RU New Brunswick; Livingston Campus; Quad 1
(Please note that this is a corner room. This means that my room is a bit larger in size than most dorms in the quads).
Tips mentioned in video in order:
Tip #1: Bag hooks are really helpful & keep you organized.
Tip #2: TV is nice to have, but not a necessity. Your choice if you want to bring one!
Tip #3: Bring an obnoxious amount of socks and underwear!
Tip #4: Drying racks are your best friend for laundry. Save time & money.
Tip #5: Under-the-bed storage boxes will change your life.
Tip #6: Full body-length mirrors are a MUST!
Tip #7: Bring girly greeting cards! Be ready for friends'/family bdays.
Tip #8: Fill cute containers with your favorite goodies. Perfect for display and for when you have company!
Tip #9: Bring any medication or prescription you might use at home. Better to be prepared.
Tip #10: Bring batteries for back-up.
Tip #11: Fans are great for the first 3 weeks and the last week of school.
Tip #12: If you feel uncomfortable walking around in a towel in your residence hall, robes are definitely for you.
Tip #13: Shoe racks allow you to organize and maximize your closet space.
Tip #14: Laundry basket with wheels! Yup.
Tip #15: Brooms are recommended! Stay clean and your roommate will love you forever.
Tip #16: Keep healthy snacks and juice in your fridge.
Tip #17: Overall, I recommend Home Goods & Ikea.
Lived in Quad 2 my freshman year and quad 3 my sophomore year. I'm not going to lie - I miss it so much! (mainly the social aspect). I got lucky and got a corner room in my freshman year as well and I loved it. I highly recommend the quads to any incoming freshmen.

Thanks for this video! It helps a bit. Transferring in and will be my first time away at school. I'll be in the Livingston Apartments though. You reminded me of a few things I never thought about needing.

aww I'm glad - you won't regret it! I wish I could go back, it was the fastest 4 years of my life. Things would be so much different if I didn't go to Rutgers and live on campus. The friends you meet in college are the ones who stick around forever.

@BriannaMcKenith nope, you get your own closet space! & I don't think it's that hard, it just takes a little time to adjust. Try to see where your classes are gonna be beforehand so you don't get lost on your first day! (and even if you do, it's really not a big deal lol). Don't forget you could always ask your RA for that kind of stuff. They're always willing to help.

unfortunately, all the quad dorms cost the same but are assigned randomly (at least when I was a freshman in 2013). So if you know you're assigned to the quads, you'll just have to cross your fingers and hope to get a corner room!

@Rachael, Rutgers provides trash and recycling bins, so you don't need to bring your own.
How did you hang the lights without damaging the walls?
Hi there! I used 3M Command hooks. They're easy to remove and don't damage the mounting surface!

Does the New Brunswick campus provide single dorms, for one person?
Yes! Singles are available, but they are usually only offered to transfer students or upperclassmen. Try calling RU Info to find out the deets lol
Hey! I'm going to be transferring to Rutgers in the fall. I'm a little confused by their bed size description. What sheets and other bedding should I buy for an "extra long bed"? Is it like a longer twin bed or a full? Thanks for your help!
+Bobbie Foster that's awesome you're gonna love it here! and if you're living on campus you should buy sheets that specifically say "X-Long" twin size bed sheets. The only difference is that it is longer than a regular twin bed.
Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking but during your freshman year was your roommate a friend of yours before you started Rutgers or was it someone Rutgers matched you up with? Could you tell me how the process works of picking a roommate for you? I love your video!
Hey Katie! So sorry I'm late but I figured I'd answer for any one else who is now viewing this video and finds this info helpful. I was fortunate enough that my randomly assigned roommate was pleasant and that we got along! I was a student at Rutgers from 2013-2017, so this recommendation might be a little outdated, but most people used Facebook groups to find roommates. That approach was successful for a lot of people I personally know. When I elected to have a random roommate, I remember completing a mini questionnaire from Rutgers to help match you with another student based on your personality and behavior. It was about 3-5 basic questions (are you messy or tidy, early riser or night owl, quiet or noisy, etc.) Hopefully they're still using that questionnaire!

Did you find it was comfortable living there? Or given the choice would have lived on a different campus? I'm going to Rutgers as a freshman this year and I'm confused about where to dorm...
I must admit, the quads aren't the prettiest dorms at RU.. but I had such a positive experience living there during my freshman year that it didn't bother me that much. Given the opportunity, I would not choose to live on a different campus. It was so easy to make friends, but at the same time I was able to find my quiet space for studying (study lounges, library). If you are worried about feeling comfortable, one cool thing about the quads is that the floors are not co-ed, meaning there are either only guys or only girls on each floor. You may want to ask yourself a few questions: Do I prefer living in open/suburban or small/urban areas? Where will most of my classes be in regard to my major? Would I enjoy living in a residence hall with more or less people? It depends a lot on your personality and what you like :)

Is your bed in the video the highest you can loft it? I was planning to fit some drawers under my bed but guess not :/
I am not entirely sure, but you can def call Rutgers housing and ask! I used bed risers for mine. I've seen other residence halls have their beds lofted much higher.

nope, I didn't have to share! We each got our own closets which was awesome

They were already there! You can also adjust the position of the shelves if you would like to.
Awesome. I put college ave for number one and livi for number 2 but I'm assuming I'm gonna end up at livi.
***** You still have a chance to live on CA as a freshman! Livi is the best for first-years in my opinion, but you'll love both.

does the room come with a ceiling fan?
+liz delacruz thankfully all dorms in the Quads come with a ceiling fan. But other residence halls, such as the Livingston Towers and Tinsley Hall, don't have one for some reason lol

where do you take showers?
TheVideoGamePress in the quads, the floors are not co-ed, so there is one communal bathroom on each floor w/ 2 stalls & 2 showers. (other residence halls will have more stalls/showers depending on the number of dorms on each floor).

Yes, they provide a mattress and bed frame! I do recommend bringing a mattress pad to make your bed nice and comfy. Your bed will feel awful without one, trust me.

She moved out because she hated me. LOL nah my roommate and I are best friends & the semester was over! I had to work that weekend so I moved out a day later than her.
