many builders claim not to need them. But a good architect will see so much potential that an ordinary contractor will not. They can also help you save money by advising you on the right way to reconfigure the house.
just make sure the original floors are reused/refurbished w OSMO, etc. Fab.

'... get an architect.' A GOOD builder is just as valuable. Architects tend to impose their own vision on a client who might not necessarily have the confidence to disagree. Their solutions can also be expensive.
@@eattherich9215 if you aren't open with your architect obviously they will make assumptions/choose solutions which they think are best - communication is essential and you can't blame the architect for a client who doesn't know what they want. & there is a reason architects go to school for 5+ years, builders are extremely valuable but there are things they haven't learnt (and vice versa!)
@@eattherich9215 If you pick the architect which portfolio of work you like and do a good brief of your needs putting them down as must have and good to have-you'd have a very good chance of having a good collaboration with the architect.
Congratulations Rachel! I was a single mom trying to make a home for myself and my son. I bought an old rundown house with good bones, but in terrible shape in a wonderful neighborhood. My friends thought I was crazy. It was frustrating, stressful and costly, but it turned out to be the best decision I could have made for my family. Looking back now that my son is grown, I know it was all worth it. We laugh and tell stories about our house and our friends in our neighborhood. Someday the house will be his to do with as he wishes, but for now it is the place we called home. I wish you the same grounding and love, laughter and connectedness.

I just purchased in USA and I'm excited and overwhelmed at the same time. I too agree that mortgages and the process is a scam. But if you do not have all cash we must pour out our savings into a mortgage. Congratulations on your purchase and the renovations to come.

First. Congratulations! Second, don’t get rid of the fireplace. The amount of space you are going to gain in relation to the coziness of a warm fire on a cold winter day, the sound of the cracking fire, the scent of wood burning is magical. It keeps you company and instantly elevates a place. I personally think you are going to regret it, but that is coming from a real fire lover.

My dad's advice was 'buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood you can afford, you can change the house but you can't change the neighbourhood'. Such good advice and it's what I did, took a lot of work but I love my home now, I'm sure you'll feel the same way when yours is done. x

LADIES it’s never to late I am purchasing one with my son he is 18 when he gets married he will have the house I will moved to the finished glammed out basement and or a Jack an Jill house if we can find one because I will be traveling a majority of the time I will leave him the house when I meet my maker 🙏🏽

Congratulations, this sounds amazing and like a wild ride. I'm in for all it will bring. So good to see you back. Your cookbook is giving here in my kitchen. Love how easy it is, how tweakable (taking care of my menopausal midsection) and what I like most is that it does not generate food for weeks on end but just enough to have a few das covered and then I can cook again. For me, who loves cooking and sees it as therapeutic and is sometimes pinched on time or motivation (yes, all those can exist peacefully next to each other) it fits wonderfully in my life. 💖

Very well done. Location and light are the most important features when choosing a place to live that you can make your own. I hear humidity crawling up from the ground is a very big concern in the UK. I have seen people treat it with special sticks in the lower part of the wall, maybe something to consider while you have the original walls exposed. Lots of luck with the works, keep talking with everyone on site, you will learn lots!
